S10.E13: Sea's Just Not That Into You

Shep reaches a heartbreaking conclusion about his relationship with Sienna; Venita reveals her true feelings about JT to Ryan and Salley; Craig and Austen have a heart-to-heart that changes everything.

I don't think I've ever heard an adult male talk about being "madly in love" like Shep does.  Sienna seems very shallow but then, so does Shep.  He speaks as if it was a huge love story - Sienna's side of things doesn't match that at all.  What a doofus he is.  I think what got his attention was that she wasn't terribly invested in him.

Hearing Craig praising Paige to Austen for helping him through his hard time with drinking made me cringe knowing what we know now.  Little did he know that his speech to Shep about Sienna not being into him would apply to his girlfriend as well. 

And again, Venita!!!  Staaaaaaawp!!!  You're setting yourself up for a disaster!  😣

Shep at the beach with Sienna looked old (in spite of the soft, sunset light), and she looked so young. I'm sorry, I had to say it.

He still tried to convince her on camera that they were in love. She still denied it ("but we were not in a relationship"). This is ridiculous. As much as his platitudes ("death by a thousand paper cuts").

"Sienna, I'm pretty sure you felt it". I'm embarrassed on his behalf.

Bravo when Sienna was walking down the beach: Sienna, Shep's girlfriend. Bravo when Sienna was telling Shep that she didn't know if they were in love: Sienna, Shep's ex-girlfriend.

Shep gives the same gifts to his girlfriends (or pretend girlfriends). A shark's tooth.

Craig realized he was an alcoholic/addict.

I loved the flamingos.

Sienna  was far too young for Shep. She looked  even younger tonight. 

I'm pleased Craig  and Austin  made up, or at least ,came to an understanding,  I can't help but like Craig,  warts and all.

The women all looked very pretty tonight, but they all wanted to get back home. The hotel and the beach was lovely  though,  and Craig deciding on the flamingos,  was a nice touch.

Next week, it looks like JT walks off. I didn't  miss him tonight,  I guess Venita  did though.

The only time we ever saw Sienna light up around Shep is when he told her he had something for her. A gift?!? I love gifts!!! She was crestfallen to find out it was a tooth and not diamonds. But then she clocked a decent amount of gold and put it on…and of course didn’t give it back when dumping him. Shep’s concept of fancy jewelry is the same as my son who at 13, had the perfect idea for his 5-year-old sister’s birthday gift—a shark tooth necklace, because girls like jewelry and he also had a shark tooth necklace at 5 or 6 that he thought was the coolest thing. I guess the girl before Taylor got like a tiger shark tooth or something. Taylor being his great love got a Great White tooth. But how can he top it for Sienna?? Megladon. But like the great Megladon, this relationship is extinct.

i admit to getting a little misty-eyed during Craig admitting he wasn’t acting like his old self because he’s trying to be someone different to break his addiction, with Austen also crying because he would’ve been supportive of Craig, had he known. But let’s just keep it between us…and the camera crew…and the viewers at home. I think it was interesting in parallel of how they were both treating Shep. Craig is very much a “tough love,” tell ‘em like it is friend. And Austen is much more empathetic, supporting his friend where he is emotionally in the moment, not trying to snap him out of it with the cold, hard truth. So, ironically, Craig was afraid to let his friends see what was really going on with him, but had he, it seems that Austen would’ve been there supporting him completely.

For somebody so heartbroken, he wasn't so morose. After he filmed the goodbye, say what he had to say for the purposes of the show, he was joking, even smiling some.

Because he really wasn't heartbroken.

Sienna barely said anything to him or the rest of the cast.  Seemed like she was captive and had to shoot those scenes.  What a setup, a bunch of strangers asking pointed questions about her supposed feelings in all this.  So fake, who in real life would put up with that, they'd simply walk away but she was obligated to film the scene.

In real life, people wouldn't confront someone about something which is clearly none of their damn business.

Yeah that's a showmance, for 2 shows.  That charade will soon be over.

And they're trying to set up Venita with JT.  What a joke.  What was it the previous season, Venita had a bf whom she barely saw and JT was suppose to be so into Taylor.

What a quick switch, pair off two other cast members.

Just maybe, people can find other people to date who aren't on the show?  But if they are going to stay on the show, they have to play out these fake connections with other cast members.

For instance, Molly first pursues Whitney this season and now she's waiting on Shep.  Come on, she can find other men who are not on the show, if she isn't seeing someone already.

I also teared up while watching Craig & Austin on the beach. I get why it's difficult admitting to yourself & then sharing with others that you're struggling with an addiction. 

I think the comment about keeping between them was so Craig could tell others himself rather than Austen sharing it broadly. He knows that it was filmed but he also knows that'll be months before it actually airs.

I read an article where Craig talked openly about his struggles & shared that his father was an alcoholic who quit drinking when he became a parent. That gave Craig the courage to confront it now.

Damn, Whitney is so freaking lecherous. He's like a leering old man ogling all the young girls. 

Only Shep would give nearly the exact same gift to a new girl right on front of his ex. So incredibly tacky.

I found this episode hilarious.  I laughed several times.  All the crazy comments at their meal.  Madison pointing out that Sienna's necklace was just like Taylor's.  Shep boring the waiters with his sob story about Sienna and the great love story of his life.  I even laughed during Shep and Sienna's convo where he was trying to convince her they had been in love.

I'm glad he admitted it, but it wasn't good that he was drinking while doing so. The last few episodes he's starting drinking again. If he wants to stay sober, he needs to distance himself from this group. I know that would probably end his run on the show though.

He has been so drunk and out of it this season I've had trouble following him. It's as if he's only half there.

Craig & Austen were both wasted during their talk. I thought before Craig had said he only quit drinking hard booze. An addict prob shouldn't be getting wasted around other ppl who I'm sure are still doing drugs.

Shep & Sienna were so embarassing to watch.

This season was filmed nearly a year ago. At that point, Craig recognized he had an issue with alcohol & cut back. That affected his friendship with Austen & Shep because he was no longer interested in going out to bars with them  

Later last year (after both Southern Charm & Summer House had finshed filming) he cut back even further. He's said he has a beer/glass of wine/champagne every few months or on special occasions.

He feared he was heading toward alcoholism & made lifestyle changes but he's never claimed to be sober.

Not everyone who experiences problem drinking is an alcoholic. Learning to self-regulate, recognize & change problematic behavior is so incredibly healthy & should be applauded IMHO.

Did he tell Austen or Shep any of this?  Did the show make this a storyline for US?  Those who are sick of Craig may have recovered.

Craig said he was drinking less at the time this filmed. It seems he gained weight again, so who knows. Shep said at a reunion he stopped drinking hard liquor.

To be fair, Venita has gone on the record saying that scenes were shown out of sequence.  She said the scene where JT came over to her house and he told her he was dating someone actually happened after the Bahamas (not before, as was shown).  So they had not had that conversation yet when she threw herself at him at the hotel.  She said she's not a homewrecker like it was portrayed.  Now whether or not any of this is true - who knows!!

In other words, production is doing it's best to create drama for this slowly dying show.  If you ask me they need to bring Kathryn back.  At least she kept the show lively.

I don't like it. Producers do this on reality shows (not only this one) with "creative" editing, and the viewers start disliking cast members.

Didn't Venita tell one of the other women in the Bahamas hotel room that JT texts her a lot, probably can't be giving his girlfriend as much attention?

This was supposedly after she visited him in his hotel room.

But Venita is saying that the filming of the convo they had in which JT tells her he has a gf occurred AFTER the Bahamas trip?

Something is not adding up.

JT's girlfriend claims that she was introduced to Venita as his girlfriend PRIOR to filming so I wouldn't assume Venita's being 100% honest. I get such a desperate "I need a storyline" vibe from her this season.
