I need to get eggs soon. I have four left, but they're a bit past the sell-by date. I had a couple the other day and tested them all in a bowl of water. Two of them floated but the rest didn't, so I ate two and drew an X on the floaters so I remember not to crack them open (will leave them in the fridge until I take the trash out...we'll see if I manage better than Carlton did). Last week I was at Wegmans and looked to see if they even had eggs (the week before they didn't have much stock) and they had plenty but I forgot to check the price.

Wow, that is a new look for Shantel. 

My goal is always 52 a year, a book a week. I write them all down so I can keep track. Last year was bad, between the bathroom renovation and all the drama with my mother I was so distracted I only read 42. Just finished Annie Proulx's Heart Songs. Next on deck is Ian Mortimer's A Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England.

I am a book sale addict, like you are an estate sale addict, Pepper. I have a pile of books, thick and thin, awaiting their turn. My friends say where are you going to find that many books and I laugh and laugh and laugh. I have a lot of unread books on my shelves, just waiting to be read. And of course, there's always the library!

Damn, and I just renewed the book I'm reading for the third time and I'm not even a quarter of the way through it. I'm reading Kindred : Neanderthal life, love, death and art by Rebecca Wragg Sykes.

I've read that (long time ago)! I also have How to behave badly in Elizabethan England : a guide for knaves, fools, harlots, cuckolds, drunkards, liars, thieves, and braggarts by Ruth Goodman checked out, but I wasn't really getting into it. I don't know if it's the book or just my scattered brain. If I manage to finish the Neanderthal book this week I might try it again; they're due back on March 4th and I can't renew again.

I have a Goodreads account, but rarely visit it. And I have at least half a dozen "to read" piles! All at least a foot tall. If someone recommends a book I run right out and buy it. Its a sickness. Now my brother is trying to offload my mother's books, she can't read any more. She has much more literary taste than I. I'm more of a non fiction girl, though I don't scorn a good novel.

I love book sales too! I'm an equal opportunity shopper. And in Salem, we have a wonderful thing, a community book swap, twice a year. You bring all the books you don't want to the senior center the day before, then on the day you waltz in, grab a bag, and fill it for FREE.

I read that too! Also Mortimer's Time Traveler's Guide to Medieval England, loved it. I've read most of Ruth Goodman's books, I like her a lot. Social history is right up my street.

I was recently a participant in a research project where you read a book (you get one via amazon), fill out a short survey after each chapter, and then a lengthy survey when you've finished the whole thing.  I got to keep the book, and a $15 amazon certificate after I did the final survey.

I was kind of excited, because they assigned a famous western to me. I've never read a western before (I was the girl who took Old English so she could read Beowulf in the original), but it was awful. The language was dated, I've seen so many westerns that the description in the book did nothing for me, and the author was anti-Mormon, which was a big part of the story line. I didn't want to read about the book or author before finishing, but I got so frustrated and angry while reading, I did do a little background. I know how to separate my feelings from the task at hand. I'm familiar with anti-Mormon sentiment, but boy, this was hard to get through.

But, I spent my amazon money on some Asian sauces, so that worked out. 😁

I have a hard time letting go of books, but I have been able to fill up those Little Free Libraries with my "lazy vacation reads" on occasion. I would go crazy at a swap like that. 

And I can't watch Lashonda, this baby-voiced woman. I need to eat some grapes!

I did have a hard time letting go of books for a very long time, though I did purge every so often. I had three HUGE bookcases in the living room, crammed full, and five others, also crammed. In the end I felt oppressed by these big looming cases stuffed with books that I would probably never read again, so purged mercilessly last summer, got smaller, neater cases, and it feels and looks great. I still have hundreds of books but only kept the really good ones. What a difference it makes! We have lots of little free libraries here and for weeks houseguest and I were making loops through town and dropping books off. Still had bags and bags to bring to the book swap too!

Next week (2/26) is Thederick and Lindsey of Eat death Lindsey fame.  

Then, the next week (3/5) is supposed to be the rerun of Holly and Lashanta.  However, my cable guide often gets wrong information this far ahead.
