Galileo908 December 10 Author Share December 10 (edited) Yes, it's awkward that Guillermo's only friends are also former co-workers and a monster that likes to pop heads like cherries. When Monster was allowed to have fun, he was charming. "TOILET NOW!" killed me. I was right when I said Colin built his first friend. "He's no Patrick Swa-zay, but he gets the job done." Why am I not surprised Nadja forgot why she even had that job? Of course she fell for a scam. As expected, Guillermo traded one master dangling a promotion in front of him for another in Jordan. And Gizmo finally realized it. And we now know what this whole documentary is for: busting Jordan for insider trading. COME ON AND KISS ALREADY, NANDERMO! They're already in a Batman and Robin relationship, it's probably gonna happen next week. Which I am NOT ready for. No, not Batman and Robin. It's a vampire and a vampire hunter. It's Buffy and Angel. Edited December 10 by Galileo908 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8529142
thuganomics85 December 10 Share December 10 Every time I think there is no way Matt Berry can surprise me with the way Laszlo mispronounces something, he goes and busts out a "Patrick Swa-zay" out of nowhere. The man really can make any word hilarious. Obviously knew that Guillermo's time at Cannon Capital was going to end at some point, but I thought it was surprisingly muted here. He did get some form of victory by the camera crew recording all of their illegal schemes this entire time, but I thought for sure it was going to end with a bloodbath. Or at least with Jordan's head mounted on a pike. Although we did get at least one severed head... Laszlo and Colin basically being The Monster's dads is both hilarious and somewhat touching at the same time. Nadja going out with a blaze of glory! All thanks to unknowingly falling for a scam! Nandor and Gizmo are going to fight crime?! The Batman/Robin comparisons make sense on the surface, but with the way Nandor generally acts, I'm almost getting a Dexter vibe instead. Can't believe it's almost over. What a ride it has been! 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8529216

iMonrey December 10 Share December 10 I wonder why we didn't get a preview for the series finale. Series finale! I can't bear to say goodbye to this show. It's been so good. Granted, a few of the earlier episodes this season weren't exactly winners but these last two have really rocked. The writers, they've still got it. Whoever that is playing the monster is so good. Even when he's just in the background not speaking he's acting up a storm. It's hilarious. I really have no idea where they're going with Nandor and Guillermo, but I doubt it will turn romantic. I've always felt a more fatherly/son type of relationship with them. Or maybe even a Batman/Robin thing, although that tends to veer into the homoerotic. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8529377

I don't think Nandor and Guillermo will get romantic but I do think they will (and already are) best of friends, kind of like brothers. That monster actor is fantastic. I wonder who he is. Loved the severed head at the end! Don't give Nadja any s---! 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8529421

There were a few near misses, like Nandor killing Jordan and The Monster popping that one guy's head -- I know Nadja got a head -- but yes, I thought there'd be a bloodbath. There's always next week! Actually, it would be more satisfying (to me) if Guillermo gets his revenge the legal way, thru informing the FTC. 21 hours ago, iMonrey said: I wonder why we didn't get a preview for the series finale. I never thought he would become such a wonderful character. You're right about the actor being great. I'm so glad The Monster sees that he has two daddies. I wish they'd give him a real name. That would make him happy. Nandor: I would like a beer. On the rocks. Jordan: Like Mossad? Nandor: Gesundheit. Did anyone else think of the UnitedHealthcare CEO killer when Nandor was talking about fighting injustice in society? Orbert December 11 Share December 11 Good stuff! Presumably an end to the Cannon Capital arc. Maybe a little anticlimactic, but Nandor got to kick Jordan's ass, so that was fun. We got to see in no uncertain terms that Jordan was just stringing Guillermo along. Too bad about Lisa. I liked her. I'm honestly not clear on where Nandor and Guillermo are headed next. They're going to be the next Batman and Robin of Manhattan or something? Okay... Interesting turn with the monster choosing the name Robinson's Monster. We saw how Colin Robinson was working with the monster, guiding him and trying to get him to understand things, while Laszlo was most just shouting orders at him. The turn wasn't unexpected I guess, but I do wonder what the significance might be. So they've thrown some things out there to tie up (neatly?) with the series finale. This will be fun. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8530147

Although he doesn't remember it, Colin was raised by Laszlo with a great deal of care and probably some affection, and that's how Colin is trying to train the monster (whom he should really give a proper name.) 5 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8530553
Orbert December 12 Share December 12 Ah yes, I'd forgotten that. But it would seem that Laszlo doesn't regard the monster in a fatherly way, not the way he did with baby Colin Robinson. It's more master and slave. Colin Robinson showed the monster that there are other types of relationships, with the monster still subservient, but with his feelings respected. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8530778
peeayebee December 12 Share December 12 Colin was right about Laszlo turning The Monster into a performing monkey. That was so sad. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8530966
Orbert December 12 Share December 12 Yeah, Laszlo was all "my monster, my creation, my achievement" and the monster was just a thing to him. Colin Robinson treated the monster as a person. And that's perhaps unexpected, considering that Colin Robinson is an energy vampire. But this show does give us unexpected twists now and again. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8530984
tennisgurl December 12 Share December 12 Poor Guillermo, he just exchanged one master who's always stringing him along for another one, one who cares about him even less. A bit of an anticlimax for the end of Guillermo's run as a finance bro, but at least he got the last laugh and Nandor got to kick Jordan's ass pretty good. Yeah, maybe don't constantly talk about your crimes while a whole camera crew is recording everything. I have no idea how the finale is going to play out, but I'm excited! 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8531021

Lantern7 December 14 Share December 14 I'll have to rewatch the episode. It was okay, and I'm glad the Cannon Capital storyline is finished, but it doesn't feel like the finale will be a definitive end. I could go for a movie, but I'd understand the showrunner(s) ending the series for good after six seasons. Is it too much to ask how the Monster can be seen with no one freaking the hell out? I mean, it's not like I'd expect people to think he's made of dead body parts, but the big stitches on his face should be a warning sign. I can't imagine the vampires zipping into a situation, hypnotizing everyone to think that him/it is a normal guy, zip back out, and then enter like nothing had happened. I still don't like Tim Heidecker. I'd suggest watching his stuff on Adult Swim as an explanation as to why I'm not a fan, but that would involve you watching that stuff. I'm not wishing that on anybody. I posted the finale teaser on the Media thread. I'll put it up here as well. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Everybody Loves Raymond "normal episode as final episode" path, as opposed to "the documentary comes to its conclusion." Also, it's funny to see Laszlo talking about creating a bride for the monster after seeing a similar take on that in Max's Creature Commandos. Watch it if you stream that service. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8532490

Yes, but then you could say the same thing about Laszlo, Nandor, and Nadja walking around regular people who don't comment on their fangs or apparel. Granted, The Monster is more out there -- the way he looks and moves and speaks -- but I just allow that because of the nature of the show. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8532572

possibilities December 14 Share December 14 At first, I was surprised everybody just accepts the weirdness of the vampires and the monster. But then I started thinking it was really funny. People are starting to normalize nonconformity and just go with it? I actually find it pretty charming. Or they are too polite to let anybody notice they're a little freaked out by it? Also charming. When it first happened with ... now I can't remember his name, but Lazlo's friend next door, who has been hypnotized into mental impairment but Lazlo genuinely loves him-- I thought it was a comment on him specifically and how cool it was that he just rolled with the weirdness and was totally not even a tiny bit phased by it. But when it happened at Cannon Capital, I found it really hilarious. Finance is imagined to be very mainstream and locked down, but actually they are total freaks and completely unbothered by even the most far out behavior and appearance, they're just dressed to pass. Either that's social commentary, or it's just a joke, but either way it worked for me. The thing I had trouble swallowing is that Guillermo's boss allowed himself to be filmed committing and admitting to crimes. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8532714
MisterGlass December 14 Share December 14 Jordan giving Guillermo the picture of them instead of a promotion was a sad echo of Nandor giving him a picture of the two of them instead of turning him into a vampire. At least Nandor used glitter. Guillermo ripping a stake sized chunk out of a desk was a nice in-the-moment reminder that he could kick Jordan's butt if he so chose. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8532767

I should explain my post. My cable provider lists episode 11 at 10 pm with the description “a surprising twist leads to a change of plans “; another episode 11 at 10:30 or thereabouts with the same description plus “(Alternate ending)” , (Version C); followed by a third airing with the same description plus “(Alternate ending)”, (Version A). Logically this looks like there are three different endings but who knows. I’m taping all three airings just in case. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8532814
possibilities December 14 Share December 14 That's really interesting. I just checked my listings and it shows the episode S6E11 "The Finale" airing 3 times, and each airing is longer than usual (44, 45, and 46 minutes each instead of 30). The description is the same for each one, but that doesn't prove anything, because DirecTV doesn't always get things right. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151025-s06e10-the-promotion/#findComment-8532831
