Communication is crucial in the kitchen, and this week the chefs will have to prove they have what it takes to communicate with efficiency. When team members must work together in a secret ingredient challenge, some chefs will puzzle together a masterpiece, while others need to get a clue.

I really think Gordon made a mistake sending Anthony home instead of Anne Marie.  He is the better chef.  But I guess he needs more maturity, per GR.

Well, he is only 28. But I think he's more mature than Anne Marie even so.

I liked Anthony throughout the season.  What a backstory-my heart is with him and he is strong of character.  But, his dish looked bad.  I so wanted Ann Marie or Lulu to be eliminated before him.  However, Gordon let him keep his jacket so that is quite a statement!

Of course, after the first challenge the blue team is all 'well Lulu has never won an individual challenge/point' so maybe they should have considered that BEFORE choosing to keep out Egypt's dish in favor of her dish.

Kyle would be exhausting for me (seems to like all of the attention all of the time).

I liked the 'cook for your life' challenge as it shows the individual weaknesses and strengths and we get to see different dishes rather than the same dinner service menus.

I don't understand what his team has against Egypt. He has toned it down a lot since the beginning but he doesn't get any credit for anything he does.

And Ann Marie has bugged me almost from the start. Her over the top expressions and she failed on vegetables as we were reminded at the start of the episode.  There is no way she will win this.

I thought all of those lobster dishes looked terrible. Maybe they tasted great, but the plating was just one unappealing pile of mush after another. Gordon talked about how lobster is supposed to be presented as elegant and sophisticated, but that's not what those dishes looked like.

Egypt got off to a bad start the first episode by coming on too strong but he's been fine and a team player since and one of the best cooks.  I figured Gordon would have him bring up his dish after the competition and it would be great because that always happens but I was happy to see him vindicated.  I hope either Egypt or Joe wins.

We had lobster for our meal right before I watched this.  We cooked them and they looked more appetizing than the ones on the show.  I do love lobster.  But it was funny since we had just eaten it.

He is the better chef but Anne Marie didn't serve Gordon something that could have killed him.

Maybe they're having a hard time forgiving him for the way he was with them in the beginning. Unfortunately people can be that way and he was kind-of harsh for a while, there's no doubt about that, it's on camera. I'm willing to forgive but I doubt he'll win because I've never seen anyone win this show that's ever had any difficulties with the other chefs. I hope he goes far, though.

I'm not sure if he was "coming on too strong," or doing what a head chef is supposed to do . . . make sure communication is loud and clear so all the dishes get to the pass at the same time.  Some of the other "head chefs" didn't seem to understand that.

Now I think they're trying to make sure that Gordon doesn't see how good at leading Egypt really is.  But Gordon made sure that Egypt's team now realizes that nobody manipulates Gordon.  By praising that pork that Egypt made, he made the team realize that if they continue to try to sabotage one of their best chefs for non-cooking reasons, they will all pay the consequences.  I just wish Gordon had sent Egypt on the reward with the other team.

Yup, although as soon I heard the focus on his personal story, I figured he was being eliminating. This show is fairly predictable.

When Anthony said he got his first head chef position at 21, it brought up again the question of how impressed we should be by the "head chef" title. Have any of the contestants ever mentioned the size or kind of restaurant at which they're the head chef?

I don't think so.  Joe maybe.  From the looks of most of them, I'd guess that they work in family businesses or truck stops or something.  Most of them don't strike me as being able to be planners and leaders.

Yes, but in the context of this competition, Egypt was not voted nor given the role of head chef to the other chefs, nor even team captain. All of them are on an even playing field in this competition so acting that way was inappropriate and I can see how the other chefs reacted negatively to that. And I don't think they misunderstood him either. They just didn't appreciate him acting like he was head chef over them. And there are ways to deal with people without acting like you're their boss or supervisor that are just as effective at helping the team that would not have alienated the other chefs.

There is a very specified and even almost militaristic chain of command in a kitchen and in this one the only head chef is either Gordon or whoever is given the title of team captain. If Egypt was just operating under a mistaken impression that he was supposed to act as a head chef in this context but now has seen the error of his ways thanks to a talk from Gordon, I can forgive that. But can you just imagine if every chef there acted like they were the head chef? It would be crazy. I just think most of them realized that and he didn't. I do think they might be unfair to him as a result of that though. If he really has changed they shouldn't be that way toward him.
