S07.E12: Leap of Faith

Only one surprise, Ashley and Tyler. I wasn't sure how she was going to take that reveal about his three kids. I wasn't surprised at all about Marissa and Ramses, or Garrett and Taylor; both couples did pretty much what I expected.

It may just be my imagination, but as the seasons go on, it looks like more couples are calling it quits before actually having to say "No" at the altar. That has to be easier on their families, even if it doesn't give Netflix exciting footage at the ceremony.

I’m noticing the same thing, NN. I’m wondering if the early seasons they made the couples go all the way to the wedding ceremonies, and after a couple of bad experiences reflecting badly on them, I wonder if they eased up that requirement.

Marissa’s heartbreak was hard to watch.

Seriously.  I don't think I've ever seen anyone cry like that on this show.

I could not believe he had the nerve to "It's not you it's me."  Dude.

This is when Marissa's mother's nasty energy would be welcome.

Every time Ashley or Tyler said something profound during their vows, my husband would add "and those three kids."

Taylor ad Garrett - no surprise. Yay them.  Did she shorten her dress?  I am not a fan of mullet dresses.

Oh well.  Bring on the reunion.

I do suspect it might have to do with some of the controversies in the US.  I do think more go down the aisle in the international versions but maybe Netflix realized a dramatic breakup midseason would be more interesting than a "no" at the altar.

I love the nerdy quality of Garrett and Taylor's vows.

Oh Ashley, no matter what comes out about Tyler, I think she'll be ride or die.

Marissa doesn't realize it yet but Ramses did her a favor.  I had to roll my eyes when he said his brother knew more about how devastated his ex-wife was about the divorce than he did.  And he was her husband!

She did.  I also hate that style of dress but I never knew how to simply describe it.  "Mullet dress" is so perfect so thank you for that!

Am I getting this right? Ramses broke up with Marissa because he just now realized how much he hurt his ex wife with the divorce and he was too scared he'd hurt Marissa the same way?? Well that clearly backfired since she's bawling in the other room. Marissa, you are better off!!!

(Except why do I get the feeling we'll find out at they're still dating at the reunion)?

She did just do an interview that talked about what happened with them post show.

Spoiler

She offered to keep dating instead of getting married but he turned her down.  And it sounds like she tried again in February.  So it sounds like they likely won't be together---thank goodness for her sake.

re: Ashley - Yes.  I get this vibe too.  I hope I am wrong and she ditched him.

re: Marissa - Yes again.  He did her a major favor.  I just read an interview she did for Glamor magazine and I feel like he used the 'I hurt my ex so badly' as an out to make himself look better and seem more noble.  He just wanted a smooth road ahead. He did not want 'for better or worse' he only wanted the 'for better' part.  He did not want the 'in sickness or in health' part, he only wanted the 'in health' part.

So yeah if he could handle the small bumps that came up in just three weeks and found her energy 'a lot' or pouted if she didn't want sex or he needed to wear a condom, then yeah, he did her a huge favor.

I'm 100% ready for the reunion.  This season had so much drama occur off-camera and we were constantly dropped into intense conversations with next to no context.  Hopefully we get an extra long reunion where they set the record straight on almost everything.

Keeping my fingers-crossed that we find out Ashley and Tyler broke up at the reunion too.

Unpopular opinion: I didn't hate Marissa's mother throughout the season.  Yeah, she's clearly a lot to handle but it sounds like she went through several rough spots in her life that harden her and now she has zero tolerance for BS.  And she could smell Ramses' BS from a mile away.
