Annber03 October 18 Share October 18 "Suck it, Thor, pass it on!" XD. And Pete's "Come with me if you want to live!" That human chain was fun. Ahhhhhh, yay, welcome back, show! I knew from pre-season spoilers and such that Isaac would be back fairly quickly, but I wasn't expecting it to be resolved just like that. But I do love the idea that their efforts to bring Patience into the house might wind up being more of a curse than a blessing - no good deed goes unpunished, and all that :D. I love Patience. She's creepy und unsettling and weird and yet I also like how she had a few sympathetic moments as well. She's going to be a fun means to shake things up at the house. And I love her rooming with Alberta, LOL. I hope we get more of them as roommates. As for Isaac...his whole thing about his regrets when talking to Ssasappis*, aw. But of course he reneges on his offer to do good where Patience is concerned...though in his case, considering she did kidnap him and trap him in the dirt, his hesitation is valid :p. Still, now he and his captor are sharing the same house, it'll be fun to see how they continue to interact. *I really liked that Sasappis wound up being the one trapped with Isaac. I'd love to see more of those two interacting in general, they have a fun dynamic. I had the same look on my face that the others had when Sasappis was yanked into the dirt as well. I hope we get some flashbacks to them and Thor being trapped in the dirt, it'd be fun to see glimpses of how their time in there went. As for Nigel, poor guy, moping and all depressed :(. I really hope we get to explore more of his side of things regarding the breakup, and his memories and recollections about his history with Isaac in general. I'd love to get more of his perspective on that stuff. So Trevor's having a few power issues, eh? Interesting. I'm wondering if Patience being awakened, so to speak, might wind up having that kind of effect on the ghosts' powers in general going forward? That could be interesting to play with. Whatever the reason, though, hopefully we'll see how Trevor deals with that. So happy to have this show back, I can't wait to see what they've got planned for this season. 9 1 Link to comment
phalange October 18 Share October 18 So glad this show is back! Patience does seem a bit much, especially considering she got kicked out of her town for being too extreme even by Puritan standards, but I felt really bad for her when she said the dirt was her only real friend. It’s interesting how she refers to herself in the third person like Thor does and also uses her name as an exclamation. It was sweet of the ghosts to form a ghost chain to go back for her. Poor Alberta doesn’t seem thrilled with her new roomie, though. I’m guessing Patience will hang around and we’ll see her occasionally like Nigel or Nancy. Favorite line was Thor saying, “I wouldn’t wish that on any non-Dane.” Oh and, “Suck it Thor! Pass it on.” 11 1 Link to comment
Skooma October 18 Share October 18 "Ghosts" is back. Huzzah! Loved the first episode. Had a few out loud laughs in this one too. With Hetty becoming more favorable to modern day ways, having an old timey female ghost that might not be will be a nice counterpoint to the 21st century again. Nice to see 2 seconds of headless Crash to keep the show's canon intact. 11 Link to comment
shura October 18 Share October 18 Okay, I’m with Isaac. Burgundy tiles? And Mark was pushing them saying that there is limited supply? Well, there’s a reason for that, and the reason is that not many people want them. ‘Cause they are burgundy. 7 minutes ago, Annber03 said: I love Patience. Did they say she was lost in the dirt 130 years ago? So, that would be right before Hetty passed away, right? Patience was banished in 1692, died around 1700 or so, probably, and then spent time with Thor and Sass before Isaac joined them? Just establishing the timeline here. 3 minutes ago, Skooma said: Nice to see 2 seconds of headless Crash to keep the show's canon intact. They needed him for the joke that Hetty grabbed his hand because he can’t sneeze. Yeah, they mentioned that in "Holes are Bad" - while the other three older ghosts and Patience were stuck in the dirt, Hetty was about to die and become a ghost herself. She basically was alone for about a year before the other ghosts, sans Patience, finally got out of the dirt. That line from Hetty made me laugh, too. I love that Isaac's sneezing causes so much trouble for so many around him, to the point where it's a running joke :p. 4 3 Link to comment

I really hope we get to explore more of his side of things regarding the breakup, and his memories and recollections about his history with Isaac in general. I'd love to get more of his perspective on that stuff. Me, too. I do feel for the guy, but based on his melodramatic groans I suspect (hope) he's going to be a drama queen about being jilted. Some of us have said before that we'd like to see Nigel's character filled out a little more, so I hope that happens now that he and Isaac are no longer a couple. Have to admit, nice-guy Jay was uncharacteristically tactless talking about Nigel slinking back to the shed when he knew Nigel was right there listening. Not kind. 49 minutes ago, phalange said: I felt really bad for her when she said the dirt was her only real friend. It’s interesting how she refers to herself in the third person like Thor does and also uses her name as an exclamation. Patience is one of those people who's her own worst enemy: she's lonely because she has no friends (and evidently didn't when she was alive), yet her personality drives everyone away and she can't realize that. It was nice of her to let Isaac and Sass go; she's clearly got some humanity still alive inside her. I did think it odd that she sometimes sounds like Thor--it doesn't quite make sense to me, but she's supposed to have a screw loose so maybe it's not supposed to. If she's truly unhinged, I think it's because she's so repressed that she's turned herself into a roiling swamp of neuroses. 18 minutes ago, Annber03 said: I love that Isaac's sneezing causes so much trouble for so many around him, to the point where it's a running joke :p. You'd think, when he sneezed and dropped Patience's hand, that he'd immediately have yelled out for the others to stop so that they could slowly, cautiously try to back up and maybe find her. But no, he basically shrugged his shoulders for the next 130 years. And when he accidentally shot Nigel, was his reaction a horrified "Oh my God, what have I done?"? Nope: he just muttered "Oh, boy," as if he'd accidentally cut a slice of cake that his wife intended to serve to her sewing circle the next day. Even when he tossed Crash's head into the woods, he completely FORGOT about it even though he must have seen Crash's headless body stumbling about as a reminder. It sounds as if he's finally beginning to feel some contrition but I wonder if it will stick. 10 Link to comment

I feel like that shows how much Jay's relationship with the ghosts has developed, to where he just doesn't try to tiptoe around things with them anymore. Plus, given all the stress they put him through last season, maybe he's just out of fucks to give :p. I love the idea of Nigel being super dramatic about the breakup. I like that he and Isaac are similar in that way (they're actually similar in a lot of ways, but they're so focused on their differences that they don't stop to realize that). I too hope we're going to get to explore him as a character more, both individually and in the context of his history wtih Isaac. We've seen so much of Isaac's side of their history together, and flashbacks from his perspective about them. I'd love to see Nigel's side of things more. Quote It's funny but also exasperating that Isaac doesn't ever try to fix his mistakes. It sounds as if he's finally beginning to feel some contrition but I wonder if it will stick. LOL, yes, I love Isaac, but indeed, he's still got a LOT of lessons to learn, too. I know they've talked about this whole thing with Patience having an effect on him in terms of growing and learning from his mistakes and whatnot, so I'm guessing this'll be the start of that. It might not be a smooth trajectory, 'cause, well, Isaac :p. But I do think with time he is going to work through a few things. I think he's like Patience in that way, he too was very repressed in his time and he's only just recently been able to start really embracing and trying to be comfortable with his real self, and not the facade he's put up for so long. Nigel's comment about wondering if he ever knew the real Isaac seems to tie into that as well. So I feel like this season is going to involve him trying to figure himself out more and get more comfortable with who he is, and that might tie into him atoning (or trying to atone, anyway) for some of his past deeds. 5 Link to comment
Bastet October 18 Share October 18 This wasn't the firing on all cylinders comeback after an abbreviated season I was hoping for, but was still enjoyable. Jay saying he doesn't love that Flower's memory is load bearing was my favorite line of the night, but there were other goodies: - "Suck it, Thor. Pass it on." repeated throughout - Thor as possibly one of the first people to say "supposably" for "supposedly" - Pete's "Come with me if you want to live" I also liked Thor, knowing the pain of abandonment, saying he wouldn't wish it on any non-Dane, Isaac saying his vow to be better is only if they get out, and Pete throwing his ghost power in everyone's face. And, best of all, Hetty saying she'll take Crash's hand in the ghost chain, since at least she knows he can't sneeze. Solid return, and I hope it gets even better. 10 Link to comment
kathyk2 October 18 Share October 18 My show is back! I loved Nancy trying to avoid admitting what happened to Isaac. We learned Thor is claustrophobic. I don't think so, either, but the idea the basement ghosts seem to think so amuses me :p. I absolutely sympathize with Nigel's feelings right now. I do think Isaac meant it when he said that it wasn't until Pete started talking that all his anxieties and concerns about the wedding finally hit him and all came together, so in that sense I can understand him not bringing up those concerns sooner. Still, yes, it absolutely would've been better for both of them if he had done so. But if Isaac is going to start atoning for his past wrongs, or trying to, anyway, that will clearly be one of the things he'll have to work to resolve. And I'm looking forward to seeing if and how he does. 6 Link to comment

DrSpaceman73 October 18 Share October 18 Love that the show is back. One thing I can't get over though fir this premise. Ghost physics. Can thry not go up or down in the ground just lateral? If you're lost in the ground you can't just go up until you hit the air or above ground? I guess the same problem as in the well. 3 Link to comment
iMonrey October 18 Share October 18 Not the strongest start to the new season but I'll take whatever they give me. They had some loose ends to tie up here before they could move on. I do think Patience will make an interesting addition to the story, but along with Carol we're starting to bloat the cast just a bit. I'm thinking Patience won't be around long-term, or else will be a recurring ghost like Crash or Stephanie. My favorite bit was Thor being afraid Patience was going to grab him but not admitting to it. It was hilarious when Trevor scared him and he chopped off his hand. That's not the first time he's done that either. Also got a kick out of Isaac trying to say something nice about Sam's sweater. 8 Link to comment

I liked Sass's & Isaac's explanation of this when they were trying to get Flower out of the well. "For reasons we don't fully understand, ghosts can stand on a floor, but we go right through a wall. The side of a well is effectively a wall, and as such, impossible to scale. But if you remove floor from floor, does it stay floor? Or does it take on the properties of wall? We cursed the Gods that made floor, floor, and wall, wall." Those were some of my favorite lines of this show!! 3 1 8 Link to comment

tennisgurl October 18 Share October 18 Welcome back Ghosts, and just in time for spooky season! I missed this show so much, its great to have it back! I knew that obviously Isaac would be back soon but I'm surprised that things played out the way that they did, and now its looks like Patience will be hanging around the house for the foreseeable future. Patience was apparently always a LOT to deal with, she was even too strict and grim for the Puritans to deal with, but I do feel bad for her, being lost in the dirt for that long is terrible for anyone, let alone someone who apparently never had a lot of people in their lives. Looks like Alberta has a new roommate... Poor Nigel, its bad enough that he was left at the altar by the guy who he's had a a crush on for literally centuries, but he now has to continue living with him, he deserves all of those dramatic sighs. I really do hope that Isaac learns a lesson from all of this, I love Isaac and he does usually mean well but he really can be very selfish and doesn't think much about how his actions affect other people. Crash sighting! So many fun running jokes, like Thor avoiding walls while denying being afraid of Patience and making fun of Trevor's legs, to Jay and Pete's pop culture bromance, to Hetty's commentary on the water bill situation, there were too many funny lines to even remember. 7 Link to comment

Apparently she had moved them away (transported?) from the basement wall and back to some sort of small underground cave-like open area. They didn't know how to get back to the basement wall on their own I guess without getting into the dirt and lost again. That's a guess because that whole part was a little unclear and Flower's false memory about some cave that didn't exist under a willow tree got the whole thing even more mixed up. All I know is that Patience had them in a small cleared area underground because if they were in the dirt they would have been, you know, in the dirt solid and unable to see anything. 2 3 Link to comment

Katy M October 18 Share October 18 I didn't really enjoy last night's episode. Patience annoys me and not looking foward to her as a new character. And as others said, why did she stay in the dirt when she apparently could come and go into the basement at will. And why does she refer to herself in the third person? To the best of my knowledge that's not a Puritan characteristic. But, as always, love Pete and Jay's dynamic. 2 Link to comment

I also agree that it took that moment of actually having to say his vows that forced Isaac to realize he just couldn't do it. I genuinely wonder how Nigel's going to deal with having to be around Isaac, or trying to avoid him, if he does. The shed's getting crowded, what with Carol moving in with Baxter, and it's also occupied by his other ex, Jenkins, as well. So whether he stays in the house or goes back to the shed, he's going to be surrounded by people and will have to deal with sharing a space with an ex. I'd love to see him bond with one or more of the other ghosts, and see them trying, in their own awkward way :p, to help him. Plus, it'd just be fun to see him connect to the other ghosts in general. Isaac's line about lamenting he was a bad husband in life caught me this episode, too, 'cause even with the reassurance that Beatrice did care about him, he's clearly still feeling some guilt over not being the husband he thought he should've been for her, or that she deserved. So I'm curious if and how they'll touch on that as well. Maybe some more flashbacks to their marriage/wedding day or something? Quote He did seem irritable throughout the entire episode so, yes, maybe he's had it with bending over backwards for beings he can neither see nor hear (Pete always excepted of course), especially since they always seem to come up a bit short in the gratitude department. And given certain spoilers regarding him this season, that has me very curious how this frustration and constant bending over backwards for the ghosts will factor into that. I liked that Pete accompanied Mark to the store this episode. Maybe he's gotten over his jealousy about his friendship with Jay? Or he can handle it better now he gets to leave the property, anyway :p? 43 minutes ago, Katy M said: And why does she refer to herself in the third person? I just double-checked the season three finale, and when she comes through the wall the basement ghosts trip out that "some lady" just came through the wall and Nancy straight up asks her "Who the hell are you?" So she'd never been there before. 9 1 Link to comment

I was busy setting my table for one while reading through all the comments. I am not a fan of Patience. I felt she brought nothing and simply sucked time away from the other ghosts. I'm fine with the occasional guest ghost (car ghost, baseball player ghost), but they brought on Carol and then forget about her most of the time (which is fine because she also annoys me) and now we have a new ghost to deal with. I was really hoping she'd get sucked off once everyone formed the human chain to bring her back. Nope. I have trust in the writers, so I am hopeful they will turn this around somehow. 3 Link to comment
Chit Chat October 19 Share October 19 I like the story of Patience and how Isaac lost her, but I'd prefer that she get sucked off within a couple of episodes. I don't want the main cast to get overshadowed by too many additions. I doubt that she'll be there for long though. Patience deserves to move onto a happier place after wandering in the dirt for so long! It's fun seeing Pete be able to leave the property, but his constant reminders about it to his friends is already wearing thin with them. That storyline will be interesting (to me, at least!) 3 1 Link to comment
Annber03 October 19 Share October 19 This show seems hesitant to let ghosts be sucked off - see how last season's storyline in that regard played out. So I don't know that they'll be doing that with Patience here, the creators and cast seem pretty happy to have her on the show. But I do think she'll be one of those characters who, after her initial little storyline here, will just pop in every so often if and when need be. 4 Link to comment
