Chicago Redshirt May 7 Share May 7 I wonder how much Applebee's pays for the right to be the provider of the reward. My guess is $1-2 million. Whatever it was, they got their money's worth this episode. Probably more people talking Applebee's this week than any corresponding week in the last few years. 1 2 Link to comment

Lot of good Indian food in Fiji! But fair warning: the chicken roti sandwiches might be cooked chicken still on the bone all chopped up. I did eat at a Pizza Hut in Suva decades ago, but Wikipedia shows that there are no Applebee's anywhere near Fiji. I never really warmed to Liz, but this episode she lost me altogether even before the challenge, when she yelled in her talking head that the others were all "hobags!" Nice mysoginistic talk from a mom with a female child. And you all have said it about the tantrum. How could Q even know what her "big move" was that he "blew up," and even if he did, how was he obliged to let her make it? If ever a loved on of mine went on something like this and said they wished they had won the reward because having that specific food would be the only way they would feel connected to me? I would be so insulted! I don't care if the contestants were to Zoom in, but I'd miss the establishing nature shots. This ep had a lovely tern stooping, and then I don't know if those massed birds silhouetted against the sunset were also terns, but I liked them. I also like the wave shot at the beginning even if they mess it up by CGIing the logo onto it, LOL. I could do without the "challenge establishing shots" of sandbags or broken tiles or whatnot being tossed willy-nilly in the air. Which production assistants get to do that? "Well, Glen caught it in the head with a piece of tile last shot, so Joe, you're on sandbag-tossing duty. Remember to include a handful of sand, and don't forget your eye protectors." Mileage varies, obv, but I don't see Maria as smug. I think that's just her face. I mean, I've seen her smiling even when she's messing up in challenges--not always, but I think with her age and profession she's just someone who's good at looking calm and content a lot of the time. I think Ben's okay as a person but his gameplay is nil, and Liz is obviously at the bottom of my list. Like someone upthread said, Q's smile helps him get away with a lot of stuff for me, and he's still entertaining to watch IMHO. Kenzie? glad she didn't burn her hair off!--she's still one of the better players here to me after Charlie and Maria. 3 Link to comment

What a waste, all that bother and jet lag just to cook a burger that everyone has to watch get covered in flies and then make three more that no one will eat because they're drunk and full of appetizers. 1 1 2 Link to comment

I have more respect now for Charlie having won two endurance immunity challenges in a row. He beat uber jock Hunter and strong girl Tiffany. Yep! Link to comment

Wonder how they choose who gets to go. I presume its someone from an L.A. area Applebees? Do they look at top performers, who has the most seniority, who kisses the most ass? I think it must be the highlight of that guy's year to get chosen to fly to Fiji and appear on the show. 9 hours ago, Chicago Redshirt said: I wonder how much Applebee's pays for the right to be the provider of the reward. Yes, but if the indication here is representative of the general public, mostly not in a good way. Here it was mostly "who TF goes to Applebees", "Applebees sucks", "if I were starving I guess I would eat it", "there's a lot better food than Applebees", "that woman is crazy to cry so much, get a grip, it's just Applebees". The worst part is that their name was connected to the woman who had a hissyfit because she didn't get chosen. 1 Link to comment

I doubt they’d want to hitch themselves onto a sinking ship. I’m sure they’ve already won short term with the number of times the meltdown has been watched and discussed at the water cooler. The DIN stock price went up after last night, possibly just a coincidence. Btw has anyone successfully used the “how dare he not take me when I begged “ line outside of bdsm? Also, a big theme of the episode was that no one ate the burger that Liz lost her mind over. And yes, I know that they stuffed themselves on appetizers and milkshakes, but the underlying headline is still "Even starving people won't eat our burgers..." which is actually kinda appropriate as Applebee's burgers are pretty disgusting. Q won back a few points from me for not caving to Liz's meltdown when she'd voted for him just one night prior and they aren't currently working together. I'd recently rewatched All Stars and this reminded me of when Rupert and half the tribe thought Big Tom should automatically pick Rupert for a family reward because of the over the top PDA display with his wife, but Big Tom picked Rob instead for his own reasons. It made sense to me that Tiff held onto her idol last tribal after all the chaos moved the target off of her, but it was foolish to think she could hold onto it one more tribal. Make it through this one and see what tomorrow brings. Am I correct that there are currently NO idols or advantages sitting with anyone in the game? Feels impossible with the way they load these things up, but I feel like all advantages and idols have either been played or walked out in pockets. Link to comment

They have gorgeous coconut sauced prawns, delicious seafood of all kinds, and wonderful Indian food as well as Fijian/Indian/Chinese mash ups. I'd rather see contestants earn local food that American processed crapfood flown across the world. And while I'm at it, why the hell is the TC srt made up to looking a Chinese pagoda? Ditto the Immunity Necklace has no local flavor. If you're IN Fiji, then embrace the culture and bring that into the sets and props ffs. Maybe I'm just over this show after so many years and thebfact that the casting has gotten abysmal lately. 4 3 Link to comment

Maybe I'm just over this show after so many years and thebfact that the casting has gotten abysmal lately. It seems that Survivor is here to stay in Fiji permanently. I miss when they would rotate around to different countries, it was always great getting a slice of local culture. I guess they decided to build permanent structures on the same island in Fiji because it's cheaper. I miss when the rewards would be to experience some local culture, like going to a local orphanage in the Phillippines (?) and handing out shoes and toys. Some of the contestants had said it was so meaningful. Now it seems that every reward is either food or supplies for the tribe, or once we get to the merge, a visit to the sanctuary. It does seem completely backwards that a reward in Fiji ends up being food from one of the crappiest of American restaurants, simply because that restaurant paid a lot of money for the privilege. How about a reward of a trip to a local Fijian village and a Fijian feast? 1 1 Link to comment
