This was a fun bottle episode taking place entirely in the courthouse. It was a little hard to follow at first, but I appreciate its ambition.

It's odd that Allison is such a sad sack. She was even before her divorce. They seem to be doubling down on that and I'm not sure what to make of it. But it really worked this episode for the sake of comedy.

This is just such a fun, cleverly written show. I don't have a lot to say about it beyond how much I enjoy it. I hope the ratings are good.

Caution:
Way too complicated to watch if you're sleepy.
Like old school Perry Mason.

I want Gus's sandwich for lunch.

Why wasn't Margaret defending Allison in traffic court?

Didn't Margaret's ex go to Iceland because he has a terminal illness and wanted to live out his last days there (for some reason)??
Or was that a lie and and he was just running off with another woman???

Very fun episode.  It seems like the producers are settling in with this show and getting creative with the stories and the characters.  They know what they have with the show and where they want to take it, and I'm happy to be along for the ride.

This was the first time I actually liked Todd's sister.  She was such a downer last season; at least now she's still a downer, but in a more entertaining way.

My guess is that Allison does not want her mother to know what a complete and total mess her life is.

This may be my favorite episode of the series so far. I loved Allison thinking/overthinking the puppets after she testified as an expert witness.

This is what the series should be. It is the spiritual successor to Psych not some gritty CBS procedural drama.

The elephant puppet was named Michelephant. What was the alligator's name?

especially: “But I suppose there is a living hand presence inside of them.”

Why has Beverly's personality completely switched to evil? She wasn't like this last season was she?

IIRC, at the end of the first season Beverly was finally showing her compassionate side, but I guess Evil Mastermind is her default mode?

I think that is work/professional persona, her "game face" as it were. She wants people to believe that she willing to do anything for her client or to win a case. As she mentions to the lady she was trying to win over as a client.

Beverly has always been antagonistic towards Margaret. She's on the ultimate power trip. This is the first time we've actually seen her try a case as far as I recall so that's a different side of her we hadn't seen before.

I just love this show and concur with @Sarah 103, it’s the “spiritual successor of Psych” which was such a delightful, unique series.  SHMT has a fun and very talented cast, great energy, good cases.  I was glad to see Carlo Marks as the husband — I have always enjoyed him in his Hallmark roles.  Only nitpick is that I would tone down the Dastardly Beverly / Disney Villain persona — it’s just cartoonish.

Yeah, I really don’t get what they’re trying to convey with her persona/screen presence. It’s as if she’s on a bit too much Valium or something. Everything she does/says seems in slow motion, she never changes facial expression, and her “needs” for the practice are rather narrow/single minded. Her attempts to foist the financial pressures onto the staff are rather menacing.

They should have made Allison the  "Straight Man/Woman" of the show instead of a blue room with no ceiling while it's storming outside.  ETA: But she was funny in this episode.

I think I was conflating Francie and Beverly. I honestly thought they were the same character. Other than their hair being curly and around the same age they don't really look alike. My only excuse is I am usually also playing the sims and half paying attention.
