Gramto6 February 7 Share February 7 Guy has the Tournament of Champions with a huge machine where they spin a bunch of wheels to determine items, cook style, time and a bunch of other stuff. Stupid if you ask me! 1 Link to comment

AAEBoiler February 7 Share February 7 Good grief, this is the worst format ever! They made the winner of the first competition compete again in the second and the third if she won that and so on. That made it virtually impossible for her to make it all the way to the end. Do better Chopped. 8 Link to comment

Do better Chopped. Yup. Does the winner of the last group win it all? Even if they were a member of the last group picked? That really isn't fair to those who go in earlier rounds. 4 2 Link to comment
Grizzly February 7 Share February 7 (edited) I was getting very tired of Cidney, so glad she didn't squeak by till the end. The last three will have the easiest path to winning. Edited February 7 by Grizzly Punctuation matters 2 Link to comment

Edit: I just (sort of) watched the 2nd episode and had to skim because I cannot stand Brian Malarkey. Sigh. Edited February 7 by sharifa70 5 Link to comment
ZoqFotPik February 8 Share February 8 (edited) 1. I've always thought "You know what this show needs? More people commenting on what each chef is doing." 2. I completely agree that this format is stupid. There is absolutely no benefit to being in the early rounds. It would have made sense if the winner of each round gets 1/5 of the final pot. So there would be an advantage to being in the competition longer. I did the math, .25^x, to determine their chances of winning, first round has a 0.098%, second round has a 0.39%, third round 1.56%, fourth 6.25%, and fifth obviously a 25%. Edit: I just finished watching the second episode and I think it's funny that for all emphasis on spinning the wheel, the total is only $1000 higher than two regular episodes. Jst2Wld February 10 Share February 10 Is FN running out of ideas for newer creative shows? Just keep Chopped as is. I don't like any of these spin-offs. And I really hate the "Casino" (Royale? or whatever it's called) 4 Link to comment
Grizzly February 14 Share February 14 Round 3. There was more food on the appetizer plates than the entrées. And since when do you have to use the whole item? So what that Becky didn't use the dumplings? The guys both pureed theirs so it's not like the judges could point to where the dumplings were in the dishes. 4 Link to comment

How many zillion times have we seen cheftestants just use the broth/gravy from an item or just pull out a particular fruit/veggie? Many, many, many times! Was this some new rule just for this competition? Or were they just looking for something to get her knocked out? Did not seem fair! 3 1 Link to comment

I know it's probably the editing as the judging takes a couple of hours, but sometimes it really does seem like they are looking for a reason to get rid of somebody. I mentioned this last week, but it continues to amuse me that for all "You could win $75000!", the total after 3 episodes is only $3000 higher than 3 normal episodes. 1 1 Link to comment
Mellowyellow February 17 Share February 17 This format makes no sense!!!! Has no one pointed this out to the network! It is the most stupid thing ever and is so aggravating in its stupidity and lack of fairness!!!! Grrrrr On the other hand I like Malarky as a judge. I think he’s lovely and constructive! 5 Link to comment

FN would probably counter with the contestants knew what they were getting into. I am wondering if the winners of each round will be brought back in some attempt at fairness. I know Brian Malarky is over the top, but I like him, especially when he's not cooking! His remarks as a judge and his reactions to critiques of his work are spot on. 6 Link to comment

nitrofishblue February 22 Share February 22 I really dislike the format of this current competition. It is so unfair to all. A chef could win four challenges yet have to walk away winning NOTHING. This is one of the dumbest formats EVER. It is bad enough that the chefs have to fight over the fryer and ice cream machine. Did Alton compile this challenge? I DVR the show so I can watch the next day. That means I can fast forward thru all the BS talking and long winded intros. 5 Link to comment

We've complained about this in the past with Food Network shows, but it's really no different from the other tournaments (Kids Baking Tournament, Tournament of Champions, etc.), where you have to get through multiple rounds before you win anything. 1 Link to comment

This differs in that a whole new crew of cooks face off in each round. The only holdover is the winner from the previous round. The chances of winning from the first group are very low. At least on TOC, KBC, etc. everyone gets an equal chance to win as they advance forward each successive round. TOC a little different in that they employ the bracket format and one on one cooks. Chopped only has a one on one in the dessert round. But to win from the first group, you have to beat a whole host of people, WINNING each round. Winning is also necessary in TOC, but you only have to beat 4 people. In the baking championships, one can skate by in the middle and still emerge victorious. 7 Link to comment

Salacious Kitty February 29 Share February 29 At least the guy who won had to go 9 rounds and win 3 times. I was so afraid someone from the last group would win. That would have been alarmingly unfair. 4 Link to comment
schnauzergirl February 29 Author Share February 29 51 minutes ago, Gramto6 said: I'll second that!! This format was very unfair to the earlier contestants! Yet the winner came from the first group and cooked his way to the Grand Championship. And Josh made an interesting comment to the effect that because he cooked in so many rounds, Peter knew his way around the Chopped Kitchen and the judges' expectations. The fact that the challengers watched each round and heard the judges' comments might be considered an advantage. They observed the strengths and weaknesses of the other chefs and, even though the judges varied from week to week, got a sense of the judging process and specific critiques. I wasn't crazy about the format, but didn't find it unfair. Link to comment

mlp March 1 Share March 1 I would have been OK with any of the three men in the finale winning provided they clearly outcooked the others. However, I was glad Peter won because he'd had to do a lot more to earn it. I thought Josh had the better dessert but that wasn't the sole deciding factor. I think the format of this tournament has some inherently unfair problems as others have said. I hope they don't do it again. 3 Link to comment

schnauzergirl April 25 Author Share April 25 Sorry I've already forgotten his name, but the guy who kept calling his dishes by the wrong name, only to have Geoffrey correct him as only Geoffrey can, including a bit of a lecture at the close. The other two judges (Maneet and Brooke) agreed with Geoffrey and called the chef out as well. I was amazed that a chef was sent home because of poor knife skills. At this level of cooking, that's hard to understand. Looking at her finished plate, though, it was a clear misstep. 1 Link to comment

AZChristian June 12 Share June 12 We watched the 6/11 episode this morning. There was no surprise when the chef cut himself. He was hacking away at pork belly like some of the contestants on Naked & Afraid chop down trees (right before the knife bounces and cuts them). 1 Link to comment

schnauzergirl October 3 Author Share October 3 (edited) Such masterful cooking on the "Legends" finale. Since the winner was declared the "first Chopped Legend," I hope this format will become an annual thing. And having four judges as sous chefs was fun, although I did find it hard to catch what each was doing at any given time. The ending was incredible. No spoilers -- I hope if you haven't seen this episode, you'll catch it at some point. Edited October 3 by schnauzergirl Link to comment

Rammchick October 3 Share October 3 I knew the winner would do that! Lovely gesture. 3 Link to comment
ZoqFotPik October 3 Share October 3 Spoiler Sara & Scott won. If you watch the episode intro closely, they give away who makes to the dessert round. They really need to stop doing that. Setting that aside, I thought it was obvious who was getting chopped in the first two rounds because the judges only said bad things about one dish. 3 Link to comment
