In season 1 and 2 they didn't yell as much and when someone passed it felt more serious. I don't recall any yelling, except for the time they prompted that lady it was her turn. But that's not my objection. My objection are these little exchanges between randos on the floor right before the duel starts: "She's got this." "She's been studying, she knows this category." "This is going to be a tough one." WTF? First of all how the hell do these people even know any of the other contestants and why on earth would we care what they think about the matchup? Imagine any other gameshow cutting to a couple of audience members going "Oh, I hope so-and-so wins" "I think so-and-so has this in the bag!" 4 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8607922

According to one of the contestants, there is a great deal of discussion and strategizing among the contestants during the down time between filming episodes. I’m not that interested in the chit chat either, but I guess the producers think it adds something to the duels. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8608153
Lantern7 March 15 Share March 15 (edited) "Real Housewives" is a nightmare category for me. I do not give a shit about the franchise. I like Robot Chicken, but this bit didn't nudge me either way. BTW, Parallax parallel FTW. Brian is going home with at least $100K. I think that might be the most he's made for a few days' work. I'm not hating . . . I'm impressed. Also, Archie Comics is doing a project featuring a crossover with Jay & Silent Bob, and I'm betting that Dante will be in there. GameJayAnalysis March 20 Share March 20 Finally! The left side of the floor has taken matters into their own hands and decided that they should overtake brian. If you can't beat the 20k club, join the 20k club. I thought Sifat and stephanie's strategies were good, because inheritance is horrible. Inheritance eventually takes you out. You fill find something that is not defendable. From here on out. the two sides of the floor will fight for 20k. No more easy wins. Thank god. And no longer will the randomizer be a factor(cough * episode 3 * cough *), I think. No hate on Brian, I'm just glad the other side of the floor came to their senses and didn't pass up the chance to even up the game. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8612077
gonzosgirrl March 20 Share March 20 So the woman who had the Crayon Colors category said (paraphrasing) she thought she had it down, but didn't realize there were 120 colors now. So I guess that confirms they are given categories to choose from, rather than coming in with one? (If that's been confirmed previously, my apologies.) I generally don't like to see one contestant dominate a game, but it is hard not to root for Brian. He's done well defending his inherited categories and genuinely thrilled and grateful for the position he's found himself in. Taeolas Thursday at 04:21 PM Share Thursday at 04:21 PM I think some of the strategy I'm noticing this time around, is to minimize your exposure to the randomizer. I think I especially noticed it last week when there were 3 single spots all hiding behind Anatomy and Poetry. One of them got randomizer picked, and she immediately snagged the other two single spots. Then instead of going for the bonus, she went back to the floor which I can see the value of. (I may be misremembering some details; I can't even remember what the categories were now). If you have 2+ squares and are surrounded by 2+ square categories, then you yourself are safe from the randomizer AND you know the randomizer won't (can't) pick anyone around you. So you can be fairly confident you'll have time before your category will be picked and you won't have to go on the attack right away either. This strategy works best for people with squares near the edges where you already have some protection. Not that I'm likely to be on the game show, but that's probably what I would try to do. On the other hand, if I inherit or get a category with a lot of space, I'd probably try to nibble at the single square categories around me (fighting towards an edge) to get a time boost and/or to cut down on the number of randomizer targets that can go after me. 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8625087

Taeolas Thursday at 05:41 PM Share Thursday at 05:41 PM I do wonder how they judge this show. Unlike other quiz shows like Jeopardy, the time limits are quite strict and you can't really reset if you mess up. I would probably have a team of judges and split the categories up between them so the judges are familiar with it. And for each round, I'd have 3 judges listening to answers. If they think they hear the right answer they push a button. Any 2 judges pushing the button will give the contestant the clue. It also seems like they get more specific as the round goes on. Early on they accept more generic answers like "Dinosaur" or "Airplane" but later on they may need something more specific ("Stegasaurus" or "Boeing 777" ) 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8625146

You just have to wait for the randomizer to do it's work and force that person to be forced to play something else they might hate. The "critters" guy fell to this. I try to play along but even in categories I know I'm nowhere quick enough to come up with the answer. My brain must be slowing down. Names are especially hard to come up with. I keep waiting for someone to choose The Crown. I would rock that category. I could have written the above comment word for word. I'm also looking forward to seeing The Crown and hoping it's mostly about the British monarchy which has been my special interest for decades. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8625392
illdoc Friday at 06:35 PM Share Friday at 06:35 PM I call "Foul" on the "Puppets" category (despite getting most of them). A lot of those weren't puppets! Big Bird is certainly not a puppet (is Barney the Dinosaur a puppet? Of course not)! I also don't think of ventriloquist dummies as puppets either. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8626113

While it may look like it’s simply a person in a costume like Barney, Big Bird is, in fact, a puppet. While the performer is inside the costume, he still requires puppetry to work (it’s pretty ingenious how they do it…all the credit in the world to performers like Carol Spinney, because it is not an easy task!) 1 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/142485-the-floor-general-discussion/page/7/#findComment-8626818
