Oh, I get that it is a BIG DEAL, but not sure about the frenzy.  But as you say, different strokes.  I'm always surprised by fans' fervor for a romantic pairing.  :)

And I have to confess, I raised my eyebrows at your description of the anticipated love scenes that are upcoming, because there was such a dearth of them last season.

Was it the use of the word semi?  Haha, just kidding.  I didn't miss those scenes as much as some fans seemed to, last season.  I thought Season 2 was epic.  And I've enjoyed this season so far.  I'm sure I'll enjoy episode six as well.

Well, I'm not as crazy or batshit as some who actually believe that Sam and Cait are a couple in real life or that they "betraaayed" them when they insist they're just very good friends. But I just love their chemistry and how they've brought Jamie and Claire to life and I willna lie--I'm like a tween when it comes to them! ?

It was the whole woird, lass! ?

I've got a question and a bit of an unpopular opinion. I wasn't sure where to ask it, so I'll put it here.  I have a friend who is beside herself over the last 5 minutes of episode 5 (where Claire and Jamie see each other again for the first time in 20 years) and she has rewatched it over and over and over again.  And cries. And clearly that is a thing, as my Instagram keeps reminding me, to watch only that part over and over, but I don't get it.  While I love the television series and think it is a beautifully filmed show, with lots of pretty people in it, I'm not going gaga over the scene in the print shop. Perhaps I'm not a real fan.  :(   I have rewatched many of the episodes several times because I loved the way they were filmed.  So my question is, why should I care so much about a single scene?  And the hotly anticipated semi-pornographic reunion episode in two weeks? I'm more interested when they talk about the history or the time-travel bit.

Because the show is about Jamie & Claire. It's a romance. And that's what most of the fans want to see.

That doesn't exactly answer @cardigirl's question, though does it?  Her question was, 'why should she care'?  Not 'why does everyone else seem to care so much'?

The answer is: I don't think there's a real answer to your question, @cardigirl.  If you don't care about it all that much, and are more interested in the show for the history or time-travel bit, I think that's okay.  And I don't think it means you aren't a 'real fan' of the show.  Some people are just more invested in the Jamie and Claire romance (perhaps even over-invested) than others.  There's nothing wrong with that either.

I'll admit, I liked having the scene in the last episode.  Mainly, I'm just glad they didn't go for the cheap cliff-hanger and leave it until the next episode.  But I certainly didn't cry over it either.

I guess although I love the history and the other characters just as much.  Just surprises me that people are that invested in a romance.  I'm old though.  :)

I liked that they ended the episode where they did, too, rather than fading to black as she walked in or when she heard Jamie's voice. And I enjoy their relationship.

I didn't realize we had two threads for this.  So I'll repost my unpopular opinion here.  Mods can delete the other one if desired.

I think Sam and Cait are at the point where they can barely tolerate each other.  I don't see some great friendship, I don't see some great chemistry.  Don't know what went wrong, but they remind me of Fillion and Katic but are not yet to Willis and Shepherd levels.  Their joint appearances are utterly painful to watch.

I try not to get too much into the marketing efforts to sell Sam and Cait as avatars in real life for Jamie and Claire. The promotional campaign has done them and their personal lives a disservice. I agree about their joint appearances, but I can't say why - I'm leaning more toward them just not being great at interviewing. They spent some fifteen-ish years just working and being in the creative fields, and now they are promoted as "superstars," which in all honesty they aren't. They are the stars of a popular show, but being a superstar personality is its own job and a lot of successful actors don't want or can't do the superstar charm strut. Christopher Eccleston comes to mind.

Don't know what the purpose of this statement is.  I am not involved in any squicky overly infested fan-level BS and not sure why this statement was necessary.  I simply do not think Sam and Cait like each other.  No more, no less.

We only see Sam and Cait through the lens of marketing and promotion - that's why I said what I did. The only non-acting interactions to judge their off-camera relationship (friends or not) is through comic cons, magazine interviews, etc. Those are all orchestrated through PR teams at the network. :-)

My unpopular opinion is that in Season 3 so far, Sam has better chemistry with the actress who played Geneva, and their gross-rapey-sex was hotter than Claire and Jamies! Ewww I really wish this was not the case but IMO there it is. Also Sam has better chemistry with LJG actor than Cait.   Hopefully Sam and Cait will get some kind of groove back, because that chemistry really made their scenes great and the show more dynamic IMO.

Also, it could be an act. Look at where being friendly and flirtatious in the past at public events got them - fanatics have invaded their personal lives and think they are a real life couple. Maybe they've toned it down on purpose.

I see Sam and Cait working next to each other in interviews and draw my conclusions from that.  I couldn't care less about anything else.  I suspect there is on set trouble between them.  I do not understand why you persist in making this observation into something weird and creepy.  I just watched a few recent interviews (I never cared to watch any in the past) and got the very strong impression that they don't like each other.

I think they like each other fine. The recent videos of them reading the fan fiction and bloopers from that after hours thing on MTV seem to show two people who like each other. Plus this week they were just supporting each other's tweets with regard to Lynette Rice's ridiculous headline about Sam's makeup artist. But they are actors so who knows?

The personal space invasion they've dealt with is horrifying.

Huh? Please give examples.

My unpopular opinion is that I don’t really care for Claire now that she’s time traveled back in time.  I don’t think she considered all the ramifications of her appearance 20 years later beyond her love for Jamie. Also, she is critical, judgmental and smug when she should be hanging back and trying to get the lay of the land. She doesn’t know who Jamie is or what he’s been up to any more than he does about her. And her comment about not knowing how it is to be a parent was, IMO, the wrong thing to say to someone who has been unable to be a part of his children’s lives for reasons beyond his control. Jamie isn’t perfect and has made his share of missteps since Claire’s return, but of the two she has been the more intolerable and unlikeable. Furthermore, the whole surgical procedure scene was fucking ridiculous. That part of the script should have been majorly tweaked, if not just canned. It was too elaborate, too long and nobody cared.

Sorry, not a big enough fan of non-story Cait and Sam to really remember.  There was one where they were just talking about stuff sitting down on a couch with an interviewer and another where they were supposed to know stuff about each other and failed miserably.

I've seen those with many, many sets of co-stars, and they all fail miserably.  I don't think that means they hate each other though, I think that just means they don't know what each others' favorite ice cream topping from when they were 8 years old is.  Those questions are silly.

From all the interviews of the cast (not just Sam and Cait), they all come across as liking each other and getting along well. No, that doesn't necessarily mean they are BFFs who braid each other's hair, but they seem to like each other just fine. If you're spending 10 months of the year filming a series, you probably don't want to hang together off set.

Guys, I'm not going to argue it. My assessment based on body language, they way they talked to/about each other, and the general sense in the room, to me, read that they don't like each other.  Feel free to continue the pile on, but please remember this is a thread to have unpopular opinions not gang up on people who might be assaulting your worldviews or something.  I'm done here.

Unpopular opinion--I really don't want them to go to France. Nothing against France, but one of the appeals of this series to me is the Scottish landscape. France is very been there done that with me, especially since they're not actually going to be filming in France. I know Cait has been saying it will be lush and bright, but give me gritty Scotland any day and rough and tumble Jamie to boot. I know he's a laird (uh, is he still a laird?) but, yeah, no gentrified Jamie for me.

I started watching Outlander when it showed up on Netflix; however, once I got to season two and France I just lost interest.  I keep trying to watch season 2.... So I guess my UO is season 2 isn't very good.

There were parts here and there that i enjoyed about Paris, but in general I liked the 2nd half of the season better, when they were back in Scotland.  I'm not all that wild about seasons 4 & 5 in America either for the same reason.  I wish they'd just figure out stories for everyone back in Scotland.  And I know exec producer Matt Roberts agrees.

I could have watched the first half of their time in Paris with the sound off, Clair's wardrobe was amazing!!!!

Claire's capes alone were a reason to watch!
