S07.E08: Almost Home

I honestly find it stunning that any of the writers on this show would think that the bulk of the TB audience would be at all interested in a LM story let alone a LM story where Tara is dead and can only be shown via flashbacks or dream sequences. Then on top of that she's nonsensical in the dream sequences and both the audiences and characters had no idea what was going on. What was the point of the constant presence of the snake? Why have Tara speaking in tongues? 

 

 

There's no point to it, other than the writers must have thought it would look and sound way cool.

I really enjoyed this episode.

Nice to see Violet's demise courtesy of Hoyt. If he hadn't stepped in, things would've gotten a little too torture porn with Jason, Jessica, Adilyn and Wade.

The resolution to Tara and Lettie Mae's storyline - I'm not sure of it. It wasn't as bad as expected but I'm still hoping we get a shot of Tara in the series finale though.

Has anyone seen Willa at all? She's been gone for three episodes. Plus no Sam and Nicole in this one.

I see a Jason/Jessica/Hoyt/Bridget quadrangle being set up here. Some interesting scenes though with the characters though.

Loved Sookie being mean to Sarah. I can't really say I have any sympathy for Sarah at all. She's a problem any way you look at it.

Bill not accepting her blood was trite though, so perhaps he'll be the one to die and Sookie ends up with Eric then, 8/10

I may have missed it, but why was Arlene wearing such a fancy cut-out cocktail dress at the bar? 

 

Re: Tara...my feeling at this point is that they left her death off-screen and ambiguous precisely so that we would wonder if Lettie Mae did it. Plus a few subtle cues like LM saying she 'took care of' Tara. Which in turn means they wanted us to wonder that for a few episodes, because they had absolutely nothing else to build tension with because that storyline sucked so hard.

I wish the story had turned out to be that Lettie Mae had killed Tara. Maybe Tara was infected with Hep V and she asked her to do it. Even that would be more intriguing than the Redemption of Lettie Mae.

I really enjoyed this episode. Maybe I'm too much of a simple person, but I thought all the storyline closures were done well. Granted, the LettieMae/Tara storyline dragged on forever and while I think it could have been much shorter, I'm glad we got the "let's move on, no more anger" message from it.

 

Loved all the scenes with Jason, Jessica and Hoyt. The "new" friendship between Jason and Hoyt was so nice to witness. I was glad Hoyt was the one to kill Violet!

 

While True Blood as always managed to surprise me, I saw Bill not taking the cure from a mile away. It was so evident to me he was going to say no. I think it all stems from his conflicts with his humanity/vampire state and that dream he had of Sookie holding the black hole faced baby. But I don't think he's going to die... Or will he?

 

When Sookie showed up at Fangtasia all I could hear in my head was Pam's "Fucking Sookie" LOL I was disappointed she didn't say it!

The first few seasons of this show were very entertaining but the last few have been super cheesy & very predictable. The Tara & her mother story ran on way too long. Even though I liked Sam, his story has added nothing the past couple of seasons. They never finished the panther story line. That was enjoyable, I though we were going to get a panther/wolf showdown. 

 

This last episode where Hoyt's girlfriend got mad at him & jumped in Jason's car & refused to get out was so stupid. No one would do that. Jason is a stranger to them. It was not believable.

 

Boy, Sookie gets over people fast. She "loves" them all, but sure hops from one to the other. Alcid's side of the bed isn't even cold & she's already in Bill's. I know he's her "true love" but I know I could not get over a death so quickly.

I couldn't agree more. Tara's character lasted way too long for me & should've been put to rest a few seasons ago. Same goes for Sam. He's a nice guy but his story is boring.They needed to clean house about 2 seasons ago. Mostly everyone became super cheesy. I only like the scenes now with Eric & Pam. They are entertaining.

This episode was boring as usual, although I enjoyed Hoyt killing Violet, and also his reunion with Jessica. Hopefully the last 2 episodes will be more entertaining but I highly doubt it. Bill can die anytime now. I am so pissed he made Sookie and Jessica drive all the way to Fangtasia, risking their lives as well as Eric and Pam's, and then pussied out of drinking Sarah newlin's blood. Thank God there were no Bill flashbacks this week! No amount of sepia tone and makeup can make Stephen Moyer appear young! And shut up Sookie!

And yet, I think what they're going for here is that Sookie has lost almost everyone and everything she's ever cared about - Tara's dead, Alcide's dead, Eric's dying, Bill's dying - and so she's rushing back to nostalgia as a coping mechanism. Dating vampires have probably created in her a false sense of security - it doesn't matter if they're together or not, Bill and Eric were here before she was born and will be there long after she's gone. This is especially true for Eric, who she no doubt views as timeless and above the realities of life. I can imagine his and Bill's illness on top of everything else would create a great existential crisis she's trying to use sex to deal with. Making her the same as about every other person on the planet.

 

The problem is this season is so badly written that we're forced to fan wank this stuff. We needed just one scene of her saying that she can't fathom a world without someone like Eric in it for us to understand her motivation wihtout having to resort to this trite "true love/first love" nonsense about Bill they keep trying to force us to accept.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Almost Home".  Of course, there was cheese, but I can deal with that.  So happy that Hoyt and Jess got together again (surely they will end up together?)

 

Regarding Bill and Sookie - I've always loved them together (I know not popular) and am happy they are back together, albeit maybe only for a short time! I hope Bill doesn't die, but it would fit in with his character.  Hopefully, Sookie can influence him to drink the antidote.

 

If Bill dies, I think Sookie might end up with Eric or even Sam.  I'm brilliant, huh?  LOL

  Tara's storyline this season has turned out to be the biggest waste of time not involving Sookie and/or Bill since the ifrit.  I believe in forgiveness too, but it should be earned and IMO Lettie Mae hasn't done that. Ever since Tara was a child, LM has made Tara pay for her many mistakes as a parent. Tara had already caught enough Hell from her abusive dad without dealing with LM's shit after he left. Tara was a child at the time; it was LM's job to protect her, not vice versa. That they would leave a loaded gun where Tara would find it and come dangerously close to using it, which would have fucked her up even more if she had, was just one example of her folks' parenting skills-or, rather, the extreme lack thereof. This could've/should've been dealt with 6 episodes ago, instead of wasting huge chunks of my time and patience. One of the things that bugged me most about this plotline was the family letting Lafayette and LM vandalize their property all day and apparently at least half the night without them even trying to do anything about it. James glamouring them at night would've been believable, but them not calling the cops or even confronting them during the daytime was bullshit. If some strangers were tearing up my yard in broad daylight without my permission, I'm going to either at least try to stop them myself or get the cops to do it for me, but I wouldn't just stand there.

 

 

Something must be wrong when the only entertaining character is Sarah Newlin.

 

  If Sarah had given Violet the True Death, then I would agree, otherwise she was even more of a pain in the ass than ever, only now she's got a God complex. Sarah's been crazy before, but now that she's a self-professed "messiah," her delusions of grandeur have gone to a whole new level. The Jesus I believe in is humble, selfless and compassionate-three words that don't apply to Sarah. Her getting away with murder, literally and figuratively, is annoying, not entertaining. By series' end, Sarah had better end up in prison, enslaved or dead, as in dead dead, not undead.

So, as we all guessed, Hoyt and Jess are moving toward some kind of re-relationship. Which is so great! Unless you've watched True Blood before and recalled how Hoyt was during the latter half of their relationship: throwing things, yelling, calling [Jess] a slut.

 

  Which probably wouldn't have happened in the first place if Jess hadn't fed on other guys behind Hoyt's back and when Hoyt figured it out, glamoured him into forgetting it, leading to their breakup and her hooking up with Jason immediately afterward, causing Hoyt's downward spiral and his involvement with an anti-supe hate group, which lead to Hoyt's asking Jess to glamour him so that he could forget the pain that she and Jason had caused him. As far as I'm concerned, Hoyt is the victim here, not the villain. Hoyt has every right to be bitter, whether he knows the truth or not. If Hoyt and Jess do get back together, then I believe she should have enough respect for him to be honest with him, whether she turns him or not, which is why she should deglamour him. Hoyt's heart has been broken way too much for him to be hurt again, especially against his will.

I didn't give a shit about Tara when she was alive, I distinctly remember doing a happy war whoop when her head got blown off the first time, and I've resented them bringing her back since she showed back up, so I'm A-OK with her no longer sucking up air time.  Good riddance.

 

The rest?  Meh.

I hate that every time I think of Tara I see that image of her digging in the yard like a dog.  I've never liked what they did to her character and wish she had been killed off with dignity a few seasons ago but what they did to her this season is really unforgivable.  And if Eric and Sookie end up together I think I might just implode.

I have finally mustered up the energy to watch this episode and fuck me . . . this is awful. Honestly, the best thing about this episode it that one of Will Yun Lee's tattooed henchmen was insanely good looking.......and that lasted all of 1 second.

 

Now, I like Rutina Wesley a lot, but Tara has never been a favorite of mine because the writers never seemed to know what the hell to do with her, like, at all. That being said, Tara was put through the ringer repeatedly on this damn show and Lettie Mae, the woman whom we've been told is responsible for the horrific childhood Tara endured, gets closure? And Tara apologizes to her, takes the blame for all the shit went on and can't "forgive" herself until her asshole mom tells her too?!?!?! Fuck you, show. Fuck you to infinity and beyond! Also, how the fuck did that gun not get discovered already? It was buried 2 inches deep.

 

Then there's Fucking Violet, whom I hate with the fire of 1,000 suns. I'm supposed to believe this vamp who's been around for fucking ever who has brought great men to their knees blahblahblah lost her damn mind because Jason Stackhouse didn't love her? The way that stupid plot ended encapsulates the thing that is pissing me off the most about this season. Alleged big bad elaborate threat is set up for a few episodes and is wrapped up abruptly only to result in a miniscule nugget of plot advancement; eg: Jessica and Hoyt are reintroduced. The only thing I enjoyed about any of that was remembering that DAW and JP had mad chemistry. Though, DAW kind of has mad chemistry with everyone. I guess they're maybe setting up Brigette and Jason, which ......fine. Of all the fucked up people on this show I think Jason and Jessica (and Lafayette) are the least fucked up, so I hope they wind up happy even if it hamfisted and dumb.

 

I still want to punch Bill and Sookie in their stupid faces. Actually, same goes for Eric and Pam and that goddamn Sarah-is-the-cure plot. Ugh.

 

God, now I have to watch the next one.
