I took what she said to mean, "If you have major life opportunities, take them, even if it means you won't be able to spend as much time with me."

I very much agree about her frumpiness , especially considering  how stylish she was as a younger Rebecca, but I wonder if she is all frumped up as a way to cover mandy Moore’s young and fit body and convince the audience that she’s 60 something.

Same here, keeping head above water and more interested in my kid moving forward than me. Oh well, now we can sit back and watch Randall become president.

Late to the party. This times 1000. Also pertains to work situations. Rebecca could say "there's something about my future treatment or heirlooms or my house that I want to discuss since we are all here. Giving a clue about the subject lessens worry. Yes, it was an important conversation,  but I would have been nervous all day waiting for it.

I'm just catching up on episodes. I think that college Randall would have known to invite Kate to visit "Beth and ME" at college rather than "Beth and I." 

Or the show could have had Kate correct him, to show that she was smart even though she wasn't in college. 

But since the writers of this episode already had Randall constantly staring at Kate's weight gain like a fool, maybe they just forgot he was supposed to be smart.

Yeah, it was so odd that he just kept staring at her! The weight she had gained wasn't so significant that he would need to act like that. Especially since the show makes it clear that he visits home quite often, and there's no way he wouldn't have seen her multiple times already.

Three thoughts:

1. "Toby -- take off the hat."   Best line of the episode, if not the series.

2. Kevin, have you never seen Animal House?

3.  I really don't like Miguel.  He exploited Rebecca's grief and her yearning to hang onto some part of her husband.   He wanted her while Jack was still alive and wormed his way into her heart after he was dead.   He plays the long-suffering partner, always holding his tongue just long enough until Kevin's or Nicky's pent-up resentment leads them to lash out, then plays the noble victim which only endears him more to Rebecca.  A shrewd strategy, but one that I think places him passively but squarely at odds with her children.   He's a weasel.
