S05.E05: Kids These Days

Recommended Posts

Quote

Katie pushes Anna-Kat and Franklin to take a risk and try an activity outside their comfort zone in order to create new content for her mommy vlog. Meanwhile, Oliver is convinced taking performance-enhancing drugs will help him ace his SATs. And after bonding with her TA over an art exhibit, Taylor begins to wonder if Trip is the right guy for her.

Original air date: 2020. December 2.

This is also the winter finale of the season.

Um...seriously, how hard is it to hide 2 pills? Put them in your sock drawer.

(Also, who didn't know Greg would accidentally take them somehow?)

No kidding. Oliver acted like Katie and Greg checked his stuff ALL THE TIME!. Well, I hope this puts to bed Greg trying to preserve anything in this town. Seriously, no one cares and can actually make counter arguments very well. Also, Katie on kids not being "tough" these days. Been there, done that. As for Taylor, I like she is now realizing there is more to the world and school than just trying to pass class or date. It's a good turn for the show to show that there is more to life. While college isn't for everyone, I like this take on Taylor.

Katie's take on dodgeball made me laugh. Spot on. Is there any activity that Franklin isn't a natural at? I know intensity is part of the character, but I wish there were more occasions for Oliver to laugh, or at least smile. Especially with Taylor's turn toward maturity. One positive result, she appreciates Trip for who he is and hasn't ditched him for who he's not. TV could do with more good role models like those two. And friends like Cooper.

When did Cooper start calling Katie and Greg "mom" and "dad?"

He started calling them that an episode or two ago.

I was wondering if they used a stuntman for that scene with all the jumps, that was very impressive but definitely not easy to do.

Next episode is on Jan 13th. So far away 😞

Greg took 4x the recommended dose. I liked the conclusion that drugs were not the way, but the leap from a normal dose of anything, for any reason, including legitimate reasons, to a quadruple dose? Bad effects are to be expected.

I like the TA, but I also like that Taylor understands and appreciates Tripp.

Right and the TA at least comes off as awkward and not looking like a stalker or creep the way Greg's did last time. I also agree, the message was pretty clear. Too much can have serious problems even when used in the right OR wrong way.

Um we play that game all the time but we call it the floor is lava. I've never heard it called sharks in the water. Is this a regional thing?

My childhood bedroom floor was water but that was mostly because the carpet was blue. 🦈🌊

Same here when I was younger, because my grandparents had blue carpeting from the time I lived with them to the age of 6.

Cooper I just love his growth and how he is a true friend to Oliver!

It cracked me up that Cooper's already planning to buy his way in to whatever school Oliver gets into. The Cooper Bradford Biblioteca, indeed. 😂

This is exactly the point Katie made when she was supportive of Greg and told him that he could bounce back from the debate fiasco.

Greg says, "Thank you"

And Katie goes on to explain it's because nobody watches the debate and nobody cares.  I love the chemistry between the actors when Greg tells her,  "Next time I say, 'Thank you', then you can just stop there."

BHAHAHAHAHA!  What a perfect Greg thing to say.

Oh, yeah, they used a stuntman for both Franklin's jumps and also when Katie flew off the trampoline (well, looked like a stuntwoman for that).

I don't know too many mothers that encourage their children do experience activities in which they can be hurt. Jumping from chairs to couches, etc. is ridiculous IMO. I'm not liking the mom on this show very much this season. She's abrasive and has no class; treats her husband poorly.

Should have been: "Parents these Days" instead of "Kids these days". Honestly, Cooper, Oliver and Taylor were reacting to things pretty normally. Though Oliver trying to hide the medicine was just plain stupid, as he acted like he had bottles of the stuff, not a couple of pills. For Greg and Katie, it proved some backwards thinking with a lot of parents these days. Katie is upset that so many kids are just "snowflakes" or need to get hurt to really learn and grow as people. Yet, Greg keeps thinking he can fight the "bullies" because you know a pinoneer gave his horse water. He doesn't add in: "If he wouldn't have stopped to help his horse, he would never have made it to point A, these soldiers wouldn't have been able to do B and that could have lead to some bad things for the revolution." Instead it's: I know no one has cared and people have just peed there, but dammit I care, why don't you!" Followed by: "Big business dumb ass!"

He's been calling Katie mom for years, but I can't remember if he did it to Greg before.

Couldn’t help but smile to think of annoying Katie’s pain there at then end when she fell on the floor. She is so obnoxious at times. The mommy vlog is stupid. At least we’re not hearing so many fat jokes like we heard in previous seasons.

The whole 2nd breakfast thing is a waste this season with no Angela and phone-it-in Doris. Although, the stereotyping of those characters was getting old.

They need to figure out what to do with these kids.
