Thank you. I was just going to post a question as to when The Equalizer was supposed to return mid-season because I just noticed it wasn't on my TV schedule file for January and CBS's announcement on November 14 of its mid-season premieres and returns didn't include it

Preview (and video clip) of this coming Sunday's episode with quotes from Lorraine Toussaint: https://www.tvinsider.com/1090044/the-equalizer-season-3-episode-15-lorraine-toussaint-preview/

The Equalizer, as it has done before, shines a light on an important social issue in the April 23 episode: domestic violence. At the center of it is Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint), trying to help her masseuse in “No Way Out,” which does also get personal for her.

Season 3 of The Equalizer has allowed viewers to learn more about Vi’s past, which is something Toussaint always wanted for her character.

“When we started this adventure three years ago, one of the things that the writers and I talked about is that Vi is a deep well,” she said. “She’s lived a big life, so the part that you get introduced to early on is really just the tip of the iceberg. As the series unfolds and evolves, you get to see that some of the qualities that our audiences like most about Vi is…by virtue of having lived.”

I couldn't find any articles about it, but it looks like The Equalizer is now airing in weekend syndication?  The NBC affiliate here is listing early season 1 episodes on both Saturdays and Sundays to fill the time after college/NFL football.  I'm kind of surprised this would happen now with only 46 episodes.

I guess there are ten episodes this season, based on the listings at Futon Critic.  There is no show on March 10 to avoid Oscars competition, and a rerun (at 10 for some reason) on March 24.  The show is also preempted on April 7 by the CMT Awards, and on April 14 because Tracker is moved up to make room for a Billy Joel concert at 9.

I was wondering why the next episode didn't show up in my recordings. So we have to waiting until April 21st until the next episode. That's such a long wait.

The next new episode is March 17, then there's probably one on March 31 (unless they have even fewer than 10 episodes or they're going to double up on one of the dates later, which I guess is possible).

March 24 is preempted because of March Madness, I would think.  First round games.

A season 5 renewal hasn't been formally announced; but Deadline thinks it's very likely:

According to sources, negotiations with Queen Latifah are currently in final stages, and the series is expected to be renewed for a fifth season contingent on her closing her deal, which I hear is expected shortly. (CBS and Uni TV have had difficult license fee negotiations but, given the popularity of the studio’s dramas on CBS, particularly FBI and The Equalizer, the two sides have found a way, which is expected to continue.)

So far, The Equalizer‘s seasons have been capped at 18 episodes, which is something some top talent request when signing on for a broadcast drama series. I hear under the new deal, the number of episodes could go up next season, possibly to 20, closer to the network’s goal of 22.

That seems really late? Sounds like it's going to be another (relatively) short season.

The 9:30 time is because there’s a football doubleheader earlier that night, which could go into overtime, so the episode could end up being shown late. The regular timeslot of 9pm ET is not considered late; 10pm certainly would have been

But starting at the end of October seems late. Don't things usually start in September?

Yeah, that's what I meant; the date is kinda late. It's going to start essentially the end of October, which is the latest (Fall) premiere date for the show so far.

The new season will premiere earlier than previously announced. It will now premiere on October 20 at the special time of 9:30pm ET/PT. It will stay at 9:30pm for the next week (due to the NFL double header), then have its time period premiere of 9pm on November 3

I don't even remember most of these S4 episodes. I'm like a goldfish. It all feels brand new to me. 😀

I wish I could forget all the episodes that had CIA plotlines or contained the phrase "Mall Cop".

So do I. I wish we could make the writers of the show forget about it too. Where's a Neuralyzer when you need one?

I know this was common in most of the country during football season with games running long, but it looks like even on the West Coast, the show is going to air at all sorts of weird times if the schedule on Futon Critic is correct.  Part of it is that 60 Minutes is set to have a number of episodes that are 90 minutes.

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/equalizer/listings/

I've noticed that myself and it's definitely a weird schedule for Fall. It could be due to the election and/or Football season with possible overruns. I think the show isn't even on in two weeks as a result and for some reason the likely Fall finale is earlier at 8:30pm ET

Hmmm... according to Deadline, CBS is considering a spin-off. It would be based around two new characters that will be introduced later this season.

Quote

Casting is underway for the roles: a skilled younger female martial artist, weapons expert and criminologist with a secret origin story who turns to McCall (Queen Latifah) for help, and an older male former top CIA operative. (It is unclear whether he and McCall know each other from their time at the agency.) Both are guest-star roles with series regular options aimed at the potential spinoff.
