Here's the latest Grantland "reality fantasy" column. Sadly, David Jacoby subcontracted the Challenge bits out so he could write more about The Bachelorette. That's a shame, really. ETA: The Challenge lands on AVClub's Tolerability Index on "Unbearable Side"; labeled "MTV's yearly beating of a dead horse." Even if you're a whole-hearted fan, you cannot argue with that. ETA2: Here's the link.

*slow clap for MarkHB* On another note . . . what is Moxie? Looks like a soda to me.

New Epic Rap Battle today. It's pretty horror-ific . . . and if you look behind the scenes, it's also pretty English-geeky as well.

I'm going to the AnimeNEXT show next week, and I'd like to check out new stuff. Here's the schedule . . . I know at minimum, I'll have to wake up extra early on Saturday to catch One Piece: Strong World, which I heard rocks hard, and who knows when/if Toonami will broadcast it. Any other suggestions on anime or panels would be appreciated.

Yeah, I gotta learn how to ignore TWoP when I type in "content" in my browser. I like p.tv, but there are shows that remain uncovered, and I think some would benefit with just a single thread, like in TWoP. Robot Chicken fits that . . . it's eleven minutes long, and the wait time between seasons can be pretty long. There was a good episode tonight . . . a pretty dark sketch with Shrek and the horror of condoms made by Cobra . . . but there isn't a forum devoted to it. Yet. I tried something similar with One Piece last month, but only one other person has visited the forum so far.

Wow. Is it me, or is Tony Abbot like Dubya to the Rob Ford-th degree? In other news, I think John deserves an award for making Net Neutrality interesting while being British. It could've been a CSPAN-style slog, but he made it work.

S25.E08: Strike A Pose, There's Something To It
Lantern7 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Challenge
Maybe because the players collide like particles? That's what I figure, flawed reasoning I might have. -
Thanks for the explanation, Hanged Man. It's easier to just consider NBC/Universal as assholes, though.

I said it on TWoP, and I need to throw this out again: why not hide an immunity idol in the tribal idol? Even with clues, I don't think it would dawn on people to not poke around in the various nooks and crannies. Just squeeze or shake the idol in a certain way, and out pops a smaller idol for personal use. Oh, and down with Redemption Island and Blood Vs. Water, though I'd suspect Probst would immediately dismiss me as a non-fan. ETA: I like the idea of tribal-exclusive idols, especially in a "One World" setting. Just because one of those got into Colton's grubby mitts doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

I got this: This Community is Unavailable This community is offline and no longer accessible. So that's that. Fuck NBC Universal for forcing all of us out, albeit to slightly identical premises.

Okay . . . so far, so weird. Just wish they could've done this in the actual morning, as opposed to the middle of the damn night. Dunno what to think of "The Save." Also don't know what to think about Survivor people in the game. But since I'm glass-half-full on this show, I'm sure things will work out.
-
So . . . it turns out I have/had 25,963 active posts on TWoP, presumably since January 2001. Was I dedicated, or did I need a life? How is everybody? I'm wussing out of going to the TAR start-up tonight. Why did they have to do it at 3 in the damn morning? If there was daylight, I would've went. I want to go, but it would be a pain in the ass to get there and back.

I heard Kill La Kill is getting a dub. How good of an anime is that? I hate to say it, but my anime interests don't go beyond Toonami and Pokemon. What else should I look into? On CN, I watch Adventure Time and Teen Titans Go. Oh, and Robot Chicken, though the returns haven't been as great as in the past.
-
I don't think I'll be able to make it tonight, so I'm hoping some folks reading this will go and report back. If we're getting returning teams, or if there's a new gimmick at work, we need to know about it right away.
-
There hasn't been any more information posted, has there? I'm still unsure whether it takes place tonight or tomorrow night. And Times Square is a big place, so zeroing it down to a specific locale would be nice.

LakeGal . . . at least that guy wasn't Papa CJ. That guy was a straight-up hack. I was hoping he'd die on stage so he'd be reincarnated as a better comic. I never got around to seeing last week's episode on DVR, and I'm on the fence on whether I'd be interested since I'm watching The Challenge (not proud about it, just sayin'). I kinda liked what I saw, though I do miss judges tearing up a time-wasting asshole. Then again, inviting people onto the show would make it better. Now if only I can get used to Roseanne's cackling.

S25.E08: Strike A Pose, There's Something To It
Lantern7 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Challenge
I'm guessing nobody wanted Preston as a teammate . . . which sucks, since he was more or less made for the 3D Twister that the producers came up with. Well, he was more made for it than CT, who was hanging on for dear life. Even with Cohutta winning, it was still a bit of a down night, because I find Laurel to be insufferable. I would be scared around her. I'm convinced she eats people and swallows their souls. Also, Aneesa needs a life . . . she's 0-for-10 in Challenges. Even Tonya wound up winning one in her "career." ETA: Fuck Johnny and fuck his banana costume. He probably has three of those made. Have I mentioned how much I hate him? -
ANW, Sasuke & Other International Versions
Lantern7 replied to David T. Cole's topic in American Ninja Warrior
Anybody else miss Sasuke? I remember the olden days (just seven years ago), where you randomly catch Ninja Warrior on G4 and get enthralled. As good as the Americans get on ANW, it doesn't match the Japanese equivalent. And I don't think anyone can reach the badass levels set by Makoto Nagano. Sure, he wiped out in the early stages near the end of NW, but he was awesome to watch in his prime. -
I was just about to post that. Is anybody else up for a field trip? I'm thinking about it, but it's rather late, and I'd like to see some fellow fans from p.tv. I don't want to be all by my lonesome that late at night.

I think Jordan isn't that bad. You just have to put him against a huge piece of crap, like Nia in his RW tour of duty. Also, Johnny was flexing his muscles after his win, and he would've fellated himself if he could.
-
That reminds me . . . according to Gabriel Iglesias in his stand-up, he's the second-most popular comic in Saudi Arabia. The first? Jeff Duhham. He found that out where he was on tour there, and his chauffeur wasn't put off by Achmed the Dead Terrorist. The guy punctuated that with "I KEEL YOU!!!" I just thought that was funny, even if that fact is a little depressing. And I think the routine is in Gabe's "Aloha, Fluffy" Comedy Central special, if you need it confirmed.

Thank you, Shadow Wave. It's like he suffers from a disease where he's unable to see his own reflection. He talks an epic amount of shit, and he doesn't realize what a dick he is. Worse, everybody around him seems to enable him . . . from his friends to the people that cast him each time. That's why I wanted Jordan to beat him . . . so he can get thrown off the bus and become the non-entity he was destined to be.
-
Okay, see, I thought that was Kitty. Doesn't explain why her name was that high in the credits. I'm also guessing that the destruction of RFK Stadium was the reason why the Senators left Washington to greener pastures in Arlington, at least in that universe.
-
I just want Johnny to suffer a little. If Jordan had another game to play, I'm certain he would've beaten Johnny. As much as I hate to use a nom de famewhore, I want somebody to squash the Banana. Is that so wrong? The elimination round between Johnny and Jordan does rank among the worst in the show's history . . . which, in my head, are Jodi/Veronica in Inferno II (where Jodi lost, the Bad Asses crapped on her, and Klepronica leaped into Rachel's brawny arms) and Abram/Timmy in Inferno III (where Timmy initially won, got DQ'ed, then announced his retirement due to his injuries). Seeing Johnny flex his muscles and suck his own dick was nauseating to watch.

Nice movie. They should've subtitled it "The Search For The Shiny Reset Button." Can't believe everything went back to normal (or as close to X2) in the end. I'm a bit confused how to tie the movie in with The Wolverine, but it was a fun waste of a few hours. And the after-credits scene leads into The Next Big Thing, much like the DisneyMarvelverse. Call me a sucker, but I'm there. I saw Anna Paquin's name in the credits, but I didn't see Ms. Sookie anywhere. And come to think of it, where was the Stan Lee cameo? and since when can Kitty Pryde project a consciousness into the past? I get that she was the one to make the journey in the Claremont/Byrne story, but I can't write it off as a secondary mutation.
