  1. This week: Rick rediscovers his youth in a younger clone of himself. Beth and Jerry go to another planet for marriage counseling. The latter winds up producing more bloodshed, even though the former involves killing a vampire called Coach Feratu. Say it out loud . . . it's as dumb as the vampire lord in the stinger realizes.
  2. I checked the list of Creative Arts Emmys. TAR got shut out twice at the hands of The Deadliest Catch. Here's hoping they manage to get the big award next week.

I went out and missed most of the end of the Mets/Braves game. I wound up leaving the station on SNY before I left home, so I was able to rewind to see the Mets' ninth inning comeback. Down by three, down to their last out, down to their last strike, and they rallied back thanks to an error, walk, and three-run homer from Daniel Murphy. One inning and three runs later, they win, driving their magic number to 11.
  4. It's an exposition episode, as Coby and Luffy have a talk (and Nami listens in via transponder snail). We also have a massive party, which is an One Piece tradition, and Aokiji has words with Robin. Next week, two of the world's heaviest hitters will meet up. After that: three weeks of Water7 filler. It is good filler, though.
  5. Because it was liked . . . here's Hatchin smacking Blond Afro Urkel.

It's official.. . the Mets have had their best season in years. They cracked 81 wins for the first time since 2008, doing better than Grantland and Sports Illustrated had predicted.. Their magic number to clinch is down to 12. And right now, they're in a virtual tie for the second seed with the Dodgers. You gotta believe! ETA: Got inspired to spelunk through ESPN's stats. Turns out the Mets won the season series against the Dodgers, 4-3.
  7. I think there's a SP marathon going on now on Comedy Central. There will also be one on Wednesday, leading to the season premiere.
  8. Verdict: I'll stick with the show until Trevor Noah starts on The Daily Show. I am a rat, conditioned to watch Comedy Central's nighttime schedule. I'd also be open to going to a taping, though I'm not sure when would be a good time. I can't remember the last time I saw Letterman live, and I barely recall seeing Stephen up close. I'm betting he doesn't apologize in advance like he did on TCR.

Group question: What's the closest you've gotten to see a no-hitter? I forget the season, but I remember Dwight Gooden pitching one of those for seven innings. Then he homered in the bottom of the inning. Bad move . . . he was so jacked up about it, he lost the no-no in the eighth.
  10. Carl lives! He likes the Colts this week, so I would look into putting money on the Bills. If I were a betting man, I mean. ETA: I remembered to look after seeing it on Sportscenter just now. For real. ETA2: Just found AS's plans for New York Comic Con. I might wind up missing the Robot Chicken panel if it's going to be the same panel format as last year. ETA3: First of all, apologies for the constant ETAs. Secondly: did anybody watch Black Jesus? The second season kicks off on Friday. I still have the latter half of the first season on DVR, and I haven't gotten around to watching/deleting it.

I finally wrote my essay on being a Mets fan. I left out a lot of stuff, but it generally sums up my feelings in the here and now. Hopefully, I haven't jinxed them. Feel free to leave me feedback. Question for any Braves fans out there . . . has attendance been dropping lately? I know that the team isn't at its best, but it looks dire at Turner Field. And as a Mets fan that hated John Rocker and Larry "Chipper" Jones back in the day, I have to say that it makes me smile. Sorry.
  12. Great way to end the show. I would've wanted Obama & Luther one last time, but stuff like "Negrotown"? I can live with that. Here's hoping the duo can find success, either on their own or with each other.
  13. I think Anthony is less fratty than Tosh, and he goes darker as well. On topic: LCS9 . . . one of the worst seasons in the show's history,or the worst? Aside from Clayton English winning, I don't think we'll get any real success stories. I don't think any of the hundred comedians that went up will catch fire like Gabriel Iglesias or Amy Schumer.
  14. Norm MacDonald didn't keel over from drug use. And Maria Bamford didn't sneak behind Andy and whack her with a steel chair. Minor victories, yes? I think this might have been the worst LCS season . . . and that's saying something. Sure, Clayton was a likeable winner, but we didn't get to journey with him throughout the season, as we did with, say, John Hefferon. Or Josh Blue. While American Ninja Warrior is taken to task for going with the personal stories too often, we wind up identifying with them as a result. With Clayton, all we got were four sets. Anybody else surprised that the comics could ID Rod Man right away? I'm thinking the comics were given a "heads up" about him before he entered the room. [insert joke about Dat Phan working at a Burger King here] I know it's late, but my cable was screwing with me big-time tonight. If you're reading this and you want to catch Anthony Jeselink's act, his "Caligula" special runs on Comedy Central at 3:41 a.m. tonight. He can go very dark very fast, so be warned. Maybe he could get another show after The Jeselink Offensive didn't last past two seasons. ETA: Rod Man is working on a deal with NBC, while Iliza Shlesinger (LCS6) is set to host a show on TBS.

Just checked the Staten Island Yankees' site. They made the New York-Penn League playoffs and managed to beat Tri-City at home in 11 innings last night. I used to see the Baby Bombers more often. One year, I saw them win the NY-PL championship. I think they had Robinson Cano and Chien-Ming Wang that year, but I'm not 100 percent sure. I also went to a rally for the team a few days later. Ever see schoolkids sing "We Are The Champions"? So cute. ETA: Between the rain delay, the power cutting out, and the cable (and Internet) taking forever to reboot, I missed most of the Mets' win over Atlanta. I did manage to see Bartolo Colon drive in a run with a base hit up the middle. That was funny. Anybody else hoping for a Mets/Blue Jays series, just for a prospective Colon/Dickey duel?
  16. I read the latest Twelve comic. Didn't do much for me. I think the real winner was the gag cartoon page, where I found that funny . . . And there's a "To Be Continued" caption, which means we might get more of that next issue. Also, I picked up the latest Ten TPB from the library. Haven't read it yet, but I will.

When I was ten years old, I watched Game 6 of the World Series. I turned the game off to lament when the Red Sox went up by two in the tenth inning. As a result, I missed the comeback and the Bob Stanley wild pitch, and I wound up seeing Mookie Wilson's grounder go under Bill Buckner's legs. I still hate myself for that, even though I was young and naïve. If I knew about the "curse" the Red Sox was under, maybe I would've stayed. The Red Sox were destined to win in 2004. Take the last two digits of the last team to win the World Series (18). Now add that to the last pennant they would win (86). Take out the "1" of the result, and you're left with "04." Spooky, right?
  18. Anybody else see Elon Musk's coil and think of Dr. Octopus? I'm surprised Stephen didn't make that connection.

Article from Grantland about how the NL East is the worst division in MLB. Apparently, not even the Mets have a winning record outside the division. I'm going into a potential NLDS with trepidation, and that doesn't make me feel more optimistic.

I was at a pub tonight. I left when the Mets were down 2-1 in the middle of the sixth inning. I get home . . . turns out they came from behind to sweep the Nationals. The Mets are now seven games up on the Nats, and they get to go to Atlanta to batter the Braves for four games. Holy cow.
  21. Aw . . . Stephen has a picture of Jon in his locker. Makes up for not having Jon in the audience, asking where the singing cats are. What? Some jokes are worth telling again, even if they're two decades apart. Right now, I'm going to DVR The Nightly Show, and I'll do the same for @Midnight when it returns to its slot. I'll give Stephen a shot, though it's been ages since I strayed from Comedy Central's lineup. So far, I'm thinking it's The Colbert Report with a bigger budget, a house band, and less of an emphasis on politics. It should work out. I'll be pulling for Stephen . . . I think his Ben & Jerry's ice cream is better than Jimmy Fallon's efforts. ETA: I liked the Sabra bit. Felt very TCR to me.
  22. I found out Probst's predictions through RealityBlurred. Anybody else hoping one of those five women wins the whole thing, just to make him look like a bigger jackass? I don't think I'd be in Kimmi's corner under any other circumstance.

So. I go to a volunteer thing. The people there switch between the Mets and Yankees game. When I leave, the Nationals are up 3-1. By the time I get home and I listen to the local news station . . . Nationals up, 7-1. I had dinner, I go to my bedroom to go online and watch the end of the game . . . the gap has been narrowed to 7-6. Then the Mets tie the game. And then freaking Kirk Nieuwenhuis homers, and the Mets wind up winning, 8-7. I think that if the Mets need to work during the offseason, they would make great faith healers. If Yoenis Céspedes can redeem himself after a three-run error, I'm certain he can cure anybody with his bare hands. Oh, and the bullpen doesn't give up a run, putting out the fires Matt Harvey left. Magic number down to 19. Can I get a witness?!?

When I locked up a ticket for the final game of the series, I saw that the Mets were throwing out a "2016 magnetic schedule." I figured something was weird about that, since we're not done with 2015 yet. Turns out that not only has the schedule been produced way ahead of . . . time . . . the Mets will kick off their season against the Royals in Kansas City. I'm going out for a bit, so I'm not going to see tonight's game ("Mad Matt Beyond Thunderdome") until I get home late. Here's hoping the Mets can go six up on the Nationals. Also, I managed to scrawl out 5 1/2 pages about being a Mets fan. I'll post a link when I put it on my blog.
  25. Wow . . . it's been a while since I've been on this thread. Hope y'all didn't miss me too much. I'm coming off a "write-in" at the library. Wound up writing 5.5 pages about being a Mets fan. I intend to post it online in the next few days, thought I should mention owning a black belt in procrastination.
