JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
1. That puzzles me, because the opening credits make it look like Team Jojo would be traveling the world, not just Egypt. It's a chill song, but I don't know how relevant it is with this anime. I just imagine Avdol thinking, "I have lived in Egypt for most of my life. I have never seen ANYBODY walk like that. Fuck the Bangles. And fuck Steve Martin while I'm at it." 2. In Kakyoin's defense, Jotaro did save his life and remove him from under Dio's well-manicured thumb. Granted, the nurse back in school was probably more qualified to operate that Jotaro, but Kakyoin used Heirophant Green on her, so it's his own damn fault, mind-controlled or not. 3. I'm assuming Dio has lots and lots of minions . . . as opposed to "Phantom Blood," where he mostly had the two ancient warriors and the Asian manservant. He probably has a crowd like the ones that cheered for the Pillar Men in the final arc last season. -
At least Goku remembered King Kai. I mean, it came about a minute too late, but it's progress, right? I think I saw most/all of the original series, as well as DBZ. Where the HFIL did Tights come from? You'd think that Vegeta would know that he has an in-law. Or Trunks having an aunt. Or Goku, because he's known Bulma longer than anybody. If Beerus' mystery fighter takes the top slot, and Goku and Vegeta occupy the next two, who would fill the roster? Gohan is probably still trying to power up. Piccolo is probably tired of all the bullshit and he's training Gohan. Krillin might be the strongest full-blooded human alive, but he's always going to be the weak link. I'm not reading ahead, so I might be surprised. ETA while I'm here: What is Tien's deal? I mean . . . why does he have a third eye? And why doesn't it seem to move like the other two?

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion

Seeing Holly slumped over like that . . . my mind went to a bad, bad place. Luckily, neither Dio or one of his minions didn't drop by Casa Kujo to murder her. It's just her Stand manifesting, and it's killing her. Partially because of Dio, partially because she's a woman in a shonen manga. Yeah, we had Lisa Lisa kick a little ass, but we need guys to find and murder Dio. And did you see the choreography of the four guys' legs stepping out? That's insane chemistry right there! I feel bad for Joseph/Oldjo. He took care of the Pillar Men a half-century ago. And what is his specialty nowadays? "Spirit Photography." That is sad. Worse, not only does Dio seem to have that same mojo, he doesn't break Polaroids to make it happen. At least Jotaro could have a career as a surgeon if he lives. Star Platinum took care of the slug with little problem. Who needs surgeons? Anybody else amused that the Speedwagon Foundation is still functioning in the mid-Eighties? Nice to have a group dedicated to the weird shit, but the man was a bit of a putz. I still liked him, though. -
I rewatched last week's episode. It's more clear to me when I can pause and read the translations. Basically, Greed Island comes off as a combination of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sword Art Online. My fear is that the arc will drag on, even with the possible inclusion of the Phantom Troupe . . . though I'm not sure if their copy of the game allows them to enter into the one where the action is happening. My thought upon seeing this on the Toonami Tumblr: "Man, what do those two have against Slime Princess?!?"

This popped up on my Facebook. And now I feel old.

Funny115: The Beauty tribe tries to figure out how chickens make eggs. For extra fun, Mario imagines Yau Man watching at home, getting more and more despondent.

I'm thinking of breaking down and paying for OKC. I mean, if women like my profile, I should know abut it, right? I'm thinking six months, because going per-month would be expensive, and the only way that works is if I get into a solid relationship within the first month. You know what I'd need to make that happen right now? A genie.

Something cute from The Onion.

Personal Encounters With Doctor Who: "It's Bigger On The Inside!"
Lantern7 replied to Lantern7's topic in Doctor Who
Trying to remember stuff as I go through my Flickr album . . . Before Long Island Who, there was Who York, where old-school folks would pop up. Off the top of my head, I saw Louise Jameson. Frazer Hines, Ian McNeice (pictures lumped in with massive cosplay display at NYCC), Waris Hussein and Sylvester McCoy. I met Colin Baker in San Diego and Peter Davison at NYCC. I got lucky with Davison . . . I noticed there was little activity on his line. I'm chalking that up to right place/right time. Like I said, I've only been to the one Doctor Who-centered convention. I met Paul McGann, as well as Wendy Padbury, Janet Fielding and Carole Ann Ford. Oh,and I got hugged twice by Katy Mainning. She is a fan of the hug and kiss. Oh, and I've met Daphne Ashcroft on a few occasions. She would pop in on the Doctor Who New York meetups, as would Tony Lee, the writer of IDW's Doctor Who series. And I interviewed Paul Cornell about his Third Doctor miniseries last year, along with artist Christopher Jones. If you're going to a DW con, this is the place to post about it. Currently, I am not planning on attending Long Island Who in November. It's small compared to the bigger shows in the States and the UK, but it's still stacked with past and present favorites. PS: Do kids of Doctors count? I met Sean Pertwee last year at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest. ETA: I attend a panel on Doctor Who at Comic-Con International in 2009, covering the swan songs of Russell T. Davies and David Tennant. Had to get there extra, extra early to get into Ballroom 20, so I'm counting that. Months later, I saw a promotion of the fifth season/series, headlined by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Stephen Moffat. -
Sorry for the lateness . . . Smithsonian Channel had an hour-long special with Phil Keoghan. I saw the first two segments . . . nice stuff with Phil touring New Zealand and meeting its interesting people. Also, he pulls off the eyebrow pop. Flying High with Phil Keoghan will air tonight at 1 a.m., tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 11 a.m., and Sunday at 5 p.m.

This thread is for discussing real-life encounters with Doctors and other people associated with the show. DW conventions has been a thing since, like, forever, and every "Classic" Doctor from Patrick Trougton to Paul McGann has done that circuit at one point or another. In fact, Troughton passed away at a show in Columbus, GA. I know, morbid to mention, but it shows a degree of dedication. As far as Doctor Who-centric shows, I've only been to one: Long Island Who in 2015. I live on Staten Island, so I stayed at a nearby hotel, as opposed to commuting back and forth. I had a good time. Not nearly as fun as the big cons I visit, but it was an experience. Ever see a Missy cosplayer get down to "Mickey"? It's an experience. I have to bail, but in case you didn't see my post on the Media thread: Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie will be appearing at New York Comic Con in October. They'll only be there on Thursday and Friday, and I don't know if I could afford to splurge for a pic and an autograph. Later, I'll talk about the various people I've met from the show. As it stands, I have met every classic Doctor save for Tom Baker.

Looper goes over the worst movies of 2017 thus far, and they start with The Bye-Bye Man. Probably easier to warch than The Emoji Movie, but I still feel a little bad for J-Penn.

Vol. 2 gets the How It Should Have Ended treatment.

In other news, the Mets traveled south to Philadelphia and pounded on the Phillies. Of course, something bad happened . . . Jacob deGrom caught a line drive in the arm. I'm thinking that Terry did not want to take any chances. Also, that was his hundredth pitch. Great timing!

@starri: how do you figure? I think Adam West did his thing before he passed away. If DC/WB does a third movie, then they would be on shaky ground. Or do you mean the Evil Extractor? Bear in mind, nobody would have questioned it in 1966. And hey, we get Hugo Strange and what sounds like Dr. Harleen Quinzel.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion

1. That's Heirophant Green. It's a tarot thing, at least for the first set of Stands we see. 2. Will this do? -
Of course "Bruuuce" would be cited as a favorite. #OnlyTheMets

Here's a trailer for the follow-up movie.

1. Jenna didn't make it to the end of Invasion. 2. She's probably been sent to Redemption House, so I'm not putting her out just yet.

Review of the Diamond Is Unbreakable movie from Otaku USA. Needless to say, the writer is not impressed. Warning: there are a few spoilers related to "Stardust Crusaders." One hope: if DiU got chosen because of the Japanese setting, what could stop a production company outside of Asia from adaption "Phantom Blood" and "Battle Tendency"? Just a thought. -
Don't know where else to put this . . . Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie will be coming to New York Comic Con in October. They're only showing up on Thursday and Friday. Now I gotta save a little more money because I have yet to meet a "modern" Doctor. Also, I'd like to see if Pearl still has that nice hair.

Once again, I like the canon Ross better . . . back in Priest's run on Black Panther where Ross was basically King Of The Useless White Boys. And he'd get into weird stuff, like President Clinton chasing him with a hockey stick. Or the time Thor got shot in the head by a sniper and landed on Ross. Good times. Besides, we already had a bureaucrat-type in the MCU in Couslon.

Season Two Talk: FFwSB
Lantern7 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Full Frontal With Samantha Bee
I'm impress with Sam. I don't think any of the other satire shows goes to "problem areas" of the world, let alone shine a spotlight on people that are seen as weak that can take care of themselves. And they teach men not to be pricks!! I'm guessing Sam went to that area in one trip. Does anybody know if we'd get a few more segments like that in future episodes? -
Nice writeup on the show from the Village Voice. I don't really think it's reached legendary status just yet, but it's still fun in a messed-up way.

I'm still messaging, though with little luck. I'm talking with one lady, but she doesn't say much in her messages, at least at much as I do. Bear in mind, I can be very chatty online because women don't have to hear my nasal voice. I hate when I'm on the phone with somebody and they think I'm a woman because of that. @aradia22 . . . dunno how our paths haven't crossed. I'm not a tea person, but I'd basically say, "Never really got into that; I'd give it a try." I want to show prospective dates that I'm up for breaking out of my box.
