From Reality Blurred: two-time Racer slated to appear on next Survivor. I know that I can be a hothead about that series and TAR, and I probably need perspective. That said, would I be justified in thinking this bit of casting would be seen as appeasement for potentially flooding TAR31 with alumni from CBS’ other series? Or am I seeing too much evil in the network? ETA: Apologies if that was too off-topic. I tend to think the worse too often.

I like sweet potato fries. ? Good to hear Wyatt got a second season. He’s living up to the standards set up by Jon Stewart’s other disciples. The asides help, but he’s good at deep-diving as well.

Andy from Reality Blurred makes suggestions. They won’t be heeded, but reading it is worthwhile.

Before I forget to ask: "You're welcome, Canada." I don't get that.

Well, the impossible happened. No, not that the Knights prevailed. One captain -- who wasn't Yami -- saw Asta in action, and was not immediately horrified that a common boy . . . . WITH NO FUCKING MAGICAL ABILITY . . . was picked as a Magic Knight. He was also impressed that Yami saw talent in him, while the other captains took a pass. He did tell Asta to calm down a few times, which . . . . don't we all want that? Down side: the king of the Clover Kingdom is a prick. I'm hoping his ignorance is a front, but I'm really not expecting that from this anime.

Heh. "Foreshadowing Lagoon."

Just wondering if anybody else picked up the Vindicators story.

Meagan Martin throws first pitch in Denver before a Rockies game. As you can see, she probably saw Akbar's effort and did not want to do that. Not the best pitch, but at least she got a little distance on that.

@sarthaz: short story? Team Flash wins, Devoe is depatched dispatched, Marlize helps the team and goes off to help others (with no repressusions from helping her husband), Ralph comes back, and Mystery Girl helps Barry at the climax, then reveals herself as Nora, the daughter of Barry and Iris. And, apparently, she has fucked up royally. She is Barry's kid! Oh, and Capt. Singh pops up for a bit, and he probably still unaware about Barry's second job. That's about the gist of it. Hey, compared to what we had on Arrow last week, I say we got something good here. I liked the idea of Thinker, but it just got so tiresome watching him effortlessly kill the "bus metas" and gain their powers. Like I said last week, he was basically Thanos . . . an incalculable threat that just got more and more powerful as time went on. And part of me kinda understood being against excessive use of technology. Seriously, how many times have you been in a rush, and some asshole is in front of you, mesmerized by a device? But Devoe's ego made him unlikable, and framing Barry for murder was icing on that cake. Hey, the show overturned a conviction before Arrow, and that has to earn 'em something. Bottom line: finale wasn't the dumpster fire that was Arrow, but it couldn't beat Voltron Beebo. So it looks like the Killer Frost plot gets put on the back burner (pun intended) until next season. I'm good with that. Still wondering how Cecile was able to read minds, or if she still has that ability. At least she and Joe lived, though their journey this season was a big pile of "why?!?" for me. I'm good with Ralph. I don't care. Just hoping he doesn't need Barry to pick him up every other week.

S05.E12: Drug rehabilitation clinics
Lantern7 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Last Week Tonight
I didn’t mean to sound superior. The situation is parallel to teaching abstinence. . . sure, it’s basically dividing by zero, but hormones and urges never factor into mathematics. There should be ways to recover without losing something altogether new. Also, am I a bad person to want John to tell people that opioids are NOT “anal discomfort for Ron Howard”? -
@chaifan . . . like I’ve been saying. I think this might be a worse situation than outright cancellation. Worse, I’m guessing Worldrace can’t shop the series around if they get too sick of CBS. That stinks, especially with all the network shuffling going on nowadays.

Here in New York, the episode was preempted by a Yankees game. I looked up Wednesday . . . preempted by a Mets game. I know it’ll be on demand by tomorrow, but I kinda hate not zooming through commercials.

Any word on lineup shuffling? I think the second Ghost In The Shell anime finished on Saturday, but I'd expect CN/[as]/Toonami would rerun the first season. Same thing happened with Cowboy Bebop. Closer to midnight, Dragon Ball Z Kai is running out of episodes, and I don't think Dragon Ball GT would get the abridged treatment. Nobody want to go on the "Grand Tour, Grand Tour." Also, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is entering the home stretch, and I don't think the fourth version -- "Diamond Is Unbreakable" -- has been dubbed. ERA: Ghost in the Shell gets replaced by Lupin the 3rd Part IV starting June 2. Not too bad in my eyes. I can get not being into the anime or the dub, but I was good with it.

Supergirl sketch was so wrong. I think it has to do with Melissa Benoist's portrayal, where you don't want to imagine her using a vibrator. Of course, since this is Robot Chicken, she gets tricked into using a Kryptonite marital aid, and that kills us her. End sketch . . . is "Date My Mom" a thing? Was a thing? Maybe on MTV? Of course the hornball would pick Jessica Rabbit's girl, and of course that daughter looked beyond fucked up. Crap, I can't think of much else. BTW, did Archie and Ms. Grundy get frisky on Riverdale? And did she get the Aunt May treatment, going from crone to Sally Field to Marisa Tomei? Still a bit squicky thought. ETA: Dexter applying for college!! I thought the voices were pretty accurate, though Dex looked more early Stewie Griffith here. And of course Dee Dee would be swimming in extracurricular stuff.

How about four from each franchise? Fuck it, bring back the Cowboys, Globetrotters and Margie & Luke. At least have Racers on TAR.

S05.E12: Drug rehabilitation clinics
Lantern7 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Last Week Tonight
Okay . . . the best way to kick addiction is to not get addicted in the first place. Otherwise, you’re prey to every Tom/Dick/Harry that calls itself a rehab center. And that one guy was such a dick. I kind of wanted the interviewer to fling him off the balcony. -
@ProfCrash . . . in my head BB fans would also be into car crashes posing as human interaction. TAR might be flawed, but it isn’t a shit show. Seriously, if the speculation is true, and the show opts for a public start, I think TAR fans should go out and protest there. ETA: My concern is a total loss for TAR. BB fans don’t get to see the action live, and the contestants are less volatile with their universe not crammed into one space. Thus, the fans bolt. Diehard TAR fans decide not to watch at all, and I feel they make up a chunk of the core audience. The ratings tank, and TAR is cut loose. In my mind, I feel that is a lot crueler than outright cancellation. Granted, my mind tends to go too far in thought processes, but I’m still getting that vibe.

That was fun. I don't think it is as shocking as the original, at least to the "average" moviegoer. For instance: Terry Crews goes out to promote the movie . . . and his character is killed almost immediately. It wasn't a "black guy bites it first" thing, since Vanessa was killed. Also, all of X-Force save for Wade and Domino wound up dead. Then again, when Peter Milligan took over the book, and turned it into a reality show satire with Mike Allred drawing, I think he killed off most of the team. And I think one of those guys was named Zeitgeist. So it might've been a nod to the hardcore fanbase. Brad Pitt playing Vanisher for a split second? That was a surprise. Even with the angst over Vanessa's death and the safety of Russell/Firefist (nobody tell One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda), things were fun. I don't think there was as much pressure to reach the original like with the Avengers and Age of Ultron. One of the high points was Cable. Forget al the shit with Madelyne Pryor, the techno-organic virus, the Askani'son, Stryfe, and all the rest. Did Josh Brolin kill it as Cable? He did. The bad news is that he might be stuck in that role for a while. Well, as least he doesn't have to look like his chin is a scrotum. There's more, but I'll stop here. I'm happy Vanessa's death was undone, and that that Wade got his encounter with Logan. i think think Green Lantern was a misfire, as opposed to a full-on garbage fire, so it's a little painful that it's basically a punchline. Deadpool blowing Ryan Reynolds' head after reading the script? Funny. ETA: Yay, Joe Kelly got into the credits! Also, leading into the release, Gail Simone was pumped with Wade riding a motor scooter, like in one of her stories.

We're getting FLCL: Progressive in two weeks. The sneak preview on April Fool's Day was for the first episode of Alternative. Anyway, this came up tonight to whet your appetite: Also, in case you haven't been watching FLCL, here are the behind-the-scenes clips:

Hey, maybe he'll get shot in the head in the first episode. Or maybe an off-screen archer would bury three arrows in him, and he'd be dead before falling off the roof and onto trash cans. So cheer up!!! Also weird to look at my content feed and get a little upset at people roasting Bamford. Then I realize you guys probably don't mean Maria Bamford, and then I calm down.

The part where Mr. Satan gets the people of Earth to give energy to Goku . . . years ago, I saw this AMV at an anime con, set to "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz. The crowd laughed at the part with Mr. Satan at 2:29. Still an endearing video. ETA: DBZK is coming to an end soon, right?

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - General Discussion
Lantern7 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
For anybody reading this: Toonami is running the original finale of FLCL, so everything afterward gets bumped back fifteen minutes, including JBA. Also, there’s an FLCL marathon next week, so no “new” episode. ETA: In most stories, one of the Crusaders earns status as the best guy. Last time, it was Jotaro mindfucking D'arby. Before that, it was Polnareff thinking fast even after Alessi shrunk him down to a three-year-old. With "Hol Horse & Mondatta," the Crusaders are clueless about the whole stories. And it was all Hol Horse's fault. I don't blame him for giving himself to Boingo's Mondatta's book. But he . . . Forgot his Stand was invisible to most naked eyes. Not realizing his watch was fast and that there was a big clock nearby. Completely forgetting that Emperor fires magic bullets that always find its target. Unless something gets in the way. Like Hol Horse's head, for instance. Anyway, Whole Horse's Ass goes to the hospital, and Mondatta decides to do good things with his life. Before that, he kicks a box in the air to symbolize his casting off weakness. But it lands on Iggy's head. And Iggy does not take it well at all. He doesn't even break out Fool. Just keeps biting the little bastard and sending him to the hospital. And the Crusaders officially lose another God Stand user. But you have to admit, it was pretty hysterical, as fate kept smacking people around. And Polnareff -- held at Emperor-point -- trying to signal the others of Hol Horse through his tongue. That was funny. I've been poking around on a Jojo Wikia. Toth's illustration of Hol Horse's bullets looking human reminded me of Sex Pistols, a Stand used in Vento Aureo (the fifth volume of the series). -
@mikewho . . . A Weaver family reunion is a better alternative than a mostly BB season. Seriously, why would CBS want to attract BB fans to TAR? Does the network think that little of TAR? Are the numbers that low to them? Seriously, these are two different series with vastly different approaches, and I don’t think the rumored format would make TAR that much more attractive. I don’t think the overlap is that vital, and I can’t see it getting bigger. Seriously, aren’t most BB fans into live feeds and finding out stuff as it happens? I'm going to stop here, because I don’t want to be the asshole to insult BB fans. Also, as someone who still watches The Challenge, I don’t think I should be too harsh a judge. ETA: Also a little off-putting: we've only had two Racers on the other CBS series, while the network dumps bodies into the series. I don’t think I’d get into Big Brother if a decent Racer got cast. Then again, I did watch DWTS just for Amy Purdy.
