  1. This is the only thing keeping me from being totally bummed by how dire Michael's situation seems to be at the end. There had to be a reason the writers had Janet get left behind when the others escaped post-Molotov cocktail, especially since she was originally on the side the others escaped to when Shawn appeared, then when they turned around to run away, she ran left, all the way across to the other side away from the exit (while the others were running to the right, toward it) just before Jason threw it. It doesn't make much sense, unless her remaining serves a purpose. Why yes, I have watched the episode 5 times now.
  2. The version posted on NBC's website the next day is usually an extended cut that's a minute or so longer than the aired version.
  3. Ryan Pinkston. Episodes like this were why I was dreading the show starting up again--the need to undo the happy endings the characters were originally given. That was depressing as hell.
  4. I happened to have been eating Hawaiian pizza while watching the episode, so I had to laugh at that. The pizza was great. Things I'd never admit to anyone in real life: I actually burst into tears when Michael shoved her into the portal and she was screaming no with her arms outstretched before disappearing. Admittedly, it's been a rough week, but I may be overly invested in this show.
  5. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: Fact-checking Episode One, ‘The Man Who Would Be Vogue’ The Truth About Gianni Versace and Andrew Cunanan’s Relationship
  6. Jacksonville Jaguars won again! ‘The Good Place’ producer Joe Mande on how Jacksonville Jaguars fandom became part of the show
  7. Interesting enough, when I tried to find a link to the above article that wasn't behind a paywall, the main people sharing it were such luminaries as Tony Perkins and websites with fake addresses (or ones that clearly show them as fake news). I can't imagine why those people (or a conservative shill like Peggy Noonan) would want to discredit a movie promoting good journalism and standing up to the government. Here's one more objective article: Interview with the screenwriters discussing their choices:

  9. A documentary about Natalie Wood. The story of the rape starts around 19:00. Though a name isn't given, check out the brief shot at 19:27 that "says" exactly what they can't legally say.
  10. I was wondering why they chose Dakota Johnson to introduce Call Me By Your Name. I'd forgotten she was in the director's previous film (with Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes).
  11. Apparently it happened when she was 15. She told a lot of friends about it, though obviously he was never charged. I just tried to do a Google search for it...and the first thing that came up was Twitter, where everyone is talking about it, so I guess I'm not the only one who heard about it: https://twitter.com/search?q=natalie+wood+kirk+douglas&ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^search
  12. Okay, I'll say it. I thought it was common knowledge that Kirk Douglas raped Natalie Wood. Honoring him in the year of #metoo seemed like a gross misstep.
  13. Bleh. Allison Janney wins everything. Laurie Metcalf was robbed.
  14. Loooooove that Manny went to the game. I think Jason's fandom came from Schur and Joe Mande though. These tweets made me laugh out loud:
  15. Get your own bracelets, Victoria! I did find something for Vicki. What? (Fart) Bad Janet, great stuff as always. So glad to have the Janets, both Good and Bad, back. And yes, Mindy's happy ending was exactly the bit of joy I needed at the end of the day.
  16. Maybe this should go here. A bit belated, but I just came across this article from earlier this year where the show's costume designer talks about all the wedding dresses and where they came from. Interesting read. https://www.racked.com/2017/6/7/15742358/friends-tv-show-weddings

  18. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Kern isn't actually on set, so Bakula and others in the cast may not be aware of his behavior. He supposedly acted the same way when he ran Charmed, where Alyssa Milano was both a producer and one of the stars. After the story about him broke, she was interviewed about her experiences with him there: http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/alyssa-milano-charmed-brad-kern-allegations-reform-hollywood-sexual-harassment-1202641523/
  19. Caught the first few minutes (which was a few too many), and listening to LeBlanc's character talking about how men are better at some jobs than women, I inevitably thought of this: Which just made me think how much better that show was than this one.
  20. And Will and Grace had them repair their friendship after a big fight by throwing down in a bouncy house at a children's birthday party. This episode was full of fresh ideas! (At least they weren't cribbing from Friends like they did so much in Season 7.)
  21. Showrunner Brad Kern is the latest Hollywood player to have harassment reports come out. I've seen some comments wondering if his behavior is connected to Zoe McClellan's departure. http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/brad-kern-cbs-showrunner-ncis-new-orleans-cbs-harassment-1202641474/ http://deadline.com/2017/12/ncis-new-orleans-showrunner-brad-kern-investigation-misconduct-1202227263/
  22. "Hi there. I'd like to humiliate some hussies, and I'm in a hurry." Ugh. Go away, Gina! At least last season they went into the break by having her get hit by a bus. That's what these episodes really needed. Holt and Rosa's brief moment was everything I wanted from that story.
  23. The show returns January 4 (as does the rest of NBC's Thursday night lineup).
  24. A bit belated, but (because I didn't care for this one either and was wondering too) the credited writer, Neil Campbell, wrote last season's "Mr. Santiago" and "The Slaughterhouse," and this was the fifth episode for the director, Linda Mendoza, who directed "AC/DC," "Into the Woods" and "The Last Ride." I'm not sure what went wrong this time around, since it did seem off. But every show, and perhaps every writer and director, has a weak entry for whatever reason.
