  1. Yep. The rules are here. I think the thing is that a person (or team) can only get one nomination in a category, but a show can get multiple nominations. If CEG had other song writers, they could have submitted one of their songs. (In the second season of "Smash" the show got two song nominations--one by the Shaiman/Wittman team, one by someone else.) But since Bloom/Schlesinger/Dolgen are credited for all the songs (I believe) they could only submit one. (Other writers have found ways around it. Matthew Weiner used to get multiple nominations for "Mad Men" in a year; for a script he wrote by himself, one he wrote with another writer, and one he wrote with a different writer. Sorkin did the same the first year of The West Wing--nominated both for a solo effort and one officially co-written with another writer...and then the co-written one won and he went on to bitch about how he was the real writer of the episode.)
  2. Posted in the media thread, but the show only received one nomination, for "We Tapped That Ass." ("Math of Love Triangles" would have been my choice, but as I recall from the "Smash" days, a songwriting team can only submit one song for a nomination, so Tapped must be the one Bloom/Schlesinger/Dolgen went with.)
  3. Only one Emmy nomination for the show (booooo), but congratulations to Bloom, Schlesinger and Dolgen for their nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for "We Tapped That Ass"!
  4. Renewed for season 2! http://deadline.com/2017/07/claws-renewed-season-2-tnt-1202127411/
  5. I didn't really see it as smack talking each other, since it was mostly Erin taking shots at Aaron, Michael joining in and slamming him at one point, and Aaron largely just sitting there laughing it off without retaliating (certainly not to the degree they were hitting him). It's not really a rivalry when it's completely one-sided, IMO.
  6. I'm not really a fan of Aaron Rodgers (I could take him or leave him), but I didn't care for the way they were being so mean to him. The show is supposed to be fun. So unnecessary.
  7. Last night's was the first one I've seen this season. Some good stuff, but after a while, I got to the point where I wondered why Maxine is sticking around these people. They're terrible. And it's not like Jerrod's some prize that makes dealing with his family worth it.
  8. Must be. Either a twin, or a different type of lookalike, or there will be a bunch of flashbacks, or he'll be one of those dead characters who just won't go away, like a figment of their guilty imaginations (ugh). As long as he stays naked, he can stay.
  9. Or maybe she's too busy to reevaluate her battle outfit once she gets to London, so she ultimately wears what she's used to and trained in, especially since the wardrobe options available to her in London are limited (one widely distributed clip shows her stuck in a big flouncy dress once she gets to London, wondering how a woman's supposed to fight in it). Not to mention, several reviews point out one of the advantages of a woman director--the movie noticeably subverts the male gaze, never fetishizing her body or how she looks in the outfit. Variety: The A.V. Club: Or maybe the costume just adds to her awesomeness, and shows her casting off the standards and expectations of mankind's world. Rolling Stone: IGN LA Times:
  10. I really hope the reviews aren't setting me up to be letdown. Some of them are actually getting me choked up, like the NY Times:
  11. Another sign of my stupidity--the second clip wasn't even the one I meant to post (Stephanie saying nice things about Andy is nice and all, but "fun?" Eh.) This is the fun one. Real voice + dancing.
  12. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Colt Prattes is the dancer in Pink's "Try" video. It's considerably shorter than this mess, and he's shirtless and dancing in the whole thing, so it's a much more worthwhile way to spend some time.
  13. After the subject of Stephanie's real voice came up in the episode thread, I've been watching stuff with her on Youtube, and she has a podcast with her best friend. (Melissa Fumero was the guest on the first one.) I'm loving how different Stephanie is from Rosa. Makes her performance that much more impressive seeing how the real her is the complete opposite of Rosa. (She also talks about being cast on the show early in the video.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfL4W59h-Us
  14. Real voice (and just because it's a fun watch). (This is fun too.)
  15. Honest question--Does anyone enjoy cliffhangers where terrible things happen to characters we like, so the season ends on a massive downer and we get to spend the summer thinking about the hell they're going to go through before the inevitable turnaround? This just made me realize that I really, really don't. This didn't leave me eager to see how they get out of it (and I can't believe they actually pulled this without an early guarantee there would be a next season. The writers were right--if the show hadn't been renewed, people would have been pissed). It just left me bummed out. Not what I'm looking for in a comedy. But that's me.
  16. "Doctor, here's a tip. When I'm on a date, when that rare and special thing happens in my real life, do not, do not, under any circumstances, put the pope in my bedroom!"
  17. Good finale, and I liked how it summed up the underlying theme that's been running through this season--that sometimes life just sucks. While very funny and a bit more consistent than previous years, this season's been pretty depressing. Last year had so many good things happen to the characters, and it feels like it all went downhill this year. Jacqueline and Titus lost good relationships. Gretchen's triumph (however ridiculous) of being empowered and starting her own cult turned out to be a nightmare and she ended up imprisoned again. (She's happy about it now, but she was also happy about starting her cult, and look how that turned out.) Cyndee went from the woman who had a whole town catering to her every desire to selling bunkers at trade shows. Andrea lost her license and is selling piercings in a mall in New Jersey. Lillian went from her triumph of deciding to run for office to discovering she couldn't accomplish anything, then got a new boyfriend, only to discover he could die at any moment. (Which would be sadder if I thought they had any chemistry, but he's too boring and not nearly weird enough for this show.) Kimmy had both her college goals and crossing guard dream ripped out from under her (ugh--the latter was especially brutal). This episode made it seem like this wasn't an accident (or a pointless cavalcade of misfortunes), but a deliberate throughline for the season: you try to do things, and life just kicks you in the teeth. I'm glad Kimmy got to end the season with a win though, and hope that means the characters will be on an upswing next year. Loved the Back to the Future reference, complete with Marty's vest.
  18. For me, the lack of Mikey is exactly why Titus has been so unbearable for large sections of the season. That relationship humanized him and gave him moments that balanced out the annoying and over-the-top ones. Without it, the season has been mostly over-the-top moments. I was pretty much done with him after the hurricane episode and wished Kimmy had really walked away then. After making such a big deal about how she was his conscience, they pretty much tossed it aside here and had him dragging her into his asshole behavior again. I guess the really depressing thing was how I was left thinking that Titus needs Mikey, this season has proven Mikey is better off without him.
  19. I hate the Titus and Mikey breakup so much. That ending was brutal. :( Ray Liotta was good, and I never thought they'd actually have Jacqueline win and get the team re-named...but Titus and Mikey was all I was thinking about in the end. Too sad. Sigh.
  20. One of my favorites of the season. The dual Rachel Dratches, all the Linda gags, the return of Dr. Bayden (okay, that was a little sad) and the ending with Russ's new face. Hilarious from start to finish.
  21. The actress who played busybody Clara was very good. She was actually creeping me out in the middle section, yet the turnaround to not (entirely) evil in the end was completely believable. Loved Jacqueline's moment of triumph at the end.
  22. I knew they would break up Titus and Mikey because they couldn't move in together, since Titus has to stay in the apartment with Kimmy for TV reasons...but I really hate it. :( I hated this plot when it was Dana's Dating Plan on "Sports Night" (or to a lesser degree, when Will made over Dan Futterman and helped him come out, only to have him want to play the field). Yeah, it's realistic and maybe Mikey needs more experience, but realism isn't what I'm watching this show for, and TV has taught me it's not going to end well. Depressing. On a better note, I'd heard of Daveed Diggs but never seen him in anything. Damn, he is FINE. More please.
