Y'all probably already know this, but Singin' In The Rain is being re-released in select theaters on January 15 and 18.

Cassian knew that Jyn's father planned and incorporated the flaw for the Rebels to exploit. So Cassian also knew that Galen was more of a spy for the Rebels than a minion of the Empire. Jyn was able to retrieve the plans and get them to the Rebels, furthering the spy-type work begun by Galen. Thus, Cassian could say with conviction that Galen would be proud of Jyn, without ever having any personal interaction with Galen.

That was a good game! I don't remember there being too many TS, although I got teal and albatross, and wondered if they would have accepted just Joffrey or if they would have BMSed me. For FJ, I couldn't decide if Namibia was a member of the U.N., but couldn't come up with anything else, and ended up saying nothing. Boo hiss. Smart FJ wager by the woman on the end.

I called Narnia as soon as the category was revealed. I had to laugh out loud when it was right. :) It doesn't hurt my feelings that Stephanie lost, and I'm good with Justin winning. He reminds me a bit of Daniel Radcliffe. Mike was killing me with the not phrasing his responses in the form of a question. I also got gas leak, Tony Nelson, belles lettres (and "loved" Alex's pronunciation of that), and Civil War. I came up with Rhoda, but Phyllis eluded me.

I saw this this afternoon, and really enjoyed it. Stone and Gosling worked extremely well together, IMO, but I thought her voice was a little thin at times. Passable, but not the strongest of the lot. Gosling held his own fairly well. I ADORE "City Of Stars" -- I'm still humming it. But the end killed me. Heartbreaking, but at the same time, happy that they each followed and realized their dreams.

I got Svalbard because I really want to go there and see the polar bears. There were probably others, but I didn't write them down this time. And even though I knew it was wrong, I said Monitor for FJ. I didn't even think of the submarine. I was disappointed that Hallie lost -- mostly because I was done with Stephanie yesterday.
-
Well, I figured Stephanie would win, since she annoyed me -- first with the leaning and then with the not starting at the tops of categories. Boo, hiss. I felt bad for Wren. She started off so well! Not too many TS that I got -- just salinity and waif. And I couldn't come up with anything for FJ, but like @secnarf, kicked myself when it was revealed.

OMG, could Brad have chosen clues any more slowly? Not to mention the endless Cracker Jack story. Glad he didn't win. But Sam, with his wild-ass guesses, nearly did himself in. He should be incredibly grateful that he knew FJ. Which I did not -- Baum never even occurred to me, although when his name was revealed, I did a face-palm. I did know Vikander, Pan-American Highway, Ortega, Costa Rica, and the missed DD of RI and ND. @secnarf I also said alcohol dehydrogenase, and wondered the same thing!

Eh, I live in the South -- I'm used to the g-dropping. :) I went through the same mental gymnastics that our new champ did to arrive at the Bahamas for FJ. Nice announcement by Alex at the end. I wonder if we would have viewed the shows differently if we hadn't known.

I disagree that the shoehorned-in CGI scenes of Han and Jabba in Mos Eisley in A New Hope were necessary. To me, it actually detracted from when we meet Jabba in ROTJ -- I won't soon forget the impression that giant, drooling slug-puppet made on me. He was so much more intimidating as the puppet than as the CGI. Even now, I think the puppet version is superior. Perhaps if the CGI were better (and if Han actually looked in the proper direction when speaking with CGI-Jabba), I wouldn't mind so much, although there was enough other conversation/exposition to determine that Han owed Jabba a lot of money. A face-to-face between the two is just overkill.

Taking the Jabba discussion to the general Star Wars thread...

I don't think I've ever heard of "Radical Chic" -- the only book I could think of by Tom Wolfe was "Bonfire of the Vanities" and I just couldn't make any of those words fit the clue. Heh. However, just a couple of weeks ago, I saw the movie based on the book "A Man Called Ove" so I got that one right away (though I would have mispronounced Ove). Good movie, too. I also got Afghanistan, black holes and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
-
Compare this CGI Tarkin to the (stupidly added later) CGI Jabba in A New Hope. Tarkin is miles and miles better. Jabba (and that tacked on conversation between him and Han) just is idiotic. I miss the original originals.

Any easier to get into, and it might have been too noticeable and thus fixed before the Rebels could take advantage of it. Two meters square is a mighty big hole, really (and a mighty big rat!).

And even if it did have a key fob, the batteries were likely dead.

It ain't a Disney movie if parents don't die!

I came up with Belize immediately for FJ, but then couldn't decide which other country only bordered one ocean. I ended up on Nicaragua, though I suspected it was wrong. I was also surprised Erin missed three-peat, and that empower was a TS. Bobby Riggs being a TS was less surprising. In addition to those, I also managed 1960s, asbestos, Calamity Jane, and Destry Rides Again. Go, Cindy! She looked a bit more rested for this game than she did for some of the previous ones.

Just got back from seeing it, and I thought it was very nicely done. Very dark -- like the rest of you, I was surprised that all of Our Heroes died at the end, but it makes better sense that they did, than if anyone survived. That said, I wouldn't have minded if the blind guy and his companion had done. Loved all the little Easter eggs and tidbits from earlier/later movies -- lots of the scenes called back to scenes from the original trilogy. Also, Jyn and Krennic never learned the rule about bridges and catwalks in the Star Wars universe. Jyn to Krennic: "You killed my father. Prepare to die."

S10.E11: The Birthday Synchronicity
Browncoat replied to TheOtherOne's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
I am significantly older than the characters on this show, and I really really really want to go to Harry Potter land in Florida. I would be terribly upset if my SO went without me -- not only because it would be a major trip, not just a drive to the next town over, but also because I WANT TO GO and ride the magic train!- 95 replies

I've never seen Mad Men, so I had no idea for FJ -- again, as usual. I'm glad Cindy won again, but I did like the woman on the end. She reminded me of someone, but I just can't figure out who. I was surprised that LBJ was a TS! Also American Automobile Association, though I suppose if you think it's "Automotive" then automobile wouldn't occur to you. I also got High Life and Wyatt Earp (and sad that they all missed that one).
-
I guess my intense dislike of both Steinbeck and Hemingway led me to think of neither of them, and I blanked on FJ, as usual. Edward should have gotten a BMS on Sutherland. There are more than one! It might have been Kit Sutherland! Alex really needs to quit with the accents. I'm not sure what exactly he was trying to do with the "Don't hate on the playa" category. I managed to come up with Heart Of Darkness and caulk, but I don't remember any others that I got. Glad Cindy won again, though I wouldn't have minded if the woman in the middle had won. Edward was too enamored of starting in the middle of categories.
-
I hate to pick on her, and I am glad she won (and won big!), but damn, I wish Cindy had started at the tops of the categories! She did sometimes, but not always, and it always bugs me. Again, I'm glad she won, but still. I'm really glad Garrett didn't win, too. I got Little Drummer Boy, Christmastime Is Here, Jimmy Carter, Blue Ridge Mountains, and The Postman Always Rings Twice. I got distracted by something shiny when FJ was revealed, and couldn't come up with anything.
-
This is already miles and miles better than the Star Wars prequels!
-
Also clueless on FJ here. I couldn't even come up with Newton! Tim has a lucky streak a mile wide. Only his crafty wagering has saved him on more than one occasion, including tonight. I got Antarctic Circle, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Cape Verde, Pinocchio and Mock Turtle. Can't believe I missed orchid -- they had a bloody picture of the thing! But at least I didn't guess rhododendron! And while I couldn't come up with Cyprus, I certainly know that the Philippines are not in the Mediterranean.
