  1. Oh my god, why didn't I listen to y'all? I made the mistake of trying to watch this today, and just couldn't. I got as far as Eddie's entrance, but that was it. Not sure what LaVerne Cox was even trying to do, but she was so so wrong for Frank. Tim Curry just made me sad.
  2. Ditto. That is exactly the way we talk.
  3. The more I think about it, the more the swimming bit pisses me off. First of all, there are about a million other things to do in Hawaii besides snorkelling. Secondly, if she's okay with putting her face in the water, she could probably manage snorkelling -- give her a life jacket and some basic instructions with the mask and snorkel (and fins), and she'll probably be fine. But if not, that's okay, too. They don't have to be joined at the hip and do every. single. thing together. Maybe there's something she'd like to do that he wouldn't -- she could do that while he went snorkelling. Ugh.
  4. I get that players are nervous and all, and who knows? I might act just as inane as Lara did, but damn, it drove me just a little nuts. Also with the starting in the middles of the categories. I got Amish, Andersonville, Manassas, and North & South. I am horrible at geography in that part of the world, so I was clueless on FJ. I blame the USSR.
  5. "Meditate? You're saying it wrong! And you're supposed to do it by yourself!" had me howling.
  6. I laughed out loud when Jimmy said he knew nothing about sports -- I flashed on him as Kripke and the basketball competition between him and Sheldon for the big office. I somehow always end up feeling sorry for Ray, though.
  7. The best bits for me were the vocal fry imitations.
  8. Italics crossed my mind for FJ, but I didn't think that was a separate type of typeface, so I said Helvetica, too. I like Tim, but he needs to stop with the random clue-picking at the beginning of each game. And indeed, my local station showed the incorrect promo on Monday. They showed the one they should have saved until after today's game -- there has been no real suspense for me all week since I knew Tim would win. It kind of makes me sad that no one knew Bruuuuuuuce! It was also a bit surprising that no one could figure out rum for the Treasure Island clue. I also got Hall & Oates, icebox, Hedda Gabler, Kentucky, Mike Hammer, The Meaning of Life, Neitzsche (though I had to look up how to spell it), and necessary.
  9. I'm going to see a filmed version of George Takei's Allegiance next Tuesday, but I'll be sure to DVR that night's game.
  10. I just got to watch last night's game this afternoon, and good gravy, that was a crapfest! So many TS! Like most of the rest of you, I thought the most egregious TS was June. Mind you, I always remember it because it's my birthday, but Operation Overlord should be common knowledge. I didn't think of AZ and NM for FJ either, but never in a million years would have guessed Hawaii.
  11. And yet she was so slow in choosing the next clue.
  12. I may or may not have called the bowtruckle "Groot" as well.
  13. That was some crafty wagering by Tim tonight! So glad he won again, although I would have been okay with Anuj. I might have had a chance on FJ if I'd had a clue who the philosopher was. But at least the category was just "Authors" instead of "Women Authors". I also never in a million years would have come up with Rock, Paper, Scissors for that DD. I did, however, get the missed DD of Ark, and the TS of Sartre, green-eyed monster, whitewash and Antarctica (Adelie = penguins = Antarctica. I know, they live other places too, but still.)
  14. "Popular trio" in the clue made me think of Harry Potter, and from somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind, I have a vague recollection of Hermione being a name from mythology -- I really know next to nothing about mythology and can never remember who's Greek and who's Roman.
  15. I am shocked that only Tim got FJ! It was an instaget for me. Otherwise, I didn't pay much attention to the game after bearded guy at the end started picking clues randomly. I did laugh when he skipped the $400 clue in favor of the $600, and the DD was under the $400. Did anyone else's TV station air a Jeopardy! promo ad out of order?

    Studio Ghibli

I found out late yesterday that Spirited Away was coming back to select theatres today and I think tomorrow and one other day this week in celebration of its 15th anniversary. Fortunately, one of those theatres is in my town, so of course I went. For as little promotion as I saw, it was fairly well attended. They also showed Ghiblies 2 afterward -- a series of shorts by the studio. In January, they're re-releasing Princess Mononoke to the big screen. Check your local listings! Or the Fathom Events website.
  17. I don't think Penny despises the friendship -- she just despises the painting.
  18. I've never been a fan of practical jokes (although the Cheeto bits last season were hilarious), and playing on someone's phobias make the "jokes" even less funny. I hated the spider part. The rest was okay. Nice of them to show that not all girls are into ballet -- some might be into something less "girly" like boxing. But I knew she'd get clocked as soon as her mother distracted her. I also went to Cast Away with the beard.
  19. So glad Tim won! Ryan lost me, of course, when he didn't start at the tops of categories. I doubt the judges would have accepted, "That musical about Carole King!", but that was all I could come up with. I just could not come up with the title for anything. I did get colony, non-pareil, anemia, migraine (too familiar with those!), and Manzanar. FJ was an instaget.
  20. Clark is definitely the shining star in this somewhat bleak universe. I haven't been overly impressed. But I was surprised that the Millennials could recognize paper concert tickets.
  21. Oooh, good call! Christoph Waltz would have been a great choice for Grindelwald.
  22. This Christopher Lloyd character reminded me a bit of Reverend Jim from Taxi. And not in a bad way.
  23. Boo, hiss. I'm sorry to see Justin go. And while I knew Dresden = china, I couldn't make the connection to porcelain. I kept trying to come up with some decorative filigree for the china. Oh well. I did get Savannah, WildKatzenjammer Kids and Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
  24. I was surprised the woman on the end didn't get Serengeti! I got that one plus black bear, Malay and Buffalo. Didn't get FJ, though. I thought of several comedians, but Whoopi never crossed my mind.

    Moana (2016)

I saw this last night, and really enjoyed it! The animation was spectacular, and I also loved the resolution to the story. But the chicken. OMG, the chicken. The chicken slayed me every time it was on screen. No matter what it was doing (or not doing), I had to laugh. Perhaps it's because I owned and worked with poultry in a past life, but damn, the chicken. I'm still laughing about that stupid-ass chicken.
