  2. I see the resemblance much more in video rather than still photos because expression is revealed in moving images. That recording studio video above, that was just before he married Mia. Comparing their facial structure when they are similar ages is eerie. Seeing himself in her could be interpreted as part of his attraction to her, whether or not that was conscious. He had been where she was but she wasn't yet where he was at. I do see young Mia in Ronan's face, and young Mia resembles young Frank. They met when he was 49 and she was 19; they dated for 2 years before getting married, which lasted 2 years. He was her first sexual partner. Some of us never get over our "first;" add your first being Frank Sinatra to that equation. She brought her cat and a couple cans of cat food to their first overnight liaison in Palm Springs, thinking that she and the cat would sleep in the guestroom. The cat slept alone. In addition to the age difference he was too volatile and unpredictable for her, she was too young and unsophisticated for him. They had very few common interests. After the dust settled following their divorce they stayed in touch and frequently turned to each other in the best and worst times that followed. His long/last marriage to Barbara Marx didn't get in their way as much as Barbara thought it did. When Mia chopped off her long, long hair while she was starring in Peyton Place on TV, his ex-wife Ava Gardner (who truly was "the one who got away" in his mind) said "I always knew Frank would end up in bed with a boy." (Who looked like his young self. Hmm).
  3. I've always wondered if her orientation is a pose. Perhaps she would be single and unattached if she limited herself to a heterosexual life and what kind of storyline is that when your sisters are getting married and birthing babies? Her personality sucks and I bet her offers in the hetero world were few and far between. "A lid for every pot" ... yeah, unless no one is interested in you. As soon as Audrey came on the scene my opinion of Mariah leaned toward LUG - Lesbian Until Graduation. Some LUGs concentrate better on their education because their physical needs are being met while they aren't distracted by a bunch of hetero drama, and they have someone they can flaunt online. There isn't a whole lot of stigma attached to experimenting with your sexuality.
  4. This is a big part of their issues with the Clintons - Hillary can get as much as $200,000 for an appearance and Joey can only get $75,000. Vulva envy.
  5. A few years ago I bought a place that needed paint. I went gray in the living area and hallway and taupe in the other rooms. No matter where you are there's a contrasting color in sight. And depending on the light/the time of day, there's a lot of contrast. I listed it today and the realtor and photog kept saying how much "the real colors stand out" against the neutral background. They said you should do what makes you happy if you're in a forever home but otherwise look down the road to how someone else can immediately make it their own without having to make a big effort. I said "Flip or Flop" and they both laughed and said "Exactly." I have my eye on a place that's priced right but has diamond shapes in four colors on the main wall in the living area plus two black walls, dining room walls are black, an aqua BDR where the door has black zig zags, a BDR with black and red walls and a door with black zig zags, and a third bedroom with black walls and gray triangles on the door. Alrighty then!
  6. Frank's kids from his first marriage have many millions of reasons to deny Ronan's paternity. Their dad's estate was settled according to the terms of his will a long time ago but the youngest one, Tina, to this day licenses Frank's image to the hilt. On top of that, before he died he gave them the rights to his Reprise Records catalog which is all of his recorded songs from 1960-1988. Royalties, re-issues, all of that. Ka ching. He wanted to cut his last wife's son in on the action but his kids pitched a major bitch and he folded. Frank is long gone but still is quite the money maker. Nancy Jr's statement, quite different from Tina's, has always sorta made me wonder if they paid him something behind the scenes to forego the paternity issue. I got Ronan's book on kindle and it was delivered a few minutes ago. I will be reading All Night.
  7. Sinatra was multi-faceted, extremely intelligent and a huge reader who immersed himself in politics and current events, which is an aspect that wasn't very well known. In his private life, one of the quickest ways to earn his scorn (or a knuckle sandwich) was mispronouncing words or using them in the wrong context. That's why his diction, when singing, was always impeccable. Here's one of his biggest hits, It Was A Very Good Year, recorded in one take in 1965, arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins. They did some of their best work together. Watch and listen to how Mr Sinister pronounces the end of each word, especially those that are pluralized, and how he says twenty one instead of twenny one, like too many vocalists do. He recorded this when he was 50, twenty years older than Ronan is now, but I think their resemblance is very strong here; it's in their fleeting expressions, and their eyes, and the moment right before their smiles break wide open. We were raised in music stores and they forced us to appreciate all kinds of music and I was not in favor of that at all. We had a very hard time keeping this album in stock. On the days when we got 50 in our shipment we'd call 48 customers on the waiting list. Now I treasure those days even though at one point they made me throw away my Beatles albums!!! Bastards!
  8. You are right, and more precise than I was. Palliative care is comfort care and does not imply an end-of-life diagnosis. Palliative care is provided during hospice care, which (for insurance purposes) requires a last 6 months of life diagnosis. But patients are entitled to enroll in hospice multiple times. I knew patients who were in their third or fourth enrollment. I'm sorry for providing bad information. 😞
  9. Woot. I became agnostic 40 years ago and atheist about 10 years after that. I do right because it feels right - virtue is its own reward. Didn't come out of the closet until I retired 5 years ago because until then I had to worry about bosses/co-workers. Now, fuck it. 26% of Americans identify as atheist and it's the fastest growing "denomination." But, the amount of hatred and judgement after I came out has been a real eye opener. What happened to love thy neighbor and love thine enemy as thyself? I rest my case, LOL.
  10. Joan's post about the seams reminded me of a video I saw about poorly mass-produced clothing. The cutters use electric shears and cut through way too many layers of fabric at a time, with the result being that the top-most and bottom-most pieces are nowhere close to being uniform - and frequently aren't even cut with the grain of the fabric. But they sew them anyway. Sounds like LLN to me!
  11. Oh man, in my post above I should have called it the Magoot Strip Mall. I'll try to remember that more often, LOL.
  12. Salmon is a perfect example of how animals never cease to amaze me. In addition to his broken and lonely heart you know he was absolutely miserable from head to tail and many skin layers deep, plus the injured leg. Large strange creatures loaded him into a loud and smelly contraption and took him to a place filled with more large strangers and hard surfaces and unfamiliar lighting and funny smells. And yet he was so gentle and trusting and so cooperative during his intake exam. The large strangers touched him everywhere, all over his sore body and mouth and he allowed and accepted it. He knew he was in the right place. I wish there was a way to read their thoughts but we've learned to get by with eyes and tails and voices. (The animals on the zoo shows are amazing in the same way, so accepting and trusting). I can't watch this show very often because it turns me into a basket case but I am so glad I watched the beginning of dear Salmon's story.
  13. Isn't it ironic that most anti-depressants cause weight gain which, depending on the person's body image, causes or adds to feelings of unhappiness? 😞
  14. Hmm, that is interesting because I specifically asked if it is a fundraiser because that would understandably rule out the possibility of discounted tickets. And I said that. When she said "No, no, not a fundraiser" I wondered about the purpose. (Palliative care is a synonym for hospice care).
  15. She looks very rough, and dehydrated. It's like they grabbed someone at the Podunk Strip Mall, quickly ran her through a poor imitation of Hair and Makeup and pushed her in front of a camera. Without a drop of moisturizer, body lotion or hand lotion. Yikes.
  16. I agree with your thoughts about Robert Forster and especially his commentaries. It's incredibly sad that he passed just as another wave of public appreciation was headed his way. Beginning with his earliest work, he always was one of my big crushes. He had a very appealing way about him.
  17. Well, we can call right before the date to find out if tickets are still available. "I realize that it's short notice but how many tickets can I get?" 😉
  18. Ugh, that video. She might be the most insufferable sister and that's saying something. My stepmom who I adored studied nursing with Catholic nuns and was a US Navy nurse during WWII. Those were the days when nurses wore their hair off the collar. It was either severely short or up in a bun. I guess it traumatized her because she could not stand to see long hair, on anyone, for the rest of her life. She would grit her teeth and hiss "I'd like to get in there with a pair of scissors" (because the nuns cut off the hair of students who broke a rule). I wasn't sure that she would survive the '60s, LOL. I thought of her while watching the video because Miss Thang is entirely too enamored of how her hair extensions swing and sway against her fat ass. So of course I gritted my teeth and hissed "I'd like to get in there with a pair of scissors." And that felt real good. When it comes to people like the K/Js and Gwyneth Paltrow and a few others I get like "Why, Universe, why do so many born on third base think they hit triples?"
  19. ^^^ Too often, the majority doesn't take the time to consider how the minority thinks/feels. Sad.
  20. SoCal native here. The Los Angeles basin is filled with miles upon miles upon miles of cookie cutter subdivisions. It's a trend that began in the '40s and is still going strong. In many of the neighborhoods from the '20s and '30s you can see a block of homes with very few repeating floor plans and exteriors. For the most part, individual lots were/are rarely available except in some of the canyons and near the beaches. The big developers are the only ones who could afford to buy up SoCal and so they did. I grew up seeing miles of olive and orange and lemon orchards separating the towns but it has become one continuous chunk of asphalt stretching from the Inland Empire to the Pacific Ocean. The heirs of the original Spanish land grant families and ranchers and farmers made out like bandits and ruined a piece of heaven on earth. When I was a kid I wondered "How much does all of this weigh and does it add to the earthquakes? Does the crust get tired of carrying the weight?" I was a weird kid, LOL.

Dammit, I spent a good part of an afternoon at Stephen Wade this week but didn't see Mr/Mrs Padron. Timing is everything. 😞
  22. Brava to your entire post, film noire. You succinctly laid out what I've always thought but couldn't figure out how to say. The only thing I could add is my opinion that Big Kathy never did anything for love. BK and my mom were twins separated at birth. When she was in her 30s my sister with developmental delay and the IQ of a 6-year'old was gifted $1.1 million for her lifetime care by our great aunt. Mommy dearest divorced her husband right quick and broke my sister's trust and created her own trust. The money was gambled, cruised and timeshared away within 20 years. And fuck you Wells Fargo Bank, which charged huge monthly fees to protect 50% of the new trust from her financial depredation, which it did not do. Even Wells Fargo was afraid of my mother! I grew up hearing "If someone has something and I take it away from them that means I'm smarter." There has to be a special place in hell for mothers like that. BK is why Kyle is like a flea on a hot griddle with her many quirks, fears and tics.
  23. My hinting around with the nice gal who answered the phone is how I got the info that it's not a fundraiser for the hospice society. The price "reflects the cost of dinner and the room in the hotel where the speaker appears." I couldn"t figure out how to ask if the speaker receives a fee without arousing suspicion. Mentioning that I'm a retiree with a fixed income asking if any low cost/no cost tickets will be available threw her for a loop and it's the only question that rattled her. She stumbled around while answering and said if someone paid for tickets and then donated them back that info would become available about a week ahead of the date. I said that might be too late to get a good travel deal but it was worth asking about and thanked her for her time. And after I hung up, of course, I wished I had asked what you get for $100 and what you get for $250. Dang it! Going by some experience I have with hospice agencies and the Special Olympics that's not to say that the hotel isn't donating the meals and the space as a tax deduction (or as good will, to be sure), freeing the funds from ticket sales to be given to the speaker. AFAIK a speakers bureau gets part of the speaker's fee as a commission for booking them - because otherwise how do they make money, right? Travel and accommodations for the speaker can be part of the deal as well. It all depends on what each side in the transaction wants to get/wants to pay for.
  24. I made it through about 3 minutes of the tour of the Museum of Vapid. The rise and success of this tribe truly must be a sign of End Times. Because otherwise there is no justice on this plane of existence.
  25. LOL when Skinny told Jesse to help himself to the toiletries, including the Tommy Hilfinger. I always thought Todd AKA Meth Damon was the stuff of nightmares and that has not changed.
