  1. I think you mean James. Justin made way too much out of TeamPink sharing the address; he said he wouldn't share the address, but I didn't hear Mom/Son agree to that pact. FratBro's irritated me with the implication that James shared the info with them 'cause they're just so hunky. I was vaguely hoping for a non-elimination leg, but was oddly pleased to not have to come in and rant about how the two African American teams were fighting each other to see who would suffer the least discrimination. I will note, however, that these two teams seem to be bleeding an awful lot of (unseen) time during the "get taxis, go to point B," stages of the race, and I seriously wonder of skin color is playing a part. It isn't self-navigation. I didn't screen shot it, but did anyone notice how dense the instructions were? (We got a good shot while the paparazzi were arguing.) I think that there was something there, from having to give directions to a non-English speaking driver, to the distance, [remember when Phil would say, "task A is challenging and right around the corner, task B is easy, but will require a 15 mile round trip through Buenos Aires traffic?,"] that scared most of the teams into doing the cardboard task. I was also expecting something bad to happen to the reporters, as we heard the male half drone on and on about how good they were with details. A couple of RHaP (not just for Survivor!,) related things. On one of the shows, a group of folk were talking about a season of AR:Canada. A team that did really well, (won?,) revealed that they saved time by asking if folk would sign the release before they asked anything else. I believe there's only a crew of two, (camera, sound,) and that the camera guy is usually the one stuck with the releases. Jessica Liese, our recapper here at PreviouslyTV, does a live after-show on RHaP. In talking about Ernest and Jin, she said that this is the fourth reality show appearance for Ernest, (and at least the second for Jin.) They've all been Dance related, (So You Think You Can Dance, others,) I don't doubt they work hard, but I'm beginning to think that those "five jobs," are dance teacher here two days a week, dance teacher over there once a week, etc. Not an easy way to make a living, but not what is easily inferred. And as a final comment, the short term goal of the race, final leg excluded, is "don't get eliminated." While I don't want anyone to suffer a serious injury, the DudeBro who "pulled a hammie," in order to beat the fifty-one year old lady for second place gave me great enjoyment. (I live on sarcasm and schadenfreude.)
  2. Because it can't be too early, right? I believe we can glean from the previews for S31:E3 that season 32 will start off with a three tribe format. Remember that S32 is sitting in the proverbial can, waiting for next Spring to air - it was filmed before Second Chances. So, they have the three campsites all ready to go, and are using them in the current season.
  3. I am going to be stalking this and the media threads looking for new tribal division info. All. Freaking. Week.
  4. With nine women and nine men, Jeff will present them with specific bowls to choose from - 3/3 on each tribe. Huge (potential) lifelines for Spencer and Stephen. Hopefully Abi will end up on a tribe that doesn't want to keep her as a FTC goat.
  5. I have to disagree. I watch The Voice during the blind auditions and "battle rounds." Once "America" starts voting, I bail. I don't watch DWtS, or Idol, or any of that ilk because the results are so clearly, horribly, wrong that the fans have to be voting. Individual persons are great, people suck.
  6. Yeah, bad form to quote myself. But, NAILED IT!
  7. I’ve been pretty active in the threads, so this’ll be short. (-ish) Bayon (Purple/Pink) 1. Andrew (3) Four out of ten is not a controlling majority, but we didn’t see much in the way of alliance building from the rest. 2. Jeremy (4) 3. Ciera (2) Vytas’ boot may actually help her, as no one can cite them as a pair going into the merge as a reason to vote her out. 4. Joe (7) Moves up as part of the Alpha-pack. The meatiest of meat shields. 5. Keith (5) Still being drug along. 6. Tasha (6) I forget, did she agree to be part of the Alpha’s, or did they just assume? 8. Kimmi (8) 9. Kass (9) 10. Stephen (10) His position either got worse, because of what we were shown, or better if the edit was part of a ‘redemption arc.’ I was double checking before I confirmed the post, and realized I left out Monica. (Was number 1, now number 7.) That is how invisible her Purple Kelly edit was in the premiere. Ta Keo (Blue) 1. Kelley (2) Because anyone with a Hidden Immunity Idol gets a bump to make the merge. Plus, she was on the majority side of the vote. 2. Shirin (6) She was presented as one of the strategic leaders behind the Vytas elimination. 3. Spencer (8) As was Spencer. Three is not a majority out of nine, but all three of these players were shown making connections with other players. 4. Kelly (1) I don’t think the “Shelter vs Beach” dichotomy is as strong as presented. I think we could see some switching around, and I don’t think Wiggles is in danger. 5. Terry (4) I can’t wait to see the post-tribal night-vision session. Terry and Kelly aren’t getting dropped significantly, because I don’t think they’ll “lose their shit.” 6. Jeff (7) I’m going to repeat what has been said before: Jeff was eliminated in Australia on a 5-5 vote that went to a tie-breaker. There was no way he was going to risk a rock draw. [Though the visual of Varner switching on the revote, while someone else on the other side switches too, so that it stayed 5-5 would have been Fan-tas-tic.] As I mentioned above with Terry, his position will be solidified by how the shake out happens. 7. Woo (5) Clueless as ever. Does anyone else think that Woo is just surprised that people are eliminated? He just forgets the rules after each TC (because of the lingering effects of THC.) 8. Abi-Maria (8) 9. Peih-Gee (9) One, I’m not convinced that the majority is a six-strong alliance. Two, a six-three majority can sacrifice a member for “tribal unity,” and/or as an olive branch in anticipation of tribal swap shenanigans. OUT Vytas (3) Being a smarmy manipulator doesn’t work with folk who have seen you pull the routine before. I think the players are expecting swaps/splits, and if Vytas is gone, he can’t be on an opposing tribe in the (near) future.
  8. But they know who wins before the show airs. They can edit each episode to fit its self-contained storyline, and leave 'gaps' to be filled in with the winner / loser / "my god this dude is sexist" stories. (And as far as my John C. sea throne interview theory; I'd say they had everybody interview there once - just to have the footage loaded.)
  9. I most definitely don't only count the first episode, nor does it have to reference a million dollars specifically. In episode one of S31: Cambodia/Second Chances, Tasha's quote was specific, but Kass' was more of a, "I'm going to win." (All of the other contestants fell short of declaring a win in the opening, most went with a variant of "changing my story," which implies winning, but... And the survivor in question doesn't have to say it - in my opinion, the Philippines had a (couple of) MDQ when, at the fourth of Matsing's tribal councils both Malcom and Russell said, "If she (Denise) makes it to the final tribal council, she will win the million dollars." And it doesn't have to be said either - one of John C.'s first confessionals in Caramoan was on the most uncomfortable looking rocks in the water they could find. (And I don't think anyone else, including John, ever had a TH at that location again.) The thing about those rocks? They looked like the sea rock/ coral version of the Iron Throne, it was (visually) a complete coronation scene.
  10. I just rewatched the episode, and - because I'm obsessed for the moment - I kept track of confessionals. (I only counted it as one, if they broke away, and then continued.) I'm just going to give my thoughts, rather than try to cohesively put this down... Bayon had 18 confessionals - everyone had two except for Joe, who still managed a ton of hero-edit time, and Monica, who is this episodes, "Invisible Girl." (Because it's always a woman. Sexist pigs.) Ta Keo had 23 confessionals, but three were Kelley's regarding the HII, and two were Spencer's and Abi's mini-confessionals after they found out they were going straight to tribal after the challenge, take those away, and it was an even split by tribe. But, Ta Keo didn't have an even spread. Wentworth had 5, (but feel free to drop her down to two,) Abi had 4 (3,) but she was the "other vote getter," and she instigated braceletgate, and Jeff had three (total Narrator edit!.) Wiggles, Shirin, Vytas, and Spencer had two - nostalgia, strategic drive behind eviction, evicted player, and "do I really count the second," respectively. With everyone else getting one. And poor Peih-Gee's was regarding aggressive-passive-aggressive Abi. While these later season editors haven't been as obvious about things like "million dollar quotes," it's worth mentioning that we really only had two tonight; one from Kass (who isn't going to win,) and one from Tasha - during the opening spotlight segment - who could contend to win. [Though in pre-game interviews, lots of players noted Tasha as someone they were concerned about.] Last point, 12/20 players got to say something before the marooning. The unlucky eight? Stephen, Keith, Monica, Vytas, Terry, Woo, Peih-Gee, and Shirin.
  11. That was really nice to see these folk acting like real, relate-able, human beings. (Though Abi managed to look sour in her one shot. It was if she was pissed at being in a shot with Peih-Gee and Shirin. "I should be in a group photo with Kelley and Monica.")
  12. I had to Google, (Africa was so long ago, and the curse of Kelly.) I wish I hadn't - I now feel old, and like I've wasted a good portion of my adult life. Dr. Goldsmith is a professor of Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management (at Northwestern.) Though, it seems like she's done quite well without Survivor.
  13. And you specifically want to exclude Sandra, why? The food issue persisted longer than that, I recall reading that both Neleh and Pascal were in therapy for food hoarding after Marquesas. Already answered, but there are three (major media) outlets for Survivor related articles: Entertainment Weekly - done by Dalton Ross - usually video clips. An Xfinity blog - done by Gordon Holmes And Parade magazine - with articles by both Josh Wigler Stephen Fishbach does a blog for People. Yes, that Stephen Fishbach. CBS, of course does its own stuff, and (for a slightly independent take,) Rob Has a Podcast is really good also. ETA: There's a difference, really, between People and Parade.
  14. First episode of Know-it-all's is up. I don't know if Josh Wigler fits the "know it all," definition as it applies to the conceit of the podcast, but I enjoy him more as a co-host with Rob than Stephen. They have some really good things to say, bolstered by the fact that Wigler got to see the whole (unedited) tribal council while he was doing press in Cambodia. I'll probably talk bout it more in the episode thread, but I especially liked the commentary regarding the edit of Vytas being the "dodo," but the actual voting decision being more of a "we have an opportunity to get rid of a threat."
  15. I'm just glad they released the first eight minutes - because I'm going to miss the first fifteen live. (No DVR :( )
  16. I managed to write this sentence in my Survivor pre-game rankings: So I'd expand that to say, thank you CBS Reality Shows!
  17. It’s time to do a pre-show ranking. As always, before the merge, I’m giving extra weight to those players I think will make the merge. And, boy, do I have a bunch of caveats this season... First, as an “all returnee,” season, there ought to be less emphasis on the execrable myopia of voting women off early for “challenge strength.” [And, for as much pre-show chatter there has been about the men being strong this season, as a near-50 year old male, I can vouch for that being a bit overboard. And, these women, Kimmi probably excepted, are no challenge slouches.] Second, there is a “long standing,” quote about pre-show alliances being good up until the players hit the beach. While I think this is generally true, the fact that the one PSA I believe in the most managed to all end up on the same initial tribe, may save one of them from an early boot. Third, I’ve inferred from Probst interviews that there will be more than one tribe swap before the merge. At least two contestants have specifically mentioned that they thought that after the first two eliminations, they’d re-draw into a three tribe format. (After the initial 20 players has dropped to 18.) While this has no influence on these initial - spoiler free, but based off of official press - rankings, I really want it to happen. So I’m mentioning it. Fourth, I think the contestants were the least forthcoming with Dalton Ross of EW, middle of the pack, leaning towards honest, with Gordon Holmes of Xfinity, and the most honest with Josh Wigler of Parade (and RHAP’s replacement “know it all” this season.) I only felt like a couple of players were dishonest during Holmes’ align/malign game. [Which I made into a spreadsheet, ‘cause I’m JACKED for this season.] From a narrative standpoint, Ta Keo winning the first Immunity Challenge, Quest for Fire, which Kelly Wiggles lost in the Very First Episode Evah!, would make the most sense. Luckily, this isn’t a fully scripted show. These two tribes are very well matched physically, (seriously, the men are nearly a perfect 1:1 match; Andrew:Terry, Joe:Spencer, Jeremy:Vytas, Stephen:Woo, and Keith:Jeff; and the women are close, too; Tasha:Kelly, Monica:Kelley, Ciera:Abi-Maria, Kass:Peih-Gee, and Kimmi-Shirin,) so much so, that I don’t want to have to predict a winner. Bayon (Purple) This tribe has only eight pairs of “align’s.” (Both players told Holmes that they wanted to work with the other.) And, it has the most “maligned” players (Tasha received eight from her tribe, Ciera, Kass, and Kimmi all received seven.) So it could see chaos, but, Joe, Jeremy, and Andrew all singled out working with each other in pre-tribe split interviews. Do Stephen and the women break up the Bromance? Or do they survive long enough to bring in others to form a true alliance? 1. Monica The winners of full All-Star seasons? Amber and Sandra. Of 50/50? Parvati and John C. History says either (or both,) she and Ciera should, at worst, make the merge. 2. Ciera Ranked below Monica because all the “old school,” players seem to view her voting against her mother as shifty, rather than an attempt to prove her loyalty to her alliance. 3. Andrew The least threatening of the Alpha Males on this tribe. 4. Jeremy 5. Keith Being dragged along to ~Final Six. 6. Tasha A lot of players seem threatened by her, but there are a lot of more visible targets. 7. Joe Last boot before the merge? 8. Kimmi 9. Kass Kimmi may be viewed as predictable. Kass won’t. 10. Stephen I don’t think he’ll be the first person voted out of this tribe, but he’s not sniffing the merge. Ta Keo (Blue) The love tribe. Fifteen “align” pairs. The top “malign” vote getter? Woo, with six. The Jeff Varner pre-alliance (with Terry and Kelly,) are all together. Lots of folk want to work with Terry, lots want to work with Kelly; if they can leverage it, they’ll be able to keep Varner long enough for his aura of desperation to fade. (He wants this.) It really hinges on Vytas, if he joins with them, boom. If not? It will be interesting. 1. Kelly 2. Kelley Same reasoning as above. Wiggles almost seems revered, so she gets the nod. 3. Vytas Though many players seem wary of him, good thinking!, I think he’s going to attract alliance offers like ants to a picnic. 4. Terry I don’t see him being threatened early. 5. Woo Skating along because of the presence of bigger targets. Could make the merge. 6. Shirin Other players have an equal or greater annoyance factor (Abi, Peih-Gee,) so if she keeps her head low could advance far. 7. Jeff I think he was playing “too hard, too fast,” once the potential cast list was announced. A lot of players distrust him already; even if his alliance saves him, I see him as being their first cut. 8. Spencer He’s in the same position as Stephen, plus he is significantly the youngest person out there. And his previous season has four players. The only reason I don’t have him lower is because, as much as it shouldn’t be a thing this season, they’ll still want to keep him for “challenge strength,” given that there are other good targets. 9. Abi-Maria 10. Peih-Gee Because nothing pisses off other players like hyphenated names. Seriously, I think Abi will revert to her (loud) ways; and many of the interviews singled out PG as being annoying at Ponderosa, before they even hit the beach. Add to that my impression that she isn’t as “connected” to the Survivor community...
  18. Was Siahna the name of the fifteen year old? 'Cause that girl had the most stage presence of any of the singtestants tonight.
  19. That tab leads to threads related to specific episodes / feeds from the previous seasons. I was looking for a more generic "catchall" thread like we have in the Survivor forum. ETA: There is a separate tab for players from the previous seasons.
  20. We don't have this thread for Big Brother yet, and my reply doesn't relate to the feeds for this season, so ... Antics which were prompted and encouraged by production. Yes, Danielle should have resisted, since she knew the evicted houseguests would have access to her DR's, and shouldn't have talked smack in the first place. [but, dear Lord, how boring would this show be without at least one shade-thrower in the cast?]
  21. Biggest take-away from that article: There will be a USA v. the World special - just not when it might air.
  22. I finally go around to ranking the seasons for RHAP's poll. I decided to rank these by how much I enjoyed the season, as opposed to what I thought of the winner, or what I thought of the strategies employed: and it resulted in some quirky results. (BTW - I'd totally be behind re-doing this exercise with winners, SDT getting two spots, one for each season.) I ranked the first ten seasons, then the second - and then merged the two lists; then I ranked 21-30, and merged again. Top Three: 3. Cook Islands - the entertaining version of Ozzy, mutiny, Billy making a love connection from afar (or maybe not,) and one of my favorite winners. 2. Pearl Islands - Rupert and Sandra were awesome in the first episode, Fairplay played his character perfectly, Savage treated people like crap - and got karma'ed for it - a fun season to watch. 1. Australia - it might not hold up on rewatch, but this was a cultural touchstone at the time. Interesting characters, the most dramatic medivac of the show, wagging fingers, and a location that really tried to kill the players. (Probst had to love taking away Colby's tarp-flag in exchange for some rice.) Bottom Three: 28. All-Stars - at the time, I wasn't that excited to see any of these players. Hatch (deliberately) harassing Sue, Rupert at his worst, and the stink of pre-game alliances hurt this one. (And, while I think Amber and Rob played a good game, Amber being on the season in the first place was a mystery.) 29. Nicaragua - The antics of Na Onka, the double quit, generally unlikable people all around. A strategic nothing for a winner. Shoe-gate. Super bitter Jane. The Medallion of Power. And the rumoured final tribal tie that we didn't get to see. 30. Samoa - I want to watch 16-20 different people play Survivor. I don't want to watch the Russhole show. And yes, I am aware of the apparent irony of my disliking All-Stars, but being so excited for Cambodia/Second Chances. I'd say that voting for the contestants means that I am excited to see (some of) these players.
  23. As I mentioned above, I am paying more attention to Survivor media for this upcoming season than any season other than Australia. And while I probably won’t do a “pre-season” ranking list until the morning of the 23rd, I do have some thoughts from the stuff I’ve gleaned from RHaP, People’s Wiggler, ET’s Ross, and Xfinity’s Holmes. On Bayon, both Joe and Andrew have mentioned wanting to form a he-man alliance, not so much for the usual, “wimmin folk are weak,” reason, but because they both want a bunch of other meat shields around they can point to and say, “that guy, he’s a challenge threat!” (That, and I’m sure, in the early game they probably believe it would, “make the tribe stronger.” <gag>) Kass and Stephen look like the early boots here. (Which, yeah! and boo-hiss, respectively.) Over on Ta Keo, I’m hearing a lot of, “I want to align with a (physical) threat and someone “worse, (either physically or socially,” than me,” from these players. This tribe also has all of Jeff’s supposed pre-game alliance. Spencer and Peih-Gee are my guesses, for now, for the targets.
  24. Dalton Ross seemed to be filming his interviews out in the open, (eavesdropping: likely,) and Josh Wigler specifically mentions that his interviews are in his cabin, with the fan going, (eavesdropping: less likely.) I don't remember getting a sense of where Gordon Holmes is doing his - BUT, Holmes' and Wigler's interviews align with each other more than with Ross'. Take from that what you will.
  25. Isaac may not care, but his girlfriend was shooting him an, "I'm tired of living out of the van," look before his run if I've ever seen one.
