Previously in this thread, I speculated that the almost all-male makeup of the TCA panel was driven partly by the CW's attempt to portray itself as a network that appealed to the male demo. I just came across this article that seems pertinent to that speculation... Sara and Oliver were both emotionally messed up people. They both spent five years in constantly stressful, life-and-death situations, so they probably developed a mindset during those years that it's okay to take comfort when and where you can. So while I can blame them for hooking up while pre-island Oliver was with Laurel, and I can blame Sara for never apologizing to Laurel, I can't blame them for hooking up upon their return when they were both free agents. However, they both should've known that going to the Lance family dinner together was wrong. I agree that Sara knew what she was doing, but Oliver was just thoughtless. As for Felicity taking away Oliver's excuse for not going to the Lance family dinner, she was understandably upset at the time for her perceived failure to do her 'job' as a member of Team Arrow and just wanted everyone to leave her alone. The only two choices for Oliver were not (1) stay in the Arrowcave or (2) go to the Lance family dinner. Oliver could've just said to Sara "I don't think it's a good idea for me to go with you" or "I don't want to hurt Laurel" and then left on his own to go somewhere else.

First, I said "boxing muscles" - I didn't say she had no muscles. Second, I was making a simple observation. At the end of the "Sara" episode, when Nyssa was leaving and came to see Laurel, Laurel was punching a bag and we could see her bulked up shoulders and arms. I actually admired KC for putting on those muscles because it showed dedication to her character's boxing regimen. But when I was Googling "arrow cw" and came across this news article with recent pics of KC in a bikini, that added bulk to her shoulders and upper arms seems to have disappeared. I don't 'follow' anyone on instagram or twitter.

Other examples of couples who started out as friends and became lovers and OTPs, but there was never any doubt that they loved each other (even when they were just friends): Mulder and Scully on The X-Files Kate and Rick on Castle Brennan and Booth on Bones John and Aeryn on Farscape Richard and Kahlan on Legend of the Seeker (and Sword of Truth books) Incidentally, I hope that when the closing credits roll on the last episode of this season, I'm not going to be sitting there hoping for an X-Men: Days of Future Past-type reset of Season 3....

I"m glad that Felicity will be "standing strong" in the next three episodes, but frankly, it just sounds like an euphemism for doing nothing other than being background support like the fern in the Arrowcave.

I wonder if they'll add EBR as a last minute addition to the TCA panel due to all the backlash, if she's going to be in LA anyway. Or maybe she's on the plane - albeit in a different section - because she was a last-minute addition. Here's my speculation as to why they have such a testosterone-heavy TCA panel. One, the CW wants to establish itself as the network to watch for superhero shows (since superhero shows and movies are so popular right now) so they want to show off all their shiny new DC Comics toys - er, characters - that they've gotten the rights to use (as Kordi said). Two, the CW wants to change its old rep of being the teen drama network that appeals mostly to girls and show that they are a network that'll attract the male demo as well. Hence, you've got all these men on stage playing DC "heroes and villains". Then, they had to add at least one female so they picked KC because they want to promote the upcoming BC (non-)arc for ratings reasons and because she's playing a black leather clad DC character who fights (again the geek boy sexual fantasy). As has been mentioned, DR is the question mark because he's not playing a costumed, classic DC superhero or villain and Diggle has as much of an arc on the next three episodes as Felicity or Thea (I don't think the Suicide Squad/HIVE stories will air until later in the season; even so, Lyla has an equal connection to them, but AMM's not on the panel either). However, he does fight, he's a man, and he adds diversity to the panel. But still, the panel looks odd and gives a bad impression of both shows. Incidentally, I think it's right for KC to be there but she should not be the only female cast member included. Some of those guest stars could have been omitted, and their characters just mentioned by the EPs.

Except that Guggenheim said: "Roy, Felicity and Diggs really come to the fore in 10, 11 and 12, for reasons I think will be pretty clear by the time you see episode 9." (Source) So EBR has as much right to be at the TCA as CH and DR. It's all B.S. They have their ulterior motives for why they included who they did on the TCA panel, and anything they say to explain their choices will be lies.

Shailene got rave reviews for her performance on The Descendants (with George Clooney), which I did not see. However, I did see her performance on Divergent and agree with your assessment of her acting. I found her to be blank-faced and charisma-free. But maybe it's a matter of needing the right project for her to shine. Also, it could be that she's gotten more shine because she's emerged as a star at the same time as Jennifer Lawrence and they get compared a lot - both being young blonde, fresh-faced actresses. For me, however, Jennifer Lawrence is a much better actress and well deserving of her Oscar. Jennifer has been great in every movie I've seen her in. I thought her performance even elevated the Hunger Games movies.

Thea's full name is Thea Dearden Queen. Oliver sometimes calls her Speedy. There was speculation that Thea is the tv version of Mia Dearden, a DC Comics superheroine - the second character to take the monikor of Green Arrow's sidekick, Speedy. There was also speculation that she could become Artemis or Cheshire. It would've been smarter for the CW Marketing people (or whoever is responsible) just to include Felicity/EBR in the twitter poster and TCA panel as part of the Team Arrow heroes, rather than exclude her. Now her absence has just become a controversy that might distract from their agenda of promoting the rest of the season. If they had just included her, there'd be no issue. Or maybe it's just an issue for fans, and the television critics won't care. I wonder if any of the television critics attending the TCA will ask about EBR's absence. If so, I can just imagine the Arrow/Flash EPs' responses (my comments are in italics): TV Critic: The title of your panel is "The Heroes and Villains of Arrow and Flash". I noticed that Emily Bett Rickards is not here. Do you have to wear a costume to be a hero? EP: Absolutely not. I think we've shown over the past two and half seasons that regular people can be incredibly heroic - as demonstrated by Diggle (nods to DR) and Felicity Smoak. TV Critic: Then why isn't Emily part of your Arrow panel? EP: (forced laugh) Well, our shows have large casts and we could only bring so many people to this event. We have a very exciting second half of this season coming up on Arrow, so we wanted to focus on our newer heroes and villains who will be featured. TV Critic: But you have Colton Haynes here. EP: Arsenal is one of those DC Comics heroes that we've been really excited to add to our show. And he's going to step up in a big way in the episodes coming up when the show returns on January 21st. We also have David Ramsey here who plays Diggle, who's very much a hero and he does not wear a costume on the show.
