  5. That Out of the Closet analysis is very interesting - esp. since I just finished reading MG's comments about how he wished they got Oliver into the LOA earlier and could've kept him as Al Sah-Him for a longer stretch of episodes.
  6. Non-spoilery MG comments at http://marcguggenheim.tumblr.com/(he also posted some fan praise for this season, also I've put the fan complaints about the O/N wedding in the 3x22 episode thread)...

  10. I think my comments are new (sorry if I missed something and they're not)... Even if the marriage is only legal in NP, neither Oliver nor Nyssa will want to stay married in any jurisdiction. Oliver, for obvious reasons. Nyssa, because she won't want any kind of ties (technical or not) to any man, and because marriage could have LOA ramifications that could hamper her if she's going to take over the LOA. Also, if CL returns as Sara, then also obvious reasons. I rewatched the 3x23 promo again and noticed for the first time how SA changes his voice while he's saying "My name is Oliver Queen", so that he starts off in his gruff Al Sah-Him voice but ends with his regular Oliver voice by the time he says "Oliver Queen". Real nice.

  12. Trying to make sense of a villain who makes no sense... Rationalizing Ra's I've been trying to reconcile Ra's apparently contradictory and conflicting words and actions this season, and this is what I've come up with: 1. This Ra's is all about power and control. Malcolm's destruction of the Glades, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, earned Malcolm death - not because Ra's is against killing innocents, but because Malcolm was acting rogue and not in obedience to Ra's' commands. In contrast, Oliver's destruction of Starling City, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, would be in obedience to Ra's' commands. Ra's sparing of Maseo's life was also his way of exercising the power of life or death over a minion. Maseo's confession was an acknowledgment of that power, which pleased Ra's. He could just as easily order Maseo's death on another occasion. 2. This Ra's is a master manipulator. Ra's will say whatever it takes - and even outright lie - to get people to do what he wants. His words to Oliver (when he was 'wooing' him) about having the power of the LOA army to do more in the world was part of the seduction. Ra's also never intended to kill Nyssa. He ordered Oliver to bring her back to NP so that he could compel her into marriage in order to extend his lineage. 3. This Ra's is an evil egomaniac. Ra's wants to create a bloodline dynasty of future Ra's al Ghuls, regardless of how the LOA has chosen successors in the past. He doesn't care about LOA traditions, just about himself. I fanwank that when Ra's became Heir, he was much younger - perhaps around 30, but the LP is no longer effective in maintaining his youth, so he started aging rapidly only in the last few years. Unsure of whether he will be able to defeat future challengers, he wants to go out on his own terms and with his successor hand-picked, with a future blood heir in the works.
  13. Just my opinion... In Defense of Felicity's Tears If someone you love dies, do you: (A) cry, (B) remain stoic and suffer in silence, or (C ) act happy and make quippy jokes? If you answer 'A', you're Felicity. If you answer 'B, you're Oliver or Diggle. If you answer 'C', you're no one I recognize. Last season, IIRC, the only time Felicity cried was when Moira died. When she told Diggle that she didn't know why she was crying since she didn't even like Moira, Diggle said that she was crying for Oliver. That's who Felicity is - she's empathetic and wears her emotions on her sleeve. I don't recall tons of people complaining about her crying then. This season the losses have affected Felicity more directly: Sara dies - If Felicity cried when Moira (the mother of someone she cares about) died, then of course, she'd cry when her own friend dies. Oliver dies (she believes) - Felicity loves Oliver. Maybe at that time, she still hadn't acknowledged to herself that she was in love with him, but he was arguably her closest friend. 'Oliver Queen' dies when he becomes Al Sah-him (she believes) - At this point, Felicity knows that she's in love in Oliver, they've acknowledged their feelings for each other, and they've slept together. She also knows that he has struggled with his humanity for three years. So even though he's alive physically, he's lost the real battle for his soul (she believes). If these kinds of losses aren't worth crying for, then what is? Maybe people would've preferred that Felicity remain stoic and suffer in silence. That's not her. She is openly caring, loving, and soft-hearted when it comes to those she cares about. For her not to cry would be OOC. Maybe she was supposed to grieve quickly and then get over it. But grief takes a long time to overcome, so what if she sheds a few residual tears in subsequent episodes. She still stays strong in her grief. She continues to do her job for Team Arrow. She continues to be a friend. She tries to move on. In addition, in between all those major losses, other stuff happens that further confuse, frustrate and throw her for a loop, so it's no surprise that her emotions remain close to the surface. All of these things happen within the space of 7-8 months. So if you want to blame anyone for Felicity's tears this season, don't blame Felicity. Blame the EPs for creating a season with so much to cry about.
  14. I still feel like the fact Malcolm orchestrated Sara's murder has been glossed over, and is barely remembered by anyone anymore.
  15. Rich Epstein's belated review of 3x21 "Al Sah-Him" at BleedingCool (more recappy and less reviewy than usual)... The Whole Scoobie Gang - Recapping Arrow 3.21: "Al Sah-Him" By Rich Epstein Posted May 6, 2015 http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/05/06/the-whole-scoobie-gang-recapping-arrow-3-21-al-sah-him/
  16. That article was announcing the winner of Eonline's Alpha Male Madness 2015 contest. It was down to Sam Heughan and Colin O'Donoghue, and Sam won. Stephen Amell was eliminated in the previous round.

  18. I like this pic - kinda highlights how they could've used Barry's help earlier...
  19. They certainly released those spoiler pics quickly.
  20. If I think of Diggle and Felicity as part of Oliver's 'family' (like Thea), then I have an easier time accepting that they will both forgive Oliver - even Diggle eventually, although issues may crop up later. If S4's theme is indeed going to be family, maybe there will a comparison or conflict between biological family members and created family members, with distrust issues percolating throughout the season.
  21. I don't recall this, but I could be wrong.
  22. OK, so he went to duel Ra's to save both Thea and SC. But, IIRC, he didn't know that he would be expected to destroy SC until Ra's told him in 3x22.
