  1. I am super low maintenance and have never had my brows done so maybe I shouldn't comment but damn are her eyebrows terrible. Wrong color, wrong shape, and just too prominent for her facial structure.
  2. I actually think it's not a bad sentiment. If you are coming to worship and only focusing on the mask issue, you won't actually be focusing on God. So just stay at home for now. I'm much more upset about the misplaced comma than the message lol.

I'm not sure even the neon 80s glory that was Andre Agassi would have worn these Nike kits. Feeling like we need to strengthen our ABN vibes. People falling out of the draw all over the place.

I'm also ok with Isner going out early...
  5. My religion professor in college was an atheist. I felt he could teach the history of things with less bias than someone with a strong faith tradition that may influence him. That is simply my opinion, I'm sure that others have had different experiences.
  6. Or when your wife's grandmother died not long ago from drowning in a swimming pool... (she may have died from a stroke, but she was found in the pool.)
  7. I hope they weren't planning to have Carlin come photograph the new baby for the announcement. She did the post-Annabelle photos so it wouldn't surprise me if they had planned to have her come back. I'm praying they are all smart enough to have the COVID + best friend stay home.
  8. The 66/28 construction in Western Fairfax is kinda scary sometimes lately. The lane lines are suggestions and sometimes the lanes just end. Topic: Has Anna made any comments on social media about public schools? I've seen some fundy homeschool parents screaming and demanding that public schools reopen because... whatever, 'Murica. But others have been helpful and welcoming to families that are trying to figure out virtual learning and how best to structure things. Has she weighed in either way?
  9. When my teenage girls decided to pierce their ears, I took them to a profession piercing salon. The owner did not allow any piercings for children under 7 and for older children, she required a conversation directly with the child to gauge their desire for the procedure. It was super professional and I was impressed with their sterile procedure and technique. While some pediatricians do offer piercing in the office, I imagine Abbie just took the baby to Claires.
  10. Several states will pay a bounty for coyotes. I really can't tell what animal Lawson shot but it's very possible he received money if it was an unwanted predator.
  11. My daughter is looking to apply to music conservatories in a couple years. I may have her add Oberlin just as an excuse to visit the Cheesebarn LOL.
  12. She is a physical trainer who works at Liberty. Through a quick check of her social media, her husband also works at Liberty and they just announced that she is pregnant. I will not post her name here but in the original IG photo, she is tagged. Believe me, I agree with you. I've had thoughts and opinions about that whole family for over 20 years while living in Lynchburg. Very little positive to say.
  13. On his remaining IG post, there is a picture of the same woman in the same outfit with some of his female family members. It's definitely him. Supposedly they were having a "Trailer Park Boys" themed party on a yacht. Possibly to celebrate his daughter's engagement. And remember, he isn't a preacher (he says quite often when people call him out on his behavior). He is an educator and a lawyer.
  14. The article I read also had a timeline. It seems the girl began taking azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine the day of the party (maybe the day after) so either she was already having symptoms or they didn't really believe Jesus would save her and were hedging their bets. I am horrified that any health care provider would be this ignorant or narrow minded that politics/religion could sway opinions this far.
  15. As an ICU nurse, I know this is true. I work in the hot spot for my state. My patient population has NOT been old or black. Only some were fat, and while most had underlying health conditions, they were not "sick". Quite a few had no medical history at all. The consistent factor has been lack of social distancing, usually due to crowded living conditions and continuing to work in jobs that require group work. I'm very concerned about opening up and seeing a resurgence of cases.
  16. The site of half my elementary and middle school field trips.
  17. The very first thing my kids do after a professional haircut is change their shirt because of all the "itchy" hairs. And my kids are teenagers. Also, it wouldn't be unreasonable for her to cut their hair, then give them a quick bath get all the loose hairs off so then a clean shirt makes sense.
  18. Not @doodlebug, but the answer is "it depends". The worse the lungs, the more we want the machine to do all the work and we will sedate heavily to prevent the body from triggering a breath. We even use medications to paralyze the patient to ensure that they can't fight the ventilator. These are the patients that we use LOTS of sedatives because no one should be aware that they are paralyzed. But other patients, and for all patients as we wean them, we want them to do some of the work of breathing. That is how we strengthen their lungs to the point that it is safe to take the tube out. The ventilators we use have different modes that allow the patient certain levels of freedom to breathe. There has been a lot of research about all of this. The current consensus is that the least amount of sedation leads to the best outcomes so outside of the current pandemic, we use less sedatives than we did 10 years ago.
  19. We do our best to sedate appropriately. I will say that these patients as a whole have been more difficult to sedate than normal. There is a risk of a national shortage of sedatives so we are being creative with what we are using. Ever heard of the street drug "special K"? Now a pretty common sedative in our ICU called ketamine. The drug that killed Michael Jackson? Propofol - actually one of my favorite sedatives because it is quick on and quick off. Fentanyl - killer of many but a terrific pain reliever in the ICU setting. With any ventilator patient, it is important to have them wake up occasionally to ensure that they have not had a stroke or other neurologic change. Also, we have to keep patients more awake when we are weaning the ventilator so patients are doing all the breathing and we know they are ready to take the breathing tube out.
  20. Not sure about that ventilator article. Background: I'm an ICU nurse in a designated COVID unit. We have been seeing COVID patients for over a month. Our thinking on how to treat patients has changed over time. We are still using ventilators but we are not using the traditional ventilator settings for severe flu or PNA patients. The lungs of COVID patients do not behave the same way as other severe respiratory illnesses. There is also an unexpected issue of blood clotting (micro clots) that impair oxygen exchange. It is true that patients on ventilators tend to need longer care but one reason is that we are not placing tracheostomies as we normally would for infection control reasons. This makes it more difficult to wean from the vent in some patients. Its also a fine line for infection control. Using high flow oxygen in a patient's nose blows the virus all around and needs negative pressure rooms to protect staff from the virus. Before this pandemic, only 2 out of our 18 beds had that capability. Luckily, my hospital system spent $$$ and converted all our ICU rooms. Not every hospital has the resources we do. While I'm not sure what the scientific data shows, I feel safer taking care of ventilator patients than ones on high flow oxygen or ones who are coughing in my face. (which I realize might sound terrible, but its true) The 80% mortality rate for ventilator patients does not hold true for my hospital. We have had several patients come off the ventilator, recover, and go home. Cant't extrapolate beyond my own experience but wanted to share a little positive real world data.
  21. Nysha I am so sorry you are going through this. My 16 yo daughter had her first tonic clonic seizure in December while at swim practice. Hers only lasted 30-45 seconds but she was in the water so EMS came and transported her to the hospital. It took her almost an hour to get back to her normal mental baseline and another hour or two before her gait was back to normal. While treatment of pediatric seizures is very different than the adult world I work in, we were in the neurologist's office within 48 hours and sent for an MRI and EEG. I was also told very clearly that if there was a second seizure and especially if it lasted more than 5 minutes, we were to return to the ER. They would have also checked labs to ensure his sodium levels were within normal limits and that his blood sugar was normal. Also, unless the ED has gotten their hands on the Abbott rapid COVID tests, he would not have immediate results. He also would have been a low suspicion patient and I doubt would have qualified for testing. Sorry for side-eyeing her story, but as a mom who just went through something similar and as an adult ICU nurse, I think there are some holes in the story. Mostly, I hope your guy is ok and that you can get some answers to ensure his safety and your peace of mind.
  22. As a minister's wife and an ICU nurse, I want to smack her. But mostly want to smack the ministers who keep encouraging gatherings. I am exhausted and not very nice right now. Stay home people!
  23. There is also a problem with that data for rural areas because there are many rural counties with limited grocery stores and health centers. People have to travel for essential services so it looks worse than areas with more resources. However, southern governors are not helping by not enforcing stay at home. Or my favorite, the governor of GA stating he didn't know there were asymptomatic carriers until a few days ago.
