What An Idiot: Stupid Movie Character Moments
Shannon L. replied to Spartan Girl's topic in Everything Else About Movies
Hoskin's in Jurassic World didn't just do something stupid, he was a stupid character all around. Using raptors as weapons of war was a dumb idea from the start. It was obvious that Owen, even after working with them since the day they were born, still had to maintain sharp attention to and caution with them, yet Hoskin still thought that they are trainable enough to follow commands in the field? I likened the raptors to our bloodhound: we were ecstatic when we finally got him to learn to sit and even then, until the day he died, we had to be firm and, at times, still had to repeat ourselves more than once (unless we were holding a snack 🤣 ). FFS, Hoskins even saw the raptors lunge after Owen when he turned his back on them. -

He's also in Molly's Game (which I love). His character is a bit of a jerk, but there's a scene between him and Jessica Chastain at the end that, imo, is a great moment for him. -
Of my kids was looking at a movie website and said "Barbie tickets are on sale now?" and immediately went to the Universal City Walk (Hollywood) website to buy tickets. The show time she wanted was sold out already.

Ok, I believe you. I stopped watching Flash a couple of seasons before it ended and don't remember the early episodes very well.

We saw it last night. I've never been a big fan of the DCEU movies and have always felt like the Marvel universe was superior, except for a couple of movies that I didn't like, and I did love Wonder Woman. Like most of their movies, I was entertained, but felt like it was a mess overall. Many of the DC movies just seem off for some reason that I can't quite pinpoint (except Shazaam: I felt like it shifted from PG-13 to a movie for young kids way too often-like they couldn't figure out exactly what kind of movie they wanted it to be). I was amused by the all of the cameos and the cgi characters of actors who have died didn't bother me too much only because it was just a brief moment of them standing there--they weren't plugged into any action scenes like AI is capable of doing these days. I agree that most of the special effects were terrible. I was pleased that Michael Keaton's role was bigger than I thought it was going to be. I loved the actress who played Kara. *sigh* I don't know what to say about Ezra Miller. *I liked older, more serious, and socially awkward Barry. Younger Barry, not so much. Ezra needs help and I hope they get it. And no, I don't think that excuses their crimes. I don't think they should be hired again until they can prove that they've gotten that help and shown that they've changed for the better because of it. I don't know if Grant Gustin could play the part like Ezra did. He's good, but his Flash, from what I can remember, was always more calm confident than the one in the movies. Maybe he could pull off that awkwardness, but I can't picture it. *The one special effect that I think they pulled off fairly well (but not perfectly) was the dual parts.

They kind of tackled that. She was talking to, I think Bailey, about Herb's behavior and Bailey told her to call his bluff and say yes. She did and Herb was thrilled, but when he went to pick her up, he got so nervous and started feeling so guilty, that he bungled the whole thing. It was like @DXD526 said, the dog caught the car and didn't know what to do with it.

Yeah, they did do a pretty good job with a lot of issues, considering the time period that it was filmed. I guess it's Herb and his treatment of Jennifer that wasn't handled quite as well by today's standards. Back then, I guess you could say that the way Jennifer was written and they way Loni Anderson played her was their way of addressing it and a big reason that it's still not as bothersome while watching it today. I don't know that a new sitcom with those two kinds of characters interacting that way would do as well today, though. I know that the main reason I didn't last more than a few episodes into season one of Abbott Elementary was the principal's treatment of the (substitute?) teacher. But, imo, she came off a bit more sexual than Herb and the teacher didn't take the principal head on like Jennifer did.

So, this is incredibly embarrassing, but I was foolish enough to believe that I'd actually found the entire season with the original music, and when I got it it was obviously a pirated set. I don't know where my head was-I should have known better. I do not condone pirating and felt really guilty about it when I saw what it was. This was years ago and ever since then, I've been very careful when purchasing things like that online. As for the music, the dialog and acting is fantastic, but there really was something special about the music they put in each scene. Whenever I saw it on reruns, I didn't think it was quite the same with different music, either.

I totally agree about Arrested Development (I've never watched IASIP), although, Michael and George Michael tried-they were the least offensive of the bunch. I've only seen a couple of episodes of All in the Family because I was way too young to watch it when it was on the air. @Kel Varnsen they don't show any growth in the Netflix seasons, either, iirc. Imo, the Netflix seasons aren't even worth watching, but I'm sure some people really liked them. I may be way off base adding this to the conversation, but I can't help but think of WKRP in Cincinnati. I wrote in the "Shows that don't stand up to the test of time" thread that by all accounts, it shouldn't work today, but I have the complete DVD set and when I showed my kids and their friends (all between 16 and 18 when I showed them and all very "woke" to use a term that I hate, but you know what I mean) they loved it. The last one to see a few episodes was a friend of my daughter's and he asked if he could borrow the set to watch more. Some episodes include great social commentary and, for it's time, seemed somewhat liberal, but it also includes sexual harassment, a drunk/pot head, a character who is clueless about his racist comments and Venus-he's a stereotype, too, but I can't find the right word for it (got to love aging, lol).....etc....Does it fall into the same category of Arrested Development?

@DrSpaceman73 the difficult season for me in Lucifer was when Charlotte was introduced. The last season wasn't great, but Charlotte set my teeth on edge.
-
Maybe. It's certainly wasn't as common in those times, but even today, there are places where it's really difficult for a man and a woman who aren't at least engaged to get an apartment together. I know because our daughter, who just graduated college in small city in Utah, had a hard time finding people who would rent to her and her male friend. At one point, they were even thinking of buying her an engagement ring. But, they finally found someone, who, with a lot of begging, agreed to rent to them. She had college friends in the same situation.

Milestone Moments: All The Celebrity Vitals

A friend of mine just happens to be staying that the hotel where she sought refuge. It's not a Ramada anymore, but they haven't forgotten what happened there. There's a large portrait of her at the front, where someone left a rose yesterday, they played Tina's music all day and many locals showed up for happy hour to honor her. She was one of those people who was so amazing that even at her age, and knowing she was ill, it was still a shock to hear that she'd died.- 4.3k replies

It's amusing to me the number of people I've heard saying (including both of my young adult kids) that they want to do a Barbie and Oppenheimer double feature on opening weekend. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to genres. I get being interested in both of them, but to the extent of wanting to see them both on opening day? Amazing. I'm still on the fence about Barbie. I think I need to see another trailer and hear some reviews first.

FilmNight: Movies you watched recently
Shannon L. replied to Rushmoras's topic in Everything Else About Movies
Something made me think of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy the other day (it probably came up on Amazon Prime as a new moving on their service), so I read the description and thought it sounded really good. I remember it being nominated for some awards, including Oscars, as well. I like the genre--spy movies and trying to find a mole inside of a government organization and it has a great cast. What a slog to get through it. It was so slow. I don't mind slow movies, but something about this one just wasn't doing it for me. I didn't feel a sense of intrigue and the reveal was anticlimactic. The characters weren't introduced in a way that made me care about any of them and Gary Oldman, whom I love, wasn't given much to work with-his character was so flat and even, with almost no emotion, that probably almost anyone could have played the role. Tom Hardy was the stand out, imo. There were also time jumps-some of which were easy to figure out, but there was another one where my husband and I couldn't figure out if we were watching present day or something from the past, until they made it obvious (which took a while). But, it was nominated for dozens of awards, including Gary Oldman for Best Actor, and it won a few, so what do I know? 🤷♀️ -
I'm glad that her best friend was so honest with her. He didn't carefully tiptoe around the fact that maybe this wasn't the best idea, he told her outright that she lost him and to stop it. In fact, iirc, even from the beginning, he warned her not to do anything stupid.

I honestly don't remember if I heard if first from a friend or if I read it in the book first. I had a friend who added (I doubt she made it up, she must have heard it somewhere): "We must, we must, we must increase our bust. The bigger the better, the tighter the sweater, the boys are depending on us!". It's a little icky now that I think about it, but it made us laugh back then. I saw this this afternoon. I read the book a few times when I was a kid and it's amazing how much of it came back to me when I saw the movie. From what I can remember of the book, they did a pretty good job making it into a movie. The performances were great-especially from Abby Ryder Fortson. I'm hope she does more, she's a great young actress. I loved her as Cassie in Ant-Man, too.

Ugh!: Actors, Hosts, And TV Personalities You Just Can't Stand
Shannon L. replied to UYI's topic in Everything Else TV
I have a friend whose son is a professional hair stylist for movies and tv. He's worked on episodes of Master Chef and says that yes, Gordon is very different in person. He says that he's really nice. You can glimpse some of that on his non-American shows, as well as Next Level Chef. But, he's famous as a chef and as someone who has several tv shows, so, sure, there's a always a bit of an ego showing through, but all in all, he's not the dick you see screaming at everyone on Hell's Kitchen. -

I have never in my life heard someone say "Oh please, Mr./Mrs. [whatever] was my dad/mom. Call me.....etc, etc." I hear it all the time on tv, but no one has ever said it to me.
