  1. I really liked that Babe was able to love, appreciate, and be a good friend to both Grace and Frankie, different as they are. If I remember correctly, the beach house was jointly owned by both families but Grace and Frankie made a point of using it at different times so they wouldn't run into each other, which is what allowed Babe to take those long walks with each of them separately. It was so nice to see Estelle Parsons again. Even though she was in Roseanne for so long, I still think of her as Blanche in Bonnie and Clyde.
  2. Please yes. The show is still doing well enough in the ratings -- usually second in its time slot behind Blue Bloods -- but I for one am losing interest in the same tired shtick from the sharks week after week. As it is I only watch the initial presentation and then fast-forward to the decision. Can't stand listening to them bicker any more. The producers could add an electronic whiteboard with background info -- sales figures, years in business, cost to manufacture, etc. If not, we're stuck with the sharks asking the same damned crap over and over. Maybe providing the basics would leave them room for more in-depth questions.
  3. I agree that I'm a bit of a fool for getting bent, and I realize it's small potatoes in the entirety of the cosmos, but I can't help feeling just a smidge resentful when strangers automatically lump me in with groups whose beliefs I vehemently disagree with. In my area that includes the assumption that I'm a conservative Republican and a Christian. It cuts both ways because I have replied Shabbat Shalom and Ramadan Kareem to one particular clerk who always tells me 'God Bless and Keep You' and he was shocked as hell. I'm not stupid enough to try Allahu Akbar, but a lot of people would consider that to be a verbal assault on them. I wish I could ease up and think of it as general, meaningless well wishes. This has really only become an issue with me since I moved to central Florida, but it honestly does sometimes feel like an attack on my beliefs, even if the intent is harmless. I'm sure most guys feel that their mainsplaining to me is done in a spirit of good will, too.
  4. Nancy needs to bury her head in a vat of cheese, the way she was going on about more Gorgonzola, even more Gorgonzola, drenched in Gorgonzola! She usually doesn't bother me, but shut up already. The judges can often forgive one mistake in a winning dish, especially if there weren't close runners-up, but that pile o' cocoa powder was egregious. That Jane even considered it should have been a disqualification. Does she not know what it is? Did she not bother to taste the stuff? She coated her cake with something inedible! (Which is also what I think about fondant, so maybe it's me.)
  5. Coyote's bio mother: So what kind of Christians are you? Sol: We're Jewish. Bio: Oh! The original ones!
  6. I'd be pleased if next season reduced Sol and Robert to occasional appearances and focused more on the kids. I don't know if the actress playing Mallory was unavailable this season, but they sure shoved her into unseen bed rest for most of the season. I'd like to see more of Bud and Coyote, too, and explore all the fractured mother/child relationships.
  7. One small quibble is that I would have preferred that Frankie be portrayed as a better artist. I thought those horrible tacky paintings diminished her.
  8. That too! Dr. Jeff said he didn't want to belabor the issue with the owners because they were so upset already, but I hoped they, as well as any errant viewers, learned a lesson. If the health of the poor animal doesn't factor in for them, they should at least consider the financial consequences. Speaking of money, Dogtown featured that Rottweiler mix (I think?) that was given up by the owners because they couldn't afford treatment for her chronic skin disease. I think some people who impulsively get a pet don't fully appreciate how expensive it can be to maintain and provide care for them. Luckily this particular dog saw a lot of improvement just from the climate change to the dry air of Utah.
  9. I mean ... it's illegal to help someone commit suicide, so the nonchalant dismissal of that aspect bothered me. Otherwise I thought both sides of the argument were each well represented by Grace and Frankie. I liked that Frankie stood firm in her hurt feelings and hadn't just hand-waved away Grace's drunken insults.
  10. Re Dr. Chris and Toby the cat with recurring tick paralysis -- the owners need to stop letting him go outside! Cheese, people. No follow-up on Wayne the swan, but hopefully his condition improved with the people who were fostering him. Poor bird still looked pretty close to death. Dr. Jeff saw Zoe the dog with the broken leg and I liked that they showed the follow-up where she had developed an infection under the cast. These shows sometimes make it seem like all animals are completely cured after one visit.
  11. Ha! You made me look! Was it the Flex Mex one?
  12. My sister and I treated ourselves to a nice non-Mothers lunch out on Saturday and I haven't left the house today. I try to emulate @Harrie and take holiday well-wishers with good cheer, but that trifling non-issue gets under my skin far more than it should, especially at Christmas. You'll find me sitting in the negativity corner with @DisneyBoy. It's also true that cashiers, clerks, servers and other public-facing employees are required to spout whatever their corporate bosses tell them to, so I really need to stop resenting them personally.
  13. More puzzlement from me about the frosting is that depending on the type, some boxed/packet frostings (just add water) have no oils, although they might have egg whites. I probably haven't made a cake since the 70s but I think the premixed icing in a can has an off taste. If I'm short-cutting, I'd still prefer the stuff that comes in a box. And honestly, an online search on vegan frosting recipes has over 500K results. I may be way off, but my assumption it that the majority of vegans tend to cook from scratch so there aren't any surprises.
  14. Now that I think about it, what was really cool about Lemonade is that the couchies get screeners to watch early, so the video hadn't been released yet. The couchies' awesome range of reactions were solely theirs without being filtered through the avalanche of news and online commentary that came later.
  15. I enjoyed the silliness of the sketch with the football players/athletes* watching "regular" guys and making fantasy team bets/name calling them. (Perhaps not the least because it wasn't about sex or romantic relationships or Amy's looks.) The same can't be said of the nanny staffing agency bit, but I did laugh at the escalating stakes and that in the end, the beleaguered owner could not find anyone or anything that men wouldn't fuck. * I assume? The only one I recognized was Strahan.
  16. Yeah, what was the point of that? That Miss Piercings was talented in her own way and in the end didn't need the conservative business world? Okay, got it. Be an excellent bartender then. But who exactly was holding her dog hostage in order to force her to participate in the program in the first place? While I didn't appreciate her wasting the charity's time and resources, I also didn't like that Grace seemingly gave up on the idea of mentoring after that one experience. She could use some other interests in life. (Although if her only plan was to funnel everyone to her old company, that's obviously not sustainable.) Even though I'm enjoying the funny barbs everyone gets off at Brianna's expense at work, the place comes off as so unprofessional that I have to willfully let it not bother me.
  17. If there are to be no further seasons, I'd at least hope for a final episode/movie to tie up some loose ends -- like Phryne and Jack finally getting together for something other than a kiss!
  18. Frankie made me look up no-kill mosquito traps. No such thing. ;)
  19. I really like how the show continues to touch on some of the issues of aging like driving restrictions, new hips, and neuropathy socks. Marta Kaufman is 58, so I assume brings at least some personal experiences to bear. Grace's former friends were caricatures but it was nice to see Swoosie Kurtz and Marsha Mason.
  20. A quick drive-by thanks to say I love You Tube, especially the "related" videos that can suck me down some heretofore unknown rabbit hole for an hour. The things I've learned!
  21. Ha! Now I'm imagining how that conversation went. :) My peeve about body parts/fluids/functions is phlegm. Don't mind anything else (and am kind of fascinated by pus) but if anyone hocks a loogie around me, I'm done. (The human psyche is so weird, I swear.) I'm also annoyed at my local CVS who decided they're no longer going to be open 24 hours. Screw that! The best part of the day for shopping is between 1-5 am. Wal-Mart had better not get any ideas. They're about 2 miles farther away from me and, okay, their huge parking lot can be a little scary in the middle of the night, but I still prefer that to dealing with crowds.
  22. I suppose we were to assume that the cracker box under the bed was within Frankie's reach when she was inverted, but it sure didn't look that way from the camera angles. I also didn't believe the ankle clasps would get stuck and not be able to unlock in the first place, so realism went out the window in favor of a bit of physical comedy and more of the "Sol inhabits Frankie's head" anvils. It was sweet that Grace and Frankie ended up on the couch using the ottoman together. Their relationship is so much more interesting and important to me than Sol and Robert's. I mean, duh, that's the point of the show, but I'm not sure I'm supposed to dismiss/discount the men as much as I do.
  23. I'm not arguing against this, but I always figured Brianna learned how to be an aggressive business executive from Grace. We only saw her briefly as the president of her company before she retired, but she came off as pretty ruthless to me. Normally I would advise that Sol not confess his infidelity because doing so would be needlessly cruel to Robert. And as @AuntieMame suggested, being quiet about it would be punishment for Sol himself, and he's the one who transgressed. However, it has to come out now that all the kids know because sure as shit none of them (except maybe Bud) can keep a secret. Sol is also too guilt-ridden and self-involved not to unburden himself. One thing that felt a little off was Robert being so fond of/emotional about Bud and Coyote. I don't remember either of the dads being particularly close to the other one's kids. In addition to the previouslys, the wiki episode summaries for season one are a brief refresher.
  24. As opposed to a group of time travelers in real life? ;)
  25. That comment from someone with your username made me snort laugh. :)
