  1. You're a generous, thoughtful and loving daughter @forumfish, and that makes me smile.
  2. How are everyone's expectations holding up as the new shows roll out? Reviewing my own comments, I liked This Is Us more than I thought I would and gave Designated Survivor a chance and enjoyed that as well.
  3. I think Trevor may watch/browse/skim relevant items more than other hosts because he doesn't have the deeper cultural awareness that someone who's lived here all his life might. Just a guess.
  4. Silver lining -- maybe after this Nick realizes some truths about himself: He needs a modicum of self-awareness about his own personality, needs, and goals in life He's not the marrying type Or the "sharing a house with someone" type Or the "talking to someone" type Dogs are cool, Nick! Enjoy them and mazel tov. I hope he retreats to his house in peace, solitude, and having everything his own way. I mean that sincerely because I'm pretty much the same.* I hope he comes to grips with that about himself, sticks to hot, meaningless sexual encounters, and never tries to establish a serious romantic relationship again. It's not for you, dude. * I like a man in my life but not in my house.
  5. Aw, bless your kind heart. A person who is unable to find any words to describe a pineapple has gone way past "rather" dumb.
  6. I'm interested to hear everyone's updates on the new Fall shows! I gave Kevin James' sitcom a try, but nah. It's not actively bad, but it is satisfied to be the same old setup/joke family comedy we've seen for the last 30 years. Speechless isn't going to cut it for me, either. Don't care to spend time with Minnie Driver's over-the-top mom.
  7. Whoa. Five seasons of a show I've never heard of? So.Much.TV. I added it to my Netflix queue on your recommendations. :)
  8. As long as Netflix and Hulu offer the opportunity to start and stop service with no penalty, and if they continue releasing all series episodes at once, I can easily watch any buzzy original content for $8.99 and then just shut my subscription off until the next time. I'd be thrilled if Netflix and others simply added to their, IMO, somewhat meager catalog of older shows. There are lots of series I'd like to catch up on that aren't included on any of the streaming services, or that are only available for an additional fee.
  9. Is there such a thing as noxiously average? If not, credit Piper with its genesis. She doesn't bother me, neither is she interesting in any capacity. Can she at least try a new hair style or color once in her lifetime? There's so much ultra twisty, gritty stuff out there now that "a fast-paced, grown-up mystery show with a hint of blandness" may hit the please-don't-make-me-think-right-now spot.
  10. Filed under The Inexplicable: To this day, my sister sews shoulder pads into her sweaters and jackets. WE CAN ALL CLEARLY SEE THEIR OUTLINE, SUE!
  11. It would have been more interesting to me if they had shown more realistic scenarios such as the SS following him to the toilet or not allowing him to go outside on the balcony and have a private conversation with his wife. The main thrust of this episode* was Tom being buffeted and for us to see/judge how he's able to process and cope with the unthinkable, so let's see the fullest extent of it. * And I assume the series.
  12. Made me look! Made me smile. They may be big baddies subsuming our lives over there, but they do a nice job on whimsy.
  13. That bugged me. Maybe Kal's speechwriter character would have known, but everyone else in the general vicinity just randomly being in the loop was stupid. I get gossip but that particular fact would not have been bandied about. Would the HR department at anyone's job let it be known in advance that someone was being demoted? It was almost as ridiculous as Tom's fucking sweatshirt and jeans and that his wife accompanied him to a critical business assignment like they thought it was a sleepover for 13 year olds. During the home scene when the son explained his plans for the night, I really wanted Tom or Jessica to reply that the friend could come over to their house to lay down tracks or whatever lie it was. If it was important to them that Leo watch his sister, then enforce that. Jeez. According to the Internet, cabinet secretaries do not have Secret Service protection, but who knows how far from the truth the show will be straying. Pretty far already. I'm not familiar with Maggie Q but the actress made no real impression on me, good or bad. Tom became quite firm and "presidential" when speaking to the Ambassador. I assume a good part of the show will be his personal learning curve/growth arc, but I thought he did well. Didn't let the General or anyone else browbeat him into doing something he didn't think was wise.
  14. This article from Rolling Stone takes exception to the TV show's conclusions. 3 Big Ways 'The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey' Got It Wrong
  15. If Patsy and John did find JonBenet dead at Burke's hand, why not stop and call an attorney at that point for advice? They can't be expected to know the CO statutes for accidental manslaughter or juvenile crimes. These are two intelligent and educated people but almost none of their actions and statements as reported or witnessed, either before, after or to this day make sense to me. It's a Freudian's dream family, isn't it? Both parents (allegedly) taking anti-depressants, a son with social and behavioral issues, the mother an attention-seeker overly concerned with outward appearances and status, the father emotionally shut down and going along to get along, and a very young daughter on the tacky pageant circuit.
  16. I think they're both awful. But it different ways that never should have been matched. ;)
  17. It would be fun for Fallon to audition for The Voice as part of a comedy bit!
  18. It's too bad he had to be drunk and angry to finally spit it out, but being honest about his true feelings towards Sonia is the first thing Nick has done that I approved of.
  19. During the Spill/Fill your guts segment, Corden chose truth for one question and said he felt he was a better singer than Fallon. I realize he's probably had professional training and has been in musicals, etc., but from what I've seen of him on the show/in the car, his voice is thin and he's off key quite a bit. I think Fallon is a much better natural singer. Anyway, it seems to be a minor theme among last night hosts, because Colbert also believes his vocal skills are much more nuanced than they are.
  20. Here's Kimmel's joke about that. I could never say no to squash. :)
  21. Enough already with Brad and Angelina and Jennifer. Jesus Christ on a cross. I don't particularly follow celebrity entertainment news so am only aware of events when they've reached RED LEVEL alert status via my homepage newsfeed headlines, talk show monologues, or are discussed here. Even so, I can't escape Brad and Angelia and, invariably, Jennifer even though their breakup was a fucking decade ago. IT'S SUPER ANNOYING. Also? There have now been more than 75 years worth of references to "ding dong [X] is dead" and "someone, something, something, oh my" and CAN WE PLEASE RETIRE those goddamned phrases?
  22. Plus for me, I guess, given the tone of the article: I haven't seen Keifer in anything since Stand By Me and Flatliners. Minus: That was on purpose because Keifer is one of those actors who annoys me for no good reason. I'm intrigued enough by the concept that I'll give it a shot, even though it doesn't sound like it's carried out with any originality or verve. Reviews have been sort of limply positive.
  23. I didn't. Trump's team is likely to just discard any responses that don't come from obvious supporters.
  24. My beef with the delivery is that there was no reason not to make it more believable and still appropriate to the time. A friend had triplets in 1976 and that shit was planned, with at least 10 people in the OR, a neonatal doctor and nurse assigned for each baby, etc. I did not respond well to the McRaney character and his homespun expositional hokiness, but one of the babies could have been stillborn even without pretending that a vaginal delivery for triplets was the norm. It took me out of the show entirely. Aaaaanyway. I'm asking seriously, but what scenes made people sniffy? Pretty much every emotion I have comes out in tears, but I was dry as a desert through this. I saw and wondered about the closed-captioning, too, but removing a slur like "bull dyke" was obviously the wise move.
