  1. I have no problem with Tito leaving, but Nikki's justification for bad work of "I didn't know. I'm still learning" does not an Ink Master make. At least Nunez called her out during deliberations for her unearned mouthiness. Really nice work on the amputation although seeing that guy writhe in agony was upsetting. Pain tolerances differ and all, but that tender skin seemed like it would really hurt. Good for Kelly for turning around the canvas/tattoo that nobody wanted; even the judges thought it was the most difficult. But honestly, after Kelly re-imagined it and created the design, anyone could have tattooed it fairly well. The canvas wanted everything, but Kelly's artistry was being able to distill that so it represented the essence or spirit of the request.
  2. I guess the show wanted it to seem URGENT!, but as someone who has it, rest assured that the treatment for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, if medications don't work long term, is cardiac ablation done via catheter. It's not even a "surgery" per se; it's a "procedure." Anyhoo, I thought this might work as a 30 minute sitcom but stretching it to an hour is dubious. It didn't offend me or anything, but neither was I rapt. I'm grateful that tastes differ and there's a lid for every romantic pot, etc., but the lead male's looks are kind of dull to me. But nobody's making me date him and I don't begrudge Evie her infatuation.
  3. It was funny that Sandra kept eating one of the offerings: "And now she's going for cupcake #2!" I didn't watch her Food Network show and haven't seen her on anything else that I recall, but I understand now where all the jokes about her being drunk come from. I like Damiano fine. The judges don't bother me although poor Carla seems like she might burst a blood vessel straining to insert some lightness and humor into the proceedings.
  4. It did! And yet the family is still basically unconcernedly ambling around until one of the children is physically yanked into the sky. And even then, they show only a middling level of concern, or even a basic understanding that the world has changed. Has Anne Heche genuinely forgotten how to act? I'm not going out on much of a limb here to say that this will be an early cancellation in the U.S., if not Canada. User reviews on IMDB are at at 5.1, which is about as low as it gets over there.
  5. When they came back after commercial, Seth acknowledged that they forgot the sauce. I thought he and Martha were cute together and the sample recipes she made looked great. I didn't actually buy the book but checked it out on Amazon before coming to my senses and just looking up some recipes online.
  6. I sat through far less of it, but there's a reason remote pieces are pre-recorded. Two hours edited down to a few funny minutes. Has it simply been too long since Stephen did improv for a living? Because he's not very good at it here.
  7. I don't even cook but somehow know more than cooking show contestants: Don't ever use rosewater or truffle oil!
  8. I'm not familiar with Atwell but liked the character of Hayes well enough, although I'm not really buying her as a brilliant troublemaker. She's too old to still be acting out her teenage rebellion. The show was predictable overall but I don't necessarily mind that. The cast is the biggest sticking point for me since I thought the characters were a collection of tics rather than people. All the actors rushed their lines out in one gulp, which was regrettable. It's early days though, and I'll stick with the show in hopes that things start to jell into a more natural groove. Did I miss an explanation of where Hayes' father is? Deceased?
  9. It would have been more intriguing if Spector was Gibson's physical type, since the show is playing up how they each use the opposite sex for their own gratification. I could see someone like David Leon bringing more nuance to the part than Dornan.
  10. Those workers in the BunkerLab need to get some damned paperweights.
  11. At least the police/Gibson are being bought to account for some of their piss poor decisions. I'm glad to see that because it means my previous shouting at the TV was perfectly reasonable. Did Katie deliberately set her laptop touchpad to function so that swiping up moves the page down? That was seriously bugging me. At least Sally Ann was using the down arrow to scroll like a normal person. Thanks to the producers for Katie's thoughtful, languid nose ring scene. Irrelevant, atmospheric moodiness is just what I look for in my crime dramas.
  12. I'm a musical Philistine, but the vaunted soundtrack that's getting so much critical and viewer respect just gives me a headache. I've muted a lot of it and used closed-captioning instead.
  13. First Cady is upset and appalled that people on the res now trust her because she shot a white guy, then suddenly she's honored and touched about the adoption ceremony, even though it's being offered for the same "you're a warrior now" reason.
  14. Incredibly! The first hospital ER scene took 15 damned minutes. Am I supposed to be riveted by whether or not nurse X is able to insert a breathing tube? "I see the cords!' Casualty: Belfast, indeed. I have no strong feelings about Gillian Andersen one way or the other, but her encased-in-cotton-wool acting choices in this are very odd. Speak up! Allow your face to move!
  15. Right!? That guy cuts corners and bends the law with the best of them, but somehow still believes he's the only upright man in town. I watch because of the secondary cast and "life on the res" moments. Walt and Vic just get in the way of that. ;) Also, the fight between Walt and Henry at the bar was not believably acted or choreographed. Just bad.

    U.K. TV

I caught part of a show yesterday called One Man and His Dog about sheepdog trials that had been on the air since 1976. It was the most British thing ever; each trial had to be completed in 15 minutes, so there was basically a lot of whistling and shouting at dogs by their handlers and five sheep being herded hither and yon. I watched two contestants before tapping out.
  17. I'm not going to be fussed to request a new forum, but the new Worst Bakers in America spin-off is even more insulting than the original flavor, which is saying something. They even recycled two of the more "outrageous" contestants from previous Worst Cooks seasons. A person who deliberately can't be bothered to follow a recipe isn't someone I can take seriously. The only tiny saving grace was watching Lorraine Pascale take the tiniest tasting bites possible. Horrible, horrible show!
  18. It would be nice if residential building standards mandated some damned soundproofing between apartment units -- ceilings and walls. The owner above me in a previous condo had tile floors throughout and, even though she was quite a petite person, had a very heavy walk. I knew where she was in her apartment at every moment, including showering and flushing the toilet. My retirement community in central Florida frowns on the word snowbird and would please like us to refer to them as seasonal residents. Whatever, the population still doubles for half the year.
  19. From the episode thread: It would be interesting to hear how viewers shake out along series lines. I like DD and JJ but had to force myself to finish this one. They are very different in tone, and it seems reasonable that people who like "gritty dramas with sociopolitical themes" might not respond as well to "superhero," and vice versa. (Although JJ is kind of an amalgam of both.)
  20. Ah, thanks. Then I wouldn't mind seeing him being brought low and losing the lawsuit but ... I don't want that ass Barlow to "win" either. Dilemma! Walt is self-sabotaging and can't be bothered to work with or help his own attorney, plus I hold a grudge for how he treats people.
  21. Good lord. I thought this was the final season. It's never been a favorite show of mine although I've watched the whole thing, but it actually managed to draw me in over the last 2-3 episodes and I was on the edge of my seat to know how everything would be resolved. Then a damned cliffhanger! My hopes for the future are: - Vic gets together with Travis and rebuffs Walt (because they clearly wanted us to see him deciding to choose her). - Henry is saved (of course!) and he and Walt patch up their friendship. - Cady becomes relevant or interesting in some way. - Ferg get the credit and recognition at work that he deserves. - Walt combs his hair and shaves once in a while. - A new overarching mystery other than Nighthorse vs Malachi. - I wouldn't mind if Walt did retire, although not sure how the show would continue. And just to be contrary? I hope the new golf course resort is built, because it's not Walt's decision to make, or for him to lay some kind of sacred, personal claim to the land. I'm tired of Walt and his self-centered, selfish righteousness, if that wasn't obvious.
  22. Right? Here's how weird I am: Even though I'm not in the office, I still save work to do on the weekends "when it's quiet." Apologies if I've whinged about this before, but I have an auditory processing disorder that makes it more difficult to concentrate when there's competing noise. Maybe that's something others can follow up on and, if diagnosed, request ADA compliance at work.
  23. Same reason strangers tell you what you should/shouldn't do about any number of things: while pregnant, raising your children, what to wear, say, and how to act. It's smug know-it-all-itis, although the advice-givers no doubt have convinced themselves that they're being helpful.
  24. Cage's eulogy was pretty weak tea. The hokey speechifying is undercutting the actors.
