Season One Talk: FFwSB
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Full Frontal With Samantha Bee
In a bit of Monday synchronicity, Trevor Noah started the "Daily Show Crapcatcher Award" for journalists who call out bullshit. First recipients: George Stephanopoulos and Jake Tapper! -
It was nice that the other support group members were quick to offer consolation: "The calculations were difficult. It's a leap year." It's reasonable IRL, but when group members are missing (like Margaret this time), I spend my time wondering where they are. I hope the earth aliens don't start exacting vengeance. Really, Bono! Get it together. Looking forward to Father Doug joining Star Crossed.

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
Goodness. That guy Stephen called The Explainer was an incoherent mess. -
Leah is a pretty specific type for casting purposes (the brash friend with zingers), but I hope she continues to get work. I've always liked her as an actor, limited range notwithstanding. I watched her reality show and she seems to provide some financial support for her extended family as well. I read that some former Scientologists still follow the teachings on their own even though they disagree with the church leaders. Audit each other? I don't know. It doesn't seem like Leah is doing that, but she does still seem to think that the religion itself has good things to offer.

It's not like the Dragonfly isn't a horror show of trite, overstuffed, over-wallpapered shabby chic awfulness. Who do you think Rory learned it from? The entire town elevates and coddles Lorelai, polishing her snowflake crown. The only people who don't are her parents, therefore much of her emotional life consists of punishing them for it. Do not look behind the curtain of the great and powerful Palladinos. It still gripes me that ASP acted all aggrieved because she felt fans were overly focused on Rory's love life when she's the one who wrote Rory that way! It was one boyfriend after another for 6 seasons. I hope the troubadour and his sister are single because every other character has been matched up. Their lives mean nothing otherwise. Romance uber alles.

It was pretty much eight hours of wheel-spinning for me, with droning narration. I didn't find Cropsey compelling so already had low expectations.

We should all order the free trial and cancel right afterwards. -
S08.E10: Inboard Technology, Nomiku, Nootrobox, Pet Plate
zxy556575 replied to yeswedo's topic in Shark Tank
Now I'm just piling on, but what a bunch of horrible products. I mean ... you can buy an electric Razor type scooter for around $200, which at least gives you something to steer with and more stability. Electric mopeds start as low as $400, but of course those need to be parked. Even my local chain grocery store now has a refrigerated case in the pet food aisle that holds raw food. It's not hard to find. I suppose PetPlate is useful if someone wants to boast that they spend more on pet food than anyone else, and with the most amount of waste. See also: chocolate and candy-covered coffee beans, caffeinated mints, gum, and jellies. -
S02.E01: Cake Week / S02.E02: Cookie Week
zxy556575 replied to Athena's topic in The Great American Baking Show
They flew everyone to England? Good grief. There are plenty of open grassy fields in the U.S. and air conditioning is available for tents. Producers of U.S. shows are not willing to film for months in order to let the contestants return home during the week, which means forced seclusion and shooting 10+ hours a day. That atmosphere is not really conducive to relaxed and friendly contestants. -
S01.E04: Your Mama Had a Hard Night

Everyone changes as they age, yadda yadda, but I couldn't see Letty and Tiffany as ever having been tight. -
This also leaves us open for the finale judging to include arguments about what the brief was and if it was followed, instead of judging the artwork. The debates on whether or not a specific piece is "finished" are bad enough.

Brain Bleed: The Shows We Hate & The Reasons We Hate Them
zxy556575 replied to SPLAIN's topic in Everything Else TV
Me, too. The Magicians looks like it's going to be more action-driven now. The Expanse does not, so it's straightforward masochism on my part to try again. -
Ah, could be. Maybe I was hallucinating right along with Phillip.

Thanks for posting, @Irishmaple. I watch online and sometimes forget about new episodes until this forum comes up bold on my home page. :) The literal bloodbath after Marcy's surgery was ridiculous. Why was she even in the tub? She only cut into her skin 1/4 of an inch. I agree with all your points on the stupidity. Anyway. What are we to make of the Ian Tracey character turning out to be a Traveler? Why didn't he say something before this?

She's 52! She looks the same to me as she did in Larry Sanders. It was fun seeing her and MIB enjoying each other. I got a free trial for SEESO to watch her special. It was good, but I'm predisposed to like her and her tangents.

S01.E01: Disconnection
zxy556575 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
I'm curious about Amy Scobee's remark that she wanted/tried to leave Scientology the right way, and wonder what that entails. I assume the process is different for higher-ups and Sea Org members than regular parishioners. -
The Real O'Neals - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Real O'Neals
Shannon is preternaturally cunning, but my mind refused to budge past "she wanted them to talk out their differences." Also, Bebe looked so different without Shannon's glasses on! I liked Jodi getting her own B-plot and the addition of Dwayne. I enjoy Kenny and his coming of (gay) age story, but the rest of the cast is so delightful that I don't mind the focus starting to shift more towards them and the family as a whole. It's nice that Jimmy was shown to be competent at something. -
TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
Trevor did a segment on her earlier this year when he first found out about her. He was intrigued by someone so young building such a huge (and hateful) platform. The statistics for "watching" are in dispute but her videos are supposedly seen by millions of people, except because of Facebook's targeted content, many liberals have never heard of her. -
I was grateful they at least cut away and didn't show the torture. So Ben/Aaron has been deep undercover for a few years? I just wish his wife and the missing woman didn't look so much alike. I thought the production values and set design were well done and believable enough for 58 years from now (except for the wardrobes being a little too "now"). The rich cougar forcing a young Red Zone man to have facial surgery was, yes, creepy, but all I could think was that she should have picked someone taller. It's a thriller and was watchable as such. Several reviews have called it derivative and unoriginal, but it's telling a certain type of story and I don't fault it for that. The timely jabs about Canada building a wall and the world divided into haves and have-nots made me, as intended, wince a little. The corporate jockeying and dirty tricks to get the open position on the 40th floor should be interesting. I'm watching Leah Remini's anti-Scientology show and was struck by the similarities, inasmuch as people in positions of authority can have their lives pulled out from under them in an instant. So many imagined futures are full of uncertainty and eggshell-walking. I had to look up who was playing the so-familiar looking president of Spiga -- ah, it's Julia Ormond. The cast seems to have more than the usual number of British, Canadian and Australian actors.

I FF as well. The fake panting and moaning gets to me and I feel embarrassed for the actors. If it's a comedy with deliberately awkward sex, I'll watch that. ;)

TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
The interactions between Trevor and Roy have seriously become one of my top 5 TV things: "You riding that Apartheid train harder than Mandela." "Siri thinks all Black fingerprints are the same." "Ricky got murdered by a dude in a Hyundai!" My only disappointment was Roy calling him Trevor instead of African. -
Late Night With Seth Meyers - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Words's topic in Late Night With Seth Meyers
The last I checked, Seth's ratings have remained fairly static but I hope he gets a boost from some of these positive reviews. What I think deserves mention is that NBC has allowed him to do this, seemingly with little or no interference. I've become so reliant on Seth that my appreciation goes out to NBC. I dropped them an email to say that. -
S01.E01: Disconnection
zxy556575 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
It's become a cliche to say that Leah is brash, but ... she really is. She's loud-mouthed and pushy to the extent that it got her fired from The Talk. It's easy to believe she was being -- as others saw it -- disruptive at the wedding ceremony and reception. Her personality can be a turn-off but I think her intentions in this are pure. Spoiler for material in Leah's book: For anyone who might not be aware, the anti-Scientology website The Bunker has interesting articles and news. I'm unwilling to mortgage my house beyond what it's worth and give that money to Scientology! I've been thinking about disconnection, which is devastating for the affected, but there are other religions that also practice shunning. Not that that makes it any more acceptable, but to my mind it's far from the worst thing Scientology does.
