S06.E10: Kitchen Safe, Off the Cob, Magic Cook, Earth-Log
zxy556575 replied to yeswedo's topic in Shark Tank
They showed this episode on The People's Couch* last night and the prevailing opinion? Kevin was being a dick but people still didn't grok the Kitchen Safe. * A Bravo program whereby viewers watch other people watching TV. -
Season One Episode Talk

I have no clue about the technicalities, but that pie with the Nilla Wafers looked so dry and dusty to me. A bland and chalky Nilla Wafer is the last thing I'd want to waste any of my daily caloric allotment on. Even as a sweets-loving kids, I was all, "Really. People eat these? Nah." Oreos or ginger snaps, sure. -

As is stating a particular item is your specialty and a sure winner, right, Southern bourbon pecan pie? ...and Dante takes it a step further by declaring himself the best holiday baker even as the door hits him on the way out. The blond judge sure is in love with David. Winky, winky! -

Tortilla chips can be made partially or wholly from wheat flour and can be subject to cross-contamination during manufacture, so the claim didn't register as objectionable with me. I agree about the "No Cholesterol" labels, too, although those seem to have morphed into "Fat Free!" or "No Trans Fats!" these days, especially on some brands of candy, Hey, it's all they got, nutritionally. -

When Woodman patronizingly told the sweet corn guy to "stick with it", Cuban's exasperated, reared-back, hands-in-the-air reaction was pretty funny. (If the shot was massaged in editing and didn't even occur when it was shown, don't tell me.) The photo in the recap of the EarthLogs presentation made me wonder how much time it takes for the set to be changed between presentations. That particular one was fairly elaborate, with all the rocks around a fake fire pit and whatnot. The stuff that would take you and me 20 minutes to carry in and arrange probably takes a film crew two hours. (This proclamation courtesy of my one experience 39 years ago as an extra in a scene of All the President's Men. You're welcome.) -
In a first for me, I thought the body-hating 50s bride looked fabulous in all three new dresses and the borrowed one. That final three-panel shot of the new gowns showed her as classic (Grace Kelly), cute (Doris Day) and sultry (Jayne Mansfield). I personally liked the middle Doris look, but the one she chose gave her a fabulous hour glass shape and I'm glad she felt so happy and attractive in it. Also, I could definitely see her in 30 years desperately wanting her daughter to wear the dress because of the feeling it gave her and how much she shimmered in it. I had the opposite reaction to the blond bride who chose the dress with the slit and thought so highly of herself -- even though she had the very slim figure that supposedly shows off clothes the best, I didn't think any of the dresses looked that good on her. They were all weirdly boxy around the waist. I did enjoy her mother's comment that she wasn't a young bride any more, because true.

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion

With any luck, their weddings are over by that point, but yes. Some brides would second guess if a passing dog looked at them and barked. -

I read the first comment and my brain brought up a picture of the EarthLog guy ... "Huh. There's a lid for every pot, I guess." Then "douchebag" set me straight. And yes, he seriously needed to shutty. -

Ooh, a shippable food item! I can never resist tasting things (given a reasonable enough price and as long as it isn't made from bugs), so I went for some chips. They're are out of stock on Amazon, so missed opportunity there. After some trouble using IE on the Cob site, I switched to a different browser and was able to place an order -- free shipping, at least. The ingredients list sweet corn third, which is interesting. Also, the guy went to Babson, which made me laugh. Of course he did! Food safe? I dunno. Piece of junk or not, if I'm craving some ice cream and it's on lockdown, I can always go to the danged store and buy more. Not to mention my kitchen and pantry are replete with other food. Not sure where making a grilled cheese sandwich lands in the trade-off between eating that vs a bowl of almond mocha fudge. I don't see it as much of a diet aid, or health aid, or anything else, really. -
S08.E10: The Champagne Reflection

If it's any help, the guys have all had their characters assassinated at one point or another as well. They suck at their jobs and would have been fired many times over in real life. They've been shown to be mopey, needy, demanding, selfish, crude, conniving, manipulative, thoughtless, preening, and infantile. Not greedy for money, though. I thought it was funny when we learned during the scavenger hunt that Bernadette had such a competitive streak (even though she never had been that way before while playing games -- "pew! pew!"). I also thought her post-marital tirades at Howard were someone justified and kind of amusing because he does indeed want a woman just like his screaming mother. But we haven't seen anyone except shrew Bernadette for a while now and it's too much. Hey writers? Her anger needs to be counterbalanced by her "trusting nature, coupled with her teeny-tiny body" once in a while in order for the joke to be funny. I've been watching some of last season's shows again and they're much funnier to me the second time. Don't know why. -

Speaking of cheap to produce, I'd be very interested to know how much the couchers get paid. It does take a chunk of time to watch 5-6 hours of TV, not to mention the weight gain from the snacks. I wouldn't do it for less than $5K/episode. (Well, ah. I hate being the center of attention or having people look at me so wouldn't even go to the casting call. But if I didn't mind those things? $5K for sure.) -
Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda - General Discussion

How old is Joe, anyway? I always thought early 70s or thereabout. The detective who said he knew Kenda from his first day on the job looked about 10 years younger than Joe, though. -

Well, poo. How bad are the ratings? I assumed things were okay since they renewed it and expanded it to an hour. They need to air it more often so new viewers can stumble on it and get sucked it. -
Oh, brother. Another example of the sharks being ignorant of widely-known products. They always ask about competitors even if we don't see it, so not sure why anyone invested. The squatty has zero to distinguish it from the others, including price. As much as Cuban and others disdain entrepreneurs they think are only on the show for publicity, I suspect sometimes the only reason they themselves invest is because of it -- the item gets a bump, they get their dough back and are out.

You know you're old when ... you can't remember how many times you've been married. It doesn't seem like those three even know each other very well. Teddi's eye rolling last night was worse than usual. Like she and her son's pet tiger have any room to judge. Joe Resnick also gave a funny side-eye when one of the daughters mentioned wanting Matthew McConaughey to wear her like a skin, or whatever it was. We learned that beef Wellington is just like Hot Pockets, so that's handy. I kind of love Rashawn and his hot pink jeans and t-shirt. Although I side with his dad on the "not a virgin" question. Rashawn: "She don’t look like the virgin-type." Princella: "What do a virgin look like? Glasses and nerdy or something?" Rashawn: "Yeah!" Princella: "Well, where are your glasses at?" -
Ha! That is fantastic. Does anyone know if Jaime Camil was known as a comedic actor before this? I hadn't warmed much to Michael but I did start feeling sad for him this episode. After his initial panic about the baby, he had sweetly come around to supporting and accepting whatever Jane wanted do do and I thought she should have cut him a little slack. She would likely have been hesitant herself if an ex of Michael's had suddenly shown up and dropped a baby off on him. (Well, Jane and Michael have been dating too long for that to happen, but just saying.)

So O'Leary and Cuban paid $150,000 in exchange for 80 percent of licensing rights ... wonder how much they'll get out of the sale. Since the show loves to crow about even middling successes, I'm sure we'll get an update.

I kind of don't think anyone should be dismissed. This is supposed to be a fun show, nobody wins anything, and the panelists are provided with their jokes, so why make a humiliating scene at the end with the red light? Or maybe I just dislike that (except for Nikki Glaser) it's so frequently the woman who gets packed off in ignominy.

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
I was left puzzled about the wedding dress model bride because the gown she bought was so ... generic. It wasn't offensive but also had nothing to recommend it, if you ask me. I thought the vow renewal bride looked really nice in the dress she choose. Sutton Foster? I agree with your friends about the napkin dress, but it's nice she listened to herself instead of a bunch of couch cat-callers. Have we seen any brides filmed in the hallway outside the dressing room this season? It seems everyone is in the big room now. I have a new favorite person on this show -- the bridesmaid who just wanted dress shopping to be over, already. "PICK SOMETHING so I can go home!" -
If I'm that concerned about the proper colonic evacuation technique, why can't I use any old step stool instead of Squatty Potty? I didn't get it. Thanks, cooksdelight. I wandered over to the Pipcorn site after the show, but I really only like white cheddar flavor so guess I don't need to overpay them.

"It's a compliment! You have thick brows." If I had 99 years, I never would have guessed that the B/S/E previews of a triple gasp, widened eyes, and shocked lean back was caused by a clip of nine-year-old Sarah screaming, "Whip it like a man!" I also loved their code word, "I like pussy." Lamont needs to blog how his cooking class went. Bed Dad: "There's Donna." Everyone: "It's OONA!!" I'm not familiar with the housewives shows, but that guy seemed pretty f'ing chill for someone going to prison for 8 years. -
I thought the same thing! I've heard cops on recordings who were more unnerved than she was at finding a dead person. I understand losing track of time to some extent, but for the husband not to notice that his wife was several hours late was odd Maybe I'm biased because I watch too many crime shows, but thank goodness for all the public surveillance cameras these days. The two in this story were solid -- fairly clear images and not too jumpy.

Wow, thanks for the tip. Not sure how I missed that entire series, but I just binged it. Some of the most amazing ink I've seen on TV, including from Ami James, Nunez, Kat Von D., etc.

I don't even understand the publicity aspect. What if the owners are contacted by 100 Scrooge McDuck types who want and can afford an expensive guard dog? How would the they be able to acquire and train that many animals at once? What if the buyers all wanted the $40K dogs, which I assume take longer to go through the program and need lots of individual attention? Hell, I can't see the company filling even 10 "orders" in less than six months. A certain percentage of dogs who start these training programs aren't cut out for it -- what happens to them? Military theme or not, it was ridiculous that this couple made it past initial screening.
