Small Talk: How Not To Get Caught Dead With Dirty Underwear
zxy556575 replied to tobeannounced's topic in Dateline
I just toss stuff in my underwear drawer without even folding, if that calms yours nerves any. ;) That damned Sleeping With the Enemy movie! How such a cheesy thing ever became such a pop culture touchstone ... I definitely have cat tendencies but when the most recent one died it kind of broke my spirit. And yes! What would happen to them after I'm murderized? Cooks, how did you get started as an extra? Were you living in LA at the time? -
Small Talk: How Not To Get Caught Dead With Dirty Underwear

Those poor kids. I kind of stopped watched Snapped because there's never any mystery or surprise, but a couple of those women were right up there. On another note, I recently discovered the detective TV series Life and have been really enjoying it. It ran from 2007-2009 and stars a cop who was wrongly convicted for murder. He's released after spending 12 years in prison, got a $50M settlement and has rejoined the LAPD. It's quirky with a lighthearted sort of tone. There's an overarching storyline about him trying to find the real murderer and also who framed him for it, but each ep is also a standalone procedural. What Netflix-y shows do you guys like that I should try? -

I assume most of us also read crime fiction/mysteries? :) -

I never got the knack of folding fitted sheets so you got me there but I'll put my pantry up against anyone's! Would some detective or crime scene tech open the door and infer anything from the neat stacks of canned goods and non-perishables, all in rows with labels aligned? Other than, "The victim sure didn't plan on running out of staples and shelf-stable microwave meals, that's for sure." Or if I was the murderer, "Hm, compulsive." Phonage: I have a prepaid cell that I leave turned off unless I need to make an outgoing call, which is maybe once every 2 weeks. Everyone knows to email me instead. No land line. I also never answer the door unless I'm expecting someone, which is never unless it's Internet repair or something. My sister lives across the street and comes in with her key if she feels like it. Marriages: Three, which is more than enough don't you think. I enjoy my own company, thanks. Myers-Briggs: ISFJ with an emphasis on the I. If there's a test or scale for Don't Give a Shit, I'm pegging the meter. I live in a huge retirement community with thousands of clubs and activities and participate in none of them. I'd rather chew glass than be out mingling in crowds all day. So add "loner" to my case file at the police department (although I prefer the term "Walden-esque"). No kids, no pets, no plants. Politics: pinko commie since the 60s. I've lived in various states and overseas during the last 3 decades and one thing that teaches a person is to pare the hell down. I've been in Florida for 5 years now and whenever a delivery person comes to my house they invariably say, "You just move in?" Because I have almost no furniture and nothing on the walls. My nightstand in the bedroom is a large plastic box. Again, can't be bothered. My murdered corpse would definitely not be discovered for a few days, so, detectives who find me, make of all that what you will! -
I was recently reading user reviews of a movie I watched and was surprised to see so many people mention the offensive, coarse language because frankly, a boatload of "fucks" hadn't even registered with me. I'm not prim or squeamish by any stretch, is what I'm saying. BUT. Has this show gotten super filthy lately? I didn't need to see Chris miming sucking his own pizza dick tonight.

Jimmy Kimmel Live - General Discussion

As Jimmy joked, the counseling session did take up a lot of time, but I was tickled. Poor Matt, waiting in the basement every night. I hope the building engineers finally figure out how to get WiFi down there to him! -
TDS 3.0: Season One Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
I was predisposed in Trevor's favor from the only time I've ever seen him, which was on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I thought he was delightfully bright, thoughtful, and funny on that and my impression carried over to TDS. I agree with those who thought it was one of the best late-night debuts, both for the content and the host. I'll likely continue to watch the same as I did for Jon -- always the opening desk segment, the correspondent pieces sometimes, and the guest only if I'm interested (which is infrequent) -
Chris was doing his best to get McBrayer's points up so I'm glad he let him stay FTW. The McBrayer giggle is right up there with Funches for me.

I thought the FBI knew everything but had left one fact out of their packets as part of the test? Otherwise the two people on each team could have spared 10 minutes to collude and make up something the other could "find out" about them. I liked the first half but the second wearied me a bit. I'm not necessarily against a season-long arc or two tracks but it make for a herky-jerky pilot. I would have preferred to wait until a couple of episodes in when we know the characters and their motivations better. Still, this was the best/most interesting for me in what's been a lackluster series of new shows so far.

The Show: Sad Pibbles and Happy Tails
zxy556575 replied to dbell1's topic in Pit Bulls And Parolees [V]
I really enjoy the adoption segments, particularly when they bring out a number of dogs to meet potential owners. It's interesting how different the interactions can be, and how specific dogs mesh (or now) with specific humans. -
The best thing about Signal Vault is that even if your card number is stolen, there's no proof it was scanned instead of being bought off the Internet as one of a lot of thousands. My sister had unauthorized charges on her card just yesterday and I was going to get her a Vault as a joke, but it turns out she already uses a shielded wallet and her husband uses the sleeve type protectors over his cards. I'm out of the scanner-banner superhero loop, I guess! I liked Ashton's comment that his baby wasn't a TV baby, thank you very much. I guess I haven't seen many of his movies and didn't watch his TV shows, but I've always had a favorable impression of him as a person from talk show appearances or news panels. He comes off as an intelligent and articulate adult. It seems like he and Demi gave their marriage a genuine shot and I don't remember any personal scandals or bad behavior from him. I also agree with his politics, so there's that.

The Show: Sad Pibbles and Happy Tails

Watching people chase after dogs is my least favorite part of the show, so having a good portion of this episode devoted to searching and chasing and fencing and making interminable kissy noises was disappointing. It's not like the outcome was ever in doubt. Nice to see Lopez settle in -- I also hope he settles down. -
This is a serious question because we probably did lots of appalling things in the 50s-60s, but when I was a teen sitter and the baby was old enough to hold its head up, we just propped it on the couch with some cushions and supported the bottle with a towel so it was at a good angle for suckage. Totally hands free! In any event, it seemed like a product with a short life span since babies can generally hold their own damned bottles by 6-10 months.

Gah, Keira. There are so few episodes left and I don't want to spend them being exasperated with her. Stop lying to and manipulating the only people in the present timeline who care about you. Since I think Kellogg has been the most consistently interesting/amusing person on the show throughout it's run, I'm still kind of pulling for him to take over the world. And sleep with Keira again!

I mean ... aren't most credit card companies changing to EMV chip cards now? They can't be read by scanners and can't be swiped. Inventor guy was nice but don't blast the name of your competitor on TV. I know I looked it up and compared those prices to his. For the motorized skates, I wonder if anyone asked about legality since some municipalities ban skateboarding, skates, or even Segways on the sidewalks. Poor Robert, so cheerfully game to try anything and being told by the dude that he's just too old. Young people hop right on and go!

I'm such a quitter. Barely made it past the opening scene with Rosewood's smugly loud proclamations to the cops about why the jumper was a suicide and, "You can let the escort go." Was I supposed to be charmed and/or impressed by that? Showboating ass, if you ask me. You are the weakest link. Goodbye!

Worst Cooks In America: Celebrity Edition
zxy556575 replied to Kromm's topic in Worst Cooks In America [V]
Aw, Dean! I hardly thought he was the worst and wanted him to learn how to cook for his son. They shouldn't eliminate the celebrities anyway since they're playing for charities -- do a total points things over the course of the show or something. -
Are the judges primarily focused on eventual career success or on winning the show? If it's the latter, choosing an underdog who's popular with viewers should be a plus.

Wasn't that Grant Bowler (Nolan from Defiance) as one of the future soldiers? I thought they called him Nolan as well.

And here I was mentally applauding the show for allowing the models to use their cover ups on the runway -- usually they make sure to include several shots of various butt cheeks walking away. That is, until we were treated to the Photographic Encyclopedia of Mons Veneris. Oy. Blake doesn't just find women's bodies to be icky, he evidently can't even abide the thought of lingerie fabric. "Ew, ew, ew." Compare that to a real designer like Mizrahi's love for (and frequent groping of) breasts. And we all know how Posen gets right up in there. All told, this group of designers is pretty woeful.

Jimmy Kimmel Live - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to David T. Cole's topic in Jimmy Kimmel Live
Watching the first episodes of Colbert reminded me again that I truly believe Kimmel is one of the best late night interviewers. Granted, he's been doing it for more than a decade now, but he actually listens to his guests, asks follow up questions and interjects jokes at appropriate moments. Miley Cyrus aside, he rarely stumbles or seems bored/disinterested. Even if I'm not particularly interested in a specific guest, I'll sometimes watch just to see what Jimmy brings to the interview. -
LSSC: Season One All Episodes Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
Did anyone watch the credits to see if any familiar Letterman names where there? I didn't see anything in IMDB but that doesn't have a full list. I can't help thinking the pacing and long overruns wouldn't have happened if Barbara Gaines was there. The nod to Biff was nice, but why not retain a stage manager with decades of experience, even in that very theater? I don't know shit so this is completely speculative, but I do wonder if any of the 150+ Letterman staffers were re-hired. Per IMDB, the four listed EPs who aren't Stephen and Jon are all from TCR. Makes sense, but also maybe an outside perspective would help. -
Grantchester in the Media: All the News You Can't Get from Mrs. Maguire
zxy556575 replied to M. Darcy's topic in Grantchester
Nice! I watched a show recently where James Norton played a rapist. It took me a while to even figure out how I knew him since that sullen and grisly character was so far from the kind and attractive do-gooder we see on this show. -
LSSC: Season One All Episodes Talk
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
I like Stephen fine but never watched TCR much and the chanting was annoying for me, too. But, FF. Overall, it felt to me like Stephen was acting or doing a Second City skit and not letting himself be natural. Letterman, Leno, and Carson all had their host personas, of course, but they felt genuine and organic to them, while Stephen's doesn't yet. I currently record Fallon, Kimmel, and Meyers and skip around if there's a guest I like or to watch some of the comedy bits, but I don't sit through any of them live and this won't be an exception. -
What would we like the Couchies to watch?
zxy556575 replied to madhacker's topic in The People's Couch [V]
Kimmel did a bit in his monologue this week mocking the trend of people watching other people play video games. I thought of us. :) I mentioned TPC to a friend last year and he still brings it up every so often to tease me. He honestly could not believe anyone would watch such a show. Hey, I assumed it was odd too, before I gave it a try. The millions of views for You Tube videos showing people's reactions to new foods or whatever must indicate some level of worldwide popularity. I will grant that 90% of my enjoyment depends on the personalities of and interactions between the couchers. The casting (couch!) is everything.
