The Show: Sad Pibbles and Happy Tails

Me too, and I really hope it's good news for him. Seems like the show used to focus more on the parolees when it first started but we don't see their stories as much now. I'm fine with it being mostly about the animals but there does seem to have been a shift. Thanks for the explanations about the lower adoption rates for pitbulls; makes sense. -
We seem to be top-heavy with people who think Tim was in the wrong and I'm honestly curious what the perception is from his supporters. Is the thinking that Swapnil deserved it, that Tim is human and allowed to be angry once in a while, or that his temper just wasn't the big damned deal everyone's making it out to be?

Snickers made me wonder how many dogs get adopted annually. You guys probably watched DogTown* when it aired, about the Best Friends no-kill shelter in Utah, and they seemed to place a lot more animals. Snickers was a cute (which seems to be a thing now), healthy, friendly, even-tempered dog. Why was nobody drawn to him all those years? * And I just now see that it was revived on the CW this year. I'll have to catch up! -
He also held himself up as the moral standard for decency and "family values".

Small Talk: How Not To Get Caught Dead With Dirty Underwear
zxy556575 replied to tobeannounced's topic in Dateline
When I watch crime shows with a (usually) child victim who was abused and never told anyone, it's understandable to me. When my sister and I were around 10 or 11, my stepfather used to get drunk and grab my sister and me to rub our (non) breasts or crotches, and we never said a word to our mother. Fortunately, that marriage was short-lived, because he also used to hit her. Which -- it was the early 60s -- she of course never reported to the police. Sigh. -
Sure, tastes vary, but I would suggest that a certain, specific level of "taste" is expected from PR designers, at least on the part of the judges. They want to see modern/forward/fresh/current styles. So when they trot out their "I question his/her taste" critique, they mean the person is forever giving them garments they consider -- rightly or not -- to be tired/ugly/mumsy/downmarket. They don't want to see something you can buy in the Women's Department at Sears (unless Sears is sponsoring!). They do kind of whiplash back and forth on whether hey want editorial vs commercial, but I don't think that's so much taste level as target consumer.

I compare this incident in my mind to Season 1 Tim, when he told Wendy Pepper, "Please don't defend the shoe to me!" It was said in a slightly raised tone, with firm emphasis. That was about the most heated he used to get, Also, it was in reference to the fashion, not Wendy herself.

Swapnil's model also had a minimal amount of makeover, to my eye. Her hair was styled but didn't look to have been cut much or colored, and her makeup was subdued. She probably resisted any changes there as well.

... offers to himself, anyway. Do you guys remember when Tim used to do a blog post after each show? It might have even been when the show was on Bravo. He was quite forthright-to-bitchy in it with regard to individual designers. He stopped doing it -- compelled by the producers, was my guess -- because he was giving too much away. But I was never under any illusions about him being a kind person after reading it. I like the addition of the judges being able to critique the clothes close up, but Tim has so eagerly inserted himself there to tell tales and backbite, often without being asked. I can only imagine how much of his own biases he blabs to Nina or Heidi while they're hanging around the craft services table or whatnot.

I thought Grace and Lace was a big ol' loser, too, so what do I know. I know a well-groomed guy -- a quiet academic librarian -- who wears patterned socks as sort of his thing and I don't think even he would want 12 new pairs a year. I get the appeal of the subscription model for entrepreneurs, but not selling individual pairs seems short-sighted. The Foot Cardigan website is trying way too hard to be FUN!!

I'm hesitant to "like" anyone's sad and painful story, but I'm 64 and will reiterate that reporting just wasn't done back then. I was talking to a few women friends recently about things that happened to us as teenagers and young adults in the 60s and 70s -- bosses grabbing us, peepers, flashers, forcibly being felt up/kissed, being held in a locked in a room and made to talk about sex, a chiropractor who "needed" to do a pelvic exam ... nobody reported any of it. None of us so much as told our parents. It was just, "Ew, gross." The fact that those things may have been criminal was simply not in the vocabulary of the time. And none of our perpetrators were famous.

Am I supposed to care what Dillon does or where his heart lies? Cuz I don't, at all. I've also lost patience with Keira so guess that leaves me hoping Kellogg emerges triumphant in whatever future he desires. Take over the world, you conniving bastard! I've come to admire your determined, single-minded, and wholly self-interested guile.

It was an interesting twist that the guy who caused it died and now Audrey and Nathan have to figure out a way to disable it rather than simply talking to the Troubled person. That could have been the initial focus instead of 10 scattered subplots. And if we're triaging, I'd also prioritize figuring out who/what is causing darkness to shred people down to their damned bones. Whoever all the extra police were, they were hella incompetent. Don't feed the grem ... er ... don't draw your sidearms, don't use force, be calm. But noooo. Is it wrong that I still miss Dr. Carr? I like Gloria fine except she's maybe pushing the "tough old broad" thing a little hard.

I've lost track of so many plot threads it probably made the episodes more confusing than they should have been. Wasn't Nathan chief of police after his father died? I forget why Dwight was made chief. But yeah. I don't trust The Guard, either. The show has always required a deep suspension of belief, but the inconsistencies were rubbing my nerves for some reason. A town of 25K and only a small percentage know about the troubles, even with all the shit that goes down? Sewer gas explosion notwithstanding. And why were only some people at the school? Where were the other 24,975? Why was the darkness killing people, again? The police department sure had a lot of extra officers all of a sudden. The writing just didn't seem very tight or well thought out and yes, choppy editing. Two hours may have been overload at this point. The chick who wandered into the car repair place looking for Duke and was suddenly promised $31K didn't seem very grateful or surprised. And even for TV, the boss was doing a lot of talking and wavering while he was pointing the gun at Duke explaining how he was about to kill him. I did appreciate that Haven has been wiped from the outside world's memory, or else surely help would have been forthcoming.

Season Three: Time to Snuggle Up And Watch Our Couchies!

Fun clips, thanks! -
So little patience, I have. Crew volunteers? It's a piece of clothing on a TV show that you never have to wear again or even keep. It's not your entire self worth. You'd think they would have been a little more relaxed from being around the show for years but on the whole they came off as demanding, uncooperative and tearful for no reason. Unlike Nina, I was not one bit surprised that Ashley sent her model out in something unflattering for a plus size person, because that's the way she dresses her own damned self week after week!

Worst Cooks In America: Celebrity Edition

I think it's the hair. While I'm focusing on the superficial, Kendra must have one hell of a skin care regimen, especially considering what I imagine her party girl life must be (have been?) like. So dewy and glowing. -

I'd also like to know the back story on Ayn, Teddi, and Sue because it doesn't seem like they know each other very well. My guess is they live in the same retirement community and answered a casting call? Bravo should do a viewer question episode with all of the couchers answering emails. How many times has Ayn been married, anyway? :) -
Well yeah, but I did enjoy the female comic's enthusiastic participation.

Since Brian is immune from the detrimental affects of NZT, it annoys me that we're supposed to believe he can't string three coherent words together when it wears off. He was presented to us as a slacker, not an idiot with no social skills. And if he's so smart he should know to tone down his manic NZT self so that the differences aren't so apparent to every single person he meets.

Ya know, I generally dislike scrolling tweets or other on-screen commentary but I'd make an exception in this case. The editors could add arrows pointing to Brandy's dogs with their names, the caloric info for the snacks, details about the houses and tchotchkes, fun trivia about the couchers, etc. Like pop-up videos on VH1 back in the day!- 234 replies

And a few of them got teary about her husband dying. Awww. I haven't watched that particular show but have seen my share of makeover TV and kind of agreed with Sam -- let her be herself! Clinton usually tries to accommodate/play along with someone's personal style, but it looks like they sanded off all traces of her former personality. The other comment about looks that made me laugh was when Julie Egber said Jay Leno had really blown up and Andrew got all indignant on Jay's behalf: "Just because you lost weight...!" (Also, I just saw Jay on The Today Show and he looks the same as always, only older. I sympathize about bad camera angles.) -

Don't get me started on Doc Martin! If I was a sitcom character I would have thrown a vase at the TV. Such a pleasant show ruined. -

Princella, all primed to be pissed: "Black people can't what?" "Go to Mars." "Aw, hell no. We ain't doing that!" I guess we're calling Scott "Dimples" now? It wasn't my favorite episode but still nice to have everyone back. -

You're welcome! I have spent same on replacement lids and/or plugs and the good microwave containers made out of hard plastic. Doesn't melt and leach, ya'll!
