  1. It is possible she didn't have any friends, either because she was reclusive or the few she did have either abandoned her/moved away or died etc. Anything could have happened. Seeing the lack of people at the funeral may have triggered AJ even more into wanting a kid to avoid loneliness which is silly because parents can out live kids and adult kids can walk away from their parents. There's no guarantees in life. They could have provided some context though I agree as to why there were no friends there. Throwing a few extras in wouldn't have killed their budget unless they really did want to present the image of a loner type.
  2. No he's not thinking clearly. As someone above mentioned, his mother's funeral wasn't attended by many so maybe he is really scared no one will care for him. A lot of outwardly tough acting people aren't really that tough when it comes down to it. And yes, I thought the same thing. There would be plenty of women he could actually form a relationship with or even adopt which I know isn't common for single men but again, his status and wealth would open doors for him. Or maybe he is like Padma who wants the kid without the relationship? But again, I don't think he really wants a kid. Maybe he should just go to a petting zoo every so often.
  3. There really isn't much they can do with the show. Shaun is just as socially inept as he was at the start. His relationships with women are unlikely, especially with someone like Leah. I doubt hospitals would allow him near patients and his co workers would report him for being inappropriate, which is often. The virgin storyline was boring and would she really want to lose it in a hospital?
  4. Am I the only one who thinks it's out of character for AJ to be wanting to have a child this way? He seems very methodical and traditional in his own way. I don't think he will be ok with occasional visitation rights. It's also a stupid reason to have a kid to avoid loneliness, again something which I don't think would crush AJ if he did feel it. There's also cultural factors in play with the sisters which the writers are ignoring. It all seems very wrong and unlikely given all the factors.
  5. I'm going to read between the lines from this interview where she talks about the fashions. I would say it's the wardrobe/producers who probably have a deal with the fashion house who make the dresses. The way she answers the question (see further below), it doesn't sound like she could afford the dresses let alone choose them for her character. Just my take on it. Also is it just me or are most of her dresses basically the same thing in different colours? https://wornontv.net/bull/marissa-morgan/ https://regardmag.com/10-things-geneva-carr/
  6. Confidence AND GOD! God being a major factor in Landon's work. Something I love about the Walton's is John's refusal to be baptized.
  7. Liv did seem like an old hag in training at times. She was closer to her mother in law than should be allowed! John was really the only non annoying character on the show. I felt bad for John it seemed he was supporting the entire family and no one was really there for him. One ep he comes home and there isn't any dinner and he is rather upset about it. Then of course it's either his father or oldest son who burn the house down via their stupidity. He has all these sons yet one wants to be a writer, another wants to be a muso, no one helps with the damn family business! Then his wife decides all the kids she has isn't enough so she wants another one despite her getting on in years. Cue disaster and more emotional fallout for John to deal with. I can see why he would just prefer being left alone. John Boy: Daddy, can we talk? John: "You're 21 now son, stop with the Daddy crap. What's up?" John Boy: "It's when I saw the Hindenburg crash. It was terrible" John: "Well yeah. I've been to war I know what's like" John Boy: "No this was worse. A big explosion, people on fire" John: "Well yeah. That is like war Son" John Boy: "No Daddy.. errr Dad. It was one big explosion!" John: "Hand me my rifle and the jug of whiskey"
  8. As far as I remember there really wasn't a big reason for it. She agrees to continue on with her family and then return to Sam afterwards. I thought that was another stupid decision in a series of stupid decisions. How would she even know Sam would still be there, let alone alive?
  9. Yeah Hawkeye was a mess and endangered himself and others way too often. He was also a drunk. His conduct with the nurses was also shocking. At least he was single unlike the other doctors. In reality Hawkeye would have been up on charges many times. Some of which would have been very serious and possibly resulting in a long prison term. Not sure if the US Army still had the death penalty back then for anything. Like MASH, LHOP also echoed the morals of the time it was made rather than the time it was set in. In reality the daughters would have been married off in their teens. Charles had the opportunity to start a business at one point but because it would have involved him spending time away from home he gave up on it. That isn't something that would have mattered during that era, people did what they needed to and the business Charles was looking into would have been lucrative. So the moral lesson of the day was "Fathers need to spend more time at home". Sages can come across in different ways. And back then mothers and fathers had different roles. What a child would go to his mother about was different to what they would go to their father about. As you get into the 80's parents would start being more of a team. Flo from Good Times was another one, more of a moralist. Samantha from Bewitched was a bit of a Sage. She had more say than Derwood that's for sure. Grandma tried to be a Sage but her old school beliefs tended to come off as a cranky old lady. I always got the sense with John that he would have been happier playing with his lumber and drinking a beer. Some of the lofty ideas that John Boy would go on about caused his eyes to roll! Even Pa was flawed, he embellished his experience about riding with the Rough Riders and if it weren't for Ma reigning him in by being a constant wet blanket he probably would have still been behaving like a 20 year old every night instead of just half the week lol.
  10. The hair cut was terrible. The long frizzy hair really made the character. Seeing her become a blonde Betty Boop didn't work. Might sound shallow but it did effect the show in the sense of how the character was perceived after that. All the characters make horrendous decisions at times. Meagan was my fave character and I have no idea how she tolerated her idiot husband always scheming some stupid idea.
  11. That's a really common (& boring) trope on TV shows as well. The main character is some kind of Sage who solves people's problems and everyone flocks to them. On MASH there was Hawkeye and Happy Days had Fonz and Mr C, The Waltons you had the father etc. TV in that period was all about teaching morality lessons as well so it just fit in.
  12. I also quit Vikings after Ragnar was killed off. None of his sons had the charisma to carry the show and Aslaug was more of a supporting character. I hated Ivar as well, he didn't come off as a leader to me which is where I think they were heading with him. I cringed so hard when I saw Jarl Hakkon! I also noticed Asians and other races in the town. I am not sure if the Vikings ever went far enough to gather those people themselves. And again we have the army of elite Shield Maidens. Ho hum. I'll still watch the next season but if it starts going even more Woke, like Vikings did than I could be out.
  13. Which is another reason why it seems staged to me. He could have given Chris a warning look during the jokes, said something etc but no, he sits there laughing along. Then decides to get up and slap him and go into a rant about not talking about his wife. At that point most people would leave but not Will, he sits down and waits for his award. The audience give him a standing ovation for assault. Then public opinion rolls in. Oh damn! People are on Chris' side?! Really?! Better apologize! There will be investigations! Would the cops even care? Jackass 1 talks about Jackass 2's wife. Jackass 2 gives Jackass 1 a limp wristed slap. Other jackasses applaud. All in an industry that supports defund the police.
  14. I am also looking at the show as a whole. There seemed to be a lot of attention/headline seeking antics this year. It makes me wonder if they are trying to be relevant again. I do feel it went badly for Smith though he does have that whole "I'm such a nice guy" routine which has never washed for me. I find him obnoxious, same with Rock so it's really a case of one dick being a dick to another dick to me. If that is the way Smith defends his woman than God help his woman! I also think Will Smith over did it after the slap. Why go back to your chair? Why still sit through the awards show? If that were me, I think a far louder statement would be to just get up and leave. But then he wouldn't have been able to accept his award. I find it hard to believe that the Academy would be ok with it staged or otherwise but I am cynical about these people. And there were a lot of "Look at me" type stunts this time around. Better still, ban him from making films ever again, ESPECIALLY with his obnoxious son.
  15. I'm so cynical about the Smith vs Rock thing. It looked really staged to me and it's the first time people have shown interest in these awards for years.
  16. Oh yes typical people wear masks especially at work. In fact there is nothing worse than people who just have to blurt out every thought they have, every emotion, every action they are thinking of taking. And that is how Shaun is, really annoying. From what you are saying Autistic people wear masks and Shaun does not yet he is meant to be autistic? So that does not add up, another huge oversight or perhaps an intentional oversight by the writers and actor. I think it could be a decent show without Shaun to be honest. For sure. I think that would be the reason why they went for a "neurotypical" actor to begin with. The show has always come off as a comedy to me. I don't think this show was ever intended as a serious medical drama. I think like a lot of shows it would have been better off with 3 seasons tops. The way it stands they can't have Shaun progress at all because then he loses what they see as his autistic characteristics and the whole point of the show is gone. As someone else mentioned previously, any successes he has are dialed back by the next episode.
  17. It would be seen as mocking autism. Which in a way the show kind of does. Shaun is usually shown as a buffoon. Putting his foot in his mouth wanting to discuss sex with his colleagues, having outbursts etc Having actual autistic actors play opposite him would also show up how badly the actor (and writers) do at portraying autism. He needs to wear a mask it's like anyone else. His colleagues don't need to know he had sex last night, something which applies to anyone in a workplace. And his patients shouldn't have to wonder what his problem is either. A social skills group would be good but I feel like Shaun thinks he does fine and would just have outbursts. I see why he would, he would claim that he is most likely the only Doctor in the group and also in a relationship with a typical person. The writers have made him a Mary Sue, can do anything one moment but a complete Damsel in Distress the next. I think Shaun sees himself as better/different than others who have autism. He works and lives in the typical world and he probably thinks he is doing an amazing job at dealing with it. It would be interesting to see him talk to other autistic people but I also get the impression the writers are bored with him and would prefer to focus on the other characters. Sometimes Shaun is a side character in his own show.
  18. A fun crossover would be for Shaun to meet Dr House from the old House series. That would be a fascinating thing to watch and given both are very blunt I think they would get along. A therapist (or similar) who is a tough love type who just lays it on the line. And yes I agree Shaun doesn't consider how his actions and words affect others. It isn't always because he has said something outright rude or offensive, sometimes he is just inappropriate. Speaking too freely etc especially when he was discovering sex. And that is part of the problem too. It's like he has just landed on Earth and learning our ways. Yet he got through school and then med school etc He is just too naive for someone who has accomplished what he has. Sadly I think you are right there as well, someone who seriously challenges him would be seen as PC Incorrect.
  19. According to this page he is 29 https://hero.fandom.com/wiki/Shaun_Murphy#:~:text=in Burnt Food.-,Dr.,who has high-functioning autism. I couldn't find an age for Leia but the actress who plays her is 2 years older (32) than the actor who plays Shaun.
  20. Shaun is also very untrusting and unforgiving. Leah has gone hot and cold on him in the past. I think he knows that relationships and love aren’t games he is good at and so is cautious about it all. I can’t see how it would work either. Leah has always been a party type girl and Shaun is really regimented. It would be sad for her to go along with it have a baby then divorce him a few years later. It would be painful to watch him have to understand divorce and visitation rights etc He has flipped out over a lot less.
  21. Mature enough to know he's immature? I get the sense Leah is secretly relieved!
  22. I can't recall her name but if we are talking about the same woman, she actually challenged Shaun and treated him like an adult. I do agree that Leah treats him like a son she is raising/grooming. It feels creepy and I am sure if Shaun was a "Shauna" they would not be going there. Leah also looks a lot older than Shaun which adds to the overall image. He has his friend Dr Aaron but I don't think Shaun has anyone who really challenges him. They are either scared of him or can't be bothered so just humour him or they infantilize him. A proper therapist would be interesting. Someone who makes him question himself and perhaps makes him think a little before going into outburst mode.
  23. The way they have infantilized him also makes it very cringe inducing when it comes to his sex life. I feel like the women he has been involved with are abusing him! He may be a genius medically but socially and romantically he is a dunce. I agree they have cornered themselves and like a lot of TV shows it would have been better off only running 3 seasons at most. They can't have him improve his social understanding as that negates the purpose of the character and the show. But to not have any improvement at all is also a joke. I feel like the show is a serious enough Medical drama until Shaun appears than it becomes a parody. It could be interesting but sadly it isn't. Shaun is working in a very serious and professional, not to mention competitive field. He is also trying to have a romantic life with someone who is "normal" not to mention working with "normal" people. Like it or not, he has to learn to play by their rules and he just struggles. It's like he doesn't learn anything. It is poorly written and the actor who plays Shaun, using that robotic voice is just a massive fail. I don't understand how Leah tolerates him.
  24. I don't watch very often anymore. Shaun is a dead end as far as a character goes. He hasn't progressed at all socially and maybe that is the way it is in reality but this is a tv show. Seeing Shaun still fumble his way through everything isn't amusing anymore. It's just sad. And I don't believe for a second that a highly litigious society like America would allow someone like him so much contact with patients and other staff. He puts his foot in his mouth far too often.
