  1. My only complaint about Evil Conner is that Joshua Orpin is playing it unevenly. It's a bit schlocky, but I handwave it as Kon just having a hard time adopting that persona. As a fan of the Superboy: The Boy of Steel run by Geoff Johns where Conner returns from the dead and moves to Smallville so that he can figure out who he really is and what he really wants out of of life; and to also find out more about Lex, I love that TITANS is tackling Conner's search for connection. Superman is ghosting him (another plot point I have loved in the comics) so Kon is drawn by the only "father" he has access to. With Lex being dead and Mercy carrying employing the same smooth-talking tactics that works for Lex, it makes sense that Kon will go with the idea of the "father" who actually paid attention to him and valued what he brings to the table, ability-wise. Speaking of valuing abilities, Bernard getting stroppy because Tim wanted to trust the undefinable (rain dog) versus going the science route was shocking. Bernard acted like a petulant child who literally took his toy car because Tim had a different opinion on how to approach this unique situation. Bernard works in a lab that caters to Amazonian Princesses and aliens surely he can't discount instinct considering what the wonders he personally knows about. He's helping Tim's teammates who are an alien, alien-human clone, a guy who can turn into things, a demon's daughter. Bernard is seeing a guy who returned from the dead, but Tim trusting his guts is a bridge too far.
  2. Fun film, but the premise is very slight. The 90-minute runtime works due to there not being much story there. Nicholas Hoult is a delight and Nic Cage brings the right amount of crazed camp
  3. AMC needed to cut costs so they reneged on several renewals of shows - SOULMATES was a budgetary sacrifice. Goldstein is has another series he co-created and writes for SHRINKING on Apple+ so his TED LASSO commitment isn't an issue. J.J Feild was fantastic in his episode. He deserved a Critics Choice Awards nomination like Betsy Brandt did for it. For me the strongest episodes were Ep. 3 and onwards. Would love to have seen what other stories they could have come up with.
  4. . I loved that moment. It was part of the the through-line that Connor is a good big brother to Roman (Connor taking Roman fly-fishing being Roman's happiest memory, Con being the one to go after Roman when Shiv cut him down while the four were having a discussion about teaming up with Kendall to go against Logan).
  5. As far as I'm concerned she wasn't officially fired. Sure, Roman told her the news but we don't know if Roman had a chance to hear his voice mail and release the info of Gerri's firing to others to make it official (get her exit package together, etc.). Did Roman even get a chance to confirm to Tom that he fired her? And if she had been officially fired I don't see Karl, Karolina, Frank and Hugo letting her into the cone to strategize how to handle letting people know of Logan's demise.
  6. I hope it's her AVATAR obligations but her AVATAR 3 was filmed at the same time as THE WAY OF WATER and the first act of AVATAR 4 was filmed then as well. And as 4 takes place on Earth and a different land, Bailey wouldn't necessarily be in that film much. Her mom-ager posted a quote about better things come to those who are patient and the best things come to those who don't give up, which feels to me that it wasn't Bailey's call. But who knows.
  7. No Bailey Bass for season two.https://deadline.com/2023/03/interview-with-vampire-claudia-delainey-hayles-replaces-bailey-bass-recasting-season-2-1235315289/
  8. Kieran Culkin talks with Esquire. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/a43399530/kieran-culkin-succession-interview-2023/?utm_campaign=socialflowTWESQ&utm_source=twitter&src=socialflowTW&utm_medium=social-media
  9. Loved it. A lot of fun and heart. I geeked out at the Michael Gray cameo.
  10. This week's episode was written by Brett Goldstein; another winning episode. Love how Derek stood his ground.
  11. /couldn't tell, but was the tourist eaten at the end/ Yes. Alden and O'Shea's characters talk about seeing his body outside the cave and there was a quick cut to his mangled body.
  12. "Loving the great chemistry between all the actors- I think that’s what makes this show so fun to watch." They cast really well. Everyone jibes well. Love Brian and Gaby together.
  13. I understand people feeling how they feel about media but it's curious to me that critics are acting as if we are not dealing with fictional characters. I see this often now where people feel as if we are dealing with real life scenarios and characters should adhere to what society views is the right and "moral" way. This is a sitcom. This is entertainment not a moral guidepost. The scenarios are done for comedic purposes. No one is advocating for therapists to do the same as Jimmy. I have enjoyed all the episodes but this week's episode is my favourite by far. Perfect casting of Lily Rabe as Paul's daughter. It's great that they quickly resolved Gabby's cold-shouldering of Liz. I get that now that Jimmy and Alice are emerging from the other side of their grief, but as Liz said last week she was the one there, not Gabby. And about time Jimmy thanked her because he was too lost in his grief and floudering to be emotionally present for Alice. I think tonally the show is like "Scrubs", but the way the characters are adult enough to quickly resolve their issues and the show has no intention of drawing it is a "Ted Lasso" thing. I had a laugh when Jimmy (or maybe Gabby) asked Paul, "What, are you a chef?", or something to that effect because Ford's son Ben is a famous chef. Same when Liz said people always asks her for her playlist. Christa is the music supervisor on this and many of her husband's other shows
  14. She's had this face and slurring even when she appeared on SCRUBS.
  15. Sarah Polley wanted to keep the location vague. Just like she never specified their religion though the real events took place in Bolivia within a Mennonite colony.
  16. Damien Chazelle's bold, audacious dazzling look at a group of people at the juncture when the silent films pivoted to sound and the effect it has on their careers. Saw it twice in theaters and enjoyed it on the highest of levels both times. An astonishment of a film with stunning performances. It's a career best for Margot Robbie IMO, a gorgeous heartfelt performance by Brad Pitt and Diego Calva is a revelation. Sadly The score is outrageous. Justin Hurwitz and as shocking as the lack of acting and cinematography nominations are, I am happy that the Academy nominated him for Best Score. It's a glorious paean to the era and the players.
  17. It was among my top 5 films of last year and I wad absolutely gutted that the cast didn't secure BAFTA nor Oscar nominations. Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley,Judith Ivey and Sheila McCarthy were astounding.
  18. Granted, the Academy's statement didn't mention Andrea Riseborough by name, everyone knows what actor's campaign they are questioning. I am incredibly put out that Danielle Deadwyler didn't get a nomination as she has been at the top of my Should Be Nominated list since October when I saw the film (as was Olivia Colman and Margot Robbie - others who did not gain a nomination). But I don't see how the alleged bit of cronyism helped Andrea Riseborough. Unless they prove a type of quid pro quo or gifting, voting for your friends' friend or whoever, isn't against the rules. The branch votes for who they want to vote for. It could just be that they preferred Riseborough over Deadwyler and Davis. If people want to believe that there is something more insidious going on like racism, then how does that account for the nominations of Brian Tyree Henry, Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu and Angela Bassett? I think for those outside of the AMPAS it looks highly suspect because, other than the Spirit Awards, Riseborough has had no presence. The first I heard of this film was when I received an invite for a virtual screening in November. Then again earlier this month when they had a screening (in the DGA's smallest theater) hosted by Demi Moore and moderated by Minnie Driver. The next morning there was a virtual screening Q&A hosted by Kate Winslet. Then an article about how Riseborough was emerging as a Dark Horse contender. So it seems pretty fast in the public sphere, but as articles recount there has events and pushes for it outside the public eye. All fair. Now MGM could have campaigned harder for Deadwyler, but Sony pushed hard for Davis.
  19. I don't know why there is an issue with the Andrea Riseborough nomination. Yes, it was a very late entry into the Oscar race (it was being pushed for the Spirits but nothing more) and got celebrity backing but there were other celebrity backed films this year. It's just an upset. This film literally started their Oscar campaign about 3 weeks ago.
  20. It's a nice film. It's not too cloying and the emotional beats don't feel overly manipulative. Great supporting cast.
  21. I haven't watched the original pretty much since it came out. I remember loving it but now all of these years later I can't really recall what I loved about it other than the visuals, though I know I loved things about it beyond the visuals. Having seen AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, I am happy that the visuals have more stunning than ever, but I really loved the storyline and loved the new additions. This one sticks with me more. It's a beautiful film and wonderfully acted.
  22. Cruise has that old school Jack LaLanne build. For that era he is fit but compared to the standards of male bodies today he's stocky. I attended a q&a with the director and the majority of the cast (everyone except Cruise and Connelly). The director intended for the beach scene to be shirts vs. skins but the actors -thinking it was to be shirtless- had all worked out and fasted for the scene and pushed for shirtless. For character purposes Lewis Pullman kept his shirt on.
  23. I'm expecting a boycott, too. Even the "thank yous" have been muted. Before celebrities would be more effusive with their thanks to the HFPA. I will say, with the exception of lack of nomination for TILL, Danielle Deadwyler, WOMEN TALKING and anyone from that cast (my favorites are Jessie Buckley with Claire Foy close behind and easily deserved the slot more than Carey Mulligan who was staid in the equally staid SHE SAID) I think the nominations are wonderful. I've seen quite a bit of the films nominated and am very happy for the BABYLON love (Diego Calva, Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt are sensational in it) and Adam Driver's nomination for WHITE NOISE which is well-deserved. On the TV side I am dismayed that Brian Tyree Henry was not nominated for ATLANTA where he has given 1000% each season; and the continued absence of RESERVATION DOGS is a travesty.
  24. Was very happy to see Lane Factor (Cheese) in Steven Spielberg's THE FABLEMANS. I miss seeing Cheese and the other every week.
