Just watched the Jacob episode. I guess they bridge the episodes with the character who will be featured in the next one. The father isn't too happy with being a father (priest). So the machine appeared out of nowhere and presumably Johnson doesn't get a cut of the money people put into the machine. Johnson doesn't mind, he gets to chat up people who use the machine. Good way to exposit the back stories of the characters. The more I see Dusty and Cassandra, the more they don't seem to fit each other. First of all Cass is way out of Dusty's league. We would see their back story as a couple, presumably.

I don't know that the kids pushed for higher price from Gojo necessarily to scuttle the deal. Maybe Kendall did, with that devious smirk but he might mainly be interested in foiling Logan. The kids don't understand business, period, so no they don't have a plan. I assume the deadline with Nan has some contingency saying the sale to Gojo must complete or they don't have the funds they promised to buy Pierce.

I just heard about the movie but it sounds like they haven’t started shooting yet. didn’t know Shalhoub was on Marvelous Mrs. Mauser, which I haven’t seen.

The Challenge in the Media: "The road to [fame] is straight and narrow."

So after being away for awhile Bananas has been on the last couple including the World Edition. guess his other gigs didn’t last, hosting some show. Fessy didn’t get invited to WE. and CT has been awaY for awhile. Has he found an actual career or doing something short term and is likely to try to get back to the Challenge in a year or two? -
Bad elimination game for Wes and Zara. He said the equations weren’t hard but he didn’t go for the red weights until after Ben put a pair of red weight on Zara. he really messed up the Daily by skipping the shake and his performance in the elimination. The Rocketman Daily was really cool to watch and they used slow mo to show the launched challengers flying through the air. Yeah Justine was the only one to clear the highest bar but at one point TJ said “reach the bar” so I’m not sure they had to clear the bar without touching it to get the time subtracted. It seemed like Grant was trying something different and got himself and his partner in trouble with a risky move. I understand why Yes was the only male to get launched, because Emily could swim the greater distance from the back faster than anyone else who swam the shorter distance. But she wasn’t heavy enough as ballast to launch Yes high or forward and he wasn’t a fast swimmer. Bananas tried to gaslight Sarah — something about how newcomers should learn the ropes from vets, as if he wasn’t trying to further his own agenda but help newbies, who are competing against him for the top prize. She basically shut him up and negated his responses and gestures. it was great. I don’t know how Amber got everyone else to vote with her. looks like the largest alliance is no more because of Grant being eliminated.

Maybe it's different for only child, both parents and child. Presumably she has no objections to them being nearby. But she may gradually gravitate to spending her time with her peers only or date someone and not visit as much. They're going to have to get over the empty nest syndrome at some point. They may want to cultivate some friendships or get back in touch with some cousins or coworkers again. -

No kidding. But he wasn't teaching English to the locals, he was teaching online? I guess he just went for the lowest cost of living he could find. Street food is suppose to be very cheap but good in Thailand, not sure about Chiang Rai but definitely Bangkok. I've never been but researched a visit. Chiang Mai isn't at the top of most people's lists so maybe it's just not as popular to Westerners, which might explain the low prices. -
Would be a lot easier to walk away with all the money and not deal with the emotional abuse. that is what a lot of children born into very great wealth do, extricate themselves from the family business and the family, out of guilt or alienated from their family in some other way. Some try to do good things, philanthropy, volunteer, taking up some causes. others just spend the money and live well. these kids though see their worth and self esteem in being as successful or even more than their father. They really don’t have a strategy they’re confident in. They’re smart but they’ve never worked with risk of failing and not having anything. Kendall has ideas but not really a unique insight or business plan. That is why they toss ideas around about the Hundred or Pierce. they have no plan. yet they are invested in beinG players, eitHer with their inheritance or as part of the family company.

At various times, Shiv and Kendall have been away from the business and from Logan. He drew them back in. So it's not a one-way street. It's not like the father is saying go out and grow up and leave me alone. He wants to dominate them so he won't let them get too far away.

I read somewhere that in the 19th century or even earlier, London air quality was very poor because of unregulated burning of wood for heat. This was even before they were burning coal and before they burned whale oil. Now we know Europe is trying to convert from gas heating to electric heating so renewable power is used rather than natural gas. Some US cities are banning natural gas hookups for new construction. Several decades ago, people burning wood in the fireplace was very common and you'd see classified ads here (suburban CA) for cords of firewood for sale. Then climate change diminished the need somewhat. I remember when going to high school, you'd see frost on the roofs here in CA though it rarely snowed. You don't see that now, though we've just had the coldest winter in awhile, with snow dropping below 1000 feet above sea level, so some of the hills and mountain peaks here. I don't know if it was decrease in demand (because winter didn't get as cold as it used to) or changes in regulations which led to less fireplace use in this area. Probably both. -
But that was a govt. agency using eminent domain right? Brooks can't do it on his own unless he bribed some govt. officials. Must be what happened because it was the cops forcibly removing the Gallardos and then setting their home on fire.

Yeah I wondered about the fireplaces. Maybe there's a local ordinance not to burn wood within the city for air quality. -
So the reversed fingerprint means what, it was lifted from somewhere else and then placed on Brooks' car, causing it to come out reversed? Della is carefree and enjoying her time with her lover. Then reality came crashing down and she feels bad. That lesbian bar seems luxurious, given how times are tough for a lot of people. She doesn't seem to feel any effects of the Depression. Perry was scrounging for money in season 1 too but now he can get takeout -- did it even exist back then? -- for his little dalliance with Ginny, his son's teacher. Paul is doing a lot of work, a lot of things he doesn't want to do. Seems like he should get more of the grocery store money too. He's making all the discoveries. Speaking of which, it's probably about time for the grocery store guy to cause trouble for Perry and company. I'm not getting the model train. Someone got run over? Kind of a lot of work to send a message. There used to be model train and car sets which all came in a nice box. But I'm guessing back in the 30s, it was a bit more work. Perry senses political pressure on Burger's office. Paul is making headway on who bribed the Gallardos. But it's not enough, he has to completely solve the case so his clients get off free. Perry Mason doesn't do plea bargains! Also, Brooks pretty much built the stadium? That would be costly, because he probably took out a big loan and doesn't have any income coming in since we know that there were no baseball teams in LA then, unless maybe some minor league teams were playing in that stadium. Building a stadium in a city is not a minor undertaking. Brooks may have been promoting the hell out of it -- if you build it they will come! -- but to get the cops to clear out residents, burn homes down and then to construct something which sits empty, that's got to be a lot of pressure on Brooks. He must have owed a lot of people.

If he was ill, the last thing would be to move to another country, where your health care coverage would be uncertain. They're probably in their early to mid 50s at the oldest. He can still make lifestyle changes to improve his health. -
An even more recent story, an illegal also from Brazil gained admission to a top Graduate program in Washington for diplomats and intelligence officials. This spy supposedly may have sent back intelligence about US response to Russian buildup before they invaded Ukraine and may have lined up internship at the International Criminal Court, which was about to investigate and rule on Russian war crimes in Ukraine. https://apple.news/AaCDarrzAQJCWMbM2yOPHoA

Real life and current story about illegals who had married before leaving Russia but lived as individuals, both having long term relationships with individuals who suspected nothing. https://apple.news/AFsjY8KJ3SV-VDh-wZjSTMg The husband was about to finalize purchase of a property which was 50 meters from a US consulate in Brazil. Speculation is that arrests of illegals may have compromised their covers so they both fled back to Russia.

The theory is that Gerri may be lining up to go work for Mattson after the deal. So now she's persona non grata to Logan who was going to throw her under the bus last season.

Yucatán episode: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/eva-longoria-searching-for-mexico-restaurants/index.html I don’t even like pork and I’m tRying to avoid salt but Yucatan looked cool. Good mix of very high end and affordable restaurants. Not sure how many of the colorful dishes I’d eat but maybe I’d sample some. First two episodes are making me look into a visit — I’ve never been either but it’s not the usual view of party resorts that you get in HHI episodes.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

Talk about helicopter parents! And the daughter let them move there. Her going to college in Scotland wasn’t a hint that she wanted to be away from home? The place they chose was the most function with space, 2 bathrooms for their daughter and guests. I forget which one but there was one with a lot of stairs that husband was going to struggle with. OTOH, he could use the exercise. The first property which they eliminated had a tiny, single bathroom which he couldn’t easily fit into. Sure it was too narrow and small for them but part of it was that he’s too large. The final 2 choices, the price difference was $200 and he complained $4000 was too much for them, $500 more than their budget. It is a lot of money but is it really for a large flat in central Edinburgh? Or for two lawyers who claimed to have a successful business? They’d also sold a six bedroom home in Fargo too. The modern vs. charm was the usual HHI BS. Yeah the third house had a modern, renovated kitchen and living area while the other rooms were more traditional. What horror! If the kitchen wasn’t renovated they be whining about no stainless steel appliances, though they don’t look like they cook. Back story was kind of interesting, they decided to room together while in law school. He didn’t make a move, just wore cologne to bed. That didn’t make her run away? Well now he’s middle aged with tats, Mohawk and earrings. What kind of law practice does he have? -
Yeah Kendall has his own agenda. Before Mattson told him that he would walk, he wanted the deal as-is. Well back in Italy, all 3 of them wanted to stop the deal and now they can do it. He was grinning and smirking on the way home by himself. Shiv just let it get personal, that dad is actually helping her husband instead of her. She wants to get back at Logan by blowing up the deal but it would also hurt their position. I also believe they don't have a plan for Pierce. Kendall wanted news about Africa all the time? Rome is right, not even Kendall would really watch that. They got the rush out of denying dad a prize but after the energy dies down they realized they don't particularly have a passion for running their own media organization. Of course Greg is the one who has to tell Kerry, pretend that it wasn't Tom who made him tell her nor that Logan gave Tom the unpleasant task. Hugo and Gerri were laughing at her audition video before Logan walked into that meeting room, which is why Hugo didn't want to open his laptop up again. Greg doesn't care if Kerry finds out he's lying to her about the focus group, he carried out his thankless mission. Dodged another bullet! Connor just wants to be loved like the other Roy children, but from someone else than his family, while the other 3 kids only want daddy's love. So he won't confront the obvious, Willa wouldn't have stayed with him if not for the money. Or that she disappears for hours on the eve of their marriage. Was it Shiv or Rome who told Connor he could meet someone else if Willa has bailed? But Ken set him straight, don't give up on Willa because he (Conner) isn't going to do any better. Conner -- "it's a factory setting" -- may STILL marry her even if Willa told him she's with him for the money. Thing is, he may be the most decent human being in the family. It seemed at first that Logan left the karaoke club with resignation, like his kids foiled him. But he goes out into the Manhattan streets and his misanthropist side comes out full force, expressing disgust at some homeless guy scrounging for something in the trash. Apparently the hate makes him take another run at trying to flip Rome -- who has secretly texted him and wished him happy birthday. Show the slightest vulnerability and he pounces! In the first season though, Rome was clownish, jerking off in his office and screwing up some of the early jobs which he was given. But what he lacks in experience, he still has some kind of insight and may be the most ruthless out of the 3, though ruthless not just to be vindictive but to use it to his advantage. While Logan is making a play, trying to get Roman on his side, he probably believes Roman is best-suited to be the "killer" he thinks he has to be. But then he's constantly played them against each other. showing favor to each one at different times, so in the moment he's convinced himself that Rome best suits his interests.

Only watched the first episode so far. Is Dusty suppose to be an American? Because COD isn't even trying to hide his Irish accent -- he says 'turd' instead of pronouncing it as "third" like other Americans. COD obviously never played basketball. His form on the shooting game was horrible. OK, I thought Morphos was a figure out of Greek mythology but apparently not, it's a genus of several species of butterflies. Especially with one of the main character names being Cassandra, there were some allusions to Green mythology. I doubt the town would be so preoccupied with that machine but maybe it's a boring place otherwise, a small town, kind of middle of nowhere? It's so old school over there that Dusty wanders at night, when others are sleeping to the general store and he's in his bathrobe and so is Mr. Johnson. How does he go into he store, which presumably has been closed for hours? A lot of Apple TV + shows have this element of mystery, fantasy or sci-fi. Severance is the obvious example but there are several upcoming shows with a sci fi theme, of dystopian alternate worlds. I was thinking they do it too commonly. I know this streaming service is owned by a tech company but not everyone who owns iPhones read sci fi and fantasy books or only watch movies and shows in these genres. Then I thought about it, the mystery of the Morphos machine is driving the plot in the premier. Presumably they townspeople will continue to be preoccupied with it and more about the nature of the machine will be revealed. If this show was just a conventional story of a little town and the folks who live there, it probably wouldn't be too interesting, unless it turns into some juicy soap opera or something or some horrific crime or accident occurs and the characters have to reveal that. But a pseudo tech or sci-fi mystery at the center of the plot is not a bad device. Anyways, Dusty must be mid 40s at least. Not that he couldn't change his career yet but his kids are almost all grown up, could be out of the home in a year or two. So why would he be upset that Morphos told him his purpose in life is to be a teacher, which he already was? Maybe he wanted to change careers or isn't really happy being a teacher? It'll be interesting to see what Cassandra's role in life is suppose to be. She's hiding it from Dusty and she would not answer his question of whether she was happy. She certainly put up a happy front until Dusty asked her the question, which she either pretended not to hear or just stonewalled Dusty in reaction.

The gender reveal skydive by the Situation was one of the best moments of the cast enjoying each other in a few seasons. Laurens may genuinely have been pissed off to find out Mike was up there, about to jump out of the plane, but that soon gave way to anticipation and excitement. Good bonding moment, one of the best in the show, but in the last couple of seasons, a lot of BS about Mike outing Angelina and then the fake moments earlier this season where Vinny and Angelina was supposedly becoming a thing.

S21.E10: Chris Sununu; James Kirchick; Winsome Sears
aghst replied to tessaray's topic in Real Time With Bill Maher
Sununu tried to appeal to Bill's anti-woke beliefs, saying CA is run horribly. He alluded to the homeless, can't walk anywhere. Well I walk all the time in CA, though I'm in the suburbs, not the big city. I don't recall off the top of my head but NH probably has low taxation but isn't a welfare red state like AL or MS or LA. Still, without CA, the rest of the nation would be much poorer so that that back to tiny NH, which has no weight -- Bill alluded to scaling problem when Sununu tried to compare his state to CA. As for the guests, nobody challenged the idea that the 2nd amendment is as interpreted by the current very conservative SCOTUS. They just say the 2nd is as basic a right as the 1st amendment and we're just going to have to pay the price in form of all the shooting sprees -- by the way shootings are the main cause of children's deaths of a certain age range now. This right is so inviolate, we just have to live with these massacres now and then -- actually they're becoming more common. Then the fatalistic "400 million guns, we'll never get rid of them" so we might as we'll not bother to try. In fact do the opposite, let everyone get everything, even though it's a relatively small number who own tons of guns. Nobody is suggesting confiscation. Australia got rid of their gun problem after a horrific shooting spree event by encouraging people to turn in their guns, in exchange for money or other incentives, as well as tougher laws. We have to start somewhere, chip away at it, getting rid of certain classes of weapons is one way to start, maybe controlling sale of bullets more tightly is another starting point. Bill's idea not to publicize the shooters, like the NFL not showing fans who run onto fields, isn't going to reduce the shooting sprees to any significant extent. I don't know what the motivation of the trans shooter was, but apparently she or he felt mistreated. And that black lady saying the shooter doesn't deserve to be referred to in his/her preferred gender is also ridiculous. Yeah how did mistreating trans people work out for that school? Then she went on like drag performers are giving children lap dances and doing pole dances at schools. Maybe it happened once or twice but it's like saying that because it once rained in a desert area, the desert is like a rain forest. Dishonest, using outliers or one-time things to try to represent what is opposite of what's happening. Then Kirchick -- I wouldn't have minded hearing more from him -- said trans are getting way more aggressive about asserting their rights. He's gay but he's willing to thrown trans people under the bus. Apparently LGBTQ is too much. -

I'm not sure the pairs will stick together. That might be what some of them are thinking, this isn't going to be my partner for the whole season. As for how they're voting, so far only Danny and Tori seem to have big disagreements. Why didn't Tori stand her ground? Maybe they had agreed that they'd alternate with each vote with one having the final say for the pair and this is Danny's turn?
