The Challenge in the Media: "The road to [fame] is straight and narrow."
aghst replied to Stinger97's topic in The Challenge
Most of that article seemed to suggest that Bananas was low key when not doing a season, staying close to home and family. And she expected something different? Kind of a gap in their ages too. Maybe he’s blasé because women throw themselves at him, over the years he’s been on TV. And since he’s concentrating on his own show, maybe MTV wouldn’t have just her back on The Challenge because they like to showcase couples who are competing together. -
Mat probably shouldn’t keep talking about Lexi, especially about her standing in his dirt — though that is a shitty thing to do. However, it was nauseating hearing others trying to sound sympathetic about her, especially Katie and Malia. They must not believe there are bad people, just bad circumstances. Except Lexi has burned bridges everywhere. She didn’t keep a burn list because her dad had died or her mother was too strict — looks like she had no problems breaking out of the strict upbringing. Maybe they will still take the high road when they do the reunion but it’s doubtful she feels any compassion for them. Lloyd must had had bad jobs or work situations previously. He seemed really worry about his next yachting job and whether he’d be in a supportive environment. But enough to get panic attacks or whatever is causing him feeling sick? Hmm looks like the women think they’re out of the leagues of the men. Maybe they’re still the bad boy phase.

Scenes From A Marriage - General Discussion

Are they playing games or are they just bad at communicating what they really want? Mira comes over with the flashy new hairdo color, which Jonathan notices. She walks up to the door at a good pace, all upright, as if she's eager to. All hugs and kisses, lot of stroking the shoulders and arms. It's a year later, she's living with Poli and they're sharing custody of Ava, though they're not divorced. Jonathan has remodeled a bit and he's moved his bed downstairs, next to Ava's room. Mira is surprised by the changes to the house, though if they've been sharing custody and she's been coming over to pick her up, wouldn't she have noticed the changes, at least in the living room? Mira proposed this meeting and she tells Jon that she's got a big promotion but she'd have to move to London. Jonathan stops smiling, says no way Ava is going to London with her so Mira says what if Jon and Ava both came, got an apartment near where she'd be living? I don't remember the sequence but Jon reads some narrative he's written as part of seeing a therapist. He essentially says that he shut her out, couldn't make her happy. Mira says she feels lonely living with Poli. Then they start making out and then Jon says no, they can't have sex. But then they both move to the bedroom where they will apparently spend the night in the same bed not having sex. But this reverie is interrupted by repeated calls from Laura, a woman Jon has been seeing and to whom he promised he'd call after Mira visited. Jon makes a point of telling Laura that Mira is still there, in his bed and then puts on a little show for Mira of breaking up with Laura over the phone right in front of her. Then Jon plays a voice mail of Poli telling telling Jon that he's over it, that is he wouldn't mind if Mira went back to Jonathan. Before he could call her on her bullshit, Ava comes out and he has to coax her back to sleep. Thing is, he wanted them to stay together, even after learning she was cheating on him. He again repeats that they should have worked on it, try to save their relationship/marriage because they were special to each other. But when she makes overtures, he shut them down, at least for this episode. -
Stews and News: Below Deck Med in the Media

Doesn't it only take 2-3 weeks to film a whole season? And you figure maybe a week before and after to get acclimated to time zone change so maybe 5 weeks total. She could probably do this tour. Maybe ratings are declining after the pandemic bump, which could lead to a shakeup in the cast. -
No Axe was busted and he couldn't trade for awhile and then by the end of that season, he was back. He also got his old clients back, including the firefighters union. Remember one season ended with Axe having his offices ripped apart looking for a bug that didn't exist. Of course he was never fully off the shelf. He still had the snarl, like "gimme back what's mine!" attitude.

Mike's tax evasion case is going to be profiled on CNBC's American Greed show tonight, Sept 27 at 10 PM EST. Says he earned $5 million one year.

But the premise is dumb, that he's going to let his young and inexperienced, pampered daughters who are still in college make a big business deal pitch. Of course he wanted to lose out the deal to Axe. But he had to make it seem like he really wanted the deal in order to bait in Axe. So the reaction should have been head scratching. A deal worths millions and you're going to have a couple of 20 year olds try to convince the CEO of a successful company?
-
I don't think they will take the Axe character out of the show and continue. If he's defeated for good, it's like at the end of the series. But Damian Lewis lost his wife so maybe he wants out, at least takes some time away from work. I don't know if that's the case but iit wouldn't be a complete surprise.

Bravo would say the charter guests can do excursions before or after the charter. When they would be staying on land and can really set time for visiting on land. I wonder if the billionaires who own those giant yachts are only staying on board when they dock in glamorous ports like Monaco, the French Riviera or Portofino. Or do they go to fancy restaurants in those places, which cater to the rich? Or they go shopping or go to the casinos. These yachts of course have helipads and some even have submarines!

Axe says they can't give away too generous a deal to Janeane Garofalo playing the pot mogul. Then he proceeds to do just that, much higher interest rate than any bank is giving and throws in his Architectural Digest country home. OK, banks have to make a greater return on their capital than whatever interest rates they pay out. So why does Axe need the bank again? I thought Axe Capital was so profitable yet he's willing to take bad deals to get all the pot money? He didn't even wait for the Supreme Court ruling. Surely his lawyers would have advised him not to take any money until that happened? It doesn't matter, Axe waives due diligence or uses the fake one from Prince, so he doesn't find for instance that Janeane is mixing in illegal drug money with the legal pot money. Axe has been portrayed as tiptoeing around the line of what's legal and what's illegal, if not cross over it sometimes. But in this case, it's more about how easily Bobby is duped, because he's so desperate to make this deal. Meanwhile, the Chuck and Prince alliance is wiling to at least piss off or throw close relatives under the bus to keep up the ruse so that Axe falls for the trap. Chuck gives his father one more chance to avoid getting ensnared in Bobby's dubious business dealings but instead, Chuck Sr. demands a bribe from Axe. Sacker drops dime on her own father so that it makes it appear that Chuck had him arrested for some unrelated issue, because the father was going to allow pot commercials on the TV network he controlled, which was part of the deal Axe offered to the pot gangsta. By getting him arrested, it makes it appear Chuck is trying to stop Axe, which makes him double down on getting the pot money deal.. Prince is going to have his daughters pitch his fake deal to Janeane, knowing all along that it's just bait, not a real deal that they will win. So after Axe wins the deal, the daughters are whining. They were whining about having to take his private jet everywhere, because their classmates mocked them for having such privilege. Meanwhile, Taylor punks Wendy by having Rian go to her to rat on Taylor supposedly trying to make a deal with old Lawrence Boyd. Wendy doesn't even pause for a second of anguish before breaking doctor-patient confidentiality to run to Axe to rat out Taylor. So much for their Mason Carbon partnership, Wendy chooses Axe over them, even though Wendy and Axe have only talked about getting together at this point, haven't actually done the deed yet -- they're talking of going to Fiji after he's out of quarantine because there, the water is the same temperature as the air and you can't even feel the water, which begs the question, why go into the water then? Wendy is willing to pay off Chuck $25 million, accuses Chuck of wanting to get the check in person so that he could gloat. Then she says, the minute Chuck targeted Bobby 5 years ago, she was "impelled" towards being with Bobby.🙄 Yes Wendy, Chuck drove you to Axe ... She never once complained in the past 5 years for his prosecutorial decisions, other than the one time he sneaked a peek at her laptop.

The Perth episode she talked a big game about all the renovations and redesigning she was going to do. Then supposedly 3 months later, she’d mostly hung out at the pool and took a little retail job. Maybe she was auditioning for her own HGTV show, since they seem to have a lot of shows featuring young women redesigning and remodeling. Or maybe she should have spent time developing skills for a career type of job unless she wants her aspiring doctor husband to provide for her. In the London suburbs episode, Richard kept saying they needed to raise their budget. Sounded like money was tight, that he’d still have his college car and had it shipped over. They were also having their furniture shipped over as well. He found the extra $70k because she wasn’t driving him to the rail station and the kids to school. Or the budgets claimed on this show are fictional. -

Seems like the decision was driven by price but Notting Hill was $200 more though it adds up. She drove him to get the dog, the cat, start a family, move to London. Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where George complained of not having hand in his relationship — “I don’t have any hand, she has the (upper) hand!” So it was surprising that she agreed with him to take the cheaper house. But maybe $200 more on top of the $300 over their target was just too much. I think it’s one of the few times a hunter opted into a longer commute, as opposed to being gaslit but their partner into it. Regarding Richard’s beard, he definitely let it grow. He must not have liked wearing masks. -

Yeah she got that balcony in a nondescript building overlooking other apartment blocks. I guess it’s convenient for having a beverage out there, get some air. Floor is certainly a contrast from Sarah. Both can be enjoyable depending on one’s mood. She looks like a rocker chick, must have done some traveling in her younger days, very comfortable speaking English. -
Well CT has been more successful lately so maybe he's a good strategist and can judge which females are potentially good partners. Didn't he want Killa Kam last season, offended Big T the way he said he wanted her? But then ended up with Amber and what do you know, she dominated in the endurance parts of the Final and helped him win. So maybe his assessments aren't always on the nail.

Never been on a cruise either but I believe they're planned around shore excursions so that you can at least get lunch at a port, along with add-on trips to attractions which are some distance from the port. But the charters you see on BD shows, they don't often go on shore. If you research Croatia, there are a lot of historic sites which might be appealing to many people. Sometimes they will have dinners hosted in a castle or something. So the charters, as depicted on BD at least, are about self-contained experience on the yacht, where you take all your meals, where you sleep and where you do all your activities. Thus the emphasis on water sports and such. I don't know if people prefer to jet ski in Europe as opposed to go on tours of castles, forts, or explore small villages which go back hundreds or thousands of years. They do cast a fair number of people under 40 or even 30 so for younger charter guests, jet skis and slides may be what they want. Plus, showing people walking around old villages or say castles is probably not as "exciting" TV as watching guests ride jet skis, even go places where they're not suppose to or falling off of them. They also film drone shots of jet skis creating wakes around the yachts. The European river cruises are also giving you a lot of included things on the boat like most of the meals. But they go by these historic cities so it would be pointless to go on them unless you planned to spend some time in these places, on shore as opposed to watching them from the ship.

I'm not seeing any new recently aired episodes from France with Adrian. Could this have been a repeat? -
Just got an email from T&L magazine touting a new rooftop bar at the Knickerbocker hotel in Times Square. So I Googled and they have $24 cocktails! Chips and dip only $18! Evil Corp is gone but world still got shittier.

Pretty sure they've had people overstating their experience and skills on their resumes before on BD shows. One season the chief stew was complaining that one of the stews lied about 5-star service or something like that. She couldn't make a lot of common drinks either. I think it's likely that Bravo doesn't pay close attention to the CV of these cast members. In fact, they probably will pick someone obviously embellishing on the resumes, just so that other cast members could get pissed at the false resume claims. Like I said before, they seem to deliberately under-staff these yachts, compared to comparably-sized yachts in real charters, to cause the cast to be overworked and to create potential drama from these conditions. So slipping in unqualified crew, like chefs on more than one occasion, is part of that script, to have potential confrontations vs. the inexperienced or underperforming crew/cast.

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye — Fessy! They kept showing Nelson talking about how you can’t put your hands on somebody. He should know, he got eliminated for doing exactly that one season. It would have been the biggest crock if they let Fessy slide. Esther should not have been let off with a warning, even if she is a rookie. Esther and Berna mean girl-ing Amber. Don’t blame CT for wanting out and that’s something considering that Berna is pretty strong among the females. At the house vote I don’t know why Tori, Corey and Amber spoke up. They should have kept their mouths shut but maybe the producers told them to? In any event, Fessy and Josh are grown men, they need to take responsibility for their own actions. Josh being so emotional about his friendship and his family. 🙄 Unfortunately, over the top Josh is going to keep getting invited to future seasons though I hope MTV gets tired of the BB alliance after awhile and move on. Or at least get some different BB players. Esther should have spoken up about not sending her in. Did she think she was going to beat Amber and send her home? In the elimination, Esther is short but she’s thick and she’s been good in the daily challenges. Emy stayed upright so Nelson was right, Esther should have gone low. Emy could have been more physical but she mostly tried to go through her and Esther burned herself out trying to prevent Emy from reaching her bell. In the second heat, Esther actually got to the bell first but jumped too early and missed. Esther pretty ungracious in defeat, calling Amber out who was congratulating her for competing. Really you’re going to get her? For what, getting a drink thrown in her face? Players may remember her being so salty and also Berna as well, threatening to come after Emy for taking her partner. Other players aren’t going to blame Emy for doing what’s best for her game but they will remember those who make threats and not even pretend to be civil. Here’s another tip, this isn’t the Olympics so don’t need to hear about representing Nigeria or doing it for Romania. It’s a reality game show, not a true athletic competition.

Do stay at home husbands/dads keep as clean a home as stay at home wives? He's able to work from home so he's not strictly a stay at home spouse. Maybe they need to hire housekeeping services but seems like it's not something that bothers Mira. There are maybe many other things which bother her before she deals with messiness. -
It might suggest they're out of ideas, to go there with Bobby and Wendy after all these seasons. Wendy was mad at Axe for about a minute in season 3 or 4 and she's back in the fold, collecting the big paychecks. The way Bobby blows her up as the most important person after him, even though she doesn't make a single trade or win over big clients, this would have happened much sooner. The other part of it is that all those traders do not question Wendy's importance whereas in real life, you better bet those trader bros would resent the hell out of her. When they start sleeping with each other, their resentment would only grow, her getting 8-figure compensation for basically being a life coach, while the rest of them bust their tails to make their numbers every quarter, if not every day.

This writer believes the way the series breaks the fourth wall at the start of each episode (at least the first two), kind of robs it of the dramatic power it might have had. https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2021/09/hbo-scenes-from-a-marriage-tv-review/620132/
