  1. Presumably if he's betting his life savings into moving, he's researched some things. I'm not sure of the appeal of a wellness retreat with food forest would be for tourists. You get fresh fruit and whatever produce he can grow plus a couple of yoga sessions? I don't see anyone going there to train heavily. Most people would be happy with an Airbnb and they can try the local restaurants. Is he counting on the income from the business? Because all the homes were 2 bedrooms so he could host at most a couple at a time? But his priority seemed to be growing crops, so maybe he plans to sell them rather than having a little B&B or Airbnb thing. He may have a lot of money from selling his home so it's way to stretch his money and maybe he thinks he wants to work the land for awhile, do something different. So it's Green Acres without the demanding wife.
  2. Not a surprise, Showtime renews Billions for season 7. Probably will renew for season 8 as well. That means longer than Ray Donovan or Homeland. Even when the lead leaves the show, it keeps going. May be another Shameless.
  3. Good show, offbeat, quirky. Not sure how realistic the depiction is but believable that the Indian kids would be into the same popular culture as other kids, though Bear's father's rap video is may satire? Also get that Elora would want to get out of there, though they want to keep the show on for a few more seasons, she'll be stuck since this show is specific to this milieu? It's got to be scary for these kids to leave home and go to some unfamiliar culture. They have some grandiose ideas about what "California" may mean. Being poor in CA is probably no better than being poor in OK. Willie Jack didn't have a specific plan other than some fantasies about being an MMA fighter and some other things. You would hope Elora has a plan. By the end at least one of them make it out? Or is the reality that some kids leave but have to return and have the same life as their parents, which they wanted to avoid/
  4. Season 3 premiers on 4/24/22. https://deadline.com/2022/02/barry-season-3-premiere-date-hbo-1234933936/
  5. Maybe to appeal to young boys who like things like wrestling and superhero comics or something? Otherwise, do people seek spiritual guidance from men who are buff and can flex?
  6. I would be okay with it but I bet the other racers will be sore. Well it would be their fault, how could they lose the most important legs to a team that was barely hanging on? They can whine about how many chances the team was given but hey, they delivered in the clutch, the other racers didn't.
  7. Kamau is on Fresh Air talking about the series. Comes across as more definitive than on his CNN show or when he gave interviews about it. If he's going to tackle this subject, maybe if he came across as more neutral like on his CNN show, maybe he wouldn't be as credible? I haven't seen the doc yet.
  8. Lexi may be setting herself up to be collateral damage since that home may not be safe. The Nate and Maddy scene, you wouldn't expect from high school kids. Sure maybe a psychopath in his 30s at least. That's why I don't buy Nate as this streetwise criminal who can break into places. In the first season, wasn't it some guy's crib? It's one thing for him to break into Maddy's room, since he's been there. But where does he formulate these schemes? He should be busy with school and football. I thought he was some big prospect so he'd be talking to college recruiters, visiting colleges and so on.
  9. My Tivo shows it will record tonight, Monday 2/14/22 Hmm never mind it says Gallery Talk from season 2. Episode 301 is next week the 21st at 8 PM.
  10. That's the other ridiculous thing. Rian's number is suppose to be modest, $600k for a condo in Pittsburgh or something like that. That's only a few years to make at a firm like that but NYC rents are high and she was also wearing expensive things. Her little backpacking getup was like $6k. Then she talked about going to Turkey and staying in a hostel? She was eating $350 in vegan snacks and $80 in candies. She's probably developed expensive tastes working for hedge funds. If not the Geisha coffee, they have other gourmet stuff for the break room. Is she commuting to Manhattan from Staten Island or some other hinterlands? No she's probably spending thousands a month on rent, maybe over $10k. So she's going to travel and stay in a hostel? She's going to leave her expensive backpack and probably expensive contents at the hostel?
  11. Only thing they showed is Kat wants to be ravaged by a Dothraki chief or something. So some alpha male type. She's young so she may want to explore. But are guys beating down the door to get with her? Wasn't she doing some dominatrix thing with older men online? Those don't meet her ideal either. They said in the Inside the Episode thing that Nate is trying to be different than the loveless relationship his parents had when he takes in Cassie. The way they portray her, Maddy won't take that lying down, even though she was terrorized by Nate.
  12. I didn't think much of the first two retchings but when they all started going it, it was hilarious, even though I don't go for gross-out humor. Eli is a nationally-famous televangelist, able to pay for a sizable private army. How is his attempted assassination not a huge deal, with cops and FBI all over the place? Jesse admits he's in over his head but he's going to set up an ambush with his army? So bloody obvious he was inviting the assassins into a trap with the flashing hospital name and room number. And then they had a giant convoy from the hospital to the safe house in the Gemstone compound. You would think the siblings would have fought more about who is making the big decisions while Eli is unconscious. But they did have that funny scene at the table, Judy forcing everyone to scoot down on that long table. Then Kelvin showing up holding the glass with both hands, having to suck through a straw. Amber denied that Jesse is stupid -- he's dense, according to her. She also didn't deny that he was a silverback gorilla. How do you rent out a whole hospital wing or floor? If there's a big accident and they needed a lot of beds, what would they do? Those cycle ninjas shot up the hospital too. They're not going to have to answer for that? Which is why they can have the thrilling but unrealistic scene of Gideon chasing them down. He may be a hotshot motorcycle rider but no part of that motorcycle is bullet proof. But it's cool that he doesn't think he's living an authentic life on the compound. You'd think Eli would be more proud of Gideon than his own children.
  13. That was John Calipari or Coach Cal, a famous college basketball coach. Corporations and big firms definitely pay big speaker fees for their employees to watch them. Usually popular politicians. But Cal is a "winner" so they probably want to hear from a winner. Plus Prince is a former college basketball player.
  14. Was like 4 minutes of Rue staring at that candy and trying to open it. She finally opened it after Ali accepted her apology? So there's a decent person under there beneath the monstrous addict? Scene in the kitchen of Nate and Marsha seemed like a bonding moment but she was telling him repeatedly that he was demented and she doesn't know why. It was unreal, them sharing drinks, an underage teen and his mother, while Cal's piss was still on the foyer floor. All their parents seem to believe that these kids are still underage but they're mostly grown up so let them live their lives, even though it's under their own roofs. Sure knows Cassie is messed up too but she doesn't try to stop her from going off with that psycho. Minka Kelly, who looks smoking, treats Maddy like one of her girlfriends, having the type of conversation a grown woman might have over drinks with other women. She apparently didn't invest in a security system or else Nate might not have been able to have his little late night visit in Maddy's bedroom. I don't even remember what Nate did in season 1 but he's like some 18-year old criminal mastermind, figuring out exactly how he's going to terrorize Maddy. He probably thinks Maddy will leave him alone, even though now he and Cassie are going to cohabitate and probably humiliate Maddy. Fez and Ash think they have nothing to worry about, while the other dealer is a park to the cops about the guy Ash killed. Meanwhile, Lexi the good daughter is over at the drug dealer's place, where an actual murder occurred, holding hands with the drug dealer who beat up Nate. Again, alert parenting. But the most incredible thing in this episode is that Jules still has a laptop with a DVD drive.
  15. If they're willing to get naked or in bikinis, they will be able to film hot tub parties since BD franchises seem to be emphasizing drunken antics now.
  16. Taylor isn't trying to run a pro sports team. Lets say Taylor wants to fund Wifi to Africa. Prince said with his $10 billion he could fund the Wifi project with $150 million cap ex for years. Is that the kind of thing they want to do to make a difference? First of all a lot of residents in Africa don't even have access to safe running water or electricity. A lot of them have phones but it's not unknown that they have to travel to recharge them. There's also the dubious utility of Wifi for everyone. Look at what going online has done for industrialized nations. Certainly productivity but it's allowed extremists to find and recruit people, spread disinformation. Very likely if we didn't have the web, social media or instant messaging, we'd be doing a lot better during the pandemic and there would be far less political polarization. Africa already has a very low vaccination rate because it imported the anti-vaxx disinformation from other countries to add to their own misinformed ideas. Bringing free Wifi to the masses sounds good on paper but it's more messy than one would assume. Taylor doesn't have $100 million and she's been working for Axe and now Prince for what 4-5 years? They could earn money more faster but it would still take them decades, because they're going to raise their target again once they approach $1 billion. Also what does it say about Chuck that he aligns with telecoms and phone carriers, among the most hated companies there are to block free Wifi for NYC residents? You know it's true too, every time a smaller city builds their own fiber network, the cable companies and telecoms upgrade the infrastructure in that city and keep the prices down. So they've been doing an end-run, buying state legislators to pass laws barring municipal broadband.
  17. After that run uphill to the mat, you'd think they'd want to drink something.
  18. First of all the title, "burn rate" refers to how much a struggling company is spending. Typically about startups which haven't established consistent revenues. You never hear about hugely profitable companies having a burn rate. They want to refer to the money Prince is spending on this Olympics bid and maybe what individual people are spending? Hard to tell if all those tallies for the money each character was spending is suppose to impress viewers or repulse them. Sure there's aspirational things but if that's what those onscreen numbers are about, it's akin to "advertorials" which you saw in magazines sometimes where they have pictures of people, usually famous people, all decked out in fancy, expensive clothes, with the caption listing the prices and brand names. Or are they showing that all these people have expensive tastes and habits and they all have a "number" at which they'd quit and do something else, like some vague idea of doing good or making the world better, as Taylor talks about. Of course a lot of people are probably thinking of a number in their heads, after which they are independently wealthy and could spend their time doing something else. Taylor wants to amass $100 million and quit to help people. But they're wearing $180k worth of items, including a very expensive watch. The clothes don't look like anything special -- is it the labels and the price lists which are suppose to impress? You can't even see the watch that is well over $100k. Remember when Taylor first worked at Axe Capital and they were looking at a fancy, expensive apartment? Connerty tried to flip her, appealing to their ideals, challenging them if Axe could buy them, make them compromise themselves. Well obviously they were willing to sell out (for very expensive Patek Phillipe watches among other things), though they told themselves that they would make enough money some day to make a big difference. Prince quickly figured out Taylor's number, told them they're not independently wealthy, made them raise their number to $1 billion. What a crock, $100 million IS independently wealthy anywhere, anytime. Is the show trying to show the greed of Wall Street or explain it and put it in a favorable light? Because the first couple of episodes of the season, they were going on about inequality and taking down the "billies" -- kind of talk which probably isn't common in NYC. They didn't show the numbers for Chuck but he probably wasn't wearing a suit from Men's Warehouse. They didn't show numbers for Sacker either when she was around Chuck. But as soon as she signed on with Prince, before she probably even got her first paycheck, she was wearing over $30k in clothes with a new hairdo and being chauffeured around in a fancy car. She joined because Prince convinced her that he would help her realize her political ambitions. BTW, first Wendy and then Prince accosted her in the street. Stalking much? Kate should be skeeved out when Prince jumps in front of her while she's jogging the streets of NYC -- do a lot of people do that or would they jog in the park or at a fancy gym? The Olympics plot is ridiculous. First of all, Chuck's stunt worked? Give me a break, people would recognize it for the grandstanding that it was. Prosecutors are often ambitious people. They want to work big cases, get on camera a lot and use that fame to run for higher office, like Kate Sacker expressed in this episode -- of course she's going to bail on Chuck and his vendettas. Then Chuck is able to get the Boss and Bon Jovi to hold a private concert for the IOC members who are looking to be corrupted? These rock stars have fuck-you money so why would they bother? WTF do they care about Olympics in Jersey? Wags arranges expensive prostitutes -- one of them is working on her Ph.D, which is a cliche -- and some expensive, hard to obtain drugs for them. Prince doesn't want to know about how they have to corrupt people but of course he does know. Wendy wants to coach the Olympics athletes? Even if Prince does bring the games to NY, the athletes already have coaches and counselors working with them for YEARS. Wendy doesn't want to devote that kind of time plus she already has a day job and kids that she neglects. This is Wendy's idea of making a difference.🙄 But then they have wide shots of the people at MPC with huge numbers over their heads, running upwards. These are suppose to be the numbers they're targeting or the money they're making every minute. If it's truly their "burn rate" it would be the numbers they're spending on fancy watches or how about the ridiculous $350 vegan snacks from Whole Foods or some fancy candy that Rian and Taylor were munching on as they did some late night research at the office which was valued at $2 million? Or that fancy coffee that Prince served to Sacker? Makes you think the rich chase things just because they have a high price label, not because these things are intrinsically that valuable. I forget the price on the coffee but it was several hundred or over a thousand. There is no coffee worth 200-300 times what you can get at a cafe or buy to grind your own at home. Again, does the show think these high price labels impress viewers or make them mad? Actually, they just make viewers roll their eyes at the show.
  19. Found this article, which recites several recent polls. https://www.usnews.com/news/the-report/articles/2022-02-11/bidens-loss-isnt-trumps-gain He is down in some key demographics, which he won in 2020. Overall, some Republicans like DeSantis are not kowtowing to him.
  20. The truckers may cause auto workers and other associated workers to lose a lot of wages as they’re unable to transport parts across those bridges and borders. Auto factory workers are well paid, better than frontline workers. But they’re not elites, who are supposedly making out in the pandemic. Canada may be on the verge of forcibly removing trucks. Bill said something about how they have the right to refuse pharmaceuticals meaning vaccines in this case. Sure but supposedly 90% of Canadian truckers are vaccinated. Unvaccinated truckers can cross the border but they’re subject to quarantines. They’re not being denied their livelihoods at all. Just that they made a choice to make things more difficult for themselves. other thing, the funding for the protests are coming from the US, at least a substantial portion. It’s probably another astroturf campaign, like those angry school board confrontations in the fall were scripted and funded by right wing organizations.
  21. Savoir seems to make enough money. Sylvie lived in a palace in the center of Paris. Did you see the wide shot of the fake Peleton bike in a large room with huge windows? The employees seem to be happy. Only thing lacking is AC in the Savoir offices. Madeline just wanted Savoir to extract maximum fees from clients, because that would probably make her look good, get her promotions and bigger bonuses.
  22. Sarah has done a few episodes. I don’t recall anyone else in Costa Rica. Most of the CR episodes seem to be in oceanside towns. If there are big cities down there they haven’t shown them. All of the places were meh but she chose a location in town instead of some isolated place.
  23. Funny breaking of balls when the Pauly was mocking Deena for taking the pet psychic's advice too much to heart. Mike thanked Vinny for not being his godfather. So of course the baptism was purely for TV. No way him half self-dunking and being dunked by Uncle Nino is going to count for a damn thing. Wonder if they will even bother to show the kid getting baptized, even though Mike's baptism was supposedly so his son can get baptized. OK, Mike didn't choose the venue for the next vacation any more than Deena chose the Poconos or Pauly chose that Lake Vegas place. It's whatever place MTV can get to let them film and pretty much have free run of the place. The ones with the kids probably didn't want to be too far away from home so it's some Caribbean resort. Probably some of the cast wouldn't want to as far as Italy again.
  24. I think she was going from having domestic help in Dubai to signing up to do all the domestic work by herself, even though the husband was going to be working from home. So maybe she thought the only way she can watch her daughter while working in the kitchen was to be able to see her daughter from the kitchen at all times. That makes sense if the kitchen overlooked the backyard where she could have put the daughter. But the one house had the option of a room adjacent to the kitchen so they made that into a playroom. She admitted she hadn't though about her daughter having be spend a lot of time inside because of rain. So the playroom next to the kitchen worked out.
  25. I recall a lot of shots from outside the cars so they may have decided to have the camera crews in other vehicles. Maybe added to the traffic congestion on those 2-lane roads. I don't recall shots from inside the cars, like dash cams or maybe a camera in the mirror. Certainly no shots from the back seats. Maybe they could only get convertibles? They seemed to be automatic transmissions so no mention of driving manual. Now if the racers wanted to put the top up, would they have been able to?
