  1. Nevermind by Nirvana was released in 1991. So grunge might have been talking off but Cal might have been in too conservative a milieu to be into that "hippie/lumberjack" music. INXS got a lot of radio play but I didn't think they were that big a deal. But Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan speculated on their podcast that the clearance fees to use so much INXS on this episode would cost a fortune.
  2. Strange with BJ that he'd be closeted or maybe in denial himself when his family seems like they'd support him, regardless of his orientation. You'd think he came from a conservative, homophobic family.
  3. My guess is the producers wanted them to have a convo about it, first with Rayna and then with Heather. Lee probably wanted nothing to do with it, because it would be phony, for the cameras discussion. So Eddie got roped into it but this is a TV show, he doesn't really care if Rayna and Heather get along for the week or less that they have remaining of the season. So he's only going to push so far. Rayna doesn't want to be part of the circus either but looks like previews show Heather trying to be melodramatic, making Rayna accept her apology. Didn't Rayna already tell her they were good but then in her own TH, said she'd never forget or forgive Heather? Unless they showed Heather that TH and she takes it upon herself to confront heather, it's probably again another producer-driven showdown they're going to have in the finale. Why would either of them bother, they're probably never going to see each other in person again? But they're going to be forced to go through with the charade.
  4. OK good point, I've heard that Peloton people get addicted to the fad. The other part of it is for the very rich to have privacy. Don't they have cams showing their faces to others in the workout session?
  5. I get that Fez and Ash grew up with a "gansta" grandma, that they've kind of been bred to be aggressive and prone to violence like pit bulls. But Ash is like 12 or 13 at most? He may have a fierce scowl all the time but he doesn't have the strength yet to handle those guns, especially not cut a grown man's head open with the butt of that shotgun unless the man lets him. As soon as Ash raises the rifle to hit him with the butt of the shotgun, Cal could easily grab it and take it away from him. Still not sure where these kids are suppose to live. Certainly Cal's family seems affluent, with Nate already having a pick up that could cost well over $50k. Rue referenced classmates who had great grades and were likely headed to elite universities, didn't she? Cal himself was suppose to go to Duke. Yet apparently not too far from these affluent kids, you have drug dealers running little shabby convenience stores as a front. And then you have that woman drug dealer too, where they make people strip. Kids from rich families do drugs, get into all kinds of shenanigans. Unlikely though that kids into all these types of extracurricular activities would also be headed towards elite universities, no matter how rich their families -- for instance those kids on Laguna Beach, they're all from rich families but they prioritized other things than school and none of them went to any major universities, probably because they don't have money worries even without college education.
  6. Looked like they were eating venison or rack of lamb, with those bones sticking out of the slabs of meat? Where would they get that in the islands? Maybe that kind of meat is best eaten right out of the grill or the oven, not as good re-heated later? Yeah it's strange, they show the crew have crazy schedules to make sure there are people always available to attend to the guests so why for lunch would they all eat together? Usually it's complaints about nobody being around in the mornings to get the guests coffee or other drinks or take their breakfast orders.
  7. Wags is probably worth high 8-figure or well into 9 figures. So he's not going to have a personal trainer and some dedicated gym space? They just plopped that big piece of exercise equipment into a regular living room looked like. I think there would be low compliance with those rings. People would take them off when not at work. Even then it was suppose to be purely voluntary, though in some professions, a request for voluntary participation isn't really voluntary. People read it as doing it so the boss doesn't notice that you didn't obey. In any event, Prince and his right-hand man got nothing better to do than monitor the heart rates of employees? They'd have some underling doing that and coming up with a nice executive summary of the data.
  8. Made up stuff like Vinny getting someone pregnant is so easy to disprove. Why would he be that bothered. And the rest would just roll their eyes. Yeah you have to wonder if he really sold his home in Staten Island and bought in LA. I can see where he would get lonely, because he doesn't know many people out there and Ronnie and Pauly aren't hanging out with him. Makes you think other than the female cast, the male cast really do not spend much time with each other when they're not doing the show. For one thing, Pauly has his career and assuming it's real, a relationship with a live-in gf. Ronnie has his own mess so it's not like they're out there going out to clubs together during the pandemic. He talked about his career but other than his MTV shows he had that one stint with the strip show? I guess he hasn't monetized his celebrity into a big social media following, selling or touting some products, not like some of the other cast. You'd think Angelina, Deena and Jenni would be pissed if they go out there to find Vinny was moving back the next day. So producers probably clued them in. They had to have something to do on the show before they all come together as a group for a "vacation" again. So this trip to cheer him up is all concocted. Probably not that common for people to fly across the country to surprise someone.
  9. An apology from either would purely be for show. Please spare us that BS.
  10. Glen with the see no evil, hear no evil act while the cast act like the those on other BD shows, drunken and sloppy.
  11. They always do a white party or some other formal dress up every season don’t they? better than the costume theme parties where they dress up in something more garish. They just happen to have big wigs and pirate hats for Hamilton. Didn’t know Hamilton was a pirate. All to have Eddie mug for the cameras. maybe the preference sheets would be easier to follow if it wasn’t like some contract with all the verbiage, instead of condensed to a few bullet points. But it’s a damn narrative that the crew has to read on camera. do guests set the agenda on real charters or does the charter company set out a menu of things they can offer, in terms of food and drink choices and some excursions like those beach or onshore meals where they make the crew lug all the heavy stuff up a hill or stairs, just to stress them out on camera? guessing the charters offer picnics or maybe arrange meals at restaurants but they don’t do the silly things like make the crew set up under exhausting conditions.
  12. Kids are so spoiled. Eli has indulged them so much, looks like we're going to see the start of them being spoiled. Yet despite being grown adults now they throw tantrums if they don't get everything they want. KJ was right though, for supposed spiritual leaders and being highly successful, the Gemstones are trashy. You wonder if very rich evangelical ministers would send their children to schools where they'd hobnob with other children from rich families, maybe polish some rough edges. Or is the show about ungodly characters posing as spiritual leaders?
  13. Do drug addicts dance that well? Or have such eclectic tastes in music or did they just want to have Zendaya look cool and talented? Cal’s backstory and timeline is confusing. He’s a senior in high school or the same age as Nate now, around 17-18? So he obviously gets Marsha pregnant and marries her. Nate must have a much older sibling, because there is no way present day Cal is only 34-36? That backstory was early 90s at the latest, before grunge, since they didn’t feature any grunge music or flannel plaids. So it’s been 30 years, Cal is still in the closet and terrified of being found out, in 2021? He had a strict father yet he got to do anything he wanted, including hooking up with Derek in a gay bar? Cal may be screwed up but it would really be surprising if there are still a lot of closeted people these days. Think they should go light on the breaking of the 4th wall with Rue directly addressing the camera or Lexi’s little show within a show. Show does a good job of immersing you in the music and ambience of these characters’ lives so why pull back? Rue’s business proposition makes no sense. She tried to get Fez to front her $5k in drugs. Then she talks the woman drug lord into fronting her $10k in drugs, something about her valedictorian friends uploading to the cloud and she can blackmail them or something! Or will she just do all the drugs despite the woman threatening to sell her if she steals her money? No way Rue is maintaining a 3.97 GPA unless there’s serious grade inflation going on. Or maybe that’s why momma Bennett is so clueless about what Rue has been up to, somehow she pulls great grades despite being in a drug fog most of the time.
  14. He wasn't canceled by liberals or progressives, whom Bill accuses of being perpetrators of the cancel culture. He was canceled by right-wing outrage for saying 9/11 terrorists are not scared.
  15. They're suspect. For instance when they were rising to the peak of the Omicron wave, they reported no deaths, even though they were approaching 100k cases a day. Also early on in the pandemic, they were reporting like 45 deaths for several days in a row, the exact same number. Their surgeon general said recently testing is overrated. We also know that they'v tried to suppress outside reporting of covid data.
  16. Bari's little niche is feigning outrage at liberals. It got old after 3 minutes but she's been going to that well for years.
  17. On masks outside, there was an early Japanese study in 2020 which quantified the risk of spread outside to be like 19 or 20 times less than indoors. But that was all BEFORE Alpha, Delta and Omicron. Delta is estimated to be up to 8 times more infectious than the original Wuhan strain. Omicron is even more infectious than Delta. That said, I generally don't mask outside unless required to, as in some countries I've visited, such as Monaco. So the risk isn't zero but with wind and wide spaces, the aerosols containing any virus would disperse quickly. When I go for walks, I carry a mask but don't wear it. When I come across other people, I just step out a little onto the street from the sidewalk or cross the street. I would not want to be in a crowd, shoulder to shoulder for long periods. Problem with big events like say football games may not be being close to someone else for hours but rather going into bars or restaurants before or after games or maybe riding a bus to the game or some parts of the stadium may have bottlenecks when you enter or exit where you have to stand shoulder to shoulder in a slow moving crowd for say 10-20 minutes or longer.
  18. Bill and Bari: "vaccines only protect you, they don't protect others from you if you're infected." CDC: Vaccinated and boosted people are 5X less likely to get infected by Omicron, 14X less likely to get infected by Delta, versus an uninfected person. https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/01/unvaccinated-5x-more-likely-to-get-omicron-than-those-boosted-cdc-reports/ But go ahead, keep spreading that disinformation on social media Bari.
  19. So much BS spewed from the monologue to the Covid discussion 8n the panel. Bill is obviously an anti masker and anti all NPIs. Bill and Weiss said, vaccines don’t protect others so fuck it, let’s drop everything. Then Bari babbling about a moral crime because schools were closed in some places. The moral cr8me is having kids infect adults in their household, some of whom are more vulnerable to serious disease. The moral crime is hand waving the record number of cases now, with almost 2800 Americans deaths reported today. We still don’t have a clear idea of how many people will be affected by long Covid, how long they will have symptoms. But Omicron is mild! Bari is over it! first, vaccines DID protect others when Alpha was the dominant variant. Then in the summer and fall, Delta became dominant and it had mutations which allowed it to infect people with waning immunity, 6 months after vaccination. But boosters raised efficacy vs. infection. now Omicron breaks through even boosted people, but you’re way better off and you don’t spread it nearly to the same extent as unboosted or unvaccinated people. Bari says cloth masks are useless. No shit you dishonest bitch, that is why they’re distributing N95 masks this very week. Bari says all adults have had vaccines available to them for over a year. No you liar, it took until spring of last year for most people to be able to get a vaccine appoint, ent. bill cites all these measures Uk is dropping. Go ahead and omit the fact that Boris Johnson is in a lot of political trouble right now so he’s try8ng to distract the voters over there by dropping all Covid NPIs. all these “mild” Omicron cases just gives the virus billions more replication cycles to mutate. But let’s have a party like Florida! So what if DeSantis is cooking the numbers! California is so gloomy because some venues do check your vaccination status.
  20. For a time, US was not allowing UK or EU citizens to come to the US. They had to go spend 2 weeks in Mexico or something. So depending on when they filmed, it may have been the case that she wouldn't be able to come to the US. I think they lifted that in early November or something like that.
  21. Guess it depends on how long they plan to stay there. If they're still there and the kids are like 13 or 14 or older, it would be very trying living situation, sharing one bathroom among two adults and two teens. But if they plan to move again, either in Belgium or some other city, they can probably deal with it in the short term.
  22. Maybe they decided on the basis of budget? First place had more bathrooms but the difference is $350, though it would have been $250 out of pocket. Sometimes children who move around because one of their parents is in the military don't like leaving friends they make behind. But they're young and enthusiastic -- do they even eat pear or do they prefer candy?
  23. But are they corny, kind of like a middle-aged Donnie and Marie?
  24. So between seasons of Searching for Italy, Stanley apparently filmed this series in Spain, about searching for sunken treasure. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10714778/ Lukewarm reviews in Europe. It will premier on AMC Plus today.
