  1. I like the goatee, which surprises me because usually I'm not a fan of them. But my take on that storyline is that it's Tim's face and he's the only one who gets to decide what to do with it. I liked the episode up to the moment when it turned out the element must be extraterrestrial. Mainly cause I hate that "aliens did it" crap.
  2. I've never seen the long version, which is why I didn't realize Lil Wayne was in it.
  3. Every time I see that commercial, all I think is "why are they using the Modelo beer music?".
  4. The evidence on that is actually sketchy, but it is possible. It's also possible that she was sexually precocious without ever having been abused by anyone. Either way, she was something of a fool to not realize her lack of virginity might be a problem and that having an affair with someone else was incredibly stupid, given what had happened to her cousin. But at least in every other dramatization of her story I've ever seen, she didn't act like a medieval hooker, unlike in The Tudors.
  5. I majored in Medieval & Renaissance Studies in college and my specific area of interest was 14th Century England. So imagine my extreme chagrin at not getting Edward III. I've written papers on aspects of his court, ffs! In my defense, something about the clue made me think they wanted the name of the French king (which was Philip VI, so that was clearly wrong, given that it specified the III king of that name). Towson State should be calling any minute demanding their degree back, methinks. I did well overall in that game and FJ was an instaget. The less said about last night's game for me, the better. Although I did get FJ through the process of "Khanate? Genghis Khan? Mongol Horde? Golden Horde!". Damn, I was rooting for David. So close. ☹️ I was actually worried that 1950 was too recent for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I went with my first instinct.
  6. If World on Fire was any indication, PBS cuts stuff out for Passport. I find in unrealistic that any of the original non-nun midwives would still be there so many years later.
  7. I seem to remember her being just as shallow about engagement rings when Tom proposed, but that was quite a few seasons ago. I could be misremembering. There was, of course, the whole freak out about the tiara before the wedding.
  8. Well, I'd much rather Arsenal had won, but a non-loss at the Etihad is pretty damned good. They hadn't managed that since 2016. And a two-point difference with Liverpool is far from insurmountable.
  9. I haven't cared about college basketball since I was in high school, but I did end up watching the last 5 minutes or so of the NC State/Duke game. Damned if that was enjoyable. Took me back to when I did care, circa the Wolfpack's last appearance in the Final Four.
  10. Didn't watch the Super Bowl so I didn't see the commercial. Is it the one with the giant champagne bottle smashing the window? Because I don't remember seeing Lil Wayne in that one.
  11. The fight scene set to Cat's in the Cradle reminded me of the shootout set to George Michael's Father Figure in the movie Keanu. It was hilarious.
  12. I don't think the modeling industry has changed much in that respect. As much as Fred dying would've made sense, given how frequently patients with tetanus do (1-2 people out of every 10 who get it, according to the CDC website), I'm so glad he didn't because he's always been one of my favorite characters. And Cliff Parisi really deserves a meaty storyline; he was extremely good here. I knew he was going to get ill after that cut, but didn't think of tetanus until the first muscle spasm hit. Then it was obvious. I didn't interpret her reactions as being entirely about the appearance of the brace. She seemed pretty upset that her daughter was clearly uncomfortable and thought it was actual pain. Honestly, I thought last season should've been her last. Marrying Matthew would've given her a good exit storyline. Logically she wouldn't still be working at the same level in the same district for so many years. I definitely think it's time for Trixie to be moving on, as much as I like the character. I don't think it's out of character for Trixie at all. I just think in previous seasons we saw more of her doing other things so it wasn't so obvious.
  13. Honestly, Nolly (as presented here) did seem really hard to work with and definitely a bit of a bully, so I don't blame the director for saying that. Although thinking the network guy wouldn't use that against her if it suited him was very naive. Still, I couldn't help but feel indignation at how Nolly was treated by so many of the men who'd had power over her life and career. Val was a real piece of work in that respect, to both her and his wife. And the end, oh man, that absolutely had me tearing up.
  14. And honestly, there's nothing wrong with that. Many moves, both within a country and abroad, are because one adult in the family wants it. Especially when it's a short-term move, which is what this one was presented as being. Plus, this show is fake as hell, so the narrative given in the episode probably only bore a very limited resemblance to the truth anyway. (I'll confess to being a bit biased because I absolutely would've insisted on the place right by the beach.)
  15. I got FJ pretty quickly. I thought of Turkmenistan first but realized there was at least one closer to the end of the alphabet. Uzbekistan popped into my mind pretty quickly after that. (Weird note: I forget a lot of capital cities, but I will always know that Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. So watch them change it next week.) Never even considered Ukraine, though. I was rooting for Dhruv, but was fine with any of the contestants winning. And Victoria was a beast on the buzzer. I know it but sometimes the word is in my brain and won't surface in time and this was one such occasion. Needing a specific number of letters often trips me up.
  16. And yet Angie is still in it at this point. So we'll see how valid the criticism turns out to be.
  17. Kind of a Latin American version of the full English breakfast. That probably is how it started out. Like the aforementioned English breakfast. Nicolas and Donald (grandson & grandfather) made it to the final 3 in AR12. And they're not the only less physically impressive team to make it that far. I've definitely enjoyed the seasons with a wider range of contestant types more than those with mostly young, strong teams. I was hoping for that. God knows there were enough negative comments during the seasons which were mostly 20-something alphas. Some people aren't happy no matter the what mix of contestants. I wouldn't assume that. We've been surprised before.
  18. While I found them rather annoying overall, I have to agree about that bathroom. Sorry, but bathrooms have sounds and smells I do not want in the bedroom. I absolutely would, especially if it's not forever.
  19. it's got to do with having people at the different task locations during covid restrictions. They didn't want the crew spread out too much. Since this is the last season with those restrictions, I don't really get worrying about it.
  20. No fair, Jeopardy, making my very first Jeopardy boyfriend play my 2nd most recent Jeopardy boyfriend! (Cris Panullo was my most recent one.) Don't worry, though, Brad - you'll always be the One Jeopardy Boyfriend to Rule Them All. Not a great game. There were a lot of stumpers and no one got FJ. To be fair, neither did I. At least Monica didn't win. I couldn't stand her during her original appearances, couldn't stand her during the All-Star tournament, couldn't stand her on Masterminds. If I'd been forced to choose at gunpoint, I'd have been rooting for Sam too. I've never read the book or seen the movie, so I had no chance of getting FJ.
  21. It was steep and narrow with no railings, but still, man up. This season was filmed while still under covid restrictions in a lot of places. I imagine they released teams in bunches for logistical reasons which wouldn't have existed without the pandemic. Seems right to me.
  22. Duuuudes, you were so, so useless. It did sound really good. Not fond of chicarrones, but otherwise, yum. Yes, Lena & Kristy during the haystack challenge in AR6 and Marshall & Lance at Giza in AR5 both got Philiminated in the field. Although technically M&L quit because Marshall's knees were too bad for him to keep going. But Phil came out to tell them everyone else had already checked in. Idk, but they do. Most of them power through but there was that one girl during the Globetrotters first season (AR15) who wouldn't go down the really high water slide because she was afraid of heights, I believe. Maybe? I forget how many switches constitute a regular bald snark.
  23. Mine neither. Did not get FJ. I knew meso meant middle but other than that, I was clueless. Sometimes too much knowledge hurts too. Or we can't make our brains work the right way in the moment. All I could think of was "socket", like a wall socket. But yeah, that's not obnoxious enough for Tesla. So port was kinda disappointing in its simplicity.
  24. Ah, makes sense now. Thanks. 🙂 Yes, this was one of the new apartment blocks built by the council to house people who'd been moved out of the horrible places. It was probably built quickly and as cheaply as possible, though, so shoddy workmanship and materials happened.
