  1. 😄 😊 😋
  2. ALL OF THIS! I'm just aghast at what they did to Cole's character It's like Cole (J.J.) bailed from this sinking ship and Treem + the team decided to bitchslap punish him every single time he was brought up. No mention of Cole this entire season except for when Noah told Joanie he always thought Ben killed Alison and admitted to a grudging respect for him bore the slightest resemblance to the Cole Lockheart we knew in seasons 1-4.
  3. thank you
  4. What book was Joanie reading in The Lobster Roll?
  5. She also does it with "Mawn Tauk"!
  6. You get that I was making fun of the way Whitney said "awp tics" while she was being horrible to her mother right? 😄 Thank you I missed Helen asking about little Eddie...must have dozed off.
  7. Oh definately, I can talk about TV series I watch with all of you here! 🙂 I meant a forum where the conversation can just naturally flow wherever it goes without breaking any rules. I'm not scoffing at the rules either, if the subject matter wasn't confined to that that has to to with the TV show and the episode being discussed we'd have thousand page threads and no one could ever catch up and join the convo.
  8. Six Feet Under set the bar (very high!) against which all series finales will be judged. You can almost feel it in the air that other writers and producers want to stop short of absolutely copying it.That finale was extremely well done and I can't hear that song Breathe Me by Sia without tearing up! I said upthread that I own In Treatment on DVD (and I don't buy DVD's). I own one other series, Six Feet Under!
  9. I just signed up here a week or so ago, but I've really enjoyed the discussions! Over the years I got heavily involved in 2 forums where I posted for years and both died out to make two long stories short. Does anyone know of any lively forums that are open to all?
  10. Yes! Cole would have NEVER told Joanie they were better off without her(Alison)! Did I actually hear that? I'm going to have to listen to that closely when I re-watch the episode. I too, will miss discussing the series with you all! I was reading a season 2 thread looking for something and ran across Sturm und Drang* and had to look that up. I'm conflicted about this finale. I got teary-eyed during the Helen / Noah scenes which I guess is because the actors are just so damned good. I've always wanted better for Helen and have never believed exes who've gotten to this point would make their way back to each other. I have a feeling when I watch it again it's going to anger me more. Just like last week. I also agree that Alison seemed like the one who often didn't seem present in the moment rather than Helen. The timeline stuff drives me batty too, so I've decided not to waste my time trying to figure it out. I thought of Noah saying there was a month to plan the wedding, then Furcat asked Whitney what were you doing in Montauk in December. Colin's mum was arriving at 10? (or was it 9?). So was that a.m. or p.m.? Because in January I'm pretty sure it's dark between 4:30 and 5:30 in the afternoon in Montauk. A poster here pointed out to me the other day that Alison is supposed to have died in 2021. However I always thought Noah's prison sentence was 3 years. Was it actually 5? All of this just makes my head hurt and it never ends up making sense. I can't believe how much I used to enjoy True Blood with Anna Pacquin. I enjoyed her in a movie set in the 70's called Free Ride and Almost Famous has long been a favorite of mine, but I'm sorry, she is awful in this. The whole Joanie the coastal engineer her family and the look into the future as as well grown up Eddie (E.J.) and the Ben nonsense added nothing to this series as far as I'm concerned. Also Libertarianslut you are so right; the whole Janelle / Carl story line didn't need to take up so much of this last season of The Affair Spin them off or something because they were just as compelling as other characters we see on TV, but it all just seemed weirdly out of place here...just as so many other random characters and incomplete story lines did. Plus their story wasn't done any justice or resolved here anyway. Being as it was part of the season, I can accept Joanie receiving info from E.J. just a little bit easier now knowing he spent some time living in Montauk and working for Noah. I was never going to buy Helen his next door neighbor in California whiling away the hours talking to little E.J. about Alison and Alison's first in-laws meaning Cole's family. Even if Noah ended up moving into Helen's house, by the time E.J. gets to the age to be reading novels I just don't see E.J. becoming obsessed with Lana the the character based on Alison and her supposedly traumatic life. Though it still doesn't explain why he was hanging out in the cemetery. I don't like that Noah ended his days walking around the Lobster Roll where he met Alison. It does almost seem like some sort of slight to Helen and a tribute to Alison. Risking an old man with dementia getting pneumonia or worse, drowning was ridiculous. It would have been a very different wedding if I was writing this show. As soon as Whitney answered Helen's question why am I here ... if this is how you feel about me? with "awp tics it would have looked terrible. I didn't want any empty seats" . I, the videographer would have been long GONE! and I'd have taken my dress with me! Whitney's personality is trash start to finish! I give poor Colin 6 months. Why was Sierra there with her director as her plus one? Did we ever hear Sierra and Whitney exchange so much as one word? Was she there because they all had to escape the Ca. wild fires? If so where was little Eddie? *a late 18th century German literary movement characterized by works containing rousing action and high emotionalism that often deal with the individual's revolt against society. [in German it literally means storm and stress]
  11. I know it basically means diligent / hard working (like Whitney saw herself on her terrible day at work), but now I can't remember who said it and in what context in this episode? __________________________________________________________________________________________ Anyone here "resilient" enough to relive this trauma by watching the marathon run up to the finale? Put me in the camp who fast-forwards past the theme song. I'm over it despite liking Fiona Apple. I was over that whole of the moon song by the end of the episode too.
  12. Cole and Helen were good! Ok, I'll stop 😄
  13. Thank you for this Preeya! I was wondering what last name was on Helen's headstone. As she'd gone back to Butler, should we conclude from this that she and Noah remarried?
  14. I just recently ( in the past few days) read that it was In Treatment that was based on an Israeli show. I took notice because I have that series on DVD. One disc is in my computer right now because we lost cable last week and I re-watched it. here's a link to the article: https://www.haaretz.com/life/television/the-affair-wins-big-at-golden-globes-1.5359176 "Treem created the show with Israel's Hagai Levi, who created and directed the highly acclaimed Israeli TV series Betipul, which was adapted to become HBO's Emmy award-winning "In Treatment."
  15. I started reading the ep 11 thread and realized I forgot to watch at midnight!
  16. how many can you count? 1 Did Noah ever see Joanie again after moving to Ca when she was 6 or 7? 2 Did Noah lose his teaching job? 3 If Noah doesn't get screenwriting credit for the movie made from Desent, does he stay broke? 4 Did any of the 6 women bring civil suits against Noah? 5 Did Helen sue when she lost the job with the design firm run by the crazy millenials? 6 Will we find out for sure who E.J. is? 7 Who will raise baby Eddie James? 8 Did Sierra escape her domineering mother? 8 a Did Sierra kill the role of Madame Bovary and become a star in her own right? 9 Did Janelle win the Board of Education office she ran for? 9 a Did Carl and Janelle get back together? 10 Did Sasha Man's step daughter ever get... nevermind. no one cares where has Martin been?
  17. Math problem: When Noah is listening to the depositions w/ Lt. Jeffries the LT. asked Alison how old she was when she and Noah met. She replied 31. Alison Died at 38. Joanie said on her 38th b'day she was the age her mother died. Somehow the Desent book tour 10 years ago? The book tour was after Noah's 3 years in prison, IIRC. Even if it was b4 he went to prison, he was still working on the book during his time w/ Alison. Someone helped me out the other day and told me Alison died in 2021. So do we have time to contact Sarah Treem and ask her not to take up our last year of a show we loved with stuff like Carl and Janelle, Sierra's mom, Elder Ben, ill-natured Joanie in her 30's and her indoor strawberry farm, Sasha man's step daughter and the like?
  18. uh... season 3 that was grim. Plus apparently I'm not the only one who still doesn't completely understand what happened and what didn't. When I rewatch I'm going to take note of Colin's book as an investment line. I don't remember that. In my defense I did fall asleep a few times this season. Do you remember our first look at Colin in Helen's kitchen s4? He seemed sweet and good natured. How funny was it when Colin was practically in tears apologizing to Whitney for being such a slow painter and lamenting he couldn't turn out work like Furcat... a photoghrapher!
  19. Yes! THIS^ Which s5 development was most egregious to you? For me besides Helen + Noah almost certainly reuniting after she wishes dying of cancer and perishing in a house fire on him... and characters like Colin changing completely from one week to another... The WORST had to be E.J. the answer man just happening to be loitering by Joanie's father's grave site, her trying to escape this weirdo stranger the way she came in (on her bicycle), then her tires go flat necessitating taking a ride from said weird stranger. AND their time spent together resulting in E.J. rapid fire blurting out the answers to mysteries that have swirled around in Joanie's mind for the past 3 decades in between movie references and complimenting her "resilience". 🙄
  20. For all my snarking about the writing, the veering so far off course and the addition of extraneous characters... I'll miss it! The acting has always made it totally worthwhile.
  21. Thank you Pallas, Seems I'm / we're not the only ones with some issues with the writing and time line issues. I recalled all that above about Noah extorting Alison to spend one more day with him b4 signing and all that... ... but I had forgotten it was Joanie turning 4 that set Alison off and ultimately landed her in-patient at Woodlawn. I guess she turned 5 at the pony ride nut allergy cake b'day party? eh, as long as they're not taking her from barely 2 to 7 in a year or two I guess I'll reluctantly deal and follow along where they're going until the end, but it's still some mad sloppy writing.(IMO) ...and it will really be extra maddening if they now try and create some super close relationship between Noah and Joanie out of: see ya later Noah I'd hoped you'd bring Joanie with you I'm going to see if I can say goodbye to Joanie When Cole and Luisa ranted (justifiably) about how hard it was to sooth Joanie's terrors over Alison having just disappeared one day, they made no mention of Noah seemingly dropping out of her life too. Nor did they show Joanie asking where her 1st daddy went. I guess we now know why adult Joanie is a little...off.
  22. thank you Pallas I think I so cannot deal with s3 that I continually block it! We were discussing what E.J. might be doing in the finale, and then of course there's that photo of Joanie holding the gun... Someone suggested older Noah and 38 year old Joanie might have a talk where she learns a lot about the circumstances that surrounded her mother's death. So I was trying to figure out who Noah is/was to Joanie and when she would have last seen him with any regularity. If she were 2 when he went to prison and 5 when he came out and Noah spent time in Paris, then on a book tour and then moved to Ca., did he have visits with her between ages 5 and 7? They never showed that or discussions of such, IIRC. With Joanie having to deal with calling Cole daddy, staying with Cole and Luisa, not seeing her mother for 6 mos and then her popping back up and dealing with split visitation... I could see dealing with Noah seeing her not being a priority, especially if he was traveling a lot. When Noah came to see Alison at the apartment she was fixing up for a visit w/ Joanie and she wanted him to sign divorce papers absolutely no mention was made of Noah seeing Joanie. If he didn't stay in her life and see her with regularity, I cannot see adult Joanie looking him up. Was he only known to Joanie as a friend of her mother's they said hello to over facetime occaisionlly?
  23. Razzberry, you're too kind to call it a stretch! Once a woman in Helen's situation has said things to her ex like "Why did it have to he him[Vik]. Why wasn't it you? or "I hope you burn!" There is no coming back from that. Not to mention her response when Noah came to her client's house begging for a 7th chance. Ridiculous. The acting is great though! To me this is just bad writing (storytelling). You cannot reunite exes where you have scorched earth like this and not have most of your audience rolling their eyes. Its a shame, because it appeared they were very possibly poised for a reunion where s4 left off.
  24. I know what you mean, Milburn Stone. The apartment scene and the talk about finances with broody useless Colin AND Whitney working in a gallery was giving me NYC., too. I had to remind myself that the whole family moved out to L.A.. I guess a lot of the Helen and Vik's* and then Helen 's home scenes have shown only Trevor and Stacy because the Whitney and Martin were away at school. *RIP Vik
  25. Yes, that's what I thought I remembered, one convo shown over the computer. However Noah didn't seem to factor in when Cole + Luisa were working out how to re-establish visitation with Alison. They showed no time together and only this one convo that I can recall. Was he already in Ca.? I put Joanie at 5 or 6 there, what do you think? How did she go from a baby under 2 at the time of Cole and Luisa's wedding to 5 or 6 when Alison (missing 6 mos) came out of Woodlawn? She already looked 5 or 6 at the B'day party and that was soon after. Alison decided she wanted to do counseling instead of devoting her time to the Lobster Roll just after she came out, something that frustrated Cole. Then she met Ben at a seminar and started seeing him. So it seems like they aged Joanie 3-4 years in that 6 mos Alison was in-patient. IDK?
