Who else plays can I mute her in time when you sense one of Carrie's ear-splitting screams coming? See, from the preview I was ready for the one when she was sitting outside and the swarm of rats was about to run through... but what was with the next two screams? π± π±when poor innocent Shoe π grazed Carrie's ankle with her furrz and then when Aiden πββοΈlet his own damn self in. How am I supposed to sense that coming? π ποΈ

Even though SATC Charlotte was an old TV friend, I freaking hate this Charlotte! Even the headmaster at the kids' school asked what's with the Charlotte eyes? and thought from the way she was conducting herself a terror attack was happening. IDK whose idea it is to have a woman near 60 responsible for children acting this crazy, MPK and his team of writers? Or less likely... these are acting choices Kristin Davis herself has worked into her portrayal of Charlotte? ....but it has gotten beyond cringe worthy I really wish she'd moved to another continent instead of Samantha. Speaking of which, Seema could never... π Even with those complaints I agree this episode was better than the first one. Shoe continues to be brilliant at acting adorable and fuzzy. It was nice to see Lisette, and a possible suitable match for Miranda, even if it is through work. ...and I'd rather see Carrie get with the gardener (or anyone) than keep going down this well worn path with Aiden... made even more ridiculous with the wait 5 years for me stipulation. .

Aiden's older kids were 17 and 20 and Wyatt, the special needs one was 15. He got in an accident at his mother's [with a car there?] on magic mushrooms and beer and hitch hiked to his dad's farm. He said he needed to be there with them and Carrie asked for how long? Aiden said until Wyatt is out of his teens. Carrie said she'd come visit and then he added the part about no contact.π ...because he'd be too distracted. It's at 32:00 in the s2 finale ep11

Nope. Not just you.

@MamaMax I was just about to post something very similar! It continues to burn me up that they had Carrie marry Big and become obscenely wealthy when he died prematurely. The biggest thing SATC drew criticism for after the friend group being basically all white was Carrie being able to attend fashion shows, live in such a great apartment (which she bought) and afford $400-$600 shoes on a freelance writer's earnings. She bought designer clothes and seemed to browse thrift shops for fun and because she thought vintage fashions were kitchy... rather than out of necessity. They've written themselves into a corner, because what can they do with her character now? If they'd let Carrie's life choices go where they were going to go, her being unable to keep up with Miranda and Charlotte's lifestyles and ability to travel, shop, dine and attend events could've introduced some much needed realism to the show. maybe she'd have been forced to move out of Manhattan? THAT would give her something to scream about! Or maybe she'd have to acquire a room mate? All through the SATC shows, the shitty movies and now this reboot thing they never had Carrie admit to being a social climber or out to snag a really rich guy... it just spontaneously happened.πAt what age? She was 38 when she was dating Petrovsky. What was that thing that went around in the 90's that according to stats a woman getting married in her late 30's was about as likely as being in a terror attack? Some BS like that... Even if that was grossly overstated... really, how likely is it that someone Carrie's age who's not even trying for a rich husband just lucks into marrying one, and then gets all of his wealth well before he grows old and sickly? In fact he was pretty good looking. Look at who Anna Nicole Smith had to marry, for money? ...and I've stated this over and over again, the chances of a woman being able to stay with a man who kept her on the back burner for 10 years while giving it a go with half the women of Manhattan before settling for her are just about nil! How would one look across the breakfast table at him and not be thinking about that?
-
Absolutely. Charlotte's metamorphosis into 50something ditz stands out the most, but they're all doing too much a lot of the time. Charlotte was so much smarter and more likeable early in SATC.
-
Yep! One thing that did actually tick me off in this tepid episode was Carrie not telling Aiden he had some nerve asking her to remain chaste and waiting around for him to sort out his brats kids... for five years! I feel like SATC Carrie would've said I'll be dating and living my life, feel free to call me when you get through all thaT, and we'll see what's what. My mum has a tendency to change passwords often. I haven't changed most of mine since 2008! She thinks one up... usually something to do with her girlhood in London and says confidently "I'll never forget that!" Seconds later, guess what? Forgotten. So I bought her a little book and suggested she note changes she's making in it and date it, then log-in. ...but what do I know? π

I don't believe what i went through to watch that. MAX is free with our cable package, but you have to be signed in on the account of the person whose name is on the bill.... which in my case is my 91 year old mum. She doesn't see well and hasn't been able to remember her user name or password for quite some time. Every season I frantically search for a link to watch AJLT free and risk picking up computer viruses, malware and such. I did it for seasons 1+2 and for some other shows that streamed on (I think) Paramount like Fatal Attraction. Finally this morning at 5 am I gathered my courage and helped her sort it out on her computer by being her eyes. We'd been omitting a period in the middle of her username that isn't there on most of her accounts. After I watched I said to myself, for that? π€

I agree with every word @luna1122again Thanks for saving me the keystrokes! Shoe is cute.

Season 3 Episode 2 βThe Rat Raceβ: Thursday, June 5

This is so true! I have an array of medical problems and see half a dozen doctors and no doctor has touched me since before the pandemic. Come to think of it, I haven't even doffed my street clothes except for one time when I was having a surgical procedure. So there's the healed bite on her arm she's tried to cover up with a tattoo and the bite she sustained on her torso when she and Dina went into that unstable building whilst on patrol. She was shown starting to cut around it with a knife, presumably to try and obscure the fact that it was a bite... but something would've come of that with her in a hospital bed being tended to by medical staff. They would have raised the question of why she was harming herself? [if it truly ended up looking like a cut]

In the world they depicted of Cordecyps infecting people and making them so dangerous to regular humans and the way everyday life had broken down to a struggle for survival... yes a trip across the country would've been very dangerous for Joel and Ellie. and Joel had wisdom and skills to impart to young s1 Ellie. He also was a tall man which might serve as a deterrent if someone along the way had been of a mind to mess with Ellie. Two small of stature women with about 30 years less life experience than Joel with his special skill set would've been more vulnerable and the trip even more challenging. That's why it was so ridiculous for Joel to tell Marlene it was all her when she marveled over the fact they got there. She even stated her team lost members and she herself almost got killed making the trip. I brought the convo up at the top of my post above to say that is the moment I should've stopped watching. So, I agree with you.
-
Not easy to slip into a conversation π I knew what it was from watching a lot of Forensic Files. Are we ever going to learn more about this female savior the Seraphites are always invoking? It sounds like a deity they believe in. Have they ever said her name? Yes, I end up asking a lot of questions about what happened or worse having to rewatch because I'm viewing the show on a small bedroom TV. With the way so many scenes are shot in such a dark fashion it can be hard to see what's going on.
-
Me too. I know the precise moment I should have stopped watching this show. In the convo between Joel and Marlene when he comes to at the hospital she asks "We lost half our crew crossing the country, I had 5 men whose only job was to protect me and I still almost got killed. How did you do it?" Joel replies "It was all her, she fought like hell to get here." IDK why it wouldn't be enough to tell the story of a girl living her mid to late teens during this apocalyptic event where she turns out to be immune instead of quickly succumbing to a bite from one of the infected? Why does she practically have to be a super hero, too? No, Ellie was not singlehandedly responsible for them making it to Salt Lake. She wasn't even 50% responsible as Joel was older, wiser, stronger had skills she didn't that she needed to learn from him, etc. Yes, there were times they had to rely on each which was one of the many things that brought them closer together... but writing "it was all her" is absolutely RIDICULOUS! When s2 opened Jesse was teaching Ellie the skills she needed to overtake a grown man. No, one cannot do anything and everything they desire through sheer force of will. Sorry. Of course the show had Ellie assuming she'd have been one of the 16 best the colony sent to avenge Joel's death is the majority had agreed. She's a shitty member from going off and doing whatever she pleases on patrols to how she wanted to violate the protocol set by the group to not bring infected members back behind the gates. The virus is changing all the time but Dr. Ellie had no doubt she knew just how long Eugene had. π I absolutely saw red last episode when she said to Joel I don't want to ever hear you're taking me off patrol again! and he replies with a meek ok. Excuse me? That's exactly what should happen to someone who won't listen and continually puts themselves and others in danger. and now she's gotten Jesse shot and Tommy's in danger because of her selfish revenge fantasy BS. The actress is 5'1+1/2" tall and the one playing Dina even is even shorter but of course, they had no problem getting from Jackson to Seattle, parking Shimmer and then battling hoards of infected. Can the writers get a grip here? This juvenile fantasy of the central character... a kid overcoming the odds and battling bigger or more numerous adversaries has been done to death! Can they not write something else? ποΈββοΈπ

I can't believe I'm watching this dreck. How are some of you concluding that Jesse was shot? edit: oh II see he's down and she says before I shoot this one too!
-
You know, if Ellie believes so fervently that within her body lies the cure for all humanity, she sure takes a lot of careless chances with it. The fool's errand she's on can't bring Joel back. At least what Joel did he did to save a girl too young to consent to giving her up life for medical experimentation.
-
Has this happened, and I missed Jesse telling Ellie? Or is it something yet to be revealed. thank you
-
My point was that Ellie could have said she objected to Joel's revised version, which he planned to deliver to spare Gayle's feelings... on the ride back. Giving up Joel's lie in such dramatic fashion was giving in to her own impetuous desires like all the not listening on patrols, going off on her own etc.It certainly wasn't with thought to being kinder to Gayle. I just feel this headstrong not very thoughtful Ellie of s2 is less likeable than s1 Ellie. However as she came across more sensitive and thoughtful in s1, I blame the writers/director rather than the actress.
-
I've stated this before... as far as some of us not feeling s2 Ellie as much as s1 Ellie, I think the blame should go to the writer(s) / director. I saw more maturity and sensitivity in her in s1. They are portraying her as carelessly indulging her every whim with no thought of consequences. Like wandering off on patrols, not heeding the direction of those who are far more experienced or have been put in the role of leader etc. Joel told Ellie on the way back that he was going to tell Gayle x,y+z and not give a literal factual accounting of what Eugene said including begging to be spared a little while longer so he could say goodbye. Ellie didn't say then that she had a problem with that. She was so intent on giving up Joel and his lie to Gayle in dramatic fashion that she let it blind her to the very real possibility she would be even more devastated hearing that than she already was by hearing of his death. ...and the writing! Why on earth would Ellie have specific knowledge (moreso than Joel) of how long Eugene had? He's got time, she said. Didn't she specifically cite the interval of one hour? π The look on Ellie's face when Joel told her how he broke her out of the hospital in the s1 finale was one of being conflicted and not knowing whether to believe him completely. That's how they filmed it, and they deliberately used that scene to promote the show in general and to herald it's s2 return. #1. What's with this being treated as a brand new concern of Ellie's now? Really, she's never seen that look on Joel's face? In all their time together? ... or is this supposed to still be plaguing her 5 years later? Without ever bringing it up... because that would be so in-keeping with the way the character conducts herself π (sarcasm) #2. Has anyone ever posed the question to Ellie ( has she asked herself) if Joel was immune and somehow could not give consent, would she allow him to be be killed by having his brain removed for a completely experimental, never done before attempt at making a cure from his tissues... if she had the power to stop it? By one of the Fireflies' doctors with only a hypothesis and no thought of trying to preserve Joel's life π I'm guessing she wouldn't sacrifice him under those conditions, either.
-
I've always thought that if the doctor wanted to just take some of Ellie's blood and tissue to work with, he would not then just turn her back over to Joel so they could return to Tommy and Maria's compound (and Shimmer). It would probably have meant a nightmarish existence for her imprisoned in the Salt Lake facility with the doctor continually using her for source material for his experiments until... π«£ I wonder why Marlene didn't attempt to get the doctor to take that approach, being she was there when Ellie was born? How could the doctor assert that the only way was taking her brain, or enough of it to be fatal?
-
Really. Is poor Shimmer supposed to still be standing in the music store/whatever through all this commotion? You know that word so frequently associated with horses... spook : to make frightened or frantic : scare; especially : to startle into violent activity (such as stampeding)
-
IDK if I missed anyone's mention of it, but what about that last line spoken on the preview of next week's episode? behind a spoiler tag for those that don't watch previews

The main reason Joel's death caused my interest to wane was that they spent so much of s1 developing the Ellie / Joel relationship and they didn't really give us other relationships to care about. It ripped the heart and soul right out of show, for me. The Bill / Frank relationship was very well done but it was over so quickly. S1 Ellie seemed more thoughtful, almost more mature than s2 Ellie. S1 Ellie came across remorseful about sneaking into the mall with her friend (girlfriend?) who ended up dead. Like she realized it was irresponsible to just go off and do whatever you want in such a dangerous situation. She was even reluctant to speak about it at one point seemingly because of the responsibility she felt. S2 has Joel wanting her off patrols because she's apparently ignored protocol and wandered off if she felt like it... it sounded like more than once. As the message is coming from Tommy, she manages to talk her way into going and the first chance she gets she and Dina ignore the group's apprehensions and enter a building that's unsafe structurally and contains infected, where she gets bitten again. What if it had been Dina who'd gotten bitten? She and Dina went off alone to find Joel, and now they've disobeyed the council and gone off alone to avenge his death. Other than being at the very least cold toward Joel, not to mention ungrateful... this trait of being so impetuous, actually careless is the main thing they're showing us of s2 Ellie. I'd expect her to have matured some in 5 years. If I'd only seen s2 Ellie, I doubt I'd like her very much. Yes, she later said her relationship with Joel was complex, that they were good, but still ... I'm struggling to put what I'm thinking into words, but it's like another reason Joel's absence has left such a void is that it appears Ellie's in need of a whole lot more fathering or guidance. I about fell over when the inevitable discussion of she and Dina raising a child together came up. I know she did throw in a mention or two of Jesse, but saying "I'm going to be a Dad"? My thoughts went immediately to 1. are you really ready to be someone's mum, dad, step parent, co-parent of any kind? and 2. I wonder what Jesse (the actual Dad) will have to say about that? Did Dina and Jesse have any discussions about what would happen if their resuming their relationship resulted in a pregnancy? So many questions. Of lesser importance: if I were a young woman living in such times and found a cashe of pregnancy tests, I doubt I'd use up 4 or 5 at once. Is anyone still around making those? I have a 20something family member recently married and starting a family on baby #2 thinking about a 3rd and more and I sometimes ponder being in their situation and how I'd feel bringing children into the world the way it is. It's a hard no for me, and there's not even an apocalypse scenario with roving bands of infected Cordecyps monsters around! I suppose I get it, the community is trying to rebuild. but IDK? π€
