I know I've been stating this in just about every thread (gave you all a break in the ep 7 one) , but I really cannot stand that level of pretense! Every time she speaks to someone it's like she's trying to talk them down from a ledge... someone who's first language isn't English! No one speaks in that crazy deranged fashion. KD's acting choices leave me bewitched, bothered and bewildered! I ask myself why? how did she get here? did she watch old SATC shows and notice a girlish quality she no longer sees when she looks in the mirror and she's overdoing trying to recapture it? She is ruining her reputation and coming across like a LOON! I'll be amazed if she ever gets another acting job. Even though I've been complaining, mainly about finding out where there show ideas come from and why they have so little to do with married 50something women... I have enjoyed 6, 7 and 8 more than the previous ones. (Save for the vomiting, which I'll never forgive them for.) I'm not sure which feelings this new neighbor stirred in Carrie the most but I'll try to state what I thought: When the group of young people said "sorry mam" [after I stopped laughing thinking to myself Carrie: you know that's not the first time you've been called mam! it's probably been happening for 10-15 years now.] Plus I think she got addressed as mam again after that? Anyway, I surmised she was feeling wistful over her lost youth. Especially going through her clothes to clear stuff out; the togs from her 20's 30's and 40's she showed Seema. I imagined she was thinking about the chapters of her life that are closed forever now. Dating and romance in her 20's +30's, the daring fashions, the not being afraid to risk looking ridiculous, etc. Her being the kid on the lawn rather than the old man shooing her off. Maybe she felt envious of this jet set young woman who's was new to to NYC? When she went in to her neighbor's apartment I got that she was checking and ready to get help if the girl appeared to be anything but passed out from too much to drink... or it appeared to me a wave of something crossed Carrie's face. Like being ok with being in this current /different stage of life and not being the hot 30something like she was when she lived in that apartment and met and kissed her dates goodnight on those steps. Like she could stop worrying about appearing to be a stuffy old lady to her neighbor if she had to ask them to keep the noise down. She might be this girl's friend. Maybe a "cool" friend? Seemed she was a bit more relaxed and easing into the "mam" era. Well...not quite. No one likes that! lol

Does anyone have any understanding of why they didn't just put this on HBO, where SATC originally ran? Why HBOMAX? Not every TV in our house is a smart TV, and I'm sure I'm not the only person in that situation. The one I bought most recently for our bdr is, but it doesn't always connect to our wireless network and even though HBOMAX is free to cable subscribers who have HBO... you have to sign in with the account holder's password (in this case my mum) and she can't remember it. So I need to go through some BS with the cable co and have her nearby to give permission. I'm not looking forward to it. TLDR: I have to go significantly out of my way to watch the show.

I think the challenge that disappointed me the most was the combination faux fur and avante garde one. I'm usually very excited for the avante garde one and when I heard it would be combined with faux fur I thought the results would be a runway full of ugly. ...and it sure was (IMO).

I have a lot of coily hair that resembles "Carrie's" hair in length and color. As it's dry, I don't wash it daily. If it's not looking it's best every curl the same low/no frizz and I have to go somewhere I put it up loosely and pull some strands out around my face to soften the look. Why can't the army of stylists on hand do something like that to Carrie's hair?

I've been watching nothing but the edited reruns on E for years and recently when I've gone looking for a particular episode number or something I turned up an unedited clip and... wow! I'd forgotten how graphic some of the language was! <<<< feigns clutching pearls

Right? We 're just past an episode with 3 peeing scenes and they give us synchronized barfing? This is the type of humor writers with little to no ability resort to. We think we're going to see something revolutionary, 50something women and the challenges unique to their current stage of life... shown in a mostly lighthearted way. Instead we get stories MPK , the writers and producers take right from their own lives, heavy handed attempts at highlighting diversity, wokeness and their other pet causes and bodily function humor.

This point can't be made enough and I've stated similar, but kudos to you IFIONLYKNEW. Everyone keeps decrying having the 3 remaining ladies of SATC do things that are totally out of character, as well as the focus being on characters and issues on the periphery BEFORE getting around to telling compelling stories about what Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte's lives are like now. The reason the writers and producers are inserting these stories and issues from their own lives into this SATC afterward is that no development company or network would give them money to get that BS made! They know that the SATC audience is devoted and will keep coming back and giving them more chances.

Excellent point. Doesn't the lady who fumbled trying to operate and speak into the microphone Lisa (LTW) make documentary films?

I've mentioned that Che and Miranda seem like people in 2 different stages of life to me despite the fact there's only 9 years difference in the two actor's ages. Che seems a lot younger than Miranda. You've fleshed out the thought that it's hard to see how the two would relate to each other outside of sex. Miranda being 55 and having been wife, mother and a practicing attorney for most of her life. How is she going to relate to this [comes off as] 30something stoner who can't remember what was said and what happened from one day to the next? It seems Miranda particularly at this stage of life, would probably spark with a much more sophisticated type of person. When they show Miranda watching Che onstage appearing totally enthralled like Che is absolutely killing it. I can't! I only remember that expression briefly crossing Miranda's face when she made it to little Brady's school performance after missing it so many times [due to work]. Some weed smokers talk about it all the time and make it the main focus of their lives (I know I can remember people like that from school), and some don't talk about it much ...but Che talks about it a lot. Che's not bringing up a lot of other interesting topics on that sillyass podcast or off. Oh, I recall talk of intestinal problems and fondness for Mexican food over lunch and that came directly from writer Samantha Irby's real life, again. Quelle suprise. I have said Che has some charisma that comes across... but trying to get the audience onboard with that being enough to have Miranda never give Steve's feelings a thought and completely forget that she's betraying him in the exact same way she felt so devastated over... is beyond ridiculous.

Yes. To be fair Carrie was getting quite shrill with Miranda asking what are you doing? You're married! after the post-op accident in bed scene. I couldn't help but think about when she went as low as to occupy Big's marital bed with him while his wife was away.

OK... this is nothing against this lady's perfectly pleasant girl next door face, but that HAIR! Is this giving anyone else Bugs Bunny - My stars, if an iNNNteresting monster can't have an iNNNteresting hairdo teas?

Love it! 🤗 You have no idea how much I freaking loathe spandex!

You're welcome! I'm out now, though. Can't do 1-4. I think I could read transcripts but MPK speaking just exudes pretentiousness.
-
Now I wonder if I listened to AJLT the writer's room podcasts (they're up on You Tube), editions 1-4 and 7 if I'd hear where the rest of the show ideas came from? I don't think I could take more of MPK though. That was a lot of source material cited in 2 partial podcasts that I listened to. So I did listen to the ep 7 one and MPK seems to be stating 3 months is what went by, the time Carrie took to write her book. He also mentioned not making a big deal of Seema being the 4th at the table as they'd already done that with Anthony and it had been 3 months. MPK -"We came up with this idea where we would go from fall through winter in one very slick very technicolor montage where Carrie is writing through 3 months." Before they launch into 10-15 minutes of DISGUSTING vomit talk., they talk about getting Carrie to go out on a date using pressure from the publisher as the impetus. They touch on the subject of whether to show Carrie getting her photo taken making a profile? before ultimately deciding Seema will do it and "stage her", to make so so easy for Carrie. MPK- "The interesting thing about that scene, in the editing room there were lots more jokes in it. When I was in the editing room I was like that feels like the old show, that feels like the old show. That feels like the old show. They're past that. There were jokes about we didn't date on apps, we used to get man's names off the cave walls." IDK what show they're talking about, because these women did not deal with online dating and making profiles and they were in long term relationships when that became the way lots of people meet. Considering some of the other BS they've taken time up with, it doesn't seem like touching on these women being unfamiliar with dating this way would be a waste of time. Some might even consider it a glaring omission! Then writer Elisa Zuritsky states professor Nya and her husband talking about trying to get pregnant and then realizing they're not is another scene based on an experience of hers. She sent her husband a text meant for his eyes only saying she's wasn't pregnant and please don't tell the kids. Then she accidentally pressed a button that prompted it to be read aloud by the robotic voice of the Apple play device, so the kids in the car did hear it. 🙄 Oh, and guess what? Elisa Zuritsky plays tennis and becomes aggressive and competitive when she plays, diverging from her normal people pleasing ways. She has had fights with her husband over tennis but recalls one particularly bad one where they fought in the street from the tennis court all the way home. 🙄 That's it! I can't put up with this egomaniac long enough to listen to 1-4. I think we now know where they get their story ideas, and the material they come up with to string them together has been laden with way too much focus on bodily functions... which has long been a refuge of untalented writers.

Thanks, I was wondering if that ever happens? So I guess it's still a possibility. I personally thought it was dopey to have twice burned Aiden seemingly mooning over Carrie "boy are you not like not like any other woman" in awful SATC movie #2, so I hope they don't go there.
-
Yes, the thing I read stated 20 years, I think? I had no idea
-
A few pages back some posters were speculating about the possible return of Aiden, so I went and checked his IMBD. Didn't see any AJLT credits, but I did see something surprising. Does everyone other than me already know who he (actor John Corbett) is married to? scroll down ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` Bo Derek!

Well you know why they'd pick this vehicle, it was already wildly successful and a reboot certain to be greenlighted. Now they can just fold in their pet issues and personal stories. A heck of a lot easier than being creative and writing new stories! ... and they'd have to do it for a demographic that's more challenging to write for. There's already a ton of TV shows and movies featuring 30somethings.

I listened to a couple of those AJLT writer's room podcasts ep 5 and 6 particularly where MPK lead the discussions with a few of the female writers and producers. First off, it's so obvious this guy thinks every word he utters is pure genius. He states Samantha Irby "crafted" and wrote the Tragically Hip episode. Besides Carrie's hip surgery and Miranda's sexual awakening it's the one where Rose discloses identifying as gender non binary and wishing to be called Rock. MPK mentioned "Kelly in the writing room had this weird congenital hip defect" Samantha Irby states she has a wife who's youngest announced she was a lesbian on a Tik Tok and that's how the family found out. Julie Rottenberg, one of the producers states "I wanted to show the real struggle and journey that parents can go through as the parent of a kid who decided they were gender non binary at a certain age". MPK added they always check in with the G.L.A.A.D. the LGBT+ media advisory board on these issues. In the ep 6 podcast Rachna Fruchbom who herself is Indian, spoke of wanting to depict an Indian family living in Queens and to highlight the Diwali celebration. So they did have a bunch of their own stories they wanted to tell. That, and they were going to address every lack of diversity criticism ever lobbed at the old series, right out of the gate. Kind of sounds like they didn't have time to do much real writing.

Richard was appealing, but he was a prick. You forgot perfect in every way Jerry Jarod a.k.a. Smith! He was a Saint!

I just got in in time for the runway. Will have to watch the whole episode. So Arianna is the model's name. The one who Zayden and Prajje went home designing for. I was just wondering at the end of the last episode... have Kristina or Shantal ever gotten a plus size model.? and here we are. I guess she looked better than Zayden or Prajje had her looking, but really where is anyone wearing that? (and I like Kristina). Shantal has a sharp eye and can really make some clothes. I don't think we've seen anything from her where she didn't know where to stop. They made the right choice IMO, though. Chasity's was a runway moment like they stated, and the garment and the hair complemented each other. I don't mean to be harsh or anything, but Coral could have gone too. I'll bet she goes next. It's enough already with the macrame.

Oh that's right. thanks. I'd forgotten the details of the party
-
Then we would have seen some "diva" behavior! I have some advice for those of you who were unfamiliar with the Real Housewives Of shows and were quite horrified by what you saw, stay far far away from Basketball Wives and Mob Wives.

So ridiculous! Like Samantha needed Carrie's money. I can't believe she said to Miranda "I thought I was more than an ATM to her". Samantha had Richard a hotel magnate as a client and Jenny who's parents threw her a million dollar sweet 16 party. Her career continued on an upward trajectory from there. I'm sure we all remember how her lifestyle was depicted when she went to Hollywood with Smith (as shown in awful movie#1). She never had money problems or had to go to Carrie to [possibly] borrow money for a down payment on an apartment. The first time Carrie had a book coming out Samantha offered her help with styling for the cover Carrie said "you know I can't afford you" So Samantha said that's true, and that it would cost her two cocktails. Some of these new writers might not be as intimately familiar with all these details as we are, but as SJP, CN and KD are all listed as Executive Producers, how are they letting things like this get by?
-
Oh dam, I didn't mean to break the rules. I just finished reading this thread and saw a Samantha related comment and responded. Mod(s) my apologies. Feel free to move or omit if you see fit.
