  1. Yes, it's possible no one witnessed those arguments but it's also possible someone did because of the noise level. I was looking away from the screen while that last scene played where Dan barged in and flung her all around and the sounds without the visuals were very disturbing. My mum who doesn't go out much walked in yesterday afternoon with one of those 4 footed canes and I immediately went down stairs and through two rooms to see what was making the clump clump clump noise I was hearing upstairs. That older woman with the bunny who took something in for Alex one day while she was at work struck me as someone who would probably be concerned enough about all those unusual loud noises to call the police rather than go see about it herself. ...and we don't even really know who else lives in there. Just hypothesizing about how Dan could've gotten sentenced to 15 years to life for second degree murder? Hopefully they'll reign in all the superfluous nonsense that's s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g i-t o-u-t and show us exactly how it happened.
  2. I'm not saying you Elizzikra (or anyone else) are wrong to think Dan is a good man, but for the sake of conversation... We've been given no indication that Dan voluntarily took the rap for Alex's killing. His whole I'm going to prove I didn't do it declaration would be mighty strange if he had. There could've been witnesses that saw and or heard him the day of the open house the first time he went to Alex's apartment pushing his way in raging at her this is going to stop! Then there was the second time when he flung her all around that apartment and stopped just short of choking her to death. It would be pretty improbable if both those incidents happened without Alex's neighbors being any the wiser. His car was surely seen at her apartment on more than one occasion. His fingerprints would've been at the scene, not only on the doorknobs but places someone who spent time there would leave them. We know that Beth and Mike knew about the affair so it's possible other people not on his defense team, not friendly toward him did as well. Frank, for one. There were the photos Alex took of them together at the beach. Also she was talking on the phone to someone about her new relationship. If Alex really turned up dead (and I'm assuming she did), that could be pretty damning. My imaginary law degree from watching umpteen seasons of Law and Order tells me he could've been convicted on motive, opportunity and circumstantial evidence. Latter day Mike and his new tenant Dan were discussing who else could have killed Alex over dinner. After Mike laid down two photos Dan asked what's all this? The rest of the prints came back, Mike answered and started listing people: Dr Paul's buddies [the neighbor], Gabriel [the bailiff], Benny's guy [court clerk?] and then he ended by naming the two in the photos and stated rather ironically "as far as viable alternative suspects go I think we're kind of cooking with gas here, hmm? and we've both had a case or 10 where more was made with a lot fucking less". I'm not stating someone who commits battery should go to jail for 2nd degree murder. Just making an observation.
  3. This is a mess that's not benefiting from the extra time to flesh who these characters were and why they were set on such a collision course with each other, and what signs he or she might have missed. Should Dan have recognized Alex's mental illness? Did Alex read the situation all wrong? Did Dan give her reason to? It's just that Alex is criminally insane like in the movie? Dragging it out while they stuff every extraneous little tidbit they can think of into what should've been a 90 minute movie is just... a drag. As Cementhead smartly and succinctly put it on the previous thread: by telling the story starting where they did and with the two different timelines they took all of the suspense out of it that the original possessed. Most of these remakes and reboots are totally unnecessary and leave the public wondering who the heck was asking for this? ...branding them shameless money grabs. However there actually was room for improvement with the original Fatal Attraction. As Roger Ebert's review* stated (and I wholeheartedly agreed) It's a really good movie in the beginning and the middle until the last act when it becomes a ridiculous slasher film. I'll watch the original movie pretty much any time it's on, but I usually check out soon after Dan tells Beth of his tryst with Alex. * https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/fatal-attraction-1987 I've always thought the casting here is all wrong. I can't completely shake off my sympathetic feelings toward Joshua Jackson after 4 years of watching him as the nice guy being done horribly wrong by his wife on The Affair. He still seems too much like that guy in this. He could be playing the character completely differently, but either he doesn't have the range or it wasn't coaxed out of him. . Maybe it's just me, but I actually think this version of Dan as written would kill Alex in a minute if he and his fixer Mike could think of a way to hide the evil deed. He only confessed to the affair because he felt he had to to keep himself and his household safe and when Marlene sent him home early because of the investigation into the complaint letter about him, he lied to Beth about the reason he was home. Furthermore, it looked to me like he'd have no problem continuing beating Alex to death if he didn't fear being arrested and imprisoned. I just don't see strength of character or morality motivating any of his choices.
  4. or.. please don't reveal spoiler tag if you don't want to know another movie has a similar plot
  5. Should have known you fans were already on it! Yay! 💃 More confirmation here: https://www.theashleysrealityroundup.com/2023/05/10/renewed-or-cancelled-tlc-bravo-other-networks-reveal-the-fates-of-your-favorite-reality-tv-shows/ "Project Runway (Bravo): Renewed; Season 20 premieres June 15"
  6. I too thought Beth's mum was dead because of the same things... Beth's Dad had to take a pill to rest and everyone was home, as opposed to at the hospital awaiting news. If so, that whole conversation between Dan and Beth was very very odd. They seemed so concerned that her mother might have closed the gate without knowing where Quincy was! Or might have been unsure what she did with the gate due to having already cracked the seal on the bottle of wine. Dan actually countered with something like: that wouldn't have made her cruel, to not care about Quincy. Who on earth would be speaking about their mother's drinking problem and or lack of conscientiousness while dog sitting right after she drowned in the family pool? They'd talked about how no one could be bothered holding the button on the automated pool cover down for an entire minute when they had guests at the house. Really? so they just leave it open with a child under 10 and a pretty frail looking grandmother who's going to be walking a big dog that's not hers on a leash? They've already made much of Quincy being clumsy and goofy and having a mind of his own. Even knowing Quincy was actually at the neighbors' and that they brought him back to the Gallaghers, the whole scenario still seems ridiculously unsafe.
  7. I have such a distaste for stories told in flashback to start off with, and now with these two different time periods it can be hard to follow. Is it Beth's business partner Arthur who is talking on the phone to his wife Julia's nurse? Is it she who's undergoing chemotherapy? I wonder why we're hearing quite so much about his wife's care? The Gallaghers had a whole conversation with guests over about how no one has one minute to push the automated pool cover button. ...and then they leave the pool uncovered with a child under 10, and a frail possibly unsteady grandmother who's going to be walking a good size dog that's not hers on a leash... meaning he might mind or he might not. They've made an issue of the dog Quincy being clumsy and goofy and having a mind of his own. (He tore their house up when left alone on an earlier ep.) The house the Gallaghers moved to looks pretty spectacular, and if that's supposed to be southern California it probably cost millions. They sold their own house instead of using a realtor... why? to save the sales' commission?
  8. I finally went to IMBD to look up this Pacey character and the show where Joshua Jackson played him, Dawson's Creek. 4 seasons over on The Affair board and lots of people expressed the same: "Joshua Jackson will always be Pacey to me." He looks so young in the clip I watched! Before The Affair I'd only ever seen him in a pretty bad movie, Shutter. I really enjoyed his work on the Showtime series The Affair.
  9. I agree on all points. Didn't watch the American Gigolo reboot, I can't even imagine... Joshua Jackson's portrayal of Dan lacks the smarmy entitled quality original Dan exhibited right up until the threat of being exposed and losing everything caused him to regret acting on impulse / opportunity. if they had just gone their separate ways, original Dan would had [kept] his "quiet life". I don't care for Lizzie Caplan in the role of Alex either. Tanned blond Alex with her chunky gold jewelry and affinity for stark white clothing and surroundings could come across as self assured, worldly and probably sexy. This Alex only seems to occasionally be able to camouflage being a bundle of nerves and anxieties simmering below the surface. Love Play Misty For Me!
  10. I wasn't going to watch this and then I found out who the two principals are and I've enjoyed their work, so I'm giving it a go. Sometimes I wonder if Hollywood realizes they could create new material? Is it super easy to get funding or get a project green lighted if it draws from a previously successful film or something? One wonders. I'm going to have to rewatch the 3 episodes I did watch because I struggled to remain awake. Not a good start.
  11. What if Joel just wanted to give Ellie some peace for right now, and he plans to tell her the truth at a later time? Fresh off being imprisoned, nearly getting gang raped and cut up into little pieces and narrowly escaping being locked in a burning building maybe he just wants to take her to Tommy and Maria's and let her recover? I'd even say Joel telling her the truth is going to become necessary at some point, as she is super vulnerable if she thinks the Fireflies won't keep coming after her and that isolating a cure has already been tried unsuccessfully on others. Those nurses know what a rarity Ellie is and are still around to tell the tale. I could very well see Joel telling Ellie the real deal early in season 2. I've watched because the two principal actors are so good. Loved ep 3, the commune and most of all watching the Joel + Ellie relationship grow, but I'm not so enamored of the writing here. Too much having to suspend disbelief over and over again. They knocked Joel unconscious to spirit Ellie away, but didn't see fit to restrain him? His killing spree happened in the exact time it took to get to Ellie before the surgeon started cutting into her brain? Too much like last time. Last ep hinged on Joel being cured and waking up and getting to Ellie at the exact moment she was running from danger? Ellie having overpowered two grown men with guns and cleavers from a position of being pinned down on a table? It's beyond hand waiving or creative license. Then as many have mentioned, there's the unbelievably ridiculous plan to make the very first procedure performed on the one person thought to be immune to Cordesyps total brain removal? It's like a bad joke! Really bad. Smarter more imaginative people right here on this board expressed worry Ellie might be held captive for as long as it took to do various tests (analysis of blood, spinal fluid and brain cell samples. tests on her immune system etc) to hopefully make an anti venom type cure and / or vaccine, but no one thought they'd kill off the source as step one.
  12. When Joel said to Ellie it's about a 5 hour hike from here and they got to the top of that mountain and their destination was in sight... was it Tommy and Maria's commune? I hope so, because I just want Ellie to be protected and relax and play with Shimmer[the pony].
  13. Thank you.
  14. I've been curious about Ellie's backstory, since we met her. However having watched eps 1-6 right before the new one (as I missed large parts of 1+2), I was anxious to find out what happens to her when she's forced to go it alone. That's why I could have done with a lesser portion of the episode spent on flashbacks and more of it moving the story along. Even if I hadn't, just waiting out the week I'd still want to see what happens to her next. Does anyone know how many episodes remain? I saw one mention of 9 in the season and another of 10.
  15. This was some bullshit! Like 2 minutes of the continuation of the story and the rest of the hour was Ellie's flashbacks? Yeah, that's what we tuned in for.
  16. I'm trying to read the whole thread so I don't bring up things thoroughly discussed, but I'm only on page 10. Life has interfered with my reading. There were a couple or reminiscences of Howard Johnson's. When I was a child we had one quite near our house. Sometimes when my mum was driving me to school we'd stop for breakfast. I too remember their chicken croquettes! I even remember them being sold in the frozen section of the super market and maybe one or two other selections. Clam strips come to mind, in those bright orange boxes. I remember the fish fry dinners at the restaurant, they might have been on certain days of the week? That was the first place I tried mint chocolate chip ice cream, too. I haven't run across it yet but did anyone mention those chocolate lolly pops at the checkout that had a super thin layer of white on top with brown scrimshaw type designs? Seeing petitions to bring back discontinued food items I looked up Weaver Chicken Croquettes, which I used to buy occasionally. They were really decent. You baked them in the oven and put the pouch of gravy in a pot of boiling water to heat. I was shocked to see only 10 people had signed! Maybe people didn't like the fact you still had to make your own sides, and they thought it wasn't that much less effort than cooking a whole meal? I always made mashed potato and veg with them. Those have been gone for a few years. https://www.change.org/p/don-d-king-bring-back-weaver-chicken-croquettes?source_location=search This favorite product just disappeared from the frozen section of supermarkets last year? Friendly's Wattamelon Roll. Is anyone else a fan? It's an ice cream roll and when you cut a slice it's a perfect half circle with white lemon sherbet comprising the outer edge barely dusted w/ green sugar to represent the rind. The middle contains vivid pink watermelon sherbet with semisweet chocolate chunk seeds throughout. It wasn't even a summer item last year :( https://www.change.org/p/bring-back-the-friendly-s-wattamelon-roll
  17. TNT? Edited versions? Really? I was looking forward to watching when I heard True Blood would be on starting with ep 1 on Saturday night. This is absolutely ridiculous. It would have to be cut to shreds for network TV.
  18. I grew up having Nabisco Royal Lunch Milk crackers! We bought them until we couldn't find them in the stores anymore. When I was 10 or 11 I was allowed to drink tea on Saturday mornings and really milky coffee on Sunday mornings and we quickly dipped those crackers in both. I'm in New England and Stop & Shop here sells Heritage Classic Lunch Milk Crackers. Not as good and a bit thinner; $5 a box, too. Amazon sells some look a like product, but it doesn't bear the Nabisco logo. 4 boxes for $25 . I remember Whip N Chill too!
  19. My husband rediscovered Carnation Instant Breakfast a few years ago. They sell it at Walmart near us. It's a change from oatmeal, which he mostly has in the fall and winter. He just can't face eggs first ting in the morning I know exactly what you mean. i've managed to live a while and never tried eggnog. It just doesn't appeal to me.
  20. I remember the Danish Go Rounds TV commercial and the look and taste of them. We had the blueberry and brown sugar cinnamon ones...as I recall. I'd definitely buy those again!
  21. IDK what your walking shoes would look like after that? ...but my husband tells me he used to go backpacking (sounds dreadful) and he would have never set out on a hike in boots he hadn't gotten wet and walked dry. He was interested in avoiding blisters, rather than looking smart. lol This is a fun thread . I'm glad to know there are still plenty of people around who remember all the way back to the 70's. My mail had me feeling really old yesterday as I got something that stated I maybe eligible to have my "final expenses" paid. 😬 If I start talking about the fragrances I've loved and lost, I may never shut up!
  22. My husband was always a strong advocate of the get them wet and walk them dry method for any garments made of tough fabric and especially for hiking boots! I was too scared as even as a young girl it was drummed into my head it was unhealthy to .remain in wet garments, like bathing suits.
  23. Chloroform? Wow! I never heard of that brand, but there used to be a sore throat lozenge type product called Spec T. Not quite as long ago as the 70's maybe 80's or even early 90's. If you were so unfortunate as to have one of those painful cases of strep throat where even the air gives you searing pain, those red lozenges soothed it. I searched for and found some other benzocaine containing lozenges made in Mexico but I often wondered why such an effective product stopped being sold? IDK if the super strong ones like Halls or Chloroseptic work as well because they burn my mouth. Spec T wasn't menthol-y or super strong tasting.
  24. My discontinued Mac lipstick shade was a creme formula called Bardot. I'm STILL salty! My mum had those fizzy foil wrapped bath cubes too. Does anyone remember a round product you dropped in the bath that really fizzed, much larger than those cubes but not as large as the "bath bombs" of today? The only possible brand association I could shake out of my head was Cutex... but that can't be it because I can't find any info on it. It was definetely in the 70's, though.
  25. When I read this Farrah Fawcett came to mind and I wondered if I'd seen her in one of those TV ads. Not her, Heather Locklear! Farrah had her OWN Faberge hair care line...as well she should!
