  1. There are a lot of Amish who have puppy mills as well. I found that out after I ended up with a dog given to me that originally came from a very exclusive puppy store. When I looked at her papers, she had come from Missouri. I know they have treated large animals (horses and cows) from Amish folks on Dr. Pol's show.
  2. I have lived in the South and still have family there. Although I'm not a mayonnaise person, people SWEAR by Duke's. https://www.southernliving.com/food/dukes-mayo-southern-food And I loved the attention to detail with the lady trying to make the deviled eggs with the colors of FSU (Florida State University - garnet and gold, rather than yellow and red). These are serious Southern housewife-ly types lol. This episode had me yelling at my TV screen like I was at an old school horror movie. I was hoping Slippin' Jimmy wasn't going to slip so far as to choke out Marion. And what a tough cookie to press that button!
  3. Florida has the Sunshine Law which means there are open records (for many things, not all). Maybe she moved to Florida and sent him divorce papers from there. I was disturbed more by Jesse's voice than his looks. He of course looked older, but his voice sounded like a formal "man" rather than a punk. The edginess was gone. I quite enjoyed the phone call with Francesca. I loved listening to the gossip of the fallout after Saul left.
  4. I used to take my (late) dogs to a very large animal hospital in my suburban area. It was pretty much like a people hospital - all kinds of animal specialists, a fully staffed hospital and emergency room, whatever equipment was needed, pharmacy etc. It was EXPENSIVE. There were times I had to ration certain care for my pets because of the cost (i.e. I had to wait to treat one of my dogs for a benign facial mass until I saved up the money) I imagine if a person didn't have money for dentures, they didn't have money for expensive pet care. Is it just me, or am I the only one that still enjoys the commercial with Dr. Pol with the lightning bolt across his face? :D
  5. Count me in the group of enraged musicians/ former band nerds at the ridiculous contrabassoon story. My high school also had a very good music department and I was a very good musician (piano and voice and I have perfect pitch) before I decided to pick up the French horn as a senior. It is VERY hard (I also picked up flute, piccolo, and percussion as well). I had friends who played the bassoon and it's a horrible sounding instrument unless it's played well. One kid who also played multiple instruments (clarinet, oboe, piano and even the bagpipes) was playing bassoon and it was a challenge for him to make it sound good. I was able to borrow a French horn from the school but I would also be shocked if any school had a contrabassoon these days (my local music store rents instruments but nothing quite that exotic). Mark could get a music scholarship but he would be required to play in the college orchestra. My niece played clarinet and got a music scholarship to college. She majored in music business administration. And sorry but no marching bassoons in college marching bands, lol. As a French horn player, I played the baritone in the marching band in HS. My bassoon friends all played bagpipes and clarinets. What is wrong with Ben? Darlene makes herself more and more unlikeable every week. Yet, an eligible bachelor in Lanford "with his own teeth" keeps pursuing this horrible bad-tempered woman who treats him like dirt. I contrast her with Rosanne who could be very sarcastic and snappy with her husband, but you still felt they loved each other under it all. Darlene doesn't seem to love anybody but herself. I'm wishing Ben leaves her at the altar.
  6. I had a friend that worked as an activities director at an assisted living facility. She told me that some dementia patients were like little children and some were literally rewinding in time, going backwards into the teenage/tween years and that they would engage in yelling, screaming and physical attacks. Some went back into toddlerdom complete with temper tantrums. And I agree that so far Rebecca looked well groomed, even with perfectly flat-ironed hair. I work with a doctor who came to the US as a child from Cuba. His English accent is perfect even when he launches into Spanish and back to English again. My mother came to the US from Cuba in her very early 20s and spoke only English and her accent was so strong that most people couldn't understand her. I'm guessing Kevin will always look younger since he is an actor and had access to Botox/cosmetic procedures/etc. Kate's face will be fuller because, well, she's a fuller woman. I really loved that Miguel's family "took care of their own" with the aunt with the stroke. That was what he saw growing up (and is more common in a lot of immigrant families). When "And So It Goes" came on, I struggled to hold back my own ugly cry - a beautiful episode.
  7. Derek Hough is in a band with Mark Ballas (also from Dancing with the Stars) called the Ballas Hough Band. So he does sing as well. My cousin has seen them perform at the Grove in L.A. I was on a flight when this episode was on and was able to get ABC live just in time to see Katie fly off her chair and the kerfuffling of Lionel and Luke happening. It was pretty amusing
  8. I actually knew somebody who had a farm property that somehow got run over by his own tractor (I'm guessing he got off and there was some kind of malfunction). Took his leg clean off and he bled to death right in the field. We had discussion a while back about Jackson and his leg surgery. They shut down the growth plate on one of the bones of each leg so that the other bone continues to grow and straightens the leg out very gradually. Bones don't grow super quickly so it would be something tracked by x-ray over time. Plus it's more than cosmetic. It will hopefully prevent Jackson from getting arthritis in his hips and back as he gets older (which is much harder to address).
  9. A close friend of mine who is in a wheelchair had an Irish Wolfhound as his service dog. It was the biggest dog I've ever seen. He had her until she passed a few years ago. I just started watching Dr. Pol and I'm hooked. The only parts I can't watch is when a dog or cat has to be put down. Nope, nope, nope. The rest is fascinating.
  10. I saw it differently. Mary is the daughter of a military member and kids that grow up in military families aren't taught to panic - they are taught to take action (grew up with an Army dad and was a military spouse for 25 years). And I'm guessing while the Conner household had more than one shower, Mary might have drained the water heater so there was no hot water. Beverly Rose is supposed to be three? She's really grown up and advanced! Why, if I didn't know about the magic of Accelerated TV Series Child Replacement Syndrome, I would have thought she was probably a small six year old! Harris didn't have the right to sell Dan's gun. But he did need to find a safer place to keep it. My grown kids have magnetic gun holders that are on top of high bookcases in the bedroom. Or have him get a better safe (with a better combination) and install it somewhere safer. Plus a safety lock on the gun. I did like the touch of donating the money to the people collecting for the family. Darian, I live 20 min from Parkland. I happened to be out of town when it happened, but I got a call from my daughter who works in the emergency room who told me to turn on the news. And I live close to a major highway so I've heard helicopters circling overhead all the time. (heard them once in church when an active shooter showed up at a local restaurant two blocks away and shot the manager - they airlifted the manager to a large trauma center). It was heartbreaking that the family knew the boy involved in the shooting and that none of the Conners could understand why he did it.
  11. USA hospital in Mobile, Alabama! I used to work there many MANY years ago. I believe it's now a teaching hospital for University of South Alabama. https://www.usahealthsystem.com/locations/university-hospital. (LOL I was doing something and heard splinter girl's accent and had to roll it back cos I knew right where she was from by her accent lol). That said, I still have a lot of close friends in Mobile and not one of them goes to USA. I'm in the medical field and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy this show. I have a daughter who is an ER nurse and these cases are tame compared to some of the things she's seen. I had a co-worker with the same problem and he was miserable. He was always digging at his ears cos they itched.
  12. Can I just say how much I enjoyed watching Nathan Chen's gala skate, especially his facial expressions? And the back flip? He was just having a ball. And I was so happy hearing different music with the skaters instead of all that funeral music. And Maniac was a kick.
  13. Their relationship seems so intermeshed that I would imagine Jazz would ask her mother to come in with her, or else like CousinAmy, Jeanette would insist on knowing what was said. Don't forget, Jeanette referred to herself as Jazz's "momager" on one of the last shows ( I think it was the one in Boston where the parents were eating together). If Jeanette isn't in on whatever's going on with Jazz and her college and her dilatations and her weight loss and her tie-dye and her being the poster girl for trans issues, then what's she going to do with her own life?
  14. As the show was progressing, I was also googling the price of a contrabassoon lol. I played the French horn in high school and borrowed one from the school because they cost about $3000 back in the 70s (yes, I'm old). Plus learning to play the regular bassoon is incredibly difficult. I had friends who played oboe and bassoon in all-state orchestras. (Zoey1996, I admire you and your double reed adventures- my niece played clarinet in college and tried the oboe and wasn't able to make it sound decent). As pointed out, Jackie didn't get shot - she was pursuing a naked guy and fell down the stairs and herniated some discs in her back. It's ironic that she's carrying heavy items around all the time with a messed up back. I currently have a grandchild in a magnet school (yes, I'm OLD). Parents apply for their child the year before and the children are picked in a lottery system (including race, so there is a racially diverse school, at least here in Florida). No economic information was needed. Same with charter schools here. I agree that Mark needs to go the Sheldon Cooper way if he's that smart and start earning credits in HS for his budding college career (one of my children did this - called dual enrollment). And why can't Mark get into a private school? They do offer grants and tuition reductions for students (again, one of my grandkids receives reduced tuition due to financial hardship). It's like the people writing the episodes have no idea how the rest of the world works. Google is your friend. So why do I continue to watch? Cos I watched the OG Roseanne show back in the day and still watch the reruns. As weird as it sounds, I'm invested in these characters and it really annoys me that the new writers don't respect the viewers to keep continuity in the show.
  15. Oh when I said I enjoyed it, I enjoyed watching them make fools of themselves. My kids competed up to about age 14 and there were times they did parts of their teammates' routines (like a few movements of their floor routines) but these guys were definitely a bunch of weirdos.
  16. I didn't watch this part of the episode (I can't hardly stomach long periods of the show), but I live in South Florida and I can assure you that people are still using very stringent precautions. Could it have been some kind of re-enactment? So much of this show is staged. I have a daughter who went to a pulmonologist when she was the same age, but she had a history of asthma and had to be on chronic medication, including steroids. I've never heard that Jazz has any chronic lung conditions, so I wondered the same thing.
  17. I watch ER during my lunch break (on POP) and I got to sit and rewatch the episode with Carol at the convenience store when the robbers (young Ewan McGregor!) shot the old man. I watched it live back in the day and even today, I was surprised how intense and well written this episode was.
  18. I am happy for Suni, but I’m an Alabama at heart. Alabama’s finish on the beam was FLAWLESS. Roll tide! Roll Tide forever, but I was so happy for Suni getting all that positive attention. And Emmawoodhouse, the announcer said 90,000. I though that was high but I've been to several of those collegiate gymnastics meets and people get WILD and yes, it did sound like 90K. I especially enjoyed watching the Auburn folks with the letters on their shirts right down near the floor and when they were imitating the Alabama floor routines.
  19. I watched part of the Alabama vs Auburn gymnastics meet tonight (at Auburn). There were 90,000 fans there and people were losing their minds when Suni Lee was competing. (FWTW women's college gymnastics meets have very devoted fans and I've been to a few competitions but this was rock star crazy). Plus Suni looked like she was having an absolute ball while she was competing - all smiles and enthusiasm.
  20. So Jazz is supposed to be a role model? But she's a model of not being able to do things for herself? Not being able to handle her hygiene issues (dilatation/ shaving legs), follow-up for her medical care? (weight issues/ etc) or daily routine (laundry, getting up and attending classes, eating nutritious meals/ shopping)? There are young adults that are physically handicapped (wheelchair bound, etc) that manage to go to college and handle their own affairs. And don't colleges have some kind of student affairs office that can help Jazz with any challenges? Plus if she's living on campus, isn't there a resident advisor that can guide her in finding assistance? Back when my daughter was in college, she helped out some other students with challenges (she learned to put a weave in a girl's hair who had broken her arm, took a couple of students to the ER with various serious medical issues, etc). My point is. . . many students have issues and challenges. Part of becoming a functioning adult is learning to handle what life throws at you. Please Jeanette. . . . let it go. . . let Jazz grow up.
  21. Was it just me or did the husband on this episode have the same hairstyle as Howard Wolowicz from the Big Bang Theory? I could not get past his hair!
  22. Large lady in my 60s here and I've always been able to shave my legs as well. I actually sit down to do it (thanks spinal stenosis). But lack of grooming can be a sign of depression. And if Jazz can't shave her legs without her mother's help, what makes them think she can attend such a high level college? I'm hoping this is fake and not indicative of her real life struggles. Why would Jazz need a pulmonologist? A GI doctor? I can understand a GP to coordinate her care, a psychiatrist and therapist and perhaps endocrinologist (or whatever doctor needs to stabilize her hormones) and perhaps a GYN for the lady parts care.
  23. I always think about when Dr. Phil said "what are you getting out of that"? Jeanette is obviously getting validation and control of her daughter (was it just me, or did I hear her use the word "momager" aka mom manager, during this episode? So is she getting a percentage of what income Jazz is generating with the show? And Jazz of course still gets to be the center of the universe in her family. I'm guessing Jazz doesn't really know how to fail - I'm not saying she didn't have challenges when she was growing up, but her mom took care of them. It's harmful to to not let young adults learn to handle their own lives (unless they are on drugs or seriously going to harm themselves). Jazz will never learn to live a full life until her mom lets go. How hard can it be to wash clothes? To shop for clothing that fits? To grocery shop? To wake up on time for classes? If she's a motivated student worthy of Harvard, she should be able to handle those simple tasks. Otherwise, she will join multiple students that have crashed and burned at college and returned home to take classes locally. And her dilation business should be just that - her own business. Natural consequences. She's twenty. If she wants her surgery to continue to be successful, she needs to own her recovery.
  24. Apparently they are setting us up for some kind of redemption story with Darlene so that Hot Ben will take her back. But she's going too far and pretty soon, nobody is going to care as it becomes less believable that anybody would take her back after her shenanigans.
  25. I immediately recognized him as Joe, but couldn't pull up his last night from my brain. I LOVED his character. I wish he would wander in and out of the Connersphere. The scenes with him and Dan were enjoyable. WTH is wrong with Darlene? She was an absolute nut case at the movies. And then showing up to Ben's place. Ben really dodged a bullet with that relationship. I must be one of the only ones that liked Harris. Of course she's young and will make mistakes (considering her mother hasn't really been mothering a lot lately. . . or ever). And Darlene declaring that she chooses terrible partners? How would that make a kid feel about her father?
