  1. This is so true. I don't give a darn about their personal story. Talk to me about food. And recipes. And helpful hints. And food glamour shots. And make it real cooking -- not semihomemade.
  2. Let me start off with an unpopular opinion: I loved Danica's hair! I've been single-handedly trying to bring big hair back and now I have a co-conspirator! Big curls rule! And I thought James looked horrid. Previous posters mentioned that he had on eyeliner - whatever it was, it made him look exhausted and aged him. Not a good look. My two favorite routines of the night were Candice's. Now, I realize she isn't the greatest dancer, but I loved the choreography. They were fun. If I were to watch a single dance over again, it would be her quickstep. Now, that's not a reason to vote for her. That's a reason to compliment Mark on great choreography and fun music selection. For actual dance content, I think Meryl was in a class by herself. Both of her routines were beautifully done. There were no backup dancers, fog machines, or cirque de soleil ropes necessary. So, after not voting all season, I pulled out my telephone and voted for Meryl. She really is a very good dancer.
  3. Did I miss the medical update on Bopper? Did the Race help him and his family out at all?
  4. Great episode overall, but like the previous poster -- not enough Ralph Waite. (Although, I was bawling at the funeral. But, I would be.) The episode earlier this season with the German airman was a much better tribute to Ralph.
  5. By 10 PM, I need to get the dog walked and get to bed for my 5:30 AM start to my day. I'm not going to stay up any later to vote. If I remember, I'll vote on Facebook, but it's not a priority for me. Most of the time, my favorites are long gone by the semi-finals. I think I last voted for Laila Ali (and I'm still bitter that she lost (to a Hough, of course)). Now, I pretty much snark at the show and call it Dancing with Derek (produced by Derek (or his Mom)).
  6. So upset right now -- I wanted to adopt Charlie. He's sunshine, rainbows, unicorns, and Happiness!!!!! He's an absolute apple dumpling! How could he not win the Mirror Ball Trophy. Guess I should have voted. (And TPTB did the pro-Meryl factions no favors by putting Amy in the 'danger' circle. The Derek fangirls will be voting overtime now)
  7. The beginning was excellent. The explosion, the missing explosives, the crazy guy who likes aliens, the reporter -- great stuff. I had a tougher time believing the men who were the bombers were able to break into a military warehouse and that they would have targeted American Marines, who they would want to go to their country. I hope Heddy wasn't foreshadowing a departure from the team at the end.
  8. Hope to never ever hear about Beckett's Mom again. This episode was ridiculous. How many places did she head to alone? She tampered with evidence. She broke into her apartment, causing Ryan and Espo to get arrested too. I want The 70s Show episode back....
  9. Loved this episode! DiNozzo in France was able to come up with multiple plans to try and return to the US AND he figured out the Admiral's Daughter's true role. Excited for the Palmer family, too!
  10. I can also see a clambake themed event on a beach (Cape Cod?) and I've heard they are going to Plimouth Plantation -- Thanksgiving anyone? For a Chowder throwdown, they could bring in Jasper White -- he was one of the fore-runners of foodie cuisine in Boston and now manages a casual, but excellent seafood restaurant The Summer Shack: http://www.summershackrestaurant.com/Jasper-White-Biography.asp Ming Tsai owns Blue Ginger in Wellesley -- he's been a guest judge before: http://www.ming.com/about-ming/biography.htm Boston is also home to Barbara Lynch, who was on Top Chef Masters. And Jody Adams, too! I know Julia Childs is gone, but perhaps her kitchen set will be visited. She did film at PBS in Brighton for decades. Maybe recreating one of her dishes? No idea who would be a fit judge there! PBS fundraiser? They could also do a filming during the Scooper Bowl -- more ice cream per capita is consumed in New England. Surely there is an appropriate challenge to be had with ice cream! Dare I suggest a maple syrup challenge as well? (Just don't tie it into the Molasses Flood.) Apples, cranberries, blueberries, and lots of lobstah and clams. While I love having moved out of Boston (cost of living!), I wish I were there to be a restaurant wars guest!
  11. Question about Derek's 40 point score: was the partner earning that the stool? If so, I understand. The stool was excellent! Totally not surprised that Amy got her strongest dance (the jive) for the pair event or that she got paired with someone that could lift her. No way could she have done a female duet like Meryl and Danica. Speaking of which -- Danica has a cracked rib and was doing samba rolls. Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (But let's focus on Amy's bruised rib instead.) Danica was, in my uneducated opinion, the third best dancer this season (behind some combination of Meryl and Charlie). It's a shame she didn't make the final four. My fingers are crossed for a 'shocking' elimination next week, sending Amy home, so Derek can focus more on his star pupil, the rhumba-ing chair.
  12. Not ashamed to admit that I was crying. I want a man just like Harold in my life! (Of course, if he looked like Reese, I'd be ecstatic!) Not surprised that Decima went after Grace -- was waiting for this to happen since we learned that she existed. The writers did an excellent job with the plot.
  13. A month after the episode on sexual assaults in the military, we got a homeless veterans/ runaway teens episode. I know they are both important concerns, but it felt a little bit preachy. On the plus side, Abby now has a dog. I want more Abby, Ducky, and Jimmy in their roles. I really feel they aren't being used properly this season.
  14. Liked this episode -- in fact it may have been the best episode of NCIS:LA this season. Loved the flash mob plan and the blown up trailer in the trailer park. My biggest complaint was the fact it was the skate kids. I was sure it was the male second in command at the company. And the little girl was a very good actress.
  15. Ridiculously happy that Nene is gone. Hopefully next season, Tony will get a nice partner. Did anyone else spend the entire group dance trying to find Nene? She was only in the limelight for Auntie Mame type hand gestures and faces, never for flashy footwork. Ricky Martin was the best guest judge this season -- he was polite, genuine, and unlike last week's RedFool, easy to understand. I was a bit concerned with Bruno being all over him, but Ricky was professional. I also enjoyed his performance immensely (and I don't listen to Latin typically). Hated the footage about Amy's personal relationship. (And is that the guy with whom she went on The Amazing Race? He looks different now.) Maybe her back injury will allow her to withdraw from the competition. Derek's fans will be devastated, but the rest of us can enjoy a less dancer-centric voting skew.
  16. I can get behind that statement is if it means 'our kinds of people' don't like sequined short shorts. Something tells me that's not what they mean though. And insulting Rachel's looks aren't nice either. Sure, her breakdowns make for interesting television, but mocking her for it is incredibly juvenile. I did like them, but 60 years old, cancer survivors with torn Achilles who volunteer to run the race get the same treatment as everyone else.
  17. Favorite parts of this episode: the adorable Bernese Mountain dogs and the classic Mustangs. You say there were people, too? Oh right, Helga! I loved Helga!!! I agree with all the 'mean girl' comments. Right now, I want the pretty much drama-free cowboys to win. The alliance threesome has caused me to dislike all three. And Brenchel was never a favorite anyway. Just when the Afghanimals were starting to win me over, too. My biggest fear -- the country girls get lucky at the end (like the Beekmans) and win it all.
  18. I hated the plot and the reason for the retro revival, but I giggled with glee at the actual recreations. Lannie was great. Espo landing on his butt was phenomenal. Martha writing a ridiculous script was hysterical. Iron Gates walking in on all of it was awesome. I even enjoyed the dance party!
  19. Didn't see a separate Carrie Ann thread, so I'll comment here. What was up with her hair? It looked like she had a rough night the evening before and ended up with half her pony in a bowl of, well, Ty-D-Bowl. (And this is coming from someone who adores Kelly Osbourne's lavender hair.)
  20. <Carefully adjusting my snazzy aluminum foil hat that would look awesome with Candace's dress> As we consistently hear, the contestant with the lowest combined score/votes goes home. The other person 'in jeopardy' may not be the second lowest vote getter. Sometimes, I think putting someone on that stand can increase their votes. So, I personally think Ne Ne was the second lowest scorer last night. The producers keep putting Candace down there and I see a lot of comments on the DWTS Facebook feed that people are voting for Candace. Ne Ne was only in the bottom once. Perhaps hiding her real status will cause her fans to forget to vote for her. Also, Amy finally danced, but she got the steps wrong. I applaud her choice to come on a dancing show and do her best, but I expect her to be scored at the same standard as the others. Since she's with Derek, the golden boy, she'll probably win. If we aren't going to have a real ringer win, I'd much rather it be Danica, who I think is working incredibly hard and mastering a lot of the finite details.
  21. Stupid question from a non-livestock owning suburbanite: Are bowel emptying donkeys really faster than those who have not exercised their excretory system? It would be good to know if I ever get on The Race. My favorite part of the episode were the Monks sporting the cowboy hats! Too cute! (I also laughed at Rachel's donkey riding poses.) If the Country Girls hadn't followed Dave and Connor out of Rome, would they have been better or worse at getting their than the Globetrotters? Navigation skills are important!
  22. Thought this was one of the better episodes this season. I loved that we did get a lot of Abby in the episode -- she's barely been on this season. That said, the sub-plot about the cleanse between Tim and Tony was silly. Why are the writers dumbing these two down so much this season?
  23. I think the Cody aged fans are actually split between a couple of contestants this year. While Cody is the youngest, James's band appeals to the same age bracket. I have to imagine Charlie White, who is close in age, also appeals to that group of fans. Then, of course, that group is desperately in love with Derek as well. Loved the Disney music and the opening number. I was most impressed with Charlie, Meryl, Danica, and James this week. I didn't like Derek's fog machine or the lifts he did in his dance. Next week, we'll either lose Nene or Drew. Drew didn't have a good time slot and his score was pretty low compared to the rest of the field. I walked the dog during Nene's pre-dance schtick but from what I've heard, I would like her gone. I'll go dance with Tony. Finally, I felt the dancing cartoons detracted from the show.
  24. Kudos to Merylinkid for the comparison between Roman and Arabic numbers. That drove me nuts! Loved that Jessica mastered the gladiator event before her husband. Then, she made him go first until he could get it right, because she clearly had it.
