  1. I read in the bathtub all the time. It's fine as long as you don't drop it. I used to have a rack but ended up getting rid of it. What I thought was funny was that elaborately bound book was supposed to be Margaret Atwood. Sorry, even if you bought a hardcover, it would be plain with a dust jacket. No one publishes current novels like that. I know we're all supposed to think Chloe is terrible, but all I could think was "What took you so long." That is the most unlikeable kid they've ever had on this show. And Brady is such an idiot that rather than give her consequences for acting like a complete brat he takes her out for ice cream.
  2. I know it's standard soap trope, but when someone is missing WHY can't the first words out of the person they made contact with be "Where are you?" They wasted most of the phone call/decent reception on background filler. This episode seemed really flat to me - maybe because Harris and Andrew don't play off of each other well. I like the Megan actor. Seems like a real shame that she's written so pathetically.
  3. I suspected they were going to do this. My only quibble is that I was really hoping he was on to them from the start and he and Gabi were plotting their strategy together. I really disliked Stefan appearing to almost fall for it and Gabi needing it explained to her like she was kind of stupid. This kind of cat and mouse, human interaction is why I watch soaps - don't want all the stupid sci-fi stuff.
  4. When John discovered Marlena, all I could do was YAWN. Their "big reunion" meant nothing. Were we supposed to think it was just so romantic that Jawn was so busy gushing over Marlena that he just let Rolf walk away? Yes, leave him on the loose so he can hurt/kill many other people because you need to act like a teenager. What an idiot. This show is turning into a giant Roadrunner cartoon. I'm wondering who's the most like Wile E. Coyote of the bunch. What's next, someone'll go out on a rock point and it will break off sending them into a canyon (hopefully holding an oh-oh sign), maybe an actual train coming from a painted on train tunnel?
  5. John and Steve aren't looking for their wives - they're looking for Megan. Roman doesn't think Kate is alive.
  6. I've forgiven Kate for being so incredibly stupid in the last episode. This time she was definitely in possession of the Salem Brain. And no, I don't think she's dead (or "dead" as they are in Salem.) I really like that they have the older characters solve problems with talking and strategy. Since trying to make a show with a bunch of geriatric action stars is beyond ridiculous I'm really glad they didn't try any stupidity like Kate pushing Bo and trying to run, or her trying to grab the gun. They've definitely decided to use the Beyond Salem Teleportation Machine. In one day, Steve goes from Salem to ISA headquarters in Maryland, to some DiMeara island, has time to explore said island, also has time to have a lengthy chat with Hope and still makes it back to Salem for closing time at the pub.
  7. But, DAMN, Kate was stupid today. First Bo tells her all the doors automatically lock and she doesn't remember she LITERALLY just opened the door behind her with no lock. She then reenters it and it still isn't locked. And to top it off, she simply stands there like an idiot while Bo revives Megan instead of "taking her keys" and listens while he makes sure she's OK. Definitely not using the Salem Brain today. The only smart thing she did was destroy the vial.
  8. I get your point, but even then, I don't really believe them. Didn't the actors who played both Bo and Hope say that they were done with DOOL? I really think a lot of actors leave thinking they have great prospects somewhere else. They then discover that they may have overestimated their popularity/cachet - and back to the soap it is.
  9. It's such a change in character for Eric - he seems to accept Sloan for who she is - including ALL her faults. With Nicole, he was constantly holding her to some standard she could never reach - he never accepted her at all. They're both better characters away from each other.
  10. Yup, plain old soapy fun. Interpersonal drama, someone using a plain old drug, someone lying, someone scheming. Don't need supernatural or back from the dead. And since I'm waving my magic wand, I REALLY want people to get over someone. Jan Spears still obsessed over Shaun after 20 plus years (or is it 30 plus now?) this Meagan person obsessed with Bo from what 40 years ago? I liked the Jan Spears actor but don't really want her to come back because we really don't need version 394 of the exact. same. plot. We ALL know the interloper will never win, so why not have them move on?
  11. This is why I think Nicole is better with EJ than Eric. She gets to be FUN! I like that she's embracing her slightly "bad" side. It's not like she's killing people or doing permanent damage - just a little light revenge. That's probably why the writers keep breaking up her and Eric - they don't know what to do with her whenever she's with Father Sanctimonious. This is far better than when she was being the perpetual babysitter and going around giving Julie a run for her money as the Salem busybody. I really hope that when the inevitably bring Sami back they give her something to do that doesn't involve chasing after EJ .
  12. I wonder if we've gotten so used to the modern writing and pacing of the plots if people would even appreciate some of the older shows. I remember back in the day thinking that a lot of the plots were carried out several beats too long. I particularly remember when Marlena was in the pit, at first it was pretty good, but after a while I was sort of over it. I wonder now, if I would be impatient with the storyline even sooner.
  13. Have you no concept of miracle sperm? Right up there with back from the dead and 58 year old women being pregnant (probably from miracle sperm.)
  14. I love everything about this post and want to like it 1,000 times. I've always thought JH was more of a caricature than a character and her "acting" has only gotten worse as she's gotten older.
  15. When it comes to romantic relationships, most people on this show are, so my answer here is Yes, Rex is stupid.
  16. Now this is classic soap opera stuff. More of this and less supernatural/devil possession/ back from the dead crap, please.
  17. They also stream the NBC shows if you don't have live cable/streaming along with Bravo - while I would have to be strapped in a chair against my will to ever watch even one episode of any Real Housewife show I do like watching Project Runway.
  18. This is a perfect description of them. The whole heaven/hell thing is just so incredibly boring. Does ANYONE really think there is any tension there? Nope, none. How much longer will we have to endure this garbage? It's starting to make Abe's endless chuckle and Paulina's overwrought histrionics look downright entertaining.
  19. Yes, everything about that just seemed so off. I get they want a way to get her character gone but couldn't they have come up with something better than tagging along with her brother? While the writers gave a token explanation about how Sonny can work remotely and he has at least made (sort of) plans, apparently Allie can break her lease, put all her stuff in storage and move her and a toddler in about a day and a half. She must have amazing powers. And I'm guessing that even though she routinely trashes Sami it is Sami who will have to pay for this little adventure. Pretty convenient I'd say.
  20. Here's my really petty thought for today. Couldn't wardrobe at least be bothered to steam the hanger bumps out of Li's sweater? I was so busy watching them move I wasn't even paying attention to what he was saying.
  21. I would have liked Gwen if she had been introduced decently. I didn't like that she was a shoehorned retcon and HATED the constant "You have to forgive me everything I do because I didn't have a daddy" thing. If she had simply had a reason to go after Abigail (and by extension Chad) and wasn't connected to Jack I might have enjoyed her scheming. At least now she's starting to own what she does - that might redeem her character for me. I do think the writers have improved with the introduction of Sloane. She knows exactly who she is and isn't going around trying to convince people she's actually good while whining that she's only bad because she was deprived of having decent parents. On another note, Chad is supposed to be one of the "good" guys but the whole swooping in on a grieving woman who is literally in the middle of a break up seems just "squicky" to me. And maybe we're supposed to think of Stephanie as an empowered woman in charge of her own sexuality, but the whole aggressive thing just hit ALL the wrong notes for me. I'm NOT saying a woman can't be aggressive but the context just seems all wrong.
  22. I don't pay for cable and have decided I'm actually too cheap to pay for live TV (given that I don't really care if I watch a Tuesday show on Tuesday or Wednesday.) Since I pay so little for streaming adding a channel or two isn't really a big deal - especially since NBC pulled ALL of their shows from HULU streaming (obviously, not live TV.) There are a couple NBC things I enjoy watching so I got Peacock basically for them. Even being wasteful and subscribing to services where I only watch a few things, my streaming bill is still only in the $40 range a month. Obviously, that will change if I decide to add more services but I justify it by no longer paying an outrageous cable bill - especially since I was being killed every month on equipment rental.
